Motivated by Love

Holy Spirit Empowered by LOVE

Daily Spirit & Word: 739: Motivated By Love.

Pentecost Prayer Week: Day 3: How The Holy Spirit Moves You.

If it doesn’t affect your hands, feet, and thinking, it isn’t Christianity.

Good morning my friends, what an AWESOME day we had yesterday. Prayer in the morning and Alpha in the evening. “Why and HOW to share the Good News”…

After you’ve trusted Jesus as Lord and Saviour something happens to your heart, mind, will and emotions. It’s all just a part of the RENEWAL taking place within you as the Holy Spirit takes up residence. However, unlike the UK Government that’s only elected for five years, He’s with you forever. One of the personal PROOFS that you are a Christian is to look for this evidence within yourself; “Am I changing day by day to become more like Jesus?” If not then what might have happened is that you’ve just gotten ‘religious’ rather than saved. Because if it doesn’t affect your hands, feet and thinking, then it isn’t Christianity.

  • The indwelling Holy Spirit produces the fruit of righteousness within every Christian.
  • The indwelling Holy Spirit FILLS you with God’s Love: that love will motivate you. It’s not just so that you can feel good or know that God loves you. You should know that anyway, but His love compels us to do stuff for God daily.
  • The indwelling Holy Spirit MOVES us to obey God’s will.

We should exhibit in increasing measure; Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Righteousness, Gentleness and Self-Control. 1 Corinthians 13 is all about real LOVE and you’ll know if you are loving God and people more. Jesus summary of the Ten Commandments: Love God and Love Others: The Golden Rule: “Love the Lord Thy God with ALL your heart, mind, soul and strength and love your neighbour as yourself”… You can’t do it in your own strength, you need the Holy Spirit within to make this fulfilment of Jesus command possible.

Now, you can put it to the TEST this week.

You’ve got an excuse, because it’s Pentecost Prayer Week. So now you can do or practice some of these things. The Holy Spirit is always prompting us to do it anyway.

Hands: Do some good with your hands: i.e. Be a practical Christian, let it affect your service towards others. Do more, do nice things for people, especially the people you are praying for every day on your OIKOS list. After praying for them, do something nice; make something for them, take them for a coffee, go for a walk with them, talk with them, ask them how things are going in their life. Don’t just have friends for what they can do for you, but be a friend for them too. If we see that they have a NEED in life, then ask God HOW you can help to solve their problems for them. It might mean you’ll just need to pray more for them or it might mean you have to put your hands into your pocket and give them so of your treasures.

Feet: Go the extra mile for others. Go where the Holy Spirit prompts you. Use your feet to avoid areas of temptation by running away. The Bible tells us to flee temptation. We’re praying the Lord’s prayer every day this week and part of that prayer says, “Lead me not into temptation, deliver me from evil”… We can co-operate with the LORD by running away from tempting things. And running towards the areas of His service. Let your feet be fitted with those Gospel shoes mentioned in the Armour Ephesians 6:10-20. i.e. let your feet take you to where you’ll be prompted to share the Good News of Jesus.

Thinking: We mentioned this yesterday in regards taking others captive for Jesus, but we must also take every thought captive in our own minds and put them in a strong tower of God’s making. Imprison our thoughts and use our minds to think God’s thoughts. Romans 12 begins with an instruction about having our minds being renewed by the Holy Spirit. We’re not to think or react as the world does. So when someone cuts you up whilst driving, bless them. When someone jumps the queue when your shopping, allow them to go before you. When someone forgets to repay a debit or a loan, let them off, forget about it, cancel their debt. When you see them, tell them not to worry about it. Lending money to people makes them your servant, they are bound to you because of the outstanding debit, so release those captives and let them go. You’ll be like God if you can begin to think like this. Jesus came to set the captives free and if we’re filled with the same Holy Spirit so will we. It will be a JOY to our hearts to let people go. If someone offends you in some way, think about it, forgive them, because God has forgiven you so much. In these ways you can practically change your thinking and have your mind renewed. I’m sure there are many more ways our thinking can be transformed by God’s indwelling Holy Spirit. These are not exhaustive, just some examples.

So my friends, today, shall we let the Holy Spirit loose within ourselves and let Him affect our; Hands (service for God and others), Feet (going out for Jesus into this world and fleeing temptation), Thinking (being renewed by what we dwell upon and think about).

Because, if it doesn’t affect my hands, feet, and thinking, it isn’t real Christianity. and I’m not really following Jesus.

Do not merely listen to the WORD, but be obedient to it.

Scriptures to Meditate Upon Today:

Be Protected:

Ephesians 6:10-20 (NLT)
10  A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
11  Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
12  For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
13  Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
14  Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.
15  For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.
16  In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.
17  Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18  Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
19  And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike.
20  I am in chains now, still preaching this message as God’s ambassador. So pray that I will keep on speaking boldly for him, as I should.

Let God’s LOVE Motivate You Towards REAL Love.

1 Corinthians 13:1-13 (NIV)
1  If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
2  If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
3  If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
4  Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8  Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
9  For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
10  but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.
11  When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
12  Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13  And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

You Were SET FREE to LOVE

Galatians 5:13-15 (NIV)
13  You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.
14  The entire law is summed up in a single command: “Love your neighbour as yourself.”
15  If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

LIVE by the HOLY SPIRIT

Galatians 5:16-26 (NIV)
16  So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
17  For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.
18  But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
19  The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
20  idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
21  and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23  gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
24  Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.
25  Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
26  Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

HOW To LOVE Practically: Sincere Active Love.

Romans 12:9-21 (NIV)
9  Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
10  Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honour one another above yourselves.
11  Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord.
12  Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
13  Share with God’s people who are in need. Practise hospitality.
14  Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
15  Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
16  Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
17  Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.
18  If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
19  Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
20  On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
21  Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

BEING RENEWED IN OUR THOUGHT LIFE:

Romans 12:1-8 (NIV)
1  Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.
2  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
3  For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
4  Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,
5  so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
6  We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith.
7  If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach;
8  if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

DON’T JUST ASK FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT ONCE; KEEP ASKING TO BE FILLED.

Luke 11:9-13 (NIV) Heavenly Father Is Longing to GIVE you Holy Spirit.
9  “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
10  For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
11  “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead?
12  Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
13  If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Life Through The Holy Spirit

Romans 8:1-17 (ANIV)
1  Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,
2  because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
3  For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man,
4  in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.
5  Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
6  The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace;
7  the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
8  Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
9  You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.
10  But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.
11  And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.
12  Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it.
13  For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,
14  because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
15  For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
16  The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
17  Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

CONCLUSION:

As you seek to serve both God and Others, with LOVE and sincerity, you’ll become aware of the NEED to be constantly FILLED with His Holy Spirit. Jesus knew you’d never be able to do it without His help, so He’s encouraging you to KEEP ASKING and to KEEP BEING FILLED with Holy Spirit.

As you PRAY for your OIKOS (Everyone who knows you and that you are a committed Christian who loves following and serving Jesus).

The Call To Prayer

Pentecost Prayer Week, Time with Jesus every day

Daily Spirit & Word: 736: The Call to PRAYER

JOURNEY in Prayer:

Ephesians 1:15-23 (NIV)
15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16  I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.
17  I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
18  I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19  and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20  which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21  far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22  And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23  which is his body, the fulness of him who fills everything in every way.

I’m PRAYING for YOU: In the lead-up to PRAYER WEEK.

Good morning my friends, sorry I’ve not posted for two days. I’ve been reading, praying, writing, but haven’t had the PEACE to share what I’ve been going through. Perhaps one day I will, but not yet.

PRAYER IS HARD:

Prayer Week: It was really interesting to read David Hathaway’s account of imprisonment (see below), when he eventually ran out of the ability to pray any-more. I don’t know about you, but PRAYER every day is HARD. I love getting up early in the mornings now, reading my Bible, getting into Bible study and writing, reflecting and praying and praising the LORD. It’s taken years to be able to pray like this, but it began when I too felt as a Christian; weak, feeble, alone, abandoned and I didn’t see much answered prayer. I’ll never forget those first few battles with my head and my pillow. I felt as if my pillow was holding onto my head. I loved staying in bed even when awake. It was a battle to get my head off my pillow. Then one morning I had a breakthrough, it was as if the LORD was right there in the room with me and saying “Donald, get up, I’ve got something to share with you”. I was startled, wide-awake and jumped out of bed. I was in a very small room on a training camp with 3000 men and women of the Royal Navy, HMS Sultan. I opened my Bible as usual, but there was something different, I had to write down what I was reading. Then my prayers just flowed. I went from 5 mins of Bible reading and prayer to half-an-hour a morning. Soon, I had to get up even earlier, because I was enjoying the experience of being in the presence of the LORD so much. Now, I’ll get up at 4.45am ready with a cup of coffee to await the sunrise and be with Jesus. Then I’ll get my Bible out and go and sit with Him, asking for revelation. I can’t stay in bed awake any-longer, no matter how loud my pillow shouts at me 🙂 I have to leave it behind to go and be with my Lord Jesus.

This week I’ve been writing every day, but I’ve not been sharing. It’s been challenging and encouraging, perhaps one day I will share, but what I’ve written might upset too many people at the moment. The Lord has been showing me things about me and about our practice of Discipleship in church. It been an eye opener and a challenge to read through Ying Kai’s experience in the Church Planting Ministry.

Prayer Every Day Is Hard, BUT, oh it’s so REWARDING.

THE CHALLENGE:

In the lead-up to PENTECOST we’ve been asked by our Archbishops of Canterbury and York to pray for the EVANGELISATION of the Nation. This, to my knowledge, has never been done before. It’s shows me there’s an awareness of the NEED for people to come back to Jesus. Let’s pray for a mighty outpouring of Holy Spirit POWER on our land.

Next Week: In the lead-up to Pentecost Sunday and our Baptisms: We’re going to be praying every day as a church. I wanted to share that it’s going to be easy, a joy to pray, but I realise that so many of my brothers and sisters in Jesus are not that enthusiastic. You are struggling, like so many Christians today. Many just don’t seem to have the time, because LIFE gets in the way. So in the lead-up to prayer week, I’ve been praying for YOU. I’m spending time with Jesus for you and for me to get ready to pray. I know that if I hadn’t had that personal revelation, that Jesus wants to share with me every day, I’d probably still be listening to my pillow and snuggling up all warm and cozy. I’ve been praying that the LORD Jesus, through the Holy Spirit will give you a call to prayer. We don’t need towers like the Muslims, we don’t need bells like munks, we need God to be our alarm clock. He’ll wake you up on time every day, but we’ve got a hard choice to make, the comfort of the pillow or feet on the floor and over to your Bible.

“NO READ, NO FEED” …. “NO PRAYER, NO BREAKFAST”.

IT IS THE GOOD SHEPHERD WHO FEEDS THE SHEEP:

I’ve got this little chant: “No read, no feed” Meaning, If I don’t read the Bible, then I won’t have breakfast. I soon discovered that if I missed out a time with the LORD then I’d be spiritually malnourished. I would notice that my days didn’t go that well spirituall, I’d loose battles and fall into sin more readily. I was Malnourished or undernourished, which means: I’m not being provided with adequate spiritual food to sustain me through the day. I know that so many good Christian brothers and sisters are constantly going out into this wicked world spiritually malnourished. No wonder they’re loosing battles every day. It’s as if they are on a self-imposed fast from Spiritual Food between Sunday to Sunday. They’ll get a little snack on Sunday in Church hoping that will keep them going all through the week. They don’t realise that it’s just enough food for one day and that the LORD wants to feed them every single day. He doesn’t want them to rely on their Pastor, Minister, Mentor, etc to keep them going, He wants to feed His Sheep Himself.

John 10:7-11 (ESV)
7  So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
8  All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.
9  I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.
10  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
11  I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

If you don’t read your Bible regularly, pray and praise the Lord, then you are going to be spiritually malnourished, underfed, undernourished, half-starved, unfed, ill-fed. You’ll eat your physical foods, breakfast, but will still feel that something is missing. It is! You’ll experience a hunger for time with Jesus, because it’s your time with Jesus and His awesome nourishment that you need.

Prayer is a discipline. Richard Fosters book “A Celebration of Discipline” was an eye-opener for me. I read it as a four-year-old Christian at 28 years old. I learned so much from him about prayer, fasting, time with Jesus, journaling and though he’s not an evangelist, I learned during that time of study and reading about how I should go about sharing-my-faith in Jesus.

So in the lead-up to PRAYER WEEK:

I’m praying for you;

1) That the LORD will give you a wake-up-call. Every day! And you’ll want to respond.
2) That you’ll experience NOURISHMENT when you get up, read your Bible, Pray and Praise the LORD (every day).
3) That you’ll DESIRE to have times of fellowship with other brothers and sisters. Spending time together in Jesus company.
4) That you’ll GET PERSONAL REVELATION when you pray and read God’s Word.
5) That you’ll SHARE your experiences with at least FIVE other people during the week.
6) That you’ll EXPERIENCE soul satisfaction and encouragement in your life every day with Jesus.
7) That you’ll get the JOY of the LORD: He’ll put an NEW SONG in your heart. (Psalm 40:3)
8) That you’ll begin to SHINE like Moses because you’ve been in the presence of Jesus. Your GLORY GLOW.
9) That you’ll ENJOY seeking His FACE rather than His Hand. It’s so tempting to ask God just to do stuff for us, but what about seeking His FACE and His Glory, so that we can SERVE Him better instead.
10) That you’ll be able to WORSHIP in song and ENJOY extended periods of reflection throughout your days during prayer week.

  • Pray for the Baptism Candidates: Pray that the LORD will prepare their hearts to be His people, the sheep of His pasture.
  • Pray for Discipleship / Evangelism / Personal Growth of Followers of Jesus.
  • Pray for Evangelisation of our Nation: That there would be a NATIONAL Revival. Holy Spirit come in POWER on our land.
  • Pray for the Renewal and Fire of Holy Spirit for ALL Christians.

Be blessed and stay close to Jesus, every day. Amen.

Don.

David Hathaway shared on Facebook:

Listen Here: David’s Testimony of Imprisonment.

I want to teach you HOW to pray. I’m an evangelist, but I cannot evangelise without prayer. Without that I have no power in my ministry. When I was in a communist prison in 1972 for smuggling Bibles into the Communist Bloc (2 tonnes every time I came), I was pastor, evangelist – but I had to learn all over again HOW to pray. For the first six months, it seemed as if there was NO answer. I prayed I would be released – but I was condemned in the court to stay. I prayed for food – there was none. I prayed my wife would be able to visit me – she was refused permission. For six months I was learning HOW to pray in a cell where I was never alone – I shared my cramped cell with a murderer, drug smugglers, criminals – the lights were on 24 hours a day – the guards brutalised us every night. The only place of comfort that I had was a wooden stool with nails in it – I was forced to sit on that for more than 12 hours a day! Conditions were extreme.

HOW could I learn how to pray? I had to deprive myself physically, so that with no watch, no clock, I could force myself awake in the night in order to be alone with God. But there was NO answer. I remember the emotion that morning, after six months, in the early hours, and I was saying, “Oh God I can’t pray any more. Every prayer – You don’t answer. Every time I call – the answer is NO. Oh God, I cannot talk with You, I cannot pray, I’m better dead. Why live, if I have no communion with You? Why live, if You have forgotten me?” In desperation, that morning, in the awfulness of that cell, as I sat on those nails, I couldn’t cry out to God any more.

And then I remembered the words of the disciples to Jesus, when even they didn’t know how to pray, and I cried out like them, “Oh Lord, teach me HOW to pray!” And the Holy Spirit reminded me of the Lord’s Prayer. As a boy I attended a boys’ school, where every morning we had to repeat the Lord’s Prayer. To the other boys it was not a prayer, it was a blasphemy, so that I vowed from my childhood I would never ever recite the Lord’s Prayer, because Jesus said we must avoid vain, empty repetitions – the heathen do that.

So I began to say, “Our Father”, but I argued, “That’s plural, I’m alone in here. I’m not in church. I have to say, ‘my’ Father!” Suddenly I knew, He’s MINE! He’s my FATHER! I’m HIS child! I’m locked in this stinking prison, but He’s not only MINE, He’s my FATHER!

Real prayer is not when everything is OK, it’s when you are in the pit of hell, when the devil is surrounding you, when you don’t know how to open your mouth to pray… But something from within tells you, “He’s MINE! He’s MY Father! He sent His Son to experience hell on earth – for ME!”

Ephesians 1

Ephesians 1:1-23 (ESV)
1  Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are in Ephesus, and are faithful in Christ Jesus:
2  Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,
4  even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love
5  he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,
6  to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.

7  In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8  which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9  making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10  as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.
11  In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12  so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.
13  In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14  who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

15  For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16  I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17  that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18  having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19  and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20  that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21  far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22  And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23  which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Daily Spirit & Word: 729: Renewing Our Stinking Thinking.

How to fulfill your gifting, calling and mission by following Holy Spirit promptings.

Good morning my friends, I’ve had a busy but rewarding week so far, how’s your week going? Most people look forward to Friday, to having a day off from their labours. However, this weekend for me is going to be ‘really’ busy too. You know something, if it was quiet we’d probably wonder what to do with ourselves, but there’s a time for everything God’s Word tells us.

Not a lot of people know this, but once I used to sing and play the guitar in a small group that went from church to church teaching and preaching renewal. This was in the 1980s, I was a very young Christian then (not age wise, but longevity), and to be honest I didn’t fully understand the renewal mission I was part of. All I knew is that we were filled with the Holy Spirit and others needed to know about it and get it too. It was a wonderful time and we saw God’s awesome hands at work in people’s lives, as they were filled and transformed.

One little church we visited in Devonport in Plymouth was at the foot of a mighty poverty stricken estate, it was an A. O. G. fellowship, being run at the time by four very old ladies. What a shock I was in for, because we thought we were going to encourage them, let them get more of Holy Spirit power for their ministry of outreach, but as the evening progressed the LORD was about to give me a huge lesson. These ladies were more filled, empowered and knowledgeable about the LORD than I’ll ever hope to be. Talk about being put-in-your-place. No wonder the Bible encourages us in this way;

Romans 12:1-21 (NIV)
7  If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach;
8  if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

If ever you wanted a LIST of HOW to LIVE the Spirit Filled Life: then all you’d need to do is study Romans 12. It is a GOLD MINE: Full of precious golden spiritual nuggets.

Renewal: In this passage is right up there too “The renewing of your mind” Romans 12:2… How do we get that?

Thankfully the LORD renewed my thinking that day, but I wasn’t fully aware of all the Scriptures then on ‘renewing our minds’, I’m still learning today. But here’s HOW God wants to renew our minds: Titus 3:1-8 (NIV)
1 Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good 2  to slander no-one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility towards all men. 3  At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4  But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour appeared, 5  he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6  whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Saviour, 7  so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
8  This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

Renewal of the MIND is by the RENEWAL of the HOLY SPIRIT: We are being transformed, changed, renewed by Him every single day we live the Christian life. It begins with the REBIRTH: I remember how my own thinking changed immediately; I once thought God’s Word was just a collection of stories, He changed that and I KNEW from that moment on it was God’s WORD, living and active. Awesome! I once thought as a young Christian that homosexuality was ok, just let them get on with it, who are we to judge etc… but then as I got my mind renewed by the Holy Spirit, I began to see a new level of morality in God’s Word and it challenged me to the core of my being, but I accepted it, submitted to it and began to teach / share with others what God has been teaching me.

Over The Years: When I first began to proclaim the Gospel, I did so parrot fashion, I’d learned from people like Billy Graham and other great Evangelists, but swallowed the modern thinking of ‘not being offensive’ so I left out a lot of Biblical Gospel demands; repentance, sorrow for sin, true conversion. My appeal was like most modern churches, to a better life rather than a transformed life. I re-discovered the Gospel is more about righteousness than life enhancement. So the LORD couldn’t leave me in that false message for very long. I had to repent big-time and learn afresh the full Gospel message; oh how the LORD is continually renewing our stinking thinking.

Sober Judgement of SELF:

“Don’t think too highly about yourself”, i.e. it’s not all about ME… We are part of a body with different functions and gifts, we need each other and if one part is not functioning the whole body suffers as a result. A body is JOINED TOGETHER (We belong to each other), we’re so closely related we’re the SAME BODY… You know when someone gets a transplant then they are put on a course of anti-rejection drugs for the rest of their life, in case the body rejects the new organ, but in Christ we’re so compatible in Him that we’re part of the SAME body as Jesus. No wonder we’re encouraged to be sober-minded about our own worth…

Another passage along the same lines as Romans 12 is Philippians 2. “Consider others better than yourself”

Philippians 2:2-5 (NIV)
2 … then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.
3  Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
4  Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
5  Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

In that run-down chapel on a run-down housing estate in Devonport my Lord Jesus taught me a valuable lesson and humbled me to the point of tears. I had to repent of an attitude of superiority, and of thinking of myself as ‘better’ than another member of my own Christ family. We were going to give them some ‘RENEWAL’, but in reality is was ME who was most renewed that night, in my thinking, my attitude and my presumptuous nature. It was the most uncomfortable, but at the same time, most rewarding night of renewal in my life. Praise the LORD.

The scriptures on Renewal are always choc-full of practical advice. Of how to apply to our lives what we see and hear, I began this week with that teaching on changed desires, changed attitudes, changed life, and the Lord has reminded me of just how practical His Word really is. I hope this week’s been a rich source of golden nuggets and blessings for you too.

Be full of Holy Spirit and let Him RENEW your mind, then you’re desires will be to fulfil His prompting, His calling and His gifting. Amen!

What we all need is: Mind Renewal, Mind Transformation, A New Paradigm, A Biblical Perspective on life, living, worship… Complete Renewal. Thankfully when we’re getting filled and sharing what we already know He’s going to take us deeper into Himself. Awesome!

The Biblical Gospel is all about LIFE TRANSFORMATION

Being TRANSFORMED in our thinking is just learning to think like God on how we should be living in this world.

Life transformation beats life enhancement hands down. “What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?”…

Let’s pray the LORD will RENEW all our stinking thinking. Amen!

This weekend is going to be AWESOME with Holy Spirit signs and wonders. Let Him fill your heart right now.

Jesus Christ Is Alive Today

Why are you looking for the living among the dead, He is not here, He is risen

Daily Spirit & Word: 712: Happy Resurrection Sunday

The Angel said to the Crowd of Ladies who went to the Tomb of Jesus, “Why do you look for the living among the dead, He is not here; He has risen”

I love that song / hymn of praise “Jesus Christ is alive today, I know, I know it’s true” But how can we KNOW for sure? You need to meet the Risen Saviour.

On this Resurrection Sunday, I want to say, “Happy Easter: i.e. I want all of you to have an enjoyable holiday time with friends, family, children with Easter Eggs and a lovely Easter Sunday Dinner etc, but I’m looking for another word, other than Easter, because it’s not Easter we Christians are celebrating, but the Resurrected LIFE of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. So I’m going to say, “Happy Resurrection Sunday” instead.

Let’s share that with Each other NOW: Say to your friends and family members, “Happy Resurrection Sunday”… Let the world KNOW we’re really celebrating the fact the Jesus Christ has risen from the dead.

GREETING ON Resurrection Sunday:

The Traditional Greeting on Resurrection Sunday is: “Christ is Risen”, and the crowds respond with, “He has Risen indeed, Alleluia”.

THE GOSPEL MESSAGE

1 Corinthians 15:1-8 (NIV)
1
Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand.
2  By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3  For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
4  that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
5  and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.
6  After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.
7  Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles,
8  and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

He is not here, he has risen
Why are you looking for the living among the dead?

1) Getting Ready For Resurrection Sunday:

Before we came to church today, we washed our faces (I hope 🙂 ). We did this to get ready to meet and greet one another. We did it to come before Jesus in worship. However, the Lord Jesus wants us to get ready in another way, to get ready for Resurrection Sunday.

Luke 23:50-56, 24:1-12 (NIV) Women Get Spices and Perfume Ready.
50 Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man,
51  who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea and he was waiting for the kingdom of God.
52  Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body.
53  Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no-one had yet been laid.
54  It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.
55  The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it.
56  Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.

Those women didn’t know that Jesus was alive, they thought they were going to anoint a dead body with spices and perfumes, but what a shock and wonderful surprise they were about to get.

We too can get ourselves ready for Resurrection Sunday: By coming to Jesus and being forgiven and purified from all our sins.

Jesus died upon that Cross so that we can be forgiven: Let’s make sure we’re smelling good for Jesus today. Confess any known sin in your life right now. Take time to do this: Perfumed and Perfect in Christ: Forgiven and Cleansed from all sin. His blood purifies us from ALL SIN.

2) Getting Revelation On Resurrection Sunday: Bible Reading.

Easter Eggs: Shape of a Stone: The Stone The Angels Rolled Away.

Luke 24:1-12 (NIV) Revelation For Resurrection Sunday.
1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.
2  They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3  but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
4  While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.
5  In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6  He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7  ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ “
8  Then they remembered his words.
9  When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others.
10  It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles.
11  But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.
12  Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.

Did you get your revelation today? I got mine, because I didn’t realise that there were so many women at the tomb that day. I’ve been reading these same passages for over 30 years now, I’ve never noticed it was more than THREE… There was a crowd of ladies, we don’t know how many, but more than three.

I got another revelation: In every encounter with the Resurrected Christ there’s: Revelation (He’s not dead or they meet him, the see him, they can touch him, he eats with them. Then Jesus or the Angels instruct those to whom revelation is given. Then they are commissioned: Go and Tell… WOWzer! That’s the same for you and me.

3) Getting Your Commission On Resurrection Sunday. (GO).

In a few moments I’m going to say “Go” You’ll go and find some Easter Eggs hidden in the Church… But I want to say a bit more about How The Lord Commissioned Us: But I want you to see: That at each encounter with Jesus Resurrection: There’s Revelation, Physical Proof, Explanation / Instruction from the Scriptures and Commission.

After the Road To Emmaus: Luke 24:13-35. Jesus shows up again.

Luke 24:36-49 (NIV) Jesus Appeared, Showed hands and feet, ate, explained the Scriptures, commissioned and blessed.
36  While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
37  They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.
38  He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?
39  Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
40  When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.
41  And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”
42  They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43  and he took it and ate it in their presence.
44  He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” (The History, Writings and Poetry of Scripture Reveal Christ).
45  Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.
46  He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
47  and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48  You are witnesses of these things. 49  I am going to send you what my Father has promised (The Holy Spirit); but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

What JOY!
What Amazement!

Imagine seeing your beloved Messiah again after He died upon the Cross: Alive? After the beating, the betrayal, the brutality; ALIVE…

NOTICE: At each of the Resurrection Appearances in Luke’s Gospel: there is first Revelation, then Explanation, then Commission.

My friends, when you Come to Faith in Jesus: i.e. You know Him, that He is ALIVE.

Then you get to know more about Him from the Bible, the Scriptures.

Then you get to Go for Him, to tell the world: Beginning in your family, neighbourhood, area, country, world.

Go and be His Witnesses: Tell about the Resurrected Lord, The Crucified Lord, The Ascended Lord, The Power of the Lord through His Holy Spirit. You go and you tell… For when you tell FAITH COMES to those who’s hearts have been prepared by the Holy Spirit. (Rom 10:17)

My friends, we who believe in The Resurrected Living Lord Jesus Christ have been truly blessed; we have received;

  • Revelation: We KNOW Jesus is Alive. We can say, “He’s my Lord”.
  • Explanation: Instruction in the Scriptures / Bible about Jesus and God’s Word / Commands. (Discipleship).
  • Empowerment: New Birth from the Holy Spirit and New Life and New Power (Gifts and presence of Holy Spirit).
  • Commission: Go and tell… Go with Jesus (He’s with you when you go in His Name)… Be obedient Go and Tell… When was the last time you share the Gospel with someone about Jesus?
  • Excitement: When you know the Resurrected Jesus, through faith, belief, repentance and having received Him as your Lord. You’ll experience the Excitement of The Abundant Life (More than happiness, peace and joy)… John 10:10. Philemon 1:6. You’ll get a DEEPER Knowledge of all these good things we have in Christ, through sharing our faith in Him.

Imagine: Charging up your Mobile Phone every day. And never turning it on to talk with someone.

That’s what it’s like if you are a Christian who’s constantly getting filled with the Holy Spirit and NEVER USING your anointing to do anything good with it. When you know the Resurrected Lord Jesus Christ and have been discipled for a while, then He’s commission you too, to go and use your Holy Spirit gifts for His Kingdom Service. GO!

Worship is great, but you’ll get much more, much more, much more REVELATION and ANOINTING if you use the GIFTS He’s already given to you. Share Jesus with everyone, be generous with your anointing, be gracious with your anointing. The world needs to know the Resurrected Lord Jesus Christ.

You know the Resurrected LORD? Good, now go and tell someone about Him. Share Jesus… Have an AWESOME Resurrection Sunday.

Pease and Joy in Jesus.

“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”

Praying For Putin

Take up your Cross Daily

Daily Spirit & Word: 706: Praising The Lord For Putin.

Praying For Those In Authority.

Good morning my friends, I woke up with a WOWzer! in my heart today, because President Putin has announced that Russian Troops will be pulling out of Syria.

Praise the Lord, because this is a real answer to prayer.

You know my friends, The LORD wants you to be praying for your own leaders too?

1 Timothy 2:1-8 (NIV) Praying For Those In Authority.
1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—
2  for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
3  This is good, and pleases God our Saviour,
4  who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
5  For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
6  who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time.
7  And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
8  I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.

You know when you’ve been praying for something, but because it is so fantastically good, you wonder in your heart if it’s going to be possible? Well, for ages I’ve been seeking the Lord for Russia and for President Putin. After all the Word of God encourages us to pray for those in Authority. I’ve been praying that Russia would be at real PEACE with the West and that this conflict in Syria would come to an end.

Of course the Peace that I’m praying for is totally different from not just fighting, I’m asking the Lord to send a massive Revival to Russia, China, America, The Middle East, Iran, Iraq, Syria and India. When I read or watch videos about people coming to trust Jesus it warms my heart no end.

Tinge of Reality: I know that the Lord has promised just before He returns in glory things in this world are not going to get better, but worse and how the love of most will grow cold towards the Lord and His people. I know that, but I’m not going to stop praying for millions to come to faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Send REVIVAL Lord.

Last night at our monthly PCC Meeting, I shared about how sometimes we pray.

My wife is not very technically minded. She’s pressed her mouse button to get something to print. It didn’t work, so she pressed the mouse button again. Still the printer didn’t print, so she pressed it again and again and again… Then she shouted for me to come, “Donald, the Printer is NOT working!”

I trudged up the stairs, because this is a recurring problem. I asked my wife, “Darling did you wait for a little while for it to begin printing before you pressed the button again?” She said, “Of course I did”… I walked over to the printer and looked at it. That’s all I did, look at it, then it began to print her document, and another and another, until we had reams of unwanted prints. She just looked at me and said, “Don’t say a word”… LOL

I think sometimes we PRAY, like my wife presses her mouse button.

We ask the Lord for something, and just before He’s about to answer us, we PRAY for the same thing again, then just before He is about to answer us, we pray again. When all the time the Lord is working behind the scenes, getting ready to answer our prayer, we’re bothering Him. Can you imagine God saying, “Stop pressing your mouse button, I heard you the first time”?…

Oh LORD, I just want to thank You and praise You for Russia and the answer to prayer. I know that Syria is not fully at PEACE yet, but Oh LORD, thank you for the encouragement. Thank you for President Putin, let Him experience your blessings in his life Lord. Peace is such a precious thing, bless Russia and President Putin. I’m praying NOW for President Assad.

Someone has suggested that we’d be suckers if we believe every word that comes out of President Putin’s mouth, but, sadly, that’s probably true of many Politicians. They all seem to say one thing, but mean another. However, the fact that he’s now pulling the troops means thousands of Civilians will be more at peace in their land, because Russian bombing will stop.

Praying For Revival:

Let’s get on our knees for President Assad in prayer to the LORD. Syria needs a lasting peace and a mighty outpouring of Holy Spirit Revival. Pray for all those brave Christian brothers and sisters in Jesus who remained in Syria throughout this dangerous conflict, and the countless thousands who’s homes, communities and infrastructure have been devastated by the bombing of both Russia and Assad and the American led team bombing ISIS. Pray for all who’ll trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour in the coming weeks.

Can you imagine what the world would be like if Putin and Assad became believers in Jesus? It may sound fantastical, but that’s what I’m praying for, “Oh Lord lead Putin and Assad to faith and trust in You” Amen.

Don’t stop praying for your own leaders; President Obama in America, David Cameron and Jeremy Corbin here in the UK. After all God has declared “This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, Who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth” 1 Timothy 2:3-4.

Praying With Jesus Every Day.

Did you know that you can have a meeting with Jesus every day?

Luke 9:23-25 (ANIV)
23  Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

24  For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.
25  What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?

If you were invited by the Queen of England to breakfast every day at 6.30am, you’d probably be there right? Well my friends, Jesus wants to meet with you every single day. Prayer is so important for your daily Christian life, you’re going to need Him throughout the day. Are you FOLLOWING JESUS today? When we get baptised we go down into the water and die to ourselves, when we come up out of the water, we’re living for the Lord. We’re NEW in Christ and we’re to die to self daily, not just at our baptism. Jesus won’t ask you if you got baptised, but if you died to self. So say to your Pillow when it wants to keep your head in it’s soft embrace, “NO Mr Pillow, I’m going to meet with Jesus now”… LOL

Don’t just pray for others to have REVIVAL, get one yourself. Amen!

Have an awesome exciting day, be praying to the Lord for many wonderful things, don’t give up, but also don’t forget that mouse button doesn’t need to keep being pressed again and again, the LORD heard you the first time you prayed. Amen!

Don.

Jesus The Faithful Witness: He’s calling you back.

Being a faithful witness for Jesus

Daily Spirit & Word: 677: Jesus The Faithful Witness.

He’s Calling You Back To Himself.

Good morning my friends, first I must mention an exciting meeting I attended yesterday. It was between Church leaders of four Churches in West Norwood: Lansdowne Evangelical, Chatsworth Baptist, Worldwide Mission Fellowship and my Church St Luke’s West Norwood. It was the first time we’ve been able to gather all together this year 2016, but what a meeting. We shared about our fellowships, we shared God’s Word, we shared what Jesus has been putting on our hearts, we shared our personal struggles and finally we shared in a common call and witness to what God is doing in West Norwood. “Jesus is calling believers to Himself in prayer”… I’ve heard that so many times in my walk with Jesus, sometimes there’s a real move or God, sometimes, it’s just the sincere cry of a soul seeking revival, but I believe God is doing something significant here in West Norwood. PRAYER… He’s calling His people back to Himself.

The last thing we talked about and agreed upon was a Walk of Witness this Good Friday: Beginning at 10.00am, we’ll walk down Norwood Road from Tulse Hill to St Luke’s Gardens: Singing, praying and worshipping our Lord Jesus as we remember what He did for us upon the Cross that first Good Friday over 2000 years ago. Come and join with us, EVERY BELIEVER in the Lord Jesus is welcome to join in. There will be hundreds this Good Friday! God’s going to command His blessing, because we’ve gathered in Unity of Spirit and Truth. Come on brothers and sisters; let us all be ‘faithful witnesses’ to what the LORD has done in our lives.

Revelation 1:4-6 (NIV)
4 John, To the seven churches in the province of Asia: Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne, 5  and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, 6  and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

Yesterday I spoke about the significance of the NUMBER SEVEN throughout God’s Word, I shared only a few examples, there are so many more. However, as you are reading the Book of Revelation you will discover John’s preference for the number seven. It occurs fifty-four times.

  • There are seven candle-sticks (Rev 1:12),
  • seven stars (Rev 1:16),
  • seven lamps (Rev 4:5),
  • seven seals (Rev 5:1),
  • seven horns and seven eyes (Rev 5:6),
  • seven thunders (Rev 10:3),
  • seven angels, plagues and bowls (Rev 15:6-8).

The ancient peoples regarded seven as the perfect number, the number of completion and it runs all through the Revelations that Jesus gave to John.

My friends, another one of John’s favourite words is WITNESS:

It’s one of the marks of the authenticity that John is indeed the writer of Revelation. It’s a theme that runs all through his writings; like a bootlace that pull the sides of your shoes together, so the Spirit inspired John to record “WITNESS”. In the Gospel of John is full of the word witness. The letters 1,2 and 3 John are full of witness as is his Revelation. But who is John’s witness? It’s Jesus Christ: John refers to Jesus as “The faithful witness”. You’ll see Jesus referred to as a witness in the Gospel of John as well.

John 18:37 (KJV) “Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”

If Jesus is John’s WITNESS, (and He is), then what is Jesus a witness for?

It’s revealed as we go through John’s Gospel, his writings and Revelation: Jesus was, is and is to come; to be a witness to the TRUTH.

It’s revealed in Revelation regarding Jesus knowledge of the Seven Churches in Asia Minor and Heaven itself. Jesus has deep knowledge are to the true state of the heart of the believers in those churches. He has that same deep knowledge of the truth of the state of our hearts too.

My friends, we are being called back to God: Let us seek Him in PRAYER.

Just coming to the LORD in prayer. You know my friends, we (St Luke’s Church) gather every month for our monthly prayer meeting, but it’s one of our worst attended meetings. Very few of God’s people feel the need to gather to pray. If you want to know how healthy are church is; attend it’s monthly prayer meeting.

It gladdened my heart to hear about a mini-revival in a church close to ours, regarding the monthly prayer meeting. They had only a handful at the new Pastor’s first meeting: He knew his church wasn’t healthy. He prayed about it, asked the Lord what to do and said this; “I said to my people, you don’t need to come, but I ask you to commit to praying on the same day”… WOWzer! The next meeting saw an awesome increase in the numbers attending.

But there’s an even bigger AWAKENING happening; don’t miss it, because God is doing a new work and it’s to do with PRAYER. People won’t need to be evangelised my friends, when we all gather together in prayer the POWER will fall and people will come running to Jesus as they’ve done in countless revivals in our land in the past. PRAYER is the harbinger of REVIVAL.

2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

  • How much does your LAND need this REVIVAL of prayer?
  • How much does your CHURCH need this REVIVAL of prayer?
  • How much does your HEART need this REVIVAL of prayer?

My friends, let’s humble ourselves before God, let’s seek His face, let’s turn from our wicked ways, God promises when we do, He’ll hear our prayers and heal our land. Awesome!

We too are being called back to God: Let us be FAITHFUL WITNESSES,

Just like John, just like our LORD Himself: who is the witness of your heart’s condition. Let us bear witness to the TRUTH that’s been revealed to us. Real UNITY comes when we are united in God’s TRUTH. It’s not a superficial unity that God is looking for, “peace, peace when there is no peace” it’s not a unity that ignores false teaching, fake lifestyles, futile activity in church. We must always bear witness to God’s TRUTH revealed. It will be very costly in these last days before the return of Jesus. The world is getting farther away from Jesus and His Holy Standards of living, of being and of His teaching. So as far as it lies with those who’ve trusted Jesus for Salvation, let us live in Unity and Truth, being His faithful witnesses.

My friends, let’s SEEK THE FACE OF THE LORD.

2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

The NEXT PRAYER MEETING:

We’re gathering next week on Ash Wednesday: 7.00pm for 7.30pm Start: It’s the beginning of Lent.

Come and join me before the LORD. If you can’t be there in person, be there spiritually. Determine in your heart that you are going to be praying with us. God’s calling His people back to Himself.

Let’s get His REVELATION. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches”.

Every blessing in our Lord Jesus,

Don.

P.S. I’ve just checked the Stats on this Website and found that people are seeking God:

The favourite page last month was: My Chains Fell Off

Peter's Chains Fell Off
Freedom, Chains Fall Off, Peace in Jesus.

Healing on The Sabbath

Healing on the Sabbath

Daily Spirit & Word: 666:

Religious People Want To Kill Jesus.

Opposition to Jesus is Growing Today.

Good morning my friends, it’s frightful that there are such striking similarities between attitudes towards Jesus and the Christian faith in His time and our own. We’re back with Mark’s Gospel again today, it’s remarkable how much the opposition to Jesus is growing, and today we’ll discover how the plot thickens to such a boiling point that they want to kill the Lord Jesus: To murder Him.  Also, there are growing hostilities towards Christians and Christianity in the world today.

Mark 3:1-6 (NIV)
1 Another time he went into the synagogue, and a man with a shrivelled hand was there.
2  Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath.
3  Jesus said to the man with the shrivelled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”
4  Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.
5  He looked round at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.
6  Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.

The Place: It’s a synagogue.

The Temple in Jerusalem was not the only place that Jewish people gathered and worshipped the LORD. Because it was impractical to get to the Temple every week from all over the Land, Synagogues (Places of worship) were established to encourage devotion to God and instruct the Jews in the understanding of the Scriptures.

Note: Mark doesn’t tell us anything about what they did in the Synagogue that day, but by saying Synagogue, we know what they will have been doing; Praying, reading from the Jewish Scriptures, Study and sometimes a Rabbi would do some teaching / instruction. It was considered a Holy Place because of the worship of the LORD. It was also a meeting place for the Jewish Community.

The Man With The Shrivelled Hand.

Mark Immediately brings our attention to the subject: The Man with the Shrivelled hand and the fact that the Pharisees were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus of being a Sabbath Breaker.

Why? Why were they looking to see if Jesus would heal the man on the Sabbath? By now the Pharisees knew that Jesus was a man of great compassion for people. He’d been healing many people of all kinds of diseases. Perhaps they even planted the man in the Congregation that day. (They were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus).

They watched Him closely… This reveals to us their attitude towards Jesus ministry, that they were very intent of finding a reason to get rid of him. However, we need to understand why there was this growing tension.

You’ve probably heard the expression; “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”, well, these Jewish religious leaders had also been scorned, they’d been upset by Jesus actions, teaching and public correction.

Some Background: (Shows us WHY they wanted to get rid of Jesus).

  • Remember that Jesus said He had come for “Sinners” not the righteous. Mark 2:17.
  • Remember that Jesus didn’t KEEP their RULES. Mark 2:18, 23.
  • Remember that Jesus had shown them they were wrong; from their own Holy Book: The Scriptures. Their understanding of their own religion was wrong. Mark 2:19-22, 25, 26.
  • Remember that Jesus even dared to say; That HE was LORD of the Sabbath. Mark 2:28.

It’s NO WONDER: It’s not a surprise to us now that they were opposed to Jesus, so the Pharisees began looking for a good reason to ACCUSE Him. A way to bring righteous judgement upon Jesus own head so that they could get rid of this upstart, this troublemaker.

MOST PEOPLE TODAY: The Attitude of People Today.

Most people today don’t hate Jesus nor are they opposed to Him the way that the religious Jews were in this account from Mark. The vast majority who know history and a little bit of the Bible think that Jesus was a very good man, Muslims believe Jesus was a Prophet, but they don’t hate Him. Most people today, know about Jesus teachings, but they just choose not to follow Him or His teachings. It’s as if Jesus is irrelevant to modern day life for most people. However that indifferent attitude changes once people really understand the implications of Jesus teaching and ministry even today.

The truth is: If we really UNDERSTAND Jesus we will either; love Him or hate Him.

  • We will LOVE Him; because He came into this world to be our Saviour: Who saves us as sinners from God’s wrath and judgement and condemnation to Hell.
  • Or we will HATE Him: because He reveals our sinful condition and that we a guilty before God.

RELIGIOUS PEOPLE: The Pharisees of Jesus Time:

We must also remember, it was in a Synagogue: This was a Holy Place, these people were very religious. However, it also shows us (perhaps as a warning today) that it’s possible to be “very religious” and yet be far away from God.

John the Baptist called these Pharisees; Hypocrites (they didn’t live like they should) and “A brood of vipers” (A viper is a poisonous snake) and “Whitewashed tombs, full of dead men’s bones” (Looking pure, clean and good on the outside, but inside they are DEAD). That’s what the Bible reveals about these ‘religious’ Pharisees: But today we’re going to see that they were also Treacherous and Deadly.

HEALING ON THE SABBATH:

They were watching to see if Jesus would HEAL on the SABBATH.

Is it WRONG to heal on the Sabbath day?

According to the Pharisees it was considered WORK.

According to Jesus: It was an opportunity to show COMPASSION. (Verse 4, )

As we discovered last week: it is WRONG to WORK on the Sabbath: However, is doing GOOD deeds for others what God would consider WORK?

Think About It: Exodus 35:2 (NIV) “For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death.”

God has said that we can work in our regular employment for SIX DAYS a WEEK: But the seventh day is to be a day of rest from our LABOURS and a Day to Honour Him….i.e. It’s our NORMAL EMPLOYMENT, our work activity that we’re to rest from.

Remember what Jesus said about the Sabbath: “The Sabbath was made for man (for man’s benefit), not man for the Sabbath”.

Then we come to Jesus ‘Healing on the Sabbath’. Get this and you’ll get real REVELATION.

THE MAN WITH THE SHRIVELLED HAND.

Note: In those days, there was no welfare state, no disability allowances. If a man had a shrivelled hand, his employment was limited. You can’t use a powerless, useless hand to do anything. He was crippled. No wonder Jesus had compassion upon him. That’s what God is like my friends, He sees our NEED and longs to do something about it. Either through other people, you and me or through a miracle.

HERODIANS:

These were people who supported King Herod: Herod was a vassal Jesus King, a Supporter of Rome. Normally the Pharisees and Herodians hated each other, but now they were joining together in a plot to kill Jesus.

HARD HEARTED PHARISEES:

This section of the Bible is really SAD: Because it shows that we can be very religious and devoted in our religion, but become so hard-hearted that we begin to loose our compassion for people.

  • Every time we see a person in need; it’s God’s appointment to do something good.
  • Every time we see a person with trouble; God’s bringing them to our attention, to be His hands, His voice, His presence for them.

The Pharisees; they looked at this man with a shrivelled hand, only as an opportunity to do wrong.

The Lord Jesus: viewed the man with the shrivelled hand, only as an opportunity to do something good; to show compassion, care, love, concern, sympathy. He healed him on the Sabbath (God is ALWAYS willing to do us good, every day).

What does Mark 3:1-6 show us today?

  • In Jesus we observe a willingness to care;
  • That God cares, is interested in the minute of our daily lives.
  • That God Heals and does ‘good’ every single day. He doesn’t consider doing ‘good’ for others work, but a Joy and a Delight.
  • It also shows us how much we should be concerned for our fellow-man; to have fellow feelings. To show and demonstrate LOVE by doing good whenever we can, even on the Sabbath or Holy Day.
  • It also reveals that Jesus Christ considers Healing and Doing Good a joy and delight rather than WORK.
  • Opposition towards Jesus grew the more good that He did; don’t be surprised when you are doing good and the world hates you all the more for it.

Jesus Anger and Distress:

The Verse That Gets Me Today: Jesus feelings revealed:

Mark 3:5  “He looked round at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts…”

They would not answer Jesus. He asked them a question and they refused to answer.

“Which is lawful to do on the Sabbath day, to do good or evil, to save life or to kill?” It’s OBVIOUS! The Answer was so obvious, but they remained silent.

My friends, that attitude got Jesus Christ very ANGRY indeed.

Not only angry, but deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts.

Now I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be on the receiving end of Jesus’ anger or wrath or to make Him distressed at my stubborn heart. I want to be able to shout out in response to Jesus question; “Oh LORD Jesus, let me be one of your followers today who’ll answer loudly; “To do good and to save life”…. Amen!

It also shows us that it’s possible to be very religious and remain Hard-Hearted and Stubborn. Religious but closed-off towards God.

They were NOT willing to learn from Jesus Christ; they remained STUBBORN HEARTED. He challenged their positions of power, but He also challenged their attitudes to other people in many different ways; the sinners, the outcasts, the sick, the poor, the lame; Jesus was always willing to; CARE, to TOUCH the Untouchables, to have compassion and to DO GOOD. Are we?

We too, like Jesus may become angry and distressed at the stubborn unbelief of people in the world. Also there is growing opposition and tension between Christians and the world under Satan’s blindness. Christians and Christianity are the least tolerated group of people in the world today. It seems to be OK to blaspheme Jesus on TV, Movies and even mainstream media, but not the faith of Islam, Hinduism etc… Have you ever asked yourself why that is? This attitude of indifference, unbelief and hostility will only get worse as time draws ever closer to the return of Jesus in glory. But don’t stay angry too long, get the big picture, the LORD is in control, He’s coming soon.

So what should our attitude be like?

Philippians 2:5-11 (NIV)
5  Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
6  Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7  but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8  And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!
9  Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10  that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11  and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus healed on the Sabbath Day, but instead of rejoicing and giving thanks to God for a miracle, the opposition increased. To such a point that they eventually took the life of the most Holy man to walk the Earth; the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified.

When you focus upon the Son of God, and determine in your heart to live His way, then He seems to have a way of drying your tears and easing your fears. He makes your burdens lighter and your pathway brighter. When you decide to honour the King of Kings, He will supply all your needs. When you love Jesus, then your fear melts away as fast as the snow did in London yesterday. Amen.

Finally: One Day EVERYBODY will have to face this Jesus Christ.

Revelation 1:7-8 (NIV  “Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen
8  “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

These Pharisees and the Herodians with the Romans and Jews eventually succeeded in their plotting and managed to KILL Jesus Christ on the Cross. However; Praise the LORD: He is ALIVE today, because the grave couldn’t keep Him.

Every EYE: will see Him. Those who pierced Him: The Pharisees, The Herodians, The Romans, The Jews, You and Me: We’ll all see Jesus one day. On that day; we’ll either be rejoicing because we’ve turned in repentance and faith or we’ll “mourn because of Him”… But on that Day: Every knee will bow before Him.

Let’s make certain we’re in that number who’ll be rejoicing and not mourning on the Day that Jesus comes. Amen!

  • Have Compassion of Jesus every day.
  • Remember He still cares for you.
  • Respond to Jesus teaching.
  • Repent from your sins and hardness of heart today.
  • Receive Him as your LORD.

Let us pray:

Hope you all have a wonderful week full of the JOY of the LORD Jesus Christ.

Don’t get too perplexed at the opposition towards Christianity, it’s pre-ordained and will grow as the time draws for Jesus return in glory. Remain steadfast and fix your eyes on Jesus. Live joyfully in His abundant life and look forward to being with Him forever. Amen.

Desiring To Become A Prophet

The Holy Spirit On All People

Daily Spirit & Word 575:

Do you desire to become a Prophet of the LORD?

It’s amazing, you know when you are reading the Bible and come across it’s great characters that were used by the LORD in wonderful ways, do you ever get a hunger or desire to be like them for the LORD today? Think about Moses or Joshua or King David and Solomon, how the LORD used them: Think about Samuel, Elijah and Elisha and how the LORD used them: Think about Deborah, Esther, Elizabeth, Mary, Phoebe, Lydia and Chloe and how the LORD used them. These people are just a few, but think about down through history and how the LORD has powerfully used individuals to influence the times in which they lived. In each era of human history the LORD has chosen and anointed many thousands of people to become an influence for good, in such a way that countless thousands of others have been encouraged and inspired to become more holy, righteous and good themselves. Because of the way they’ve lived, people are hungering and thirsting to get to know the LORD Jesus Christ even long after their death:

Think about modern times, who’s recently been used by the LORD as an influence on a world-wide scale for good, that even non-Christians know about them? Billy Graham, C.S. Lewis, Reinhard Bonnke.

The Bible (God’s Word) reveals that before the advent of the Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, it was only certain individuals who were possessed by the Holy Spirit to prophesy and influence their world for good and for God’s glory, but long before Jesus came, one of those Prophets of the Lord tells us a time will come when everyone will become a prophet.

The Day of The LORD:

Joel 2:28-32 28 “And afterwards, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.
29  Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.
30  I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke.
31  The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.

32  And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the LORD has said, among the survivors whom the LORD calls.

By this prophesy Joel was forthtelling or foretelling the future. Forthtelling = the immediate future and foretelling speaks about the distant future. Joel was doing both in his prophetic utterances. Sometimes the prophet was aware of this and sometimes unaware that he was being used by the LORD.

We can see a two-fold foretelling unfolding from Joel’s prophesy: When he declared that there would be signs in the heavens and on the earth; you would think it’s all to do with the signs that accompanied the arrival and birth of our Saviour in Bethlehem: The Star followed by the wise men from the East. The miraculous pregnancy of Mary and Elizabeth. The Angels appearing to Shepherds and their vision of Heaven. However, we also see it being unfolded in the lives of the Apostles after Jesus returned to Heaven: The Day of Pentecost when Peter and the other disciples began to prophesy and thousands came to trust in the Saviour.

Peter said about that incident: (It’s quite a long reading, but please don’t rush it, take time over the words and ask the LORD to be speaking to you today as you read them again). The PROMISED HOLY SPIRIT.

Acts 2:14-41

14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.
15  These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16  No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17  ” ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
18  Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
19  I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20  The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21  And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

22  “Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23  This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24  But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.

25  David said about him: ” ‘I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
26  Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will live in hope, 27  because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. 28  You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.’

29  “Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day.
30  But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31  Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay. 32  God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact. 33  Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34  For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, ” ‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand 35  until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.” ‘

36  “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
37  When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
38  Peter replied, “Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39  The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
40  With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”
41  Those who accepted his message were baptised, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

The PROMISE:

My friends, this is a promise from the LORD: When you REPENT AND TRUST in the LORD Jesus Christ and get Baptised in His Name for the forgiveness of your sins, then you too will receive the promised gift of the Holy Spirit and you too will begin to prophesy (proclaim the Word of the Lord).

We always think that Prophesy is foretelling future events, but sometimes it’s just forthtelling (in a Spirit inspired and gifted way) what’s about to happen immediately or what is already happening. God gives Spiritual insight to those whom He has called, both men and women, young and old, WOWzer!

Like King David, who was probably not fully aware of the significance of his words, he was used by the LORD thousands of years beforehand to proclaim future events. You too may be used by the LORD in that way, but more importantly, you are going to be used by the Holy Spirit to be an influence for good in your own time. He’s going to give you His gift to prophesy and proclaim God’s Word in your own generation.

My friends, if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ today, then you ARE a prophet of the LORD, just like the prophets of old. Now do you believe that? Do you accept that He’s going to use you? Are you ready and willing to be used by the Lord in such ways?

Prayer:

Have an awesome weekend, I’m praying that many more believers will recognise their high calling and be used by the Lord to be an influence for good in the home, the workplace, school, college, university, offices, streets and in the neighbourhoods. May people look upon your life and see the good that you are doing and glorify your Father in Heaven. When you open your mouth to speak, speak God’s Word in your time, Oh Holy Spirit please use us ALL today. Amen!

Be blessed today,

Don.

Take Your Eyes Off the Wheels Boy

Getting the Fire of the Holy Spirit going.

Daily Spirit & Word: 548:

“Take Your Eyes OFF The Wheels Boy”

Holy Spirit Gifts #4: HEALING. “Fan Into Flame”

1 Corinthians 12:9  “to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit …”

Good morning my friends, HEALING is a blessed gift of the Holy Spirit. He gives it to individuals even today, but like most of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we’re not going to see it or experience it until we begin to exercise it. Yes every gift needs to be fanned into flame.

In Paul’s second letter to Timothy we read that he’s encouraging him to “stir-up” KJV “fan-into-flame” NIV, The GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. If Timothy needed to do that my friends, then we do too.

My friends, every gift of the Holy Spirit must be used or it’s power within us will dim or dwindle, it will become like: ‘a bruised reed or a smouldering wick: Matthew 12:20  “A bruised reed he will not break, and a smouldering wick he will not snuff out, till he leads justice to victory.” i.e. You’ll never loose it completely. Once God gives you a GIFT it’s yours forever. God will never take back a GIFT that He’s given to you. Romans 11:29  “for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.” He’ll never take them away from you once He’s given you something; Just like all the favours / gifts which God gives to followers of Jesus Christ; including; pardon, forgiveness, peace, joy, salvation, heaven and eternal life.

However, just like every gift we receive, both worldly and spiritual, if we do not use them rightly, they’ll become rusty.

“fan into flame the gift of God”

I remember getting a bike for Christmas one year: Well, it wasn’t truly mine alone, my big brother Joe and I had to share it. When we first got that bike we’d ride it every day for hours at a time. I learned to ride a bike on that bike. My brother Joe just got on and rode along the road, but I got on and fell off. He could even ride it with no hands, I couldn’t do it with two hands on the handlebars.

I’ll never forget that experience: I was going round and round a builder’s yard. I was falling off and the wheels were shaking. I couldn’t understand how my brother could just get on and go, without any wobbles. An old lady, who’d obviously been watching my futile attempts shouted some advice from her balcony; “Don’t look at the wheels boy, don’t look at the wheels!” Those words are ringing in my ears some 50+ years later. “Don’t look at the wheels boy” She was right of course; It took me ages, but once I stopped looking at the wheels I was off. My heart rejoices even now at the tremendous feeling of freedom being able to ride and glide, it was almost as if I was flying. Soon I was able to do what my brother Joe instinctively did, ride with no hands.

It was awesome being able to ride a bike, but I think my trouble learning to do it has taught me something of immense value concerning the Holy Spirit Gifts: If you don’t use it, you’ll begin to loose it. You know the saying, “Once you learn to ride a bike, you’ve learned for life” right? NO! my friends, we do get rusty, and if we don’t use it so will the bike.

After a few weeks we stopped playing on the bike every day, we didn’t treasure it as we did at first. Sometimes, we’d leave it outside in the rain. Then after a while, weeks went by and we’d not even bother to think about riding it. After a few weeks, one day I decided that I wanted to ride my bike, I entered the garden and found the tyres were flat and the wheels stiff to turn. My bike had rusted-up and become so stiff and hard to even push. The chain was all brown and hard and stiff. I remember crying that my bike had gotten into such a state. My dad came and helped me, but it took ages to get my bike working again. Lots of oil and rags to clean it up, new tyres and soon it was back to normal again.

“It got RUSTY through lack of use”

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are like that too.

The GIFT of HEALING: had almost been lost to the church. Over hundreds of years, probably even a 1000 years, the church had surrendered all the gifts to a very select few: the Clergy, the Professionals, the Ministers etc… But that was NEVER God’s intention, so over time is it any wonder that their use had become ‘rusty’ like my old bike? We’d forgotten that God had ever given the church Holy Spirit gifts for every single Christian to use. No wonder the ‘spirituality’ of Christendom faded. It wasn’t until last century, at the turn of the 20th century, with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Azusa Street, April 1906, that Pentecostal Fire came down again. Yes there had been little revivals in many places before, but nothing like this. However, I don’t think we get it even today. The FIRE is not for the ‘supermen and super-women’ of God, it’s for EVERY CHRISTIAN. I believe God is going to bring about an even bigger revival than anything that’s gone before. When the whole church wakes up to the fact that God has given every single Christian Spiritual Gifts, and we ALL begin to use them the way we should have been from the beginning. Oh WOWzer! Can you imagine what fire there’ll be when everyone is; healing, prophesying, loving, giving etc the way that God’s always wanted the Church to be. This is definitely going to be the NEW REVIVAL to beat ALL REVIVALS.

God has given Holy Spirit Gifts to be USED by EVERY Christian.

  • The Church has had it’s eyes on the wheels for far too long.
  • It’s time to take our eyes off the wheels and look towards heaven.
  • Let’s do all we can to “FAN-INTO-FLAME” the Holy Spirit Gifts.
  • Let’s do all we can to “STIR-UP” the Holy Spirit Gifts you’ve been given.

Paul’s encouragement to Timothy: to “fan-into-flame” the gift that he’d received at the laying on of hands reminds me today that we’ve got to KEEP using those wonderful gifts the LORD is still giving to every believer and follower of Jesus Christ today.

The GIFT of HEALING: is still available. God’ continues to bestow that gift, He’s giving that gift to individuals. We need to fan this gift into flame again my friends. Who’s got that gift? You won’t know, until you try healing. Whenever someone is sick ask them, “Would you like me to pray for you?” You’ll very soon discover if the LORD has gifted you. About a year ago I had to ask the Lord’s forgiveness, because I’d stopped laying hands on many people, but I’m doing it again my friends and people are getting healed today.

“Take your eyes off the wheels boy”

Just like me, learning to ride my bike, so the gifts of the Holy Spirit will be like that, at first we’ll be focusing upon how we do it. How we lay hands on etc… but we’ve got to lift our eyes up, past our hands, past the clouds, all the way to Heaven. It’s to the LORD alone that the gift comes from, not how we do it, not what we say, but it’s HIS POWER. It’s nothing of ourselves, it’s all of HIM. He’s the one who gives the POWER to heal, otherwise we’d take the credit for ourselves. Thankfully, we’ve got incidents in the Bible where people began to worship the disciples, as if by their own power they worked miracles, but the disciple had enough Spiritual common sense to rebuke everyone who began to worship them.

Acts 3:12 “When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Men of Israel, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?” It wasn’t Peter it was God.

Acts 10:25-26 “As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. 26  But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.””

We’ve got to get our eyes much higher and we’ll be free to use Holy Spirit Gifts of Healing (and every other gift of the Holy Spirit), but we do need to keep using them, to fan them into flame, to stir-up the gifts given to us.

  • How’s your Holy Spirit gift being used today?
  • Are you exercising your gift or gifts regularly?
  • You need to be.

Oh Lord, Thank you for Mrs Pettigrew, who said those words to help me ride my bike; “Take your eyes off the wheels boy”. Help us Lord!

My prayer today: Friday 3rd of July 2015: “Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today and cry out asking for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit, that every Christian, myself included, will repent of the sin of neglect of the gifts that you’ve bestowed upon us all. Please Lord, help us to fan-into-flames those gifts you’ve given to us. Help us Lord to see ways to use the gifts to bring You glory and bring about the revival we all want to see. Amen”.

It’s the Weekend 🙂 Praise the LORD! Hope you all have a fantastic Friday and Saturday. Remember Sunday is coming. Get to Church, Use your gifts and Praise the Lord!

A Child With A Sharp Knife.

Rebuke a wicked person

A Child With A Sharp Knife

Daily Spirit & Word: 536: A Child With A Sharp Knife.

Good morning my friends, have you ever been in the kitchen preparing food with toddlers running around your ankles? When you notice out of the corner of your eyes a little hand reaching up and grabbing for the biggest, sharpest knife in the house? Even now, just thinking about it, it makes my stomach churn. Why? Because in the hands of a child a sharp knife is lethal. When you watch a child with a sharp knife, they don’t seem to know or care that one side is blunt, but the other side is deadly.

So it is with WISDOM: A wise person will be prudent, but a fool will rush in where angels fear to tread.

 “Whoever corrects a mocker invites insult;
whoever rebukes a wicked man incurs abuse.” Proverbs 9:7

THE MOCKER:

I don’t know if this has been your experience, but when a person is a KNOWN mocker of others, if we try and correct them when they are obviously wrong, then they will insult us, they will mock us. You see my friends, a mocker is not open to correction. So when you innocently or foolishly try and correct a mocker; you’ll offend them and hurt yourself too. It’s like when we stand upon the tail of a venomous-snake unaware, they will turn quickly a spit their venom at us. It’s pure poison my friends, so it is with the mocker. Watch yourselves.

THE WICKED:

It’s the same with a wicked person, a person who’s loving his / her sinful lifestyle, whenever a righteous (not self-righteous) person tries to correct a wicked person, all they’ll get is abuse. You see my friends, a wicked person is not open to correction either. TRYING to rebuke or correct a wicked person is like a child with a knife; you are going to get hurt, because a wicked person will turn into an abuser, because they don’t want their wickedness exposed or interrupted.

Wisdom is telling us in Proverbs 9:7-9 that attempting to correct or rebuke: the wicked, the sinful and the mockers will only result in getting them even more angry and annoyed and will result in an overflow of what’s already in their hearts. Their hearts are heavy with sin.

We had an incident in Church recently:

A man dressed as a woman came into the Foodbank dressed in the most revealing clothing you could ever imagine. No woman in her right mind would dress as he did. Everything was on show and some of the folks in the church were quite rightly offended and some shocked. The Manager tried to have a quiet word with the man; but all she got was his anger and rage at being told his dress was inappropriate for a place of worship. It really was like standing upon a snake. I’ve seen that reaction from him before, a few times, and sometimes he even gets violent with people who don’t like the way he dresses or try to have a quiet word with him.

What does wisdom tell us to do? Put the sharp knife out of reach. Don’t let the children get hurt. Don’t stand on the tail of a venomous snake, don’t try and correct a wicked, immoral, greedy, drunkard, violent, mocker or proud person; because all you’ll get is abuse and anger and hatred in return.

Reaching The Wicked

So how can we ever hope to reach those who are in such a condition? Wisdom tells us in Proverbs that we can’t or we should be very careful in our approach, but God’s Word and the Holy Spirit tells us that we can: Because faith comes by HEARING THE WORD OF GOD. Yes, we will be abused, insulted, mocked and hated by those who are steeped in sin, that’s what happened to Jesus and John the Baptist and the Apostles and Christians down through the ages. But LOVE compels us to bring the LIGHT of the LORD into their darkened lives. But HOW?

What any wicked person needs is to have them preach, correct and rebuke themselves: They need to have their dead, dulled and quieted conscience re-activated. It’s like putting the batteries back into the annoying smoke alarm, they’ve been removed because every time you burn the toast the alarm sounds. So annoying right? But the conscience is like that, when we sin it’s loud at first, but the more we ignore it the quieter the conscience becomes, until like the mocker or wicked person it’s totally silent.

However, we have an inward ally within the heart and life of every single person in the world today, their God given Conscience is still there, but it needs to be revived, to be re-activated, to be awakened out of slumber. How? How can the Conscience be revived?

Don’t talk to the Mocker about his mocking: Don’t talk to the wicked person about his or her’s obvious wicked ways; but use God’s LAW revealed in His Commandments. They will very effectively re-awaken a silenced and deadened conscience and bring about the desired conviction. The Holy Spirit uses the Law to convert a soul and let them know their need of a Saviour. (Remember the first believers preached the Gospel using only the Scriptures that were available at the time: The Old Testament)

Psalm 19:1-14 (NIV)
[For the director of music. A psalm of David.] The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2  Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. 3  There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. 4  Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun, 5  which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. 6  It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from its heat. 7  The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8  The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. 9  The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring for ever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous. 10  They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. 11  By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. 12  Who can discern his errors? Forgive my hidden faults. 13  Keep your servant also from wilful sins; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression. 14  May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Can you see it my friends? How is a Mocker or Wicked person to be corrected? First CREATION speaks to them, then;

  • The Law of the LORD: Revives the Soul or Converts the Soul.
  • The Statutes of the LORD: Are trustworthy (we can trust them): They make simple people wise.
  • The Precepts of the LORD: Are alway right (never wrong): They give JOY to the heart.
  • The Commands of the LORD: Are radiant (bright, light, like a searchlight in the heart). They enable us to see our moral condition.
  • The Fear of the LORD: Is Pure (the beginning of wisdom): Enduring forever.
  • The Ordinances of the LORD: Are sure and righteous: They will never be taken away.

By ALL of these things is your servant warned (rebuked), kept from willful sins, set free from sinful bondage.

The Holy Spirit works on the conscience and brings about conversion using the WORD of God.

Jesus said about people like this, stubborn, hard-hearted people, they will be forever hearing, but never able to perceive. That’s why He taught them in parables. However, guided by the Holy Spirit there are ways to reach even the hardest-hearted persons for the Lord. But Jesus didn’t waste his precious time on the earth chasing after the rich young man, He loved him and let him go.

Watch out for the knives, the snakes and the scorpions in life.

Wisdom is saying, be very careful when you try to correct or rebuke a wicked person. It’s like a child playing with the sharpest knife in the kitchen.
