Daily Spirit & Word: 608: The Condition of The Unsaved.
Good morning my friends, there’s a reason the Lord Jesus told His followers to be “GENTLE”… There’s a reason why Jesus had “COMPASSION”…
If you observed a person in a wheelchair at the bottom of the stairs on the London Underground would you leave him to struggle to the top of the stairs on his own? Just take a moment to imagine that scene. Many of London’s Underground Stations don’t have lifts and I’ve seen people struggling many times; mothers with prams and babies, old people with really heavy suitcases, etc… Now, if you saw a crippled person in a wheelchair and they couldn’t get up the stairs, what would you do? You’d obviously have compassion on them, you’d try and get a few others, complete strangers, to help you get the man to the top. It’s unlikely today you’d find a member of the Underground Staff to help. It’s up to you! You can either respond or leave them there to wait. What would you do?
Now: Think of the Condition of the UnSAVED Person. They can’t see, they are blind, they don’t know the way to Heaven, they can’t get up there by themselves and even if they could, they would NOT be allowed in.
What would you do if you saw a poor, blind and ignorant un-SAVED person?
Well, if God’s Holy Spirit is in you, then He would fill you with the same COMPASSION that Jesus had for the lost. Your whole inward desire will be the same as God’s; to lead that person from darkness into the light, from blindness to sight, from Ignorance to the Knowledge of Salvation.
The Unsaved Person:
- Doesn’t know that he needs Jesus’ love, death and sacrifice.
- Doesn’t know that he is heading towards the judgement and eternal damnation.
It would be foolish to say to that person: “Jesus loves you and died for you.” Why is that a foolish thing to say? Because the unsaved person is not aware that he was in any danger or that he needed someone to give their life for him. It’s complete foolishness that a person would give their life for them, because, as far as they are aware, they didn’t need to do it for them.
Surely common sense and real compassion would move you to let the person see their predicament first, then offer them the solution so they could grab-hold and never let go.
The Unsaved Person:
- Doesn’t know that he is headed for Hell.
So you can’t just say: “Repent or you are going to burn in Hell forever“. That’s just as bad as saying Jesus died for you because He loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. They’ve got their own plans and they are enjoying living their life in ignorance. It’s foolishness to the unsaved person. They don’t know that they’ve done anything wrong, enough that deserves being punished in Hell forever.
The Condition of The Unsaved Person:
Is Blinded by Satan: 2 Corinthians 4:4.
Is Walking in Darkness: John 1:5, Isaiah 9:2. Matthew 4:16-17.
Is Ignorant of their Sin disease: Romans 10, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23.
Is Convinced that he’s a good person. Proverbs 20:6.
Is Unaware that he needs a Saviour: Romans 10:14-15.
Is Convinced that if there is a God, He’ll be loving and will let everyone into Heaven anyway. John 3:17-ff
Is Headed for Hell and is NOT aware of the reasons why: They’ve broken God’s Holy Law, revealed in the Commandments, they are sinners in need of forgiveness, deliverance, cleansing and the power of Heaven in their souls.
So if you’d help a crippled person get up the stairs on the London Underground, then surely you’d have the human decency to help a poor unsaved soul find Salvation from certain judgement and eternal damnation? If they are headed for Hell as the Bible reveals, and that God will JUDGE everyone, surely, we who know the answer to their predicament won’t keep quiet. Compassion compels us to reach out and SAVE.
2 Corinthians 4:4 (NLT) “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.”
Matthew 4:16-17 “the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” 17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
Isaiah 9:2 “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”
Proverbs 20:6 (NKJV) “Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, But who can find a faithful man?”
Romans 10:14-15 (NKJV) How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”
HOW CAN THEY SEE? HOW CAN THEY HEAR?
My friends, the Unsaved are in a terrible plight, their eternal welfare is hanging in the balance. An old preacher said, “They are dangling over the fires of hell by nothing by a thread and the thread is already on fire and will break any moment, then they will fall, fall headlong into the pit of Hell” Unless someone reaches out to grab hold of them and save them. That’s YOU! That’s ME! We KNOW the truth, we’ve been brought from darkness into the light for a reason. The Lord has opened up our eyes so that we can see. Let’s have the same compassion as Jesus did and reach out and save as many as we can.
When we observe the dire condition of the unsaved person, then Divine, Holy Compassion will compel us to reach out and save those poor, blinded and lost souls. Jesus came to seek and to save the lost.
YBH: Yes! But HOW?
There’s a simple way, it’s the Way of The Master: The Lord Jesus Christ. He let people see and know that they needed a Saviour first, then told them to trust in Him. Yes Jesus did love people, we should too, Yes Jesus did heal people, we should too, but Jesus also warned the people, He was so full of LOVE that He couldn’t leave them in ignorance of their sinful condition and the eternal consequences if they refused to repent. The woman caught in the act of adultery: “Neither do I condemn you, but leave your life of sin”….”Repent, for the Kingdom of God is close at hand”. “Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish”… Yes Jesus is LOVE, but He’s also JUST. God will punish sinners, we’ve got a job to do to try and help those poor blinded souls, see the Salvation that’s on offer from Heaven today.
So my friends, be gentle with the blinded people, love them, guide them, show them the way of Salvation and enlighten them about their predicament unless they turn and grab hold of the heavenly arm that’s reaching out to save them.
Have a fantastic weekend, may the LORD enable you to have gentle compassion on everyone who doesn’t know HIM as Lord or Saviour.
