Holy Spirit Counsellor Forever

Home Version 2 – Daily Spirit and Word

Daily Spirit & Word, 453: Holy Spirit Forever.

Will be with you forever. Christian LIFE in the Spirit Today.

Good morning my friends, Praise the LORD! It’s the LORD’S DAY!

Worship the LORD with gladness. Come before His presence with songs of joy upon your hearts. Give thanks to Him for He is GOOD. His LOVE endures forever. Amen!

Our focus today is; The Counsellor: The Holy Spirit of Truth.

John 14:15-26 (NIV)

“If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you for ever— 17  the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18  I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19  Before long, the world will not see me any more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20  On that day you will realise that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21  Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.” 22  Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?” 23  Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24  He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. 25  “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26  But the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Introduction:

John 14 is the great chapter in the Gospel where Jesus reveals explicitly and clearly that He’s going to be leaving the Disciples very soon. But it also reveals Jesus heart for everyone who comes and puts their trust in Him. He knows that if the Disciples were left on their own they’d soon desert Him (as they did when He was arrested, tried and crucified). Even Peter, the great rock of a man, denied Jesus when a young servant girl noticed him. Three times Peter denied Jesus, but that was before Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit, that Jesus had promised them here in this section of chapter 14 of John. You’ll notice by contrast the DIFFERENCE in Peter, when He’s been filled with the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2).

Jesus knows what it’s like to loose someone you love. He felt it when Lazarus died remember how Jesus wept; when He saw Mary and Martha and how they grieved for Lazarus? Jesus knows what it’s like. So in Chapter 14 The Gospel Writer is showing us how Jesus was preparing them for His departure; His betrayal and death. Giving them HOPE of a new life even after death.

Jesus was leaving, but He’s promising something wonderful: They are going to see Him again. They are going to be filled with the Holy Spirit and as they experience the Holy Spirit they’ll KNOW: Jesus is with them, the Father is with them, the Holy Spirit is with them: Not only that God in Trinity is with EVERY true believer (a true believer is someone who has Jesus Commands / Teachings and is obedient to them), but He’s going to be IN them.

Holy Spirit For Everyone:

It a promise for everyone / anyone: v23 Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”

Jesus said that in answer to Judas’ question about Jesus revealing Himself to the disciples. He thought that Jesus meant only the disciples would ‘see’ Jesus. Judas has a good heart, he’s concerned about EVERYONE who wants to trust in Jesus. He’s already, even before he’s got the Holy Spirit, got a heart for others.

What will the Holy Spirit do? Belonging / Commands.

In this chapter we’re only given a brief introduction to the great work of the Holy Spirit. His first a most important work for the believer is to help us to know that we belong to Jesus.

Notice: The way to know if you BELONG to Jesus: Is to HAVE His Commands and live in obedience to them. (v21)

To HAVE Jesus commands, is to have them INSIDE YOU: They become a part of your being, your nature, your everything. You’ll LOVE them, you’ll want to LIVE in obedience, complete obedience, to Jesus Commands.

Note: Spiritual Conflict: Ongoing battle because even after you’ve received the Holy Spirit, you are NOT yet perfect or completely like Jesus. You still have a SIN / Fleshly Nature within you too. When you are filled with the Spirit there’s an ongoing war in your being; between your old sin nature and the New Spirit nature the Lord gives you. The Spirit and the Flesh are in conflict; each vying for your attention and obedience. Whichever one you submit to will determine your peace or not. (Romans 7 and 8).

However, the way to overcome the conflict is to be filled afresh with the Holy Spirit.

Explained: Yes, whenever a person comes in faith to trust the Lord Jesus as Saviour, who repents of their sins and forsakes them and begins to live in obedience to His Commands / Teachings (Discipleship), because those commands are written upon our hearts and become part of our new nature; the New Nature we receive when we’re Born Again of God’s Holy Spirit (John 1 and 3), the old nature is defeated, but it’s not dead. It’s still within you and me and everyone who trusts in Jesus.

It’s a kind of ongoing test:

I was speaking with the Youth about EXAMS and our attitude towards them. I asked them, “Do you like taking exams?” They all said, “No, exams are horrible, they’re hard and you’ve got to work hard if you want to pass them”…

I said, “There was a time in my life when I hated exams too, but now I look forward to them and love getting ready for them”…

My friends, being tested about what we know is one thing, but being tested for what we are is quite another. The TEST that we experience as believers is not what we KNOW about Jesus, the Bible, Church, Traditions, etc…. It the TEST to see if we are truly His. That’s an ongoing test. It’s a TEST we’re subjected to every single day.

  • God wants to know if you are His.
  • Jesus wants to know if you are His.
  • The Holy Spirit wants to know if you are His.

The TEST is obedience to the Commands and Teachings of Jesus Christ (God’s WORD: Jesus is the WORD, the Holy Spirit inspired men to write down God’s WORD. God the FATHER is the ultimate source of the WORD / TRUTH / LIFE. Because the Son and the Spirit subject themselves to the Father’s will. The Holy Spirit subjects Himself to the Father and the Son. But they are ALL ONE, they are ALL equal.

Perfect obedience does not make you less of a person; otherwise Jesus would be less…

Perfect obedience elevates you as it did and does the Lord Jesus Christ.

You’ll experience the LIFE that Jesus intends, the more you live in obedience to His commands and teachings.

Comforter: Holy Spirit.

That Bible has so much more to say about the Person and work of the Holy Spirit than is revealed in this little portion from John today. However, here we can be comforted that He’ll guide us and reveal to us EVERYTHING Jesus had commanded whilst He was on the earth. That’s what Jesus is promising. Even if the Disciples hadn’t written the Bible (we’re so glad they did), we’d still be guided and enlightened about the teachings of Jesus Christ by God the Holy Spirit on the inside. The Holy Spirit teaches and trains us according to the will of God the Father. He’ll guide you in all your ways.

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths”

When we become followers of Jesus teachings and commands, we are His Disciples (That’s what He was telling Judas), anyone, everyone who obeys.

As Jesus Disciples we’re given the greatest gift; the Presence of God within, the Holy Spirit will not just be with us, he’ll be IN us.

They’d already known that the Holy Spirit was with them: They’d healed, delivered and seen all the miracles of Jesus. NOW Jesus was promising them; “You’ll HAVE the Holy Spirit in you too”.

The Holy Spirit:

This passage from John above is only an introduction to the work of the Holy Spirit.

The Gospels: Reveal the PROMISE of what life is going to be like with the Holy Spirit. As does the Old Testament.

The Rest of the New Testament is ALL ABOUT LIFE IN THE SPIRIT.

  • Acts: Called the Acts of the Apostles: But could equally have the full title; “The Acts of the Apostles when they are Filled with the Holy Spirit”. Witness, Work and Life.
  • Romans: Teaches us the Gospel, but also What Victory we have when we LIVE according to the guidance and teaching of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 7 & 8).
  • Corinthians: Teaches us about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
  • Galatians: Teaches us HOW to Walk and be LED by the Spirit, the CONFLICT between our natures and about the Fruit of the Holy Spirit in the Believers life.
  • Ephesians: Has teaching about the Holy Spirit in every single chapter.
  • Philippians: Teaches us about the UNITY of the Holy Spirit: Making us ONE.
  • Collossians: Teaches us about the LOVE for others that the Holy Spirit empowers us to have.

The Holy Spirit: Christians SPIRIT LIFE: is

  • Illustrated in the Old Testament: Prophets, Priests, Kings.
  • Promised in the Gospels: Jesus promises in John 14, 17. John the Baptist “Spirit & Fire” promised.
  • Expanded and illustrated and Explained in the Rest of the New Testament.

The Holy Spirit Today:

  • He convicts of sin and of righteousness: Our Need for Jesus. John 17.
  • He Gives Believers New LIFE.
  • He Testifies to Believers that God is our FATHER. (FAMILY).
  • He Equips Believers to LIVE.
  • He Guides Believers in LIFE.
  • He Gifts Believers for SERVICE.
  • HE Unifies BELIEVERS for BLESSING.
  • He Fills Believers with God’s LOVE.

My friends, if you’ve ever doubted that you need the Holy Spirit in your life, if you’ve ever been tempted to think, “I’ve got Jesus I don’t need anymore”, then I encourage you to think again. Re-Read the Bible with a Marker / Highlighter in your hand and whenever you come accross Holy Spirit or The Spirit: Mark it. Make a note: What is it teaching me here about the Holy Spirit, what does the Holy Spirit do in this part of the Bible? What does it teach me here about what the Holy Spirit means for a Believer.

Your eyes will be opened.

Your understanding increased.

Your heart will be encouraged.

Your life will be transformed.

Be filled with the Holy Spirit every single day. Take time now and ask Father God to send the Holy Spirit into your life afresh. Pray to Jesus and tell Him of your NEED of the Holy Spirit. Say to the Holy Spirit: “Come and take Your place in my life.”

I’m hoping and praying that you will be filled. I know that God has promised the Holy Spirit to all who ask. I know that once you are filled your life will never be the same again.

God has promised the Holy Spirit to ALL who ask to be filled.

Just pray, “Lord Jesus, I was baptised for the forgiveness of sins, I know I’ve been born of the Spirit, but now I want to be empowered and renewed and transformed by Holy Spirit today”…. Can you say that and mean it?

Every blessing for a Spirit filled and powerful day.

Don.

Behold The Lamb of God

Behold The Lamb of God.

John The Baptist's Powerful Testimony: The Water, the Lamb, the Dove and the Son of God.
John The Baptist’s Powerful Testimony: The Water, the Lamb, the Dove and the Son of God.

Daily Spirit & Word, 447: John’s Powerful Testimony.

Four Symbols

The Water, Lamb, Dove and the Son of God.

Good morning my friends, today we’re gathering on the first Sunday of March to worship the Lord with an truly amazing focus on Jesus, looking at Him through the Magnifying Glass of John the Baptist. Let’s jump right in and read God’s Word;
  • John 1:29-34
  • 29  The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
  • 30  This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’
  • 31  I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptising with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”
  • 32  Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him.
  • 33  I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptise with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptise with the Holy Spirit.’
  • 34  I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God.”
As a Magnifying Glass makes things BIGGER: So John’s Witness about Jesus makes Him much BIGGER for each and every one of us today. Here’s HOW!
You know my friends, there is nothing more powerful to lead others to Jesus Christ than by our own witness or testimony of who Jesus Christ is: both to us and to the world. That’s what John the Baptist revealed in his own life and it’s what Christians can reveal to the world today.
We’ve observed the POWER of this fact in the face of debate and doubt: Whilst out on the streets witnessing, we’ll come accross many people who’ve got strong arguments and reasons for not believing in God or Jesus, but after trying to debate them on an intellectual level for a while, we’ve seen how just one or two words brings those strong defences, (These are the Castles they built to hide from God) intellectual and moral doubts come crashing down. When we say, “I know God because I’ve met God personally through Jesus” there’s absolutely nothing they can say. Apart from thinking, either we’re mad or deluded or we’re telling the truth. There is POWER in personal testimony, that’s what John the Baptist brings us today.
John gives us FOUR vary powerful symbols;

1) The Water:

John’s message was: “Repent and Be Baptised for the forgiveness of Sins.” (Baptism means to submerse, to sink to go under, to go down underneath and into the water).
Baptism was something people always did to themselves, but this was very strange, now a man came calling people to come to him to be washed in running water, to be cleansed of their sins. But first John said that people must REPENT.
The people at the time knew what John meant, but we’ve don’t have the same understanding of God’s Word, the Old Testament. He was calling the people to come back to God’s ways, God’s will revealed in the Law and the Commandments. Repenting is simply acknowledging we’ve failed and fallen short of them, turning away from sin and desiring God’s cleansing from Sin. (Sin is the Transgression of the Law of God).
Washing in Water was always a symbol of RITUAL CLEANSING. Baptism = Repentance and Forgiveness / Cleansing from Sin.

2) The Lamb of God: “Behold the Lamb of God”

John was saying, “Behold” which means LOOK PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT I’M POINTING OUT.
Who takes away the sin of the world.
In Israel: The Jews sacrificed pure, innocent and spotless lambs, this was God’s given symbol of purification. The blood of the lamb was to show that their sins had been washed away, but that sin has a price, “The wages of sin is death”… The Lamb died in the place of the people, because sin must be paid for.
Imagine that, an innocent, pure little lamb: The people would most surely have the same feelings for little lambs that we have today. They are cute, lovely, innocent, spotless and cuddly: But they needed to die to pay the price for their sins. seems cruel and barbaric to us today, but God was showing the people something about SIN. How much it hurt him and how serious sin was to him.
Now John was saying something awesome: Just like people would wash themselves to purify themselves, so Israelite People would bring their own lambs to be slaughtered. It was their identifying with their own sin. It’s like saying to God, “It was me, I did it, now I bring this little lamb to suffer in my place”… Now John is telling the people, God is Himself providing the Lamb for Sacrifice: Jesus would be God’s Lamb who would be sacrificed to take away the sins of the whole world. His precious blood would pay the price for the sins of everyone. He was God’s pure, spotless and sinless Lamb.

Why? The Bible tells us why: John 3:14-18
14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,
15 that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.
16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

3) The Dove:

For many thousands of years, since the time of Noah, the Dove has been well known as the international symbol of PEACE. Often depicted carrying a leaf in it’s mouth.
After the flood, that destroyed every sinful human being apart from Noah and his family, when the waters receeded Noah sent out some birds to find land, the dove finally returned to Noah carrying an Olive branch in it’s mouth. This meant the end of God’s wrath, the flood abated and PEACE with God was restored. He’d finished his work of cleansing / PURIFYING the earth from Sin. Water: Now the earth was appearing again and the Dove brought the symbol of God’s Peace.
My friends, when the Holy Spirit came down from Heaven and entered Jesus, He came in the form of a Dove. Notice what John said though, The Dove came down and rested on him and remained upon Him. The Holy Spirit NEVER left Jesus again.
John said about Jesus; “The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptise with the Holy Spirit.”
Jesus was and is the one who sends the Holy Spirit into the hearts of everyone who comes to Him in Repentance seeking the forgiveness of their sins. He died upon the Cross as God’s Lamb to take away those sins. He now gives the Holy Spirit to each and every person who TRUSTS in His death upon the cross, that it was for their sins. His precious, spotless, innocent and holy life-blood poured out on the cross for your sins.
Jest like the Holy Spirit remained upon Jesus, so the Holy Spirit will be with the New Believer forever. He’ll fill you and give you what John said here, “FIRE”… Fire = Zeal for God. Love for God, Devotion to God, Dedication to God’s ways. That’s the FIRE it means the ability to live in such a way, that your life will be pleasing to God.
The Holy Spirit really is a symbol of PEACE between mankind and God. That God was finished with the punishment Jesus had taken all the punishment necessary for SIN and now God was sending the Holy Spirit to reveal the True PEACE between the believer and God. The PEACE in your heart is a fruit of the Holy Spirit.

4) Testimony (Witness).

John the Baptist said, “I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God.”
WOWzer! What a powerful witness. “I’ve seen” and “I testify”…
My friends, John saw the DOVE (He’d been given a message and a method of getting people ready for Jesus coming: Repent = turn back to God away from sin. AND be baptised to be PURIFIED from those sins) NOW after years of getting people ready, he finally saw what God had told him from Heaven. “When you see the Spirit come down and remain upon him, he is the one who will baptise with the Holy Spirit and fire”…. I’ve seen Him, this is the one, this is the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ is the SON of God.
And as I said at the beginning, there is nothing more powerful than personal testimony, personal witness, personal knowledge: “I’ve seen Jesus, I know Jesus, I’ve been with Jesus” What has Jesus done for you?

A Christian’s Personal Testimony:

Witness about Jesus: What He’s done for you:
He’s forgiven my sins (How did that make you feel).
He died for me (How does it make you feel how Jesus died for your sins).
He came into my life: Now tell people what your life is now like with Jesus, in comparison to what life what like without Jesus.
He filled me with His Holy Spirit: Now tell people what it’s like being full of the Holy Spirit. How you know the PEACE of God.
Tell people: “Behold Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the SIN of the World.”
With this POWERFUL testimony, what Jesus came to do, what Jesus has done for you, you can go out and be confident that God will use it to bring others to the same faith and confidence that you have in Jesus Christ. Knowing Jesus Christ personally is all the training you need to become a powerful EVANGELIST to lead others to Him.

Today we’ve seen FOUR Powerful Symbols:

These Make for a VERY POWERFUL TESTIMONY.
  • The Water:
  • The Lamb:
  • The Dove:
  • The Son of God:
What’s the Water For? Repentance and Forgiveness (Cleansing & Pruification).
What’s the Lamb for? Paying the Price in Blood for Sins.
What’s the Dove for? Assurance of PEACE within each and every Repentant Sinner who receives Jesus as Lord.
What’s the Son of God for? He’s the Lamb, He’s the giver of the Holy Spirit, He’s the one who paid the price for sin.
Remember:

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Why do we need a Personal Testimony like John’s? Because God has revealed just how precious each soul is, that He doesn’t want anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. So He’s given you a task of spreading this Good News of Jesus to everyone and He’s given you a personal encounter and filled you with His Spirit to accomplish the task. If you’ve not got this FIRE (Zeal) to share Jesus with others, then there’s something wrong with your faith. God’s LOVE compels us to share with others what He’s given to us: So share Jesus today.
Have an awesome Sunday my friends.
If you’ve never done so before, can I encourage you today to come to Jesus Christ; Repent and seek His forgiveness, know that He’s paid the price for all your sins upon the cross and turn to Him now. He’ll give you the gift of the Holy Spirit as a way that you can know that you’ve been forgiven, your place in Heaven is secure and you are living a PEACE with God forever. Come NOW is the Day to be SAVED from Sin. Come today is the day of Salvation from sin.

Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

The Ashes of the Red Heifer.

Daily Spirit & Word: 439: The Ashes of the Red Heifer.

Burned Outside The Camp.

The Ashes of the Red Heifer.
The Ashes of the Red Heifer.

Daily Spirit & Word, 439: The Ashes of the Red Heifer.

Burned outside the camp: External Cleansing from the Rebellion of Sin.

My friends, this morning we’re looking at the seriousness of the sin of rebellion against the Lord and His anointed. How the Christian who has sinned on purpose is living in a state of being cut-off from the LORD.
Back-Slidden: The Remedy.

Numbers 19:1-8
1 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron:
2 “This is a requirement of the law that the LORD has commanded: Tell the Israelites to bring you a red heifer without defect or blemish and that has never been under a yoke.
3 Give it to Eleazar the priest; it is to be taken outside the camp and slaughtered in his presence.
4 Then Eleazar the priest is to take some of its blood on his finger and sprinkle it seven times towards the front of the Tent of Meeting.
5 While he watches, the heifer is to be burned—its hide, flesh, blood and offal.
6 The priest is to take some cedar wood, hyssop and scarlet wool and throw them onto the burning heifer.
7 After that, the priest must wash his clothes and bathe himself with water. He may then come into the camp, but he will be ceremonially unclean till evening.
8 The man who burns it must also wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he too will be unclean till evening.

Notes: The Red Heifer: An Heifer is a young cow who has not been with a bull… Therefore for the Israelites the RED Heifer signifies; a pure, spotless, virgin cow. But it was to be a RED Heifer, the symbolism is POWERFUL.

It is very interesting to note that when the LORD gave this provision for cleansing, it followed the rebellion of Korah and his sons. The Tabernacle and it’s sacrificial system had already provided a means of being purified in God’s sight from TRESPASS of God’s Law, they did this through the Offerings that were made for sin. However, the Sin of REBELLION is much more serious and requires some extra-ordinary provision for cleansing.

REBELLION: Contaminates the whole community. The Contamination of Sin must be purified and the fact that the Heifer was killed outside the camp indicates to us just how seriously God takes the sin of rebellion, but that leaves us with a question, what is rebellion and why is it so serious?

Rebellion: Is the Refusal to accept some authority, code or convention: It’s deliberately rejecting God’s Authority or those that He has chosen and appointed and anointed for a particular task. Rejecting God’s Authority is deadly, in the case of Korah and his two sons and all those who rose up with them to oppose Moses and Aaron.

Rebellion: Is also organised opposition to authority; a conflict in which one faction tries to wrest control from another. Korah tried to do that and he died, here’s a snippet from the story in Numbers 16 (but please if you’ve got time, read it for yourself).

What Happened To Korah?

To his sons and those he led in REBELLION against the LORD’S Anointed: Aaron and Moses?
Numbers 16:23-35
23 Then the LORD said to Moses,
24 “Say to the assembly, ‘Move away from the tents of Korah, Dathan and Abiram.’ ”
25 Moses got up and went to Dathan and Abiram, and the elders of Israel followed him.
26 He warned the assembly, “Move back from the tents of these wicked men! Do not touch anything belonging to them, or you will be swept away because of all their sins.”
27 So they moved away from the tents of Korah, Dathan and Abiram. Dathan and Abiram had come out and were standing with their wives, children and little ones at the entrances to their tents.
28 Then Moses said, “This is how you will know that the LORD has sent me to do all these things and that it was not my idea:
29 If these men die a natural death and experience only what usually happens to men, then the LORD has not sent me.
30 But if the LORD brings about something totally new, and the earth opens its mouth and swallows them, with everything that belongs to them, and they go down alive into the grave, then you will know that these men have treated the LORD with contempt.”
31 As soon as he finished saying all this, the ground under them split apart
32 and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, with their households and all Korah’s men and all their possessions.
33 They went down alive into the grave, with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished and were gone from the community.
34 At their cries, all the Israelites around them fled, shouting, “The earth is going to swallow us too!”
35 And fire came out from the LORD and consumed the 250 men who were offering the incense.

Can you now see the seriousness of REBELLION?
Why something so pure and spotless was required, like the young cow, an heifer, who’d not pulled or been put under a yoke?

Application: Jesus the Sacrifice Outside the Camp.

For Christians today, this is a reminder of what the Lord Jesus Christ has done for us, because He too was killed outside the camp on the hill of Calvary so that those who’d been made unclean could be forgiven and cleansed from all sin.

The Blood of Christ: compared to the Sacrifices and the Ashes of the Heifer:
Hebrews 9:11-14
11 When Christ came as high priest of the good things that are already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation.
12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.
13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean.
14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

Hebrews 13:11-14
11 The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. (Ashes of the Heifer).
12 And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood.
13 Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore.
14 For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.

If Jesus had died in Jerusalem then He’d have contaminated the Holy City. When He died, he was taking the SIN of the whole world upon Himself and do you remember how when that happened, He was cut-off from God the Father. He cried upon the Cross, “My God, My God, Why have You forsaken me?” God and SIN cannot be together. The SINS of the whole world cut Jesus off from the Father. That’s why He had to die outside the camp, just like the Red Heifer.

When a Christian defiles himself or herself with the DEAD THINGS of SIN, he must be cleansed and made pure by the blood of Jesus Christ. His suffering and death outside the camp were to be a lasting ordinance for every Christian forever. His BLOOD can make you clean. His death outside the camp, reveals just how Defilement of Sin is taken so seriously by God Almighty. Jesus couldn’t die in the Holy Place, in the Temple or the Holy City of Jerusalem, He had to be taken outside the camp.

We must come to Him in confession, repentance and to cleanse ourselves from the sin of rebellion and then do what the Lord requires; live His ways from now on. We will be made clean, we will be forgiven, but the Holy Spirit must be entreated to come and fill afresh and renew His Divine power within the believer, Renewal is more than just coming to Christ once to be forgiven and to become a member of God’s household forever, we must also continue to Walk as Jesus walked, in holiness of life.

The Ashes of the Heifer: External Cleansing so they could continue to serve the Lord.
The Blood of Jesus: Internal cleansing, so we can continue to serve the Lord in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Question: Shall a Christian who’s been forgiven by the Lord and made a member of His family by being born again continue to sin?
Answer: Not on purpose, but if we do, we need to know that SIN still separates us from the LORD, because what fellowship has light with darkness. Until we come back to the LORD we are in a state of being cut-off from the Lord. Some people call this ‘back-slidden’. We’re not walking like Jesus and we’re not walking with Jesus. Sin separates us from the LORD! It’s serious my friends, it’s like a walking death, with no experience or inward assurance from the Holy Spirit that we are the Lord’s.
Solution: Get right with Jesus Christ again, but open Confession of Sin; say it out loud so the Devil hears you and cannot accuse you of it ever again. Repent: turn away again from sin in your life. Seek: Seek the wholeness of the Holy Spirit and you’ll be able to walk as Jesus did, in His strength and power to please Father God with your life.

Come again unto the LORD and be cleansed from ALL sin.

God bless and keep you in His way today,

Hope you all have an AWESOME HOLY SATURDAY.

Good morning my friends, we had a great night of making Pancakes with the CRU (Youth Group) last night. We did it so they would know about Shrove Tuesday, the day before Lent begins. Lent is the 40 Days before Easter Sunday.
Today, I want to focus on FOLLOWING, because what we follow reveals so much to us. The following little passages from Ephesians and John show that only through Jesus Christ can we be truly free to live God’s way in this world.

Ephesians 2:1-5
1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,
2  in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.
3  All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.
4  But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
5  made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.
What a wonderful passage of the Bible, it’s pregnant with meaning for the Saints in Christ Jesus today. Just look at the list of themes in these five short verses;
  • Dead
  • Transgressions
  • Sins
  • Following the ways of the world,
  • Following the ways of Satan,
  • Satan at work in those who are Disobedient (those not yet brought to the obedience of Christ)
  • All of us were like that,
  • Gratifying the cravings,
  • Sinful nature,
  • Following it’s desires,
  • Following it’s thoughts,
  • We were objects of wrath,
  • God’s great love for us,
  • God’s great mercy,
  • LIFE, made us alive with Christ Jesus,
  • We are saved by God’s Grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
WOWzer! When you look at it like that, there is a whole sermon in each topic. But today I hope to unpack it in as few words as the LORD gives me today.
The word that jumps out most for me today is FOLLOWING. Can you see from the passage above that before we come to Christ and begin to follow Him as our Lord and Saviour, before His Commands and instructions become a priority in our life, we are simply DEAD (Spiritually) following Satan’s lead in every aspect of our Character;
Following the ways of the world: The world is following the plans and purposes of Satan, the ‘world’, meaning everyone who is not BORN OF THE SPIRIT. The world’s ways are obviously evil; just think about our own country for a few minutes. In the News recently we’ve seen how people (ordianry people) who don’t pay their TAX to the HMRC (Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs) will be taken to court and forced to eitheir pay a fine or serve some time in prison. But the ways of the world dictate that we should “AVOID PAYING AS MUCH TAX AS WE CAN GET AWAY WITH” am I right? There are Tax Advisors who’ll tell you all the legal loop-holes that will help you avoid paying as much tax as the Inland Revenue wants from you.
Jesus on the other hand, Commanded Christians to PAY THEIR TAXES IN FULL:
Mark 12:17 (NLT) “Well, then,” Jesus said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” His reply completely amazed them.”
NOW it’s been revealed in the Media: on TV and in the Press, that the richest people in the land have been avioding paying their taxes for years in some cases this amounted to Millions of ££££££££…. AND they were NOT prosecuted. It’s not a fair system, a poor man gets prosecuted and the rich man goes free. That’s unjust, unfair, not right. It’s obviously the way of the world, but it’s only following the Spirit who’s at work in the hearts of those who are disobedient, those who don’t yet know Jesus Christ as Lord. For if they did, they be fair, they’d be just, they would not give preferential treatment to the rich and powerful.
Following: the ways of world, Satan,
Following the ways of the sinful nature,
Following it’s desires and thoughts:
The Sinful Nature: lives in disobedience to the ways of Christ Jesus, will not submit to Him, indeed the Bible tells us it cannot, until it has been set free from Satan’s grip, the Sinful nature desires the exact opposite of the Holy Spirit, they are at war with each other.

NEW LIFE: In Christ Jesus.

Freedom to Follow Jesus.

However, though this passage is filled with so much revelation of what we were once like, before we came to trust in Jesus Christ by His awesome Grace through faith in His death upon the cross for our sins, now it’s revealed what He actually gave us;
Life: We are no longer DEAD in Transgression and Sin, but we are ALIVE in Christ Jesus. What does that new life in Christ mean?
We are no longer pulled by the ways of the world.
We can see the ways of the world (Satan’s ways) for what they are, evil.
We can understand now why people do things they way that they do, because they are objects of God’s wrath, they a filled with the evil spirit of Satan, they are only blindly following his commands and demands and, following the impulses of their hearts and foolish sinful fleshly lusts.
We can know just how much we’ve been set free from when we trusted Christ,
It really brings home the truth of what Jesus said in the following passage, please take time to read it very carefully. If you are following this teaching on Daily Spirit & Word Website then you’ll see how I’ve highlighted the very important words in this passage below. The words in brackets are my commentary upon that verse.
John 8:31-44 (NIV)
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32  Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (Coming to Jesus you’ll be set free from Sin & Satan).
33  They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” (They didn’t understand they were in bondage to Satan 2 Cor 4:4 “blinded by Satan”).
34  Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. (When we can’t stop sinning, we’re in bondage to it).
35  Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it for ever.
36  So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (You’ll now if you’ve been set free if you are free from sin and Satan’s ability to control your thoughts, passions and desires. Jesus sets you free).
37  I know you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are ready to kill me, because you have no room for my word.
38  I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you do what you have heard from your father.”
39  “Abraham is our father,” they answered. “If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would do the things Abraham did. (They thought they were saved, so many are blinded by Satan like this in the Church, they think they are saved because granny was a Christian or because they come to church, but they’ve never come to faith and trust in Christ Jesus yet).
40  As it is, you are determined to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things.
41  You are doing the things your own father does.” “We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.” (Jesus is hinting here that Satan is their father).
42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me.
43  Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. (Satan blinds the eyes and ears, so they can’t see the Good News or Hear it and be saved).
44  You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (Now Jesus has told them plainly, until they TRUST IN HIM they are in bondage to sin, slaves to sin and Satan is their father.)
Can you see now my friends, until we come to Christ we are Following Satan; who influences and rules over the affaris of this world that will not submit to Christ Jesus as Lord. Until we come to Christ, we are also following the impulses, desires and thoughts of our own sinful and rebellious evil nature.
To be FREE from Satan and Sin: We must come to Christ.
When we come to Christ, we are made ALIVE in Him. We’re given NEW LIFE (Born Again)…
John 1:12 “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
My friends, God is your FATHER if you’ve trusted in Christ Jesus.
Satan is your father if you’ve not been set free and given this new life yet.
Come to Jesus, receive Him as your LORD now, trust in His death upon the cross for your sin and you too will be set free and able to follow Him in the power of the Holy Spirit.
I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday my friends, it’s so good to know what our FREEDOM IN CHRIST looks like. If you’ve got time read the passages below for further help and study. They are so closely linked to the theme today, it would be a real shame to miss what the Holy Spirit is saying to you.

For Further Study: Following: Holy Spirit / Christ Jesus as LORD.

Freedom to Follow Jesus

Following the Way of the Holy Spirit: IN Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:1-17
1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,
2  because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
3  For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man,
4  in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.
5  Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
6  The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace;
7  the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
8  Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
9  You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.
10  But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.
11  And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.
12  Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it.
13  For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,
14  because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
15  For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
16  The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
17  Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
The Acts of the Sinful Nature Are Obvious:
Galatians 5:1-26 (NIV)
1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
2  Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.
3  Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is required to obey the whole law.
4  You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
5  But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope.
6  For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.
7  You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth?
8  That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.
9  “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.”
10  I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be.
11  Brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offence of the cross has been abolished.
12  As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!
13  You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.
14  The entire law is summed up in a single command: “Love your neighbour as yourself.”
15  If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

The Acts Of The Christian Controlled by the Holy Spirit.

16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
17  For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.
18  But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
19  The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
20  idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
21  and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23  gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
24  Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.
25  Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
26  Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Free At Last

Daily Spirit & Word, 311: Free At Last

Thank God Almighty, I’m Free At Last.

Knowing the Lord Jesus sets us free from; Sin, the Law, the World and the Devil.

Good morning my friends, I’m a bit late today because we had some bad new yesterday (I’ll share later), but we’ve also been busy with some good things too; Youth Club last night in the Church and our Grandchildren have come to stay for the weekend as well. So I’m a wee bit tired this morning. However, the LORD is so gracious, as I was reading Galatians today new light has been shed abroad in my heart. It’s fantastic they was the Bible opens up to us. I’ve read Galatians countless times since I came to know Jesus, but every day now, there’s something new within it’s pages jumping out at me. Fresh revelations of either God’s heart for His people, the Lord Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for us and how free the Lord wants us to be in this world or some fresh insight into how I’m doing in my walk with Jesus. I was wondering, what LIGHT is the Lord giving to you as you delve into His Word?

Galatians 3:25-27 (NIV) 25  Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law. (the Law is no longer our Schoolmaster it’s purpose was to show us Christ the Saviour, once we’ve put our trust in Him we’re free from the Law’s demands.) that because; now read verses 26-27.

26 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus,
27  for all of you who were baptised into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
First my friends, the Apostle Paul declares God’s Word to us, that we are free from the Law. Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law for us. We can now live the Christian life with joy and safety under Christ. We’re safe from the condemnation of the Law. However, there’s TROUBLE, becuase our flesh will not let us believe in Christ with all our heart. You see my friends, the fault is not with Jesus Christ, but with us, those who’ve trusted in Him. You see my friends, we’ve still got Sin clinging to us as long as we live in this body and it can spoil our happiness, freedom, joy and peace in the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s because whilst we’re here on earth we are only partly free from; sin, the world, the flesh, the Law and the devil.  Romans 7:25 (NIV) “Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.” As we read more and more of the Bible you’ll discover that we’ve got a dual personality my friends, a bit like Pinocchio who had a good and bad angel upon his shoulders, we too have within us the Holy Spirit and our Earthly Fleshly Spirit and the Bible tells us they are in constant conflict with one another, the one that we listen to or pay attention to or feed will be the one that we obey.
However, the LIGHT shining in my heart afresh today, the TRUTH that sets us FREE, is that we ARE God’s children when we come to faith in Jesus. More than that, we’re clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ. As soon as we RECEIVE Jesus by faith, we put on the righteousness of Jesus, we’re covered by Him, we’re protected.

So in the battle of the Flesh and Spirit who wins? It’s determined by who we listen to more, if we keep feeding our fleshly nature, it will win this battle and we’ll be drawn further and further away from the Lord, but He’ll never let us go completely because we’ve trust Him, He’s faithful and will complete the work within us that He’s begun. But when I’m following my flesh, when anyone does it, all we get is; guilt, fear, condemnation, lack of peace and joy in life.

The opposite is true when we’re filled with the Holy Spirit and listen to His voice within, He awakens our conscience, he’s shouting and guiding and leading and showing us the way of peace. When we listen to His Holy voice within, we’re set free, there’s JOY, Happiness, Peace, Security, Freedom from Condemnation, Purpose for living every single day. Even if, like Paul, we’re hard-done-by, thrown into prison, beaten, shipwrecked, car-crashed, plane-crashed, loose our job, loose our love in life when relationships crumble, with the Holy Spirit we can still experience real PEACE n JOY through all these things. Hard though life is sometimes, there’s so much power in Jesus He’ll carry us through anything my friends.

Who are you listening to today? The battle also gets much easier the more you listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit. You’ll recognise your Flesh creeping in to try and take control more easily. You can identify Satan’s attacks, and the world holds less and less attraction to you. Jesus is setting you free and the freedom grows day by day the more you listen to the voice of God’s Holy Spirit within…

When your faith is growing; sin, the world, the law, the flesh, the devil grow weaker in their ability to influence and control you. So you can shout and answer your flesh and all the others with this cry; “I’m a child of the living God, I belong to Jesus, I’m filled with the Holy Spirit, I’ve been set free from you, I’m not yours anymore, I belong to the family of God and I’m not going to feel guilty any longer”. Take your stand against the devil and his schemes my friends and you’ll discover greater measures of Freedom, Joy and Peace within.

Have an awesome Saturday in Jesus.

We’re going to have a fantastic day with our grandchildren, even though rain and wind are forecast, we’re still going to have so much fun together. Joy in the Lord my friends.
