The Soul’s Satisfaction.

 Good morning, I was awakened early with the rain beating upon my window. So I got up to read the Word of the LORD. I was reading Lamentations this morning, but I’ve not read that book of Bible very much before. I’ve read it through a few times, but never really studied or meditated upon it. As I read this morning, this little verse jumped up into my HEART…
Lamentations 3:24 “The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.”

What word do you think jumped out a me? The word portion… What is he talking about?

 Then I remembered Aaron’s inheritance in the Promised Land. All the other tribes had been given portions of land to settle into, but not Aaron.

 Numbers 18:20 And the LORD spake unto Aaron, Thou shalt have no inheritance in their land, neither shalt thou have any part among them: I am thy part and thine inheritance among the children of Israel.
 The LORD Himself was to be Aaron’s portion. “I AM your inheritance”.
So what does that mean?
Thankfully Aaron is not alone: Many of the ancient saints knew that the LORD was their Portion, their Inheritance.

Asaph wrote Psalm 73: 

He was meditating upon the prosperity of the wicked people, how they seem to prosper and grow richer and even more wicked. He didn’t think it was very fair, because, he was a devoted man and had so little that this earth seems to offer. In the end though he came to realise a much deeper truth..
Psalm 73:25-26 (NIV)
25  Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
26  My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever.
 NOTE: Who was Asaph? He was a Levite who served the LORD in the Temple and wrote Psalm 50, and Psalms 73-83. He was also a skilled musician, singer and poet. The Bible also refers to him as a seer or prophet of the Lord. (As you know the Levites had no land themselves: Because the LORD was their inheritance {portion}  Deuteronomy 18:1-2 (NIV) The priests, who are Levites, indeed the whole tribe of Levi, are to have no allotment or inheritance with Israel. They shall live on the offerings made to the LORD by fire, for that is their inheritance. 2  They shall have no inheritance among their brothers; the LORD is their inheritance, as he promised them.).

That the LORD Himself was his PORTION:

With the LORD as our portion we’ll have more than we need.
What the LORD seems to be saying to me today is this, that if we are setting our hopes on anything, they should be completely upon the LORD first, because as Jesus promised, when we do that, we’re going to be so blessed.
Matthew 6:32-33 (NKJV)
32  For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
 Those who don’t yet know Jesus Christ as LORD are running after all the glittering things this world has to offer: Money, Fortune, Fame, Fine Clothing, Cars, Gadgets, Houses, Lands, Property, Power, Prestige and Control.
However, those who KNOW Jesus have been set free from worldly desires: Because we know and a satisfied with the Lord Jesus as our portion. Their hearts are consumed with serving the Lord and being satisfied with Heavenly Kingdom Goodies, which are must better by far.
I.E. Go first to the LORD, seek His Kingdom (Thy Kingdom Come), then ALL THESE THINGS SHALL BE ADDED UNTO YOU.
The things of this world don’t really matter, God knows what we need and He’s promised to SUPPLY all our needs. Note, the heart is deceitful above all things. We think we need stuff, we get jealous when the world has lots of stiff and we don’t, but the LORD knows what we need and what we desire and He, like any good parent, gives us just what we need.
The things this world has to offer are tempting. they glitter and shine, and promises joy and happiness, but it’s NOT satisfying and doesn’t last very long. This world doesn’t deliver on its promises. However, in contrast to the world, the LORD always delivers: the JOY of the LORD is your STRENGTH: Like exercising the muscles of your soul, when we go to the LORD first, it will sustain and satisfy you more than anything the world has to offer.
  • Don’t get jealous of what the world has like Asaph.
  • Don’t despise your service and devotion to the LORD as he did.
  • Don’t hanker after the glittering gems of this world.
  • Your PORTION is much more satisfying.
  • Your PORTION is much more secure.
  • Your PORTION is limitless, without end, promised.
  • Your PORTION is the LORD. Amen!

YOUR PORTION IS THE LORD HIMSELF

So my friends, I’m going to keep seeking the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness (not mine), then I know He’ll supply all my needs in this life. He is my portion. Amen!.

Divine Forgetfulness.

What God Forgets & What God Remembers.

Good morning my friends, my holiday has begun. A time to relax, unwind and be renewed. Of course we don’t need holidays to do that, but it feels good to be having a break of sorts. One thing I cannot do is have a break from my quiet time with Jesus; prayer, praise, worship, Bible study and meditation every day. If I’m BLESSED (777) is a good number 🙂

Can’t quite believe that DAILY SPIRIT & WORD is 777 today.

What’s DS&W for? After a 40 Day Bible Study (and sharing on Facebook), I decided to keep going, to keep sharing, to encourage Christians, to build up the Church, to strengthen faith and to lead others to faith and trust in the LORD Jesus Christ.

As a young Christian (Born Again in April 1984) I used to love reading “Every Day With Jesus” by Selwyn Hughes. However, it wasn’t long before my hunger wasn’t satisfied by Hughes’ offerings, brilliant, encouraging and insightful though they were. You see I was reading more of the Bible and being fed by the Holy Spirit as I read and studied myself. Not long after that my study took on a new shape and form by reading and studying “Celebration of Discipline” by Richard Foster… I learned the secrets of Biblical Fasting, Biblical Confession and Repentance, Biblical Meditation and Biblical Prayer. I began to keep a daily journal and record my thoughts, insights from Scripture and prayers. It’s often amazing looking back over the years of prayers, and seeing how the LORD has been so faithful and has answered so many. What strikes me more than anything though, is that He doesn’t always answer in the ways that I’d expected or wanted at the time, but I can see clearly that I must trust HIM, because He knows what’s best and has the future and past available to Him; nothing surprises God. I’m so thankful that He didn’t give me what I wanted, how I wanted, at the time that I wanted it.

He’s been working on my soul to bring it in line with His plan.

Jesus has a wonderful plan for your life too and when you think clearly about what God wants, and how His Divine memory works, you’ll be astounded.

He NEVER Forgets Your Hard Work:

Hebrews 6:10 (NIV) “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” Jesus said something similar in His parable of the Sheep and the Goats, “When you did it for the least of these, you did it for Me”… Awesome.

Matthew 25:31-46 (NIV) The Parable of the Sheep & Goats.
31  “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory.
32  All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

34  “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.

45  “He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46  “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

No my friends, God’s Divine REMEMBRANCE or Holy Memory: Extends to all the GOOD things you do for Him.

NOTE: Remember though, that Good Works cannot SAVE YOUR SOUL, they just prove to you and the world that you’ve been saved by Jesus. We do good works because we are grateful servants, because we’ve been loved, blessed and forgiven by Jesus. We do them not to earn a place in Heaven, that’s already ours because we’ve trusted in Jesus. However, if our FAITH and TRUST don’t then move onto action and good works, we prove that our faith and trust in Jesus wasn’t genuine. If we’re not going about doing good like Jesus as His followers, then we are not saved at all.

However, God remembers you good works, He rewards your Kingdom Labour. He tells us that by doing good we’ll be storing up treasure for ourselves in heaven that will last for all eternity. How RICH are you going to be in Heaven? Have you been busy doing good whilst you can down here on the Earth? Invest in your Heavenly Dwelling Place; that really is your KINGDOM RETIREMENT PLAN: Heavenly Kingdom Investments (Good Works that you keep secret, just between you and God). If you boast about the good things you’ve done for and towards others down here on Earth, then you’ve just taken some of that Heavenly Investment and used it for your earthly glory. So my thinking is, don’t boast about your good works, God will never forget, He keeps a Divine and Holy Record book and will reward you in Heaven. He NEVER forgets.

But What Does God Forget?

He FORGETS your sins.

You’ll be rewarded for your good works done in secret, because God always remembers.

But what’s even more amazing and astounding is that God will forget your sins.

Isaiah 43:25 (NIV) “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.”

Hebrews 8:12 (NIV) “…For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

Psalm 103:11-13 (NIV)
11  For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;
12  as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13  As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;

Oh my friends, how we NEED to get this TRUTH into our hearts, minds and souls today: God chooses to FORGET your sins.

When you truly REPENT and turn away from sin and turn to the LORD for His forgiveness, He really does forgive and cleanse you from every sin, then FORGETS them. He chooses (Somehow) to forget your SIN. I don’t know how God does that, but when you get to heaven and look in His RECORD BOOK of your life, when it comes to your records of sins you are going to see just BLANK pages, because once you truly repent they’re forgotten, forgiven, wiped clean. God will remember your sins no more.

What does that make you feel like? It makes me feel like dancing. It makes me want to serve the LORD with gladness. It make me want to jump and leap for JOY. All my sins are washed away when I turn in complete repentance to Jesus. Of course it took Jesus to die upon the Cross to make this possible, but once you’ve trusted in Jesus, God sees you as completely clean from all your sins. AWESOME!

FORGIVENESS FEELS GOOD

As I was reading that Hebrews verse above, I was encouraged (by the Holy Spirit) to keep reading in context.

WOWzer! God’s written His LAW on the Hearts of EVERYONE… Instead of on tablets of stone, instead of needing to remind children of God’s law, He’s now (under the New Covenant) written His LAW (The Ten Commandments) upon the hearts of every human being, so they KNOW RIGHT from WRONG. When we do wrong, our Conscience will be screaming out to us, don’t do that, God doesn’t like it. When we choose to be obedient, we’ll sense the Holy Spirit’s POWER within and His JOY in our hearts.

Hebrews 8:10-13 (NIV) The New Covenant (New Testament).
10  This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
11  No longer will a man teach his neighbour, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.
12  For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
13  By calling this covenant “new”, he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and ageing will soon disappear.

WOWzer! It’s so encouraging that the LORD Remembers your Good Works, but Forgets your Sins (Bad works, deeds)… He chooses to forget them all, but we MUST TURN in true repentance and put our faith and trust in Jesus. Stop trusting in your own goodness and get right with God by confessing your sins. Once you do that He’ll wipe your records clean in Heaven and you are given a brand new start with a fresh new LIFE. He’s got so much good that He wants you to be busy doing every day for Jesus.

Keep; loving, forgiving, helping, serving, praising, witnessing, leading people to Jesus, encouraging, strengthening, refreshing others with the gifts that the LORD has bestowed upon you.

When the TV gets in the way of LIFE

seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness

Daily Word & Spirit: 724: Does God Get What He Wants?

Good morning my friends, it was such a privilege to conduct two funerals this week, one on Monday and the other yesterday. The first was for a wonderful Christian lady, the church was packed with friends and relatives from all over the world. I proclaimed the Gospel freely and called for a decision for Jesus Christ. Yesterday, an equally lovely lady, but who’s faith I knew very little about, the family said, “She was not a religious lady”… her family, as far as I knew, never attended church. What could I say to those grieving folks?

Matthew 6:25-34 (NIV)
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?
26  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
27  Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
28  “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labour or spin.
29  Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these.
30  If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31  So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
32  For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
33  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
34  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

The second group of mourners were all giving wonderful stories about the woman’s life; she was full of fun, knew how to laugh at herself and loved people, she was generous to a fault, giving so much sometimes that she was in need herself, but just thinking of others. As I read the above passage,I believe the Lord guided me to say, “Just like …. we can all learn from this, she obviously didn’t WORRY about her life”.

The world we live in encourages us to WORRY: i.e. adverts about your weight, style, looks, have you got the right tools, is your home looking like a palace, have you got the right garden furniture, are you eating the right foods, etc, etc,,, You’d be excused if you walked to your bed so worried after watching TV for just one evening. I’m sure you’d dream and they’d be full of worries about life. But thankfully Jesus tells us DO NOT WORRY. Why? Because who of us by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

The Gospel of Luke covers the same teaching of Jesus, but gives us a little more details: Luke 12:25-26 (NIV) “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”

I love the Bible (God’s) logic here, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”

We may or may not have a long life, but worrying about it’s duration won’t guarantee it. I’m sure we can shorten it though, through folly, but we can’t extend it longer than God intends it to be. “The LORD gives and the LORD takes away”… Sometimes, like when you mum or dad confiscated a precious toy when you were a child, that confiscation really hurts. When the LORD takes someone we love, no matter how old they are, it HURTS us, but we can’t lengthen the duration of our lives by worrying about them.

So what are we to do?

Thankfully the Bible gives us the answers:

Matthew 6:33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

1) Seek First The KINGDOM of God.

(Remember that’s same priority in the Lord’s Prayer?)…

When we seek first the Kingdom of God, we’re putting God’s priorities at the TOP of the agenda of our lives.

The woman being buried yesterday loved to play CARDS: Have you ever played Patience? Patience is a game in which you are looking to line-up all your cards on the King, once you get the whole suit; i.e. hearts, spades, clubs or diamonds, onto your King, then that row is won.

My friends, God wants us to line-up our life along the lines of His KINGDOM. i.e. He wants to be our KING. Every aspect of our lives in-line with His Kingdom priorities. How’s your KINGDOM living going?

2) Seek His Righteousness:

Many (most) people already think they are “Good Enough For Heaven” i.e. ‘Righteous’). But the Bible clearly teaches there are “NONE righteous, no not one.” Romans 3:10.

Psalm 53:2-3 (KJV)
2  God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.
3  Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

We do good things, but the GOOD the Bible is talking about here is “Seeking AFTER God” i.e. Putting His Kingdom agenda first. He looks down from Heaven and sees that there is “NONE” who do that. There are none who seek Him the way He wants to be sought.

So we NEED God’s Righteousness more than anything else in our lives, because we don’t have a righteousness of our own. It’s HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS we need. Yes we do good things for other people, sometimes we do magnificent acts of great kindness and self-sacrifice, but God’s idea of goodness and righteousness is to seek after Him. Apart from God every act of kindness is tinged with the flesh, i.e. there are fleshly reasons for acting in the ways that we do: To look good in the eyes of others, to be well thought about in society, but what really matters in Eternity is not what others think about us, but what God thinks. If we’re seeking a kind of self-righteousness, thinking that our good deeds will outweigh our bad ones, then we need to think again. The GREATEST SIN is living life without putting God first… i.e. Commandments 1 and 2. If we live without God or seeking after Him, we’re guilty of making ourselves into our own god, which is idolatry.

Imagine how God must feel when those He created and gave the gift of life worship everything else apart from Him?

The Gift Of A TV Set:

To live the life that He has given to us without ever thinking about the ONE who gave us life, that’s the greatest sin imaginable.

It’s like the loving father who bought a TV for his kids. Before he got the TV, they’d come running up to him for kisses and cuddles when he got home from work. Overjoyed just to see their daddy home. After he got the TV, he was hurt when they sat in front of it and paid him no attention at all when he got home. Even if he shouted out to them, they’d just sit there glued to the TV set. He missed the cuddles and kisses of his children. So he walked right in front of the TV and turned it off. The kids moaned and groaned, but he said, “I’m so upset that you love that TV I gave you more than me now”… My friends, have you ever thought how God feels when we love life more than the one who gave us life? When we love this beautiful Creation more than the Creator? When we’re so enamoured with the things in this world, rather than the one who gave us them all to richly enjoy?

To live the life that He has given to us without ever thinking about the ONE who gave us life, that’s the greatest sin imaginable.

A Man After God’s Own Heart:

Remember the Bible called King David, “A man after God’s own heart”… i.e. King David sought the Lord. He looked for God. He wanted God’s priorities to be first in his life. King David did many horrible things in his lifetime, but the Bible accords him “Righteous”, not because of what he did or didn’t do in life, but because he sought the LORD with all his heart, mind, will and strength.

So, do you seek His Righteousness? We become righteous in God’s sight, when we respond to the Gospel invitation to receive Jesus Christ as Lord by faith. When we see that Jesus died in our place upon the Cross for all our sins and wickedness, he died for us. When we see that Jesus rose from the dead three days later and ascended into Heaven. Jesus is calling all people in the world to REPENT and turn away from life without God. To turn in repentance, letting go of our old way of ignoring God and turning to Him in faith to be forgiven, cleansed and renewed.

God wants to GIVE US THE KINGDOM: However, for Him to do so, it was very costly indeed. Jesus gave his life.

All we need to do to receive God’s Kingdom and life is turn in repentance and faith and receive Him as our KING: Then we’ll want to live our lives seeking first the Kingdom of God and we’ll want to live a holy and righteous life with Him.

When we seek first His Kingdom and when we seek first His Righteousness, then He, our Heavenly Father, will give us His Kingdom, He will give us what we NEED in life and we needn’t worry about how long we’re going to live, because ETERNITY is in our hearts, we’re going to LIVE FOREVER WITH HIM. Your needs will be met by God once you seek His Kingdom and His righteousness in all things.

Being ‘good’ in our own eyes, is good and right, but when it comes down to it, God will be looking to see if we’ve been good from His perspective. It’s a matter of righteousness not religiousness. He won’t look to see if you’ve been attending church, reading your Bible, doing good to others and praying. His priority is righteousness, are you good enough for Him? The honest answer He’ll be looking for is “NO!” I’m not fit for the Kingdom of Heaven, because I’ve sinned and broken Your Commandments. However, Father in Heaven, I’ve put my faith and trust in Jesus, Your Son, and I know that His death upon the Cross was for my sins. I’ve asked for His forgiveness and turned in repentance and faith, I’ve received Him as my King. I know that I’m a member of His Kingdom Family.”

He’ll say, “Welcome, I’m PLEASED to give you the Kingdom”…

Delightful Marriage and Sex

Sex outside marriage is called fornication

Good morning, it was a delight last night to prepare Sola (pronounced Shola) and Tosin for their forthcoming Wedding Blessing; they are getting married in California, but wanted their wedding to be blessed and to receive the prayer of fellow followers of the Lord Jesus Christ first. (Although my voice cracked a few times, between we managed to get through the vows and promises).

Marriage in God’s eyes, is between a man and a woman for the duration of their life on earth.

Genesis 2:24-25 (NKJV)
24  Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
25  And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

That is a huge commitment and undertaking, but that’s how the LORD views Marriage.

Marriege in God’s eyes, is the only place to be having sex.
God calls sex outside of marriage; fornication.

To Fornicate means: to have sex without being married.
We’ve invented a lot of common, vulgar words that mean the same thing;

  • Bang (vulgar)
  • be intimate,
  • bed,
  • bonk (British, vulgar),
  • do it,
  • get it on,
  • get laid,
  • have a go at it,
  • have intercourse,
  • have it away (vulgar)
  • have it off (vulgar)
  • hump (vulgar)
  • know (archaic)
  • lay,
  • lie with (archaic)
  • love,
  • make love,
  • make out,
  • making whoopee,
  • roger (Brit, vulgar),
  • roll in the hay (vulgar)
  • screw (vulgar)
  • shag (British, vulgar)
  • sleep together,
  • sleep with,

There are probably many, many more words we’ve used in this world (I’ve omitted the obvious and most offensive ones), but they ALL mean the same thing when they are practised outside of Marriage: Fornicate.

Did you know that God warns us in the Bible, when we have sex outside of marriage then we become FORNICATORS?

Did you know that no FORNICATOR can enter into God’s Kingdom (Heaven).

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NKJV) “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10  nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”

How many times do we need to fornicate to become or to be known from God’s perspective as a FORNICATOR? Just once! It’s the same as murder, you only need to murder once to become a murderer for life.

Why does God forbid sexual activity outside of marriage?

Is it because God wants to ruin our fun and enjoyment in life? No my friends, it is because He knows what problems it will cause for us, for society and for the world that He made.

My heart bleeds for all the children in the world who’s mums and dads have split-up and gotten divorced, some because they just can’t get along together, others because of an unfaithful partner. Though there are sometime good reasons for getting a divorce, so many more marriages could be saved if we had a right perspective on SEX outside of marriage.

Because He LOVES us and wants what’s best for us.

God has a right to Command us not to fornicate too; why? because He made the Universe.

So the next time you hear a friend whispering they hope to “get laid this weekend”, share with them something of God’s Holy Standard and requirement: He said, “Don’t fornicate, don’t have sex outside of marriage, save yourself for your husband or wife”. Who knows, you just might save your friends from ruin. Faith comes by Hearing the WORD of God.

Fellow Christians, we need to STOP believing the World’s lies (world system under Satan’s rule), He tells us, “Do what makes you feel good and damn the consequences”. Well, if we do, it’s not the consequences that will be damned, but us.

Marriage is a gift from God, it is a delight to be with someone we love for the rest of our lives. Sex is also great when we’re married in God’s eyes: refrain from sexual activity outside of marriage. Decide in your heart today that you will be pure for God. (BPFG).

Seek First The Kingdom Of God: Don’t Worry!

{Isa 24:18 NLT} “Those who flee in terror will fall into a trap, and those who escape the trap will be caught in a snare. Destruction falls like rain from the heavens; the foundations of the earth shake.” But DON’T WORRY <3

My wife Julie and I were watching the BBC News coverage of the Woolworth’s fire in Manchester 1979, many years ago now. It was a terrible tragedy. We also read in the Newspapers over the following days horrific accounts and miraculous escapes. One reported afterwards about a man who had escaped the fire ran out into the street and got knocked over by a double-decker bus and was killed instantly. Imagine that? Escaping the FIRE only to be KILLED by a Bus. (I can’t find the story on the internet now, if anyone can, please let me know).

He had escaped the fire only to be killed by a bus:

When the LORD decides it’s time for you to go, nothing will stop it.

DON’T WORRY: God is pleased to give you the Kingdom.

When Tragedy Strikes: Don’t Worry! Trust the LORD.

None of us can ADD a single hour to our life by worrying: So trust in the Lord and LIVE worry free. When He’s got your place ready for you, then He’ll come a take you Home for all Eternity. There have been many tragedies we’ve experienced in our short lives and some of them took us ages to get over, but thankfully the LORD has been so good to us in so many other ways, and even through those horrible times, He’s revealed His awesome presence and comfort. I’m going to keep trusting Jesus.

Jesus is Calling: But Father God Draws You to HIM.

Jesus is Calling: But Father God is the ONE who DRAWS you to Faith, Trust and Repentance in Jesus.

We are drawn by Father God to faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, but it is the Spirit that gives us the New Life.

Good morning my friends, I’ve been feeling really sad the last few days since I discovered that Angie (Andrea Driscoll) has died. I performed her wedding to David who died a few months after the wedding. Andrea was devastated by his death, but it had been expected for many months. Since David’s death Angie tried hard to live life to the full, she went on two trips (pilgrimages in Spain) walking over 300 miles each time. After all her hardships and experiences it was such a shock to hear that upon her return to London, she was found dead in her flat after a fall. Angie had a wonderful heart and was a great character. Everybody knew Angie’s problems, but she also had a real soft spot for the Lord Jesus. He alone knows if Angie was born of His Spirit. She was a breath of fresh air and also a bit of a storm too 🙂 We will definitely miss Angie in West Norwood. Many times I told Angie of the New Birth: I wonder if it ever got through to her?

The New Birth: After Jesus had finished teaching about Himself being the true bread from Heaven, the Living Bread, the Disciples (followers) found His teaching offensive and hard to take. For Jesus had been saying something that was and still is offensive to every sane person in the world: He said, “Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood”. Upon hearing that weird claim and message, it was so shocking, that even though people knew Jesus had been performing the most amazing miracles, most of them now left Him and returned to their homes. Apart from the 12 Disciples, but even one of them was a ‘false’ convert and Jesus knew it. He went onto say that the NEW LIFE comes as we’re drawn to Jesus by the Father and given the new life by the Spirit.

John 6:60-69
60 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”
61  Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you?
62  What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before!
63  The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.
64  Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him.
65  He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no-one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him.”
66  From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
67  “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.
68  Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
69  We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”

  So when you come to faith, don’t think that you’ve come by your own seeking or questing for the TRUTH, we come ONLY because the Father Himself draws us (leads us and guides us) to faith and trust in Jesus Christ.

Where did Jesus teach this before?

It was just before the Disciples Deserted Him:

John 6:44-48
44  “No-one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.
45  It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.
46  No-one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father.
47  I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.
48  I am the bread of life.

John also wanted us to be certain of this teaching: so he, at the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, said at the beginning of His Gospel account:

John 1:4 “In him (Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of men.”
John 1:12-13 “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—
13  children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”
John 3:5-7 “Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no-one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6  Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7  You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.'”

Unless we’ve been; BORN AGAIN by God’s HOLY SPIRIT and have received SPIRITUAL BIRTH we (no one) can enter into God’s Kingdom. It’s ONLY through being born of God’s Spirit that we can enter into Heaven. There’s no other way in.

How do we get this New Birth?

Jesus said it, “The Father draws us” He, God, gets us to the point of being able to see our need of Jesus. Once we Believe in Jesus, Repent of our sins and receive the Lord Jesus by faith, then through His Grace and Mercy God forgives us, cleanses us and the Holy Spirit comes into our being and gives us the New Spritual Life that we need to enable us to live for all eternity and enter into God’s Kingdom.

That is why Jesus said, “The Flesh counts for nothing, the Spirit gives spiritual life“…

If ever there was a TRINITARIAN MESSAGE: then it’s in the Gospel of John: Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all involved when a person comes to New Life through trusting in Jesus Christ’s death upon the Cross for their sins (Believing in, relying upon and cleaving to Jesus).

The Father Draws us to Jesus Christ: To ‘believe’ in His NAME: (The Messiah, the WORD of God, the Living Bread, the Light of the world, the Good Shepherd, the Gate for the sheep, the Way, the Truth, the Life, the Only Way to Heaven, the Heavenly Sacrifice, the Resurrected Lord, the Ascended Lord, the Saviour, the King of kings, the LORD of Lords,  the Lamb of God, the Servant King, the Giver of the Spirit, the Lion of Judah, the Bright Morning Star, the Golden One, the Alpha and the Omega {the first and last})

After we’ve come to TRUST completely and alone in Jesus (Jesus means; Deliverer or God Saves) The Christ (Christ means: Expected One or Messiah) for forgiveness, deliverance from sin and salvation from God’s wrath against sin, then the Holy Spirit will come into our being and give us the New Birth, the New Life, the GIFT of Eternal Life.

PRAISE GOD!

Make certain that you’ve come to believe and trust in Jesus Christ because He also said,

John 7:37-39
37  On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38  Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”
39  By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

Believe in HIM as the Scriptures have said: Not as man has said, but God’s Word, the Scriptures.

  • Only then will you be born again of God’s Holy Spirit.
  • Only then will you be able to live the Christian life,
  • Only then will you have assurance and hope of Heaven,
  • Only then will you be able to call God “Abba, Father”
  • Amen!

Praise the Lord!

It’s been my joy and my privilege to have known Angie, to share Jesus with her many times, but I’ve also got that same passion and desire to share Him with as many people as I can. Everyone needs to hear about Jesus Christ, because faith comes by hearing and also because everyone needs to be born again of God’s Holy Spirit. Let’s get busy leading people to Him. Be filled afresh with His Holy Spirit and ask for Him to lead you to those who are dying of Spiritual hunger today.  At a funeral on Friday I said, “BIBLE: Means: Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth… Let’s believe in Jesus as the BIBLE has said. Amen!

NOTE: We can only know of our NEED for Deliverance and Forgiveness when we understand (are brought by God the Father and the Holy Spirit) to the point of knowing how we’ve offended God. We have all broken God’s Commandments: (Sin is the transgression of God’s Law: Commandments). God writes His Law upon the heart of every man. He gives every man a Conscience so that when we do wrong, we know it and are therefore guilty of failing to live God’s way, instead we choose to live our own way. We do this countless times in our life and when we make a practice of it, our conscience gets quieter until we can barely hear it any-longer. However, we can have our Conscience re-awakened by listening to God’s Commandments and Hearing the Word of the Lord. The Bible tells us that faith (which is a gift from God) comes by Hearing His Word.

Faith: When exercised or used, enables us by God’s Grace to be able to TRUST in the Lord Jesus Christ and His giving of His life upon the Cross for our own sins.

Faith: Enables us to rightly receive the Lord Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. When Jesus is your Lord, He will enable you to live a life of Holiness in the Power of the Holy Spirit.

Faith: Enables us to Know that we are Born of God’s Holy Spirit. We don’t rely upon our feelings, but we receive enough FAITH to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that we’ve been born of His Spirit and that God is our Heavenly Father.

Faith: Enables us to have a sure and certain HOPE of Eternal Life (the fear and sting of death is removed).

Jesus Begins Preaching The Good News.

Good morning my friends, today we’re back in the Gospel of Mark: We’re preaching through the whole of Mark’s Gospel. We’re in Chapter 1:9-15 (Jesus begins His public preaching ministry).

Mark 1:9-15 (NIV)
9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised by John in the Jordan. (Notice: no detail about conversation with John as in Matthew).
10  As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.
11  And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
12  At once the Spirit sent him out into the desert,
13  and he was in the desert for forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.
14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God.
15  “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!”

1) GOD SPEAKS TO JESUS.

Before anything AMAZING or Miraculous happens in the Bible, normally God speaks first.

Genesis: Before there was anything, God spoke it into existence.

Before Adam and Eve: God had spoken the plants and animals and all living things into existence.

Before the Fall: God Spoke one word of prohibition: “Don’t touch, don’t eat”

Before Moses went back to Egypt: God spoke to Him from the Burning Bush.

Before Samuel was a Prophet: God spoke to Him.

Before King David was confronted about his adultery and murder, God spoke to the prophet Nathan.

Before Jesus began His Ministry: God spoke to Him and said, ”

Mark 1:11 “And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

My friends, God still speaks today:

He’ll speak to you, through His Word, through dreams, visions and words of knowledge. He’ll speak to you through other people and through circumstances that you are going through.

Recently: One of the Evangelism Team said, “I think the Lord is telling us to go to Brixton”… We prayed about it and agreed to go. However, God confirmed it in different ways: I knew I was running out of tracts and coins, but I’d not ordered any on time. So I prayed and asked the Lord: Give us some things to take: Well as I was getting my bag ready to go, guess what, I found two bags of 10 Commandment Coins: Over a hundred: more than enough for one nigh, and lots of other tracts as well.

God leads, God guides and God Speaks my friends.

What was it God said? Who did He say it to?

Mark records that it was to Jesus God was speaking.

Matthew records that John heard God speaking to Jesus.

“You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

When you know that you are hearing God’s Voice: it give you confidence, comfort, commitment, determination, direction and joy. Jesus went into the wilderness, directed by the HOLY SPIRIT. Today, God calls you to Jesus, He gives you the same HOLY SPIRIT and He’ll guide you into your Ministry. Whatever He determines that is. For it is HIM who gives you gifts. He let’s you KNOW just how much He loves you. How happy He is when we are obedient to His call. He lets us KNOW we are HIS Children.

2) SATAN TEMPTS JESUS:

Just after God spoke, He guides Jesus by His Spirit.

He guides Him into the wilderness to undergo some testing, which He allows the Devil, Satan to tempt Jesus.

Mark is unlike the other Evangelists: He doesn’t go into any detail:

For instance: Mark leaves out the fact that Jesus fasted 40 days, there’s no detail about how Satan tempted Him, or what Jesus did in response to Satan’s tempting. Mark only records the fact of Satan’s tempting Jesus.

When we’re reading Mark’s Gospel: If you’ve read the other Gospels, then you sub-consciously fill in the blanks, you’ve got a mental picture from all the other information the Bible provides about what that TEMPTING meant.

So let’s imagine for a moment; that we’ve never read any of the other Gospels: Why did Mark leave it out. You see the New Testament didn’t come together as one book for a long time after this Gospel was written. His focus was not on the detail, but on the acts that Jesus performed, the things that Jesus did. You’ll notice that again and again in Mark’s Gospel of Jesus. Why? It’s because Mark knew the things that Jesus did, speak loudest about WHO JESUS IS. When we know that, we’ll put our complete trust in Jesus.

He doesn’t go into the detail of things; like Matthew and Luke. (My wife and most women LOVE detail: LOL).

He doesn’t tell us about conversations; like John does.

He merely records the facts of what Jesus did. He paints with powerful picture words: i.e. (Heaven being torn open: Matthew tells us heaven opened and a dove came down, Mark tells us it was TORN OPEN. There’s a FORCE behind the Gentle Dove. We fill in the blanks with our minds.

Application: Satan Tempts Today: When you’ve heard God speaking, Satan will then, quite often come an hassle you too.

It didn’t take long for Satan to come and try and convince Jesus to go his way instead of God’s.

He tried to cause Jesus to doubt God’s Word / God’s Voice. He’ll do the same with you too.

Just after a friend of mine was converted: He had an awesome experience of the Holy Spirit.

A few weeks later, at the Bible study, He was doubting God’s Word: He said, “I can’t believe all these miracles”, but I said, “Pray about it, leave it on the back-burner and just concentrate on what Jesus taught and what the Bible teaches for a while”…

It didn’t take long for my friend to overcome his doubts, the next week he came back, Jesus DOES PERFORM MIRACLES.

It took the miracle of immediate answered prayer to convince him. He believed the Bible 100% after that.

When you’ve heard God speaking, Satan will try and steal it away from you.

  • He’ll try and make you doubt your calling.
  • He’ll try and take you away from God.
  • He’ll do his best to convince you “Life is better without Jesus, God, Church, Fellowship, Bible study, Prayer, Praise, etc etc etc…”
  • All that God calls us to do: He’ll try and convince you to STOP>
  • Why? Because Satan Knows there’s POWER in all the things that God has called us to do. He KNOWS: Once you START obeying God, you’re FAITH will get stronger and it’ll be harder for him to pull you away. He’ll never stop trying though. It’s a Constant Battle for the Saints against our arch-enemy Satan.

On Friday, we met a woman who’d been convinced she didn’t need ‘Church’: However, over time, her faith had dwindled, she’d fallen into sin and an old stammer she had came back to haunt her.

We encouraged her: To know God’s Word concerning gathering together regularly to worship: To get back into fellowship, bible study with others and prayer and praise with brothers and sisters.

Satan had fooled her into thinking, “I don’t need ‘Church'” Oh yes she does my friends. And WE ALL NEED IT TOO.

 

3) Finally, JESUS PREACHES: (The Good News of God).

God Spoke, The Devil Tempted and Jesus Preached.

Jesus had OVERCOME Satan’s attempts to divert Him, to make him walk away from God’s Plan.

Jesus begins to proclaim the Good News.

Notice what Mark tells us:

14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. (Notice again: No detail about why John was put into prison, or how Jesus went about preaching the good news, just the fact that He did).

15  “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!”

What was Jesus “Good News”: Gospel:

The TIME has come, The Kingdom of God is Near:

a) The Time Has Come:

Jew were EXPECTING THE MESSIAH. Jesus is declaring, boldly, loudly and clearly: I’m The Expected One. (The one that John the Baptist was telling you about, telling you to get ready for, I’m here)….

b) Repent and Believe the Good News:

Repentance and Belief: This is a KEY Doctrine that will NEVER be taken away until Jesus returns.

For any person to be SAVED: There must be both: Repentance and Belief.

JESUS GOSPEL: TO THE JEWS.

The Gospel Jesus preached was before any of the events of the Crucifixion or Resurrection and Ascension: These are the KEY elements in any Proclamation of the Gospel today.

But when Jesus was on earth, He was preaching mainly to Jews: His Gospel, Good News, was slightly different.

You see the Jews were God’s Chosen People: They were EXPECTING God to speak, to send messengers, who would usher in God’s Kingdom rule. Jesus is declaring to those who knew this: “NOW IS THE TIME: God’s Kingdom is close at hand, it’s near, it’s right here with you NOW”…. So, Repent (Get back to God, get right with God, turn away from sin and unbelief). Believe.

The Gospel For Us:

We know that Jesus died.

We know that Jesus is alive.

So the Gospel Message is: Believe in what Jesus has done on the Cross, Repent from your sins and Receive Him as your Lord and Saviour.

However, before people who are not like Jews can accept that message, we need to plough up the soil of the heart to get it ready for the seed of the Good News to be planted. We need to help people see their NEED of the SAVIOUR before they’ll be ready to receive Him rightly.

Imagine: A farmer going out to sow his seed in an un-ploughed field? He just would not do it. No farmer in his right mind would sprinkle seed on un-prepared ground. Why? Because He knows; the Birds will steal it away. The seed will be ruined.

It’s like casting your pearls before swine. So it is with giving the Good News before they’re ready to receive it.

The Apostles knew it and proclaimed it, the Preachers of Old knew it, we’re re-learning it’s value again today: With God’s help, we need to bring conviction of sin, the consequences of sin, the judgement to come, eternal destiny of all men without Jesus, and then they’ll be ready; Once they know their NEED of Jesus.

Today: People’s hearts need to be prepared, like a farmer’s field, before they hear and receive the Good News or it will be a waste of time, or a perverted Gospel we’ll be preaching.

BUT: What do we see today? People are being given the Good News, before they’re ready to receive it.

The Church tells the world: God LOVES you and Has a plan for your life: My friends, they’ve got their own plans, they love their lives of sin, they don’t want anyone telling them what to do and how to live. They’re happy in their sin.

So Now people are enticed into ‘church’ with words like: come to Jesus and you’ll be happy, you’ll get peace, joy and lasting fulfilment. So people come to that Jesus. They love that message, it doesn’t talk about: Sin, true Repentance, Judgement or Hell. No wonder those churches are full to overflowing. We NEED a ‘real’ Old Time REVIVAL TODAY.

Once a sick patient knows his need of a cure: He’ll be ready and eager to receive it.

Once a sinner knows his need of forgiveness, cleansing from sin and how to get it, he’ll be ready for the cure: The Gospel, Good News of Jesus Christ. How God loved him enough to send His One and Only Son into the world to die upon the Cross for the sins of every sinner. (John 3:16)… Also he’ll be ready for the warning (John 3:18-21).

Before we can give them either: The Good News or The Warning:

We must be gentle, humble and instruct them about their NEED of a Saviour, by showing them HOW they have offended God. We also have an inward ally who’ll help us: Their Conscience (God’s LAW written upon their hearts).

We have a Heavenly Power who’ll be drawing them: The Holy Spirit, who’ll lead them to a Conviction of Sin. However, our part is to EXPLAIN and PREPARE their Hearts for the Good News of the Gospel.  We need to be like the farmer, getting hearts ready for Good Seed of God’s Gospel Message planted perfectly into their prepared hearts.

My friends, it’s so wonderful when you observe people’s faces as they see their need of Jesus. You can physically see as their eyes are opened and they understand the Gospel, it makes sense to them. Not everyone is ready at that instant to Believe and Repent, but their hearts have been prepared, the ground has been ploughed and the seed sown. God’s WORD: Faith Comes by Hearing. God will do His Work.

Conclusion:

God Speaks, Satan Tempts and Jesus Preached.

God calls you today, fills you with His Spirit, to guide you.

Satan still tempts you today,

and Jesus has commanded you to PREACH: Good News, but prepare hearts for the Gospel first.

Go into ALL THE WORLD… The emphasis of Jesus is for everyone of us to “GO”… Let the world know the Good News of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

15  He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.
16  Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
17  And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
18  they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
19  After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.

20  Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

Let us PRAY: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, thank you so much for Mark’s Gospel message. We can see that just like You, we can Hear our Father speaking today. We know the reality of Satan and how he tries to tempt us away from You and Your will for our lives. We believe that You are calling us all to share the Good News. Please give us the will to be obedient, the desire to share and the wisdom to know when we’re being tempted. Keep us from all evil, give us daily bread, Your Kingdom Come. Amen.

A NEW WAY To Talk to God.

Daily Spirit & Word, 535: A New Way To Talk To God.

Good morning my friends, I don’t know about you, but as a School Governor, it fills me with dread whenever the Government brings out a new ‘brilliant’ initiative that will transform the education and outcomes of the school. Oh yes! I’ve heard it all before, time and time again, but most often they just lead to lots of work for teachers and senior staff in the school environment. So much time is given over to the new initiative that teaching takes a sad second place and the children are the ones who suffer the most, because you’ll get great teachers who’ve just had enough of government interference in stuff they know so little about and they’ll take redundancy or early retirement. It’s sad, because they’ve still got a lot to offer and their heart for the children’s learning is obvious.

When they come up with the new initiative, it’s accompanied with impenetrable instructions and ill-thought-through implementation procedures. However, through the Lord Jesus Christ he made the NEW WAY to talk and relate with God crystal clear and easy to follow.

HOW NOT TO PRAY:

Before Jesus taught His followers how to pray, He first told them how NOT to do it. This is really important, because we don’t want to make those stupid mistake do we 🙂

Matthew 6:5-8
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
6  But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
7  And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
8  Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

What Jesus saying about the above?

  • Don’t be a show off or Shallow Prayer: Be sincere.
  • Your Father will reward you when you go to Him.
  • Don’t keep babbling like the pagans. It’s NOT about the quantity of our words, but about the quality, sincerity. Remember that God ALWAYS looks at the HEART. He knows when we’re being genuine and sincere. He knows what we need. It’s recognising that God is our FATHER and He knows what we need even before we begin to talk with Him, but He still wants us to talk to Him about it. However, you don’t need to go into all the details, He knows that already, just be straght-forward and let Him know what you need.

The NEW WAY:

We call the New Way of talking with God: The Lord’s Prayer. 

You’ll be asking, “What’s ‘new’ about that?” Well, the Lord’s Prayer was such a radically different approach to communicating and meeting with God, that we need to look at it afresh in every generation.

Matthew 6:9-15 9  “This, then, is how you should pray: ” ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
10  your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11  Give us today our daily bread.
12  Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ (for Thine is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory. For ever and ever, Amen!).
14  For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15  But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

(Also Luke 11:1-4)

NOTE: Jesus didn’t just tell them what to pray about, but He also gave us the reasons why we should do it that way, i.e. He explained why we needed to forgive others.

It’s NEW:

Before Jesus introduced us to the New Way:

In ancient times people related with God through Priests, they couldn’t do it for themselves. They had to make a journey to where the Priests operated and get them to interceed for them. However, so impressed with the way that Jesus lived, talked and did things every day, the first followers asked Jesus to teach them how to pray like He did. They said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray”. Jesus told His followers that they’ll be ‘RELATING’ to God personally, themselves, individually: He said, call God; “OUR FATHER”. God is GOD ALMIGHTY, but He becomes your Father the moment you are born of the Holy Spirit by trusting Jesus Christ for your Salvation. From that moment on you are in an eternal family relationship with God the Father, Jesus the Son (who becomes your eternal Lord and brother), and the Holy Spirit. What a wonderful family to belong to, what a privilege, what a JOY.

It’s EASY:

Do you remember yesterday when I quoted Jesus “Come to me” statement? He said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light”. He’s soooo right my friends, even the way that we pray to our Father is really easy. However, it’s also really deep. Because in just 70 words we can range from God’s Eternal Greatness right down to our most basic needs in life, our daily bread.

It’s PERSONAL:

Instead of calling out to a far away, distant and unknowable God, Jesus introduced us to a New Way of relating to God: As FATHER. He said, “When you pray”. Notice Jesus expected us to talk to God. “Say, ‘Our Father'”…. WOWzer! Jesus was the Only Son of God, but He knew that after He died, we’d be brought into a relationship with God through our faith and trust in Himself, that we’d become Children of God. (John 1:12).

What an awesome privileged position Christians are in. It’s a bit like Prince George relating to his father Prince William. When we approach Prince William, as his subjects, we’ll bow and call him, “Your Highness”. Why? Because in society he’s higher than everyone else. However, little Prince George can run right up to him and call him “Daddy”. We can do that too my friends. So the new way is intimate and personal.

It’s POWERFUL:

Your Father in Heaven: He rules. He’s the Boss of the Cosmos (I love that saying). He can do ANYTHING (apart from the things that go against His nature or revealed will).

Remember God is NOT limited by the laws of physics. Jesus could walk on water, raise the dead, turn water into wine, make a few loaves of bread feed thousands of people.

Your Father in Heaven wants you to know that even before you ask Him, He’s able to meet ALL your needs.

His power extends into every sphere; both physical and spiritual. He’s not in an equal fight against the forces of evil. One day God will make the Devil and all his host of demons pay, but even now God’s in total control and can deliver us from ALL evil.

It’s ALL Encompassing:

The Lord’s Prayer touches every aspect of our lives, it’s not a prayer that’s meant to be said by rote, but rather as a Springboard into a deeper prayer life with our Father in Heaven.

Remember that Father God also took up residence in your life, so Heaven is definitely in your heart too. (John 17).

When we say; Matthew 6:13 13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

We are reminding ourselves that our relationship with God is ETERNAL, It’s Easy, It’s Personal, Powerful, All encompassing and we NEED Him every day.

The Lord’s Prayer: Is a powerful new way of communicating with God, He’s your Father in Heaven, if you’ve trusted Jesus as your Saviour.

It’s my hope and prayer that today you’ll feel encouraged to come afresh into the presence of God your Father and talk with Him in the NEW WAY and see His POWER at work in your life. Amen!

Daily Spirit & Word, 479: There’s MORE, so much MORE.

God’s Progressive Revelations For Followers of Jesus.

Good morning my friends. WOWzer! What an awesome Good Friday! The Walk of Witness was fantastic, we had a good number more than last year and a lovely time of worship, prayer, proclamation and witness, then some fellowship afterwards. God’s truly GOOD and it was a Great Good Friday. Today, we’re looking at how God wants to use us and to give us much more than we can ever imagine.

1 Corinthians 2:1-10
1  When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.
2  For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
3  I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling.
4  My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power,
5  so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.
6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
7  No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.
8  None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9  However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”—
10  but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.

Romans 8:11 “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.”

This passage speaks to me to loudly of the Holy Trinity: The Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead: Who’s that talking about, but the Father (As you’ll see when you read this verse in context). So the Father, who raised Jesus from the dead by the Spirit, will also give LIFE to your mortal bodies (A mortal body is a dead body), how does He, the Father give us this life? “by or through His Spirit who lives in you”.

Ephesians 3:20 (NIV) “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…”

I’ve heard Christians say (foolishly), “Jesus, repentance, faith and worship, I can cope with, but I don’t want the ‘Spirit’ thing, it’s way too spooky”. People are afraid of what the ‘Spirit’ might make them do. They’ve seen the excesses or extremes and they’ve decided in their hearts, “That’s not for me”. They come to that conclusion through fear of what might be, but they’re simply refusing the very things that Father God has provided that are necessary for the NORMAL Spiritual life. For the man or the woman without the Spirit doesn’t belong to God. That’s why I said, “Foolishly”, because they don’t have they Spirit, they are unaware of their folly or foolishness. The things of the Spirit are foolishness to them.

There’s More, so Much MORE that you can ever imagine with God.

So many people, who think they are Christian by what they do, have been won to their supposed faith by mere human wisdom, argument or persuasion, but those who’re born of the Spirit have not come intellectually alone, they’ve perhaps been persuaded by the Gospel, but they’ve not simply rested on intellectual agreement, but have moved from that mental assent to faith: For God’s Spirit who draws us to faith and trust in Christ doesn’t want us to simply agree with the gospel, He also wants us to act upon what we’ve become convinced of; that act leads to conversion, to the filling with God’s Spirit, to new life in the Spirit and a transformational experience takes place. New life is not just an intellectual concept, but something to be lived.

1 Cor 2:9 “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him”

My friends, you or I can’t contain God within a box. No matter what revelation you get from God, no matter how ‘Spiritual’ you think you are, there is ALWAYS, ALWAYS more, so much more than we could ever imagine.

That was the experience of the Ancient Saints like; Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses and Joshua: God took them from one point of faith and experience to another, to new levels of revelation and understanding of who God was and what life can be like when we trust Him.

THE STAGES OF REVELATION FOR ABRAHAM.

Just consider the stages of revelation for Abraham for an example;

A) At Haran Abraham had “I WILL SHOW YOU”

He was Taken With The Promise: “I Will Show You”.

He was taken from Haran by God with this promise; Genesis 12:1-3 (NIV) The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. 2  “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3  I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

B) In Canaan Abraham had this promise from God: “THIS IS THE LAND”.

Genesis 12:7 “The LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.”

C) At Bethel Abraham had; “THE LAND THAT YOU SEE”.

At Bethel Abraham Saw it:

Genesis 13:14-17 (NIV) The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west. 15  All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring for ever. 16  I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. 17  Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.”

Can you see the progressive nature of the revelations of God’s Promises? God’s Provisions? God’s Guidances? God’s Blessings? They’re forever growing, expanding and extending for Abraham. What did Abraham do to earn these promises and rewards? Nothing, but he Believed God and Acted upon what he believed.

  • Abraham wasn’t just intellectually convinced that God could do what He promised.
  • He didn’t just believe it with his mind.
  • He acted upon God’s promises and trusted God, he followed God’s directions.
Progressive Revelations
More, so much more.

It’s FAITH expressed in ACTION. or as some have said, “FAITH & DEEDS” Jesus said, “FAITH is obedience to His commands”.

God said of Abraham in the;

 Old Testament: Genesis 15:6 “Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” Notice also at the end of chapter 15 how the Lord’s promise of the Land had expanded much further than Abraham’s eyes could ever see physidally. His promises and revelations grew even greater than Abraham could ever imagine. Just because he believed the LORD.

 New Testament: Romans 4:3, 22 “Abraham believed God” WOWzer!

Abraham took God at His word and trusted in God’s promises. Abraham had been given the gift of faith that enabled him to trust God and take God at his WORD. Not mere intellectual agreement, but being convinced of it he acted upon what he believed. James 2:22-23 (NIV) “You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23  And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.

Paul didn’t just go and preach the Gospel, as so many Christian do. No he came and preached it, but he also demonstrated it with power and miracles and wonders. Signs and wonders will accompany your proclamation my friends, but we need to be obedient and do what Paul did, what the Apostles and early Christians did, by being obedient to Jesus Commands to Go; God’s Spirit and blessing, touching, delivering and healing, bringing God’s Kingdom into the lives of others in a demonstration of God’s POWER.

My friends, the LIFE of the Spirit that Jesus has called His followers to is the same. It’s life in the Spirit, believing the promises of God, taking God at His Word and being obedient to His commands. Jesus said, “if you love me you’ll obey my commands.” We know that we love Jesus if we’re living in obedience to His commands. They won’t be too burdensome, they’ll be easy in the Spirit. When we’re weak or failing any of Jesus commands, then we know what to do, for we need more of God’s Spirit to enable us to live. We need to be full of God’s Spirit for every single day. We’ll never get to the point in our Spiritual walk that we don’t need God’s Spirit. We won’t want to live without the Spirit once we’ve begun.

Abraham was promised, those you bless will be blessed. We’ve been given similar promises by Jesus.

Abraham was promised, those who bless you will be blessed by the LORD. When people give you even a cup of water just because you are a follower of Jesus, they’re going to be blessed too.

My friends, life in the Spirit is just like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Elijah, Peter, James, John, Stephen and Paul, and countless thousands of others, but you’ll also get progressive revelations yourself from God’s Spirit. You’ll experience more than you can ever imagine or conceive.

As soon as you think you’ve arrived, guess what? God’s got far more than you’ll ever imagine.

Ephesians 3:20 (NIV) “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…” He’s in you my friends, when you trusted Jesus, He’s going to use you in Kingdom Service today.

Resurrection Sunday is going to be AWESOME tomorrow: Because the SAME Spirit, the Holy Spirit, that raised Jesus from DEATH, is the one who gives us LIFE in our mortal (dead) bodies. Praise the LORD and let us live in the Spirit today.

Kingdom Greatness

Good morning my friends, it’s Wednesday and we’re going to focus today upon being great in God’s Kingdom. I love that old song, “If you want to be great in God’s Kingdom, learn to be the servant of all”

We all want to be significant in the eyes of others and competition for recognition is nothing new, even amongst the followers of Jesus Christ, there were those who, before they were born of the Spirit, didn’t quite grasp the true nature of the Kingdom of God. It’s almost amusing that Jesus confounds the wisdom of this world by turning what it values most upon it’s head and saying this is now much better.

It’s like a fashion expert telling us that white is the new black 🙂 Or red is the new green.

Jesus said, that to be GREAT in God’s Kingdom, you must become the servant of ALL (of everyone).

 Worldly Greatness:

Normally, when you think of great people, you think how they are served by a host of servants; they’ll be driven places by a Chauffeur, they’ll be welcomed into their home by a Butler or House Manager. They’ll have a bath run for them by a personal servant, they’ll even have their back scrubbed by another servant. The cook will prepare meals for them, the gardener will look after flowers and the grounds. Personal assistants will ensure you never need to go into shops again. Wherever you go people bow down before you and sometimes tremble in your presence, because of your majestic greatness.

Now imagine, being with Jesus and recognising His GREATNESS, then asking if you can be one of His special people, his right-hand-man. Well that’s what the mother of two of Jesus Disciple wanted for her sons. It’s obvious they wanted it too as you’ll see from the passage below;

Matthew 20:20-28 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favour of him. 21  “What is it you want?” he asked. She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.” 22  “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?” “We can,” they answered. 23  Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.” 24  When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers. 25  Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26  Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27  and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28  just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Here we see three people seeking greatness in the eyes of others: A mother and her two sons. They wanted to be viewed and thought about as SPECIAL, Important, Selected, Preferred, best-loved, chosen, favoured, favourite, preferable, preferential. Over and above their already privileged calling as Jesus’ Apostles.

 Who were these sons of Zebedee?

This account is repeated almost word for word in Mark’s Gospel, but in his account we’re told expressly who the sons of Zebedee are; James and John. Mark 10:35-45.

What do we know of James and John? They did indeed become great in God’s Kingdom, but they also became two of the most blessed servants the church has ever known. Their greatness didn’t come about by LORDING it over people, but serving the brothers and sisters; James in Jerusalem and John gave us awesome teaching in his Gospel and the 1, 2 and 3 John and the book of Revelation.

John became known as the beloved Disciple, he was the closest friend of Jesus whilst Jesus was on the earth. He took to heart what Jesus said, and this gentle rebuke of the Saviour took hold in his life.

Before James and John, the sons of Zebedee came to Jesus, with their mother as Matthew records, Jesus had already explained that Kingdom Greatness comes from service towards others; Mark 9:33-35 They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?” 34  But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest. 35  Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

So my friends, it’s true in every sphere of life: At work, in the home and in your community. If you want to be GREAT then we must learn to become the SERVANTS of everyone. No matter who they are.

St Paul’s Service in God’s Kingdom:

  • Acts 20:25-31 25 “Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again.
    26 Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men.
    27  For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.
    28  Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.
    29  I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock.
    30  Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.
    31  So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.

You know, without first coming to Jesus Christ and submitting to His Kingship or Lordship, you’ll never be a servant in His Kingdom. I’ve seen people try and they always end up bitter about others, they’ll try and serve in humility, but without Christ in our hearts we’ll become frustrated, tired and bitter towards others who don’t appreciate what we’re doing for them. We’ll get exhaused and begin to moan about others. My friends, when you are serving Christ, you’ll never get tired of His Kingdom Service, because you know deep down you are not doing it for recognition or greatness, you are serving others out of appreciation for all that Christ has done for you. He’ll fill your heart with His love for people and you’ll just serve, no matter what the response is from others, you’ll keep serving, because you are not trying to win their approval or respect or praise, you’re serving a much higher and more noble calling; You are serving God’s Kingdom.

You’ll serve wherever you are:

  • At HOME: You’ll be the best husband, the most loving, patient, kind and gentle man.
  • At HOME: You’ll be a wife who loves to serve and take care of her family, not counting the cost, because you are serving Jesus.
  •  At WORK: You’ll be the best employee the company has ever had. You’ll try your best, you’ll serve your collegaues rather than climb over them. You’ll make certain that your boss never fails. All because you are not serving the company or for reward, but you are serving Jesus Christ.
  •  In the COMMUNITY: Your neighbours will know they can come to you and ask for help. You’ll be there for everyone and you’ll help them whenever you can. You’ll be generous with your time, your talents and your money for your neighbours. All because you are serving the Kingdom and the King of Kings.  
  • In the WORLD: You’ll look for ways to help people, make peace, fight for justice, promote fairness and look after those who cannot look after themselves. You’ll never look down on anyone and you’ll think of others as better than you.

We’ll do all of this willingly and full of joy and praise and peace, because we’ve learned what it means to be the Servant of All: We’ve become more like Jesus Christ and we’re full of the Holy Spirit and love.

My friends, How is your Kingdom Service?

“If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

If you need a heart to serve better today, then can I encourage you to come to the King of Kings, the Lord Jesus Christ and learn from Him, for He is gentle and kind and will show you what it means to serve and not count the cost.
