Jesus Presence, Purpose and Power

Say Yes to Jesus

Daily Spirit & Word, 513: Jesus Presence, Purpose and Power For Your Life.

40 Days With Jesus: Day 29. Matthew 28:16-20.

What a fantastic session we had last night with our 40 Day With Jesus Group. We watched the Video for the week, then discussed our understanding of Christ’s call for our life. We shared about our own life purpose, what we thought our life meant before we started following Jesus and what it means now, since we received Him as Lord. You know my friends, I don’t think you’ll get as much out of doing 40 Days on your own as you will when you share the journey with others. Just a couple of hours sharing and discussing, will nourish, feed and sustain you more than a whole week of personal study. Why? Because Jesus shows or reveals Himself more when we’re together than He does when we’re on our own. And last night was awesome; it was a WOWzer!¬† ūüė鬆 ūüė鬆 ūüė鬆 ūüė鬆 ūüėé

Knowing Jesus’ Purpose For Your Life: When you get it, you’ll be; ON-FIRE with His GLORY, ABLAZE with His MESSAGE and BURNING to SHARE Him with OTHERS.

Before I knew Jesus as LORD of my life, I would have said, “My life’s purpose is to be a success in my chosen career, enjoy life to the max and to be happy and contented”. Ever since I met Him that changed, because when Jesus entered my life He filled me and empowered me to love others and lead them to Him. Now I’d say, “My life’s purpose is to obey Jesus will and love others enough to bring them to Him”. So many people are frightened of sharing Jesus or telling the good news, but since the day I received Jesus, that’s all I’ve wanted to do.

One of the questions on my mind when I was getting close to repenting and trusting in Jesus was this; “If Jesus wants me, what does He want me for?”

Say “YES!” to Jesus: Then you’ll EXPERIENCE: His PRESENCE, PURPOSE¬†and POWER¬†in and for your life.

As you open up your life to Jesus; by Repenting from Sin, Believing that He died for your sins, Having faith that He died for you on the Cross and Receiving Him as your Saviour and Lord, then He’ll begin to give you your own life’s purpose too. However, in Matthew’s Gospel, in what’s been called THE GREAT COMMISSION, Jesus is revealing His will for everyone in the Kingdom. His general purpose, His primary purpose, His over-arching purpose: And that is to BRING others to Him, so that their life can be TRANSFORMED and that they too will be empowered to live for His purposes as well.

Let’s look at that now: THE GREAT COMMISSION.

Matthew 28:16-20 16  Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.
17  When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted.
18 ¬†Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 ¬†and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

God IS with You:

The most important thing for you to realise, before you study your MISSION and PURPOSE, is to know that God is always going to be with you and in you. That’s what will give you the power and the drive and the incentive to carry out His purposes with your life.

When Jesus calls you to do something for Him, He also equips you to do it and is with you throughout the whole process. This is part of God’s side of the Covenant: In the first Covenant with Israel: God called them to be His People, set them free from Bondage in Egypt, then Gave them His mission statement in the 10 Commandments and the Law, then He was with them as they began to fulfill His purposes for the Nation. He manifested His presence with them; in a pillar of smoke by day and a pillar of fire by night. Now Jesus, in the Great Commission: Called you to Himself, gave you His Commands, and today we can see His purpose in commissioning the Church, then He promised He’ll be with us forever to the end of the age. WOWzer! God’s doesn’t change, as the Scriptures tell us: God is the same, yesterday, today and forever. Jesus is with you and in you if you’ve been born of His Spirit. He going to go with you whenever you’re busy obeying His purpose, so don’t ever feel or think that you can’t do it, because the truth is you can’t (not in your own strength) no-body-can, but with God in you, you most definitely can.

All It Takes Is A Heart That Says; “YES!” to God’s Will.

Once you get Jesus in you, you’ve still got a choice every day to do His will or live for yourself. Even after He’s become your LORD, MASTER and FRIEND, He’ll never force you. He wants your willing co-operation: All it takes is a heart that says, “Yes” to Jesus. Then He’ll begin to use you in His Kingdom building business.

What a wonderful privillege He’s give you and me and everyone who comes to Him; to be working with Jesus. It’s good to think about Matthew 28:16-20 The GREAT Commission as a working together with Jesus. We’re not called to work on our own, but we’re working together with Him: Co-Mission.

Notice what happened when people encountered the Resurrected Lord Jesus:

It’s been fascinating to see what’s been happening to people who’ve met the risen, resurrected Jesus Christ from week 1 of 40 Days with Jesus. Everyone who met Him during those 40 Days after He came back to life, was motivated to SHARE that great news with others and commissioned by Jesus to do so:

  1. Mary Magdalene: She is commissioned to tell the Disciples (John 20:17-18).
  2. The Women at the Tomb: Commissioned to “Go and tell…” (Matthew 28:10).
  3. The Two on the Road to Emmaus: They rush back to tell the others… (Luke 24:33).
  4. The Disciples in the Locked Room: (John 20:21).
  5. Peter’s Three-Fold Commission: (John 21:15-19).
  6. On the Mountain In Galilee: (Matthew 28:16-20).
  7. Mark’s Gospel Commission: (Mark 16:15-20).
  8. Disciples During Jesus Final Days: (Luke 24:45-49, Acts 1:3-8).

This repeated pattern of; Meeting with Jesus, Calling and Sending; is repeated again and again and again, throughout the whole of Scripture. When people encountered God in the Old Testament, He called them and commissioned them. Whenever you see people meeting Jesus in the New Testament He’s also calling and sending them too. All through the history of the Church, since the time of Jesus, people who’ve responded to Jesus call have also been given a mission in life. He’s commissioned you too my friends, if you’ve encountered Jesus Christ today, He’s calling you and sending you on His Mission to GO and Make Disciples. He’s equipping you to do it and He’s with you as you obey.

Now, all it takes is a HEART that’s willing to say, “YES” to Jesus and then you’ll begin to experience His presence and His power and His purpose in your own life.

Say “YES!” to Jesus: Then you’ll EXPERIENCE: His PRESENCE, PURPOSE¬†and POWER¬†in and for your life.

Jesus Gives A New Purpose

Daily Spirit & Word, 502: Jesus Gives A New Purpose.

Saturday 2nd of May 2015.

40 Days With Jesus: Day 18: New Purpose.

Good morning my friends, I’m going off in a few minutes to pick up the grandchildren for another adventure with Granny and Papa. My daughter is going over to help one of her friends, who has more than three kids and is finding life a bit tough at the moment. She and a few others have arranged to go and help clean her house and give her a special tread. I don’t know about you, but in my short lifetime I’ve come to understand this, I feel much better about myself afterwards if I help people rather than send them away or walk past without even inclining my head in the direction of need.

Jesus calls us to live this kind of selfless life. I know that there are many, who are not Christians, who live utterly selfless lives and can even put many Christians to shame, but our Lord Jesus Christ, whilst He was here on earth and after the resurrection called everyone who puts their faith and trust in Him into a life of service; God first then everybody else, but why? Why does He call us to serve others?

Imagine for a moment if Jesus had made it the other way around. He was the KING of Kings and LORD of Lords right? Well, Imagine if Jesus had come as a KING, made people into His servants instead of serving. If He came like that, on a great big white Charging Chariot instead of a Donkey. Imagine if He viewed everyone as His slaves, and used His power to make people serve Him. Do you think there would be any followers in the world today? Most people like strong men for a season, for a purpose, to sort out a problem, but they don’t really want a strong many around for very much longer than the duration of the problem. e.g. Winston Churchil, was the right man at the right time to lead the country in time of war, but in time of peace, the populace had little time for his fanciful ideas of Empire etc… He didn’t last long after the war. Yes people were extremely grateful for His wartime efforts,, but barely tolerated that strength in peacetime. Jesus, could have been tolerated as a Big and Mighty KING as long as He was taking care of Israel’s enemies, but as soon as they didn’t need Him, would the people still LOVE their strong leader? History shows that people’s affections are fickle, if they’re not getting what they want, they’ll move off to follow someone else.

Christians are called to model SERVICE and HUMILITY to a world that believes in SUCCESS and PERSONAL HAPPINESS and SATISFACTION. Jesus called us to serve God first and then others with our lives. How are we doing?

In the Resurrection Appearances: Jesus gave the Disciples a foretaste of what was to come: He breathed on them and said, receive the Holy Spirit. He told them that in a few days they would be clothed with POWER from on High, but it was NOT, I repeat, NOT power to Lord it over people or power to be in charge or power to dominate and fascinate, but POWER to SERVE and to BE. He’s giving us the POWER of HEAVEN for His Purposes.

  • 1) Simply to be a Christian.
  • 2) To Worship and Love God.
  • 3) To Serve God.
  • 4) To Love others
  • 5) To serve God by Serving Others.
  • 6) To Help others to come to Know the life of a Christian is to be saved by God and to serve God, then to reach out to others to introduce them to God and server them too.

Jesus Purposes are ALL Selfless. Instead of the world putting Christians to shame, we should be so in love with God, with Jesus the Son of God, with the Holy Spirit who fills and equips us for service, that we’ll be living such good and selfless lives that we’ll put the whole world to shame.

Jesus did say, “It’s by your love for one another, that people will know you are my disciples”.

My friends, Jesus didn’t call us to a life of service to make us feel stupid, to make us feel small and insignificant, but when we’re totally given over to serving God and serving others, then we’ll not only be at total PEACE within, but there’ll be a JOY that the world cannot ever give you and you’ll know your Purpose on earth.

Doing Drugs:

Over the years I’ve lived on earth, I’ve known people who’ve got a high from hard-drugs, but it never lasts and they’ll keep coming back to try and get the same buzz, that same great feeling of ecstasy¬†that it gave them the first time they took it, but they’ll never get it. So they try harder and take stronger more harmful drugs in the endless pursuit of the great big beautiful high. It’s not long before they’re hooked. These dreadful drugs tell people lies my friends. Their lives are ruined and their bodies begin to show it. ¬†One of the people I’ve gotten to know here in London, through years of ministry and service, a great friend, whom I’ve been sharing the Gospel of Jesus, I saw her the other day, and she was stumbling along the road looking like a living skeleton. Her life given over completely to drugs.

It’s so sad watching and being with people who’s lives have been totally wreaked by these most destructive habits, but there’s no drug in the world can make you feel as happy as serving God by helping others. When you get home and put your head on the pillow, you’ll be going off to the land of nod, sleepy time, dreaming about how you can next serve God rather than the empty selfish dreams of personal wealth, health and living your life in endless and soul-draining pursuit of the elusive, smoke-like dream of eternal bliss and happiness. You’ll never be satisfied until you find your satisfaction in God and know what His purpose is for your life. When you get that you’ll desires will be entierly different, it’s like each time you do something good, the feelings get better and better and stronger. The JOY is exponential my friends and doesn’t diminish like the high that drugs can give you. You’ll be going from strength to strength in the POWER of the Holy Spirit.

Points To Ponder:

  • To what extent can you say that you live beyond yourself on a daily basis? i.e. Living For God and Others.
  • Where do you believe the Lord has sent or is going to send you? Maybe He cas called you to a certain city or country. Perhaps it’s a people group the Lord has put upon your heart; e.g. India, Pakistan, Scotland, China, etc… He puts His burdens upon His people. Take some time to bring this question to the Lord and ask afresh where He just may be calling or sending you in life.
  • Remember, whatever the Lord calls you to do for Him in this world, He’s also equipping you to accomplish that task.
  • Most of us are sent initially to our immediate workplace and neighbourhood, to be the Lord’s SALT & LIGHT. This is part of fulfilling our basic mission when we’re called to faith and trust in Jesus and we respond with a loud yes. He’s give you immediate tasks; sharing your faith, as those first witnesses to the Lord immediately did. Your first call is to tell others about Jesus, have you done that?
  • How passionate are you about His call to service? Does it fill you with Joy to be able to serve the Lord? Or are you a reluctant servant? Remember Jesus parable of the two sons. One said he would go and work for his father, but didn’t. The other said he wouldn’t, but thought about it and later changed his mind. However, you find yourself serving the Lord today, try and do it willingly, but do it no matter how you feel, because sometimes when we obediently serve the Lord, great feelings begin to follow.

Prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus, I’m praying that You’ll use me today for Your Glory. May I increasingly be a generous giver of my time and my resources, and all my gifts and talents so that I’ll become an even better servant in Your Kingdom. I’m taking seriously today the part of the prayer you taught us; “Your Kingdom Come: Your Will Be Done” (Matthew 6:10). By Your Holy Spirit, Lord, fill and equip me and lead and guide me into daily service for You. Amen.

Now can you imagine a life better and more satisfying than that? No wonder Jesus looked forward to the Cross and endured it’s pain and agony, He had his mind set on how He’d feel once He’d given His life in service of the Father and YOU. Now He’s calling you to that same high calling. It’s when we give our lives that we find them and our purpose of existence, then the joy of the Lord will flood our soul. When you put your head on the pillow at the end of the day, you’ll sleep like the King’s baby. Amen.

God bless and keep you all close to Him today my friends,

Don.

425 Mission Impossible

426 Mission Impossible Small

Daily Spirit & Word, 425: The Impossible Made Possible.

God can and will do IMPOSSIBLE (Miraculous) things in your life.

Good morning my friends it’s Friday already and the weekend is upon us. I hope you enjoyed reading and reflecting upon Daniel chapter 2 yesterday. Was there anything in God’s Word that spoke to you? Sometimes it’s just one word or one verse, but for me it was the whole story, because although the King is powerful and sees the light in the end, and Daniel and his friends prove, against all the odds, to be faithful to the LORD, but it’s God Almighty who is the Hero for me.
Years ago there was a series on TV that I loved, “Mission Impossible” it was also made into a series of Hollywood Films. Each week a task would be set that seemed impossible for an ordinary human being to perform, but the team (like all¬†heroes) were always successful. Today we’ll see the¬†magicians, enchanters, sorcerers, and astrologers; who were all the wise men in Babylon¬†were also given an impossible mission.
  • God gave the King an impossible dream.
  • The King gave an impossible order.
  • and Daniel did the impossible.

The Impossible Dream:

We all get dreams, some are easy to understand, because they’re the human’s way of making sense of the world subconsciously. Often we’ll dream about things that happen during the day or things we’ve got in our life that we’re worried about. Often God will speak in our dreams and give us answers to our problems.
However, there are times when dreams a puzzling and we wake up thinking, “what on earth was that all about?”
The Great King¬†Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream was troubling him a great deal. But he also knew unless there was a revelation from God, he’d never know what it meant.
The Impossible Order:
¬†He knew that if he’d simply recounted the dream to his ‘wise’ men, they come up with different interpretations about what the dream meant. He didn’t want that, so he devised an impossible solution, they’d first need to tell him what his dream was all about, before they began to give it’s meaning.
The¬†magicians, enchanters, sorcerers, and astrologers in Babylon came to the brilliant conclusion; “IT’S IMPOSSIBLE” and so it is, for no one can tell what’s going on inside another person’s head. Even though the King threatened them with death, the task was impossible because as the wise men of Babylon concluded, “The king‚Äôs demand is impossible. No one except the gods can tell you your dream, and they do not live here among people.‚Ä̬†Dan 2:11.
The King was consistent with his promise that unless they tell him the dream they’d be put to death. Daniel and his friends, pleaded for time and consulted with God.
The Impossible Answer:
After prayer and seeking the LORD, the answer to the IMPOSSIBLE was given.
Daniel and his friend’s lives depended upon God giving them the content and meaning of the king’s dreams.
It’s no wonder then, that as time went on in Babylon: Daniel could be thrown into a Lion’s Den and survive. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego could survive the¬†fiery¬†furnace, because they’d learned over many years to trust in the LORD of the IMPOSSIBLE.
God gave Daniel the King’s Dream and it’s Meaning.
Notice the King’s response: He knew when Daniel spoke it could only have come from Daniel’s God.
The king said to Daniel, ‚ÄúTruly, your God is the greatest of gods, the¬†LORD¬†over kings, a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this secret.‚ÄĚ
Who revealed the secret? Not Daniel, but God. The King knew, Daniel knew and now because of the King’s response all of Babylon, the Great World Empire, would know that there IS a God in Heaven. He’s real, He’s alive and He speaks to people in the world today.
My friends, if ever you doubt God or your faith is growing dim, just turn to these chapters in the book of Daniel in God’s Word. Read them out loud, because “Faith comes by hearing the Word of God”… Your faith will be lifted and God will once again speak to your soul and encourage you in your walk with Him. He’ll give you the confidence to ask for the IMPOSSIBLE. There will of course be testing and trying times in your life, but they are only sent to build you up in the faith.
My IMPOSSIBLE list:
I’m sure, like me, you’ve got a list of IMPOSSIBLE things you are bringing to the LORD in prayer. These are things that you’ll know it’s a MIRACLE if they’re answered. I’ve been ticking off my list, God CAN do it my friends.
This weekend it’s my hope and prayer that you’ll all see mighty IMPOSSIBLE things with God.
Talk with the LORD today about any issues you have in life. Do it with others and I’m convinced that like Daniel and his friends who desperately sought the LORD when their life depended upon it, so your Heavenly Father will reveal His ways.
Proverbs 3:5&6 just jumped into my head right now;
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)
5  Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
6  Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
He truly is the God of the IMPOSSIBLE.
Mission IMPOSSIBLE: Faith’s RESPONSE:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.
Will you trust Him today?
Have an exciting weekend walk with Jesus.
Don.
