Living In The Fountain of Life

Christian living in the power of the Holy Spirit

Daily Spirit & Word: 728:

Living In The Power of The Holy Spirit.

A Battle Royal: How to live a submitted life.

“When you do what pleases you, does what you do please God?

Good morning my friends, what a wonderful Alpha Experience evening we had last night. Our theme for the evening was all about The HOLY SPIRIT. We looked at the teaching, filling, empowering, seeking and yearning. We all admitted our NEED of God The Holy Spirit.

However, one of the main points of our discussion was what we’d talked about the previous week: How does God guide us? How does the Holy Spirit let us know His will? How can I live in such a way that I know I’m going to be victorious as a Christian?

We will understand and know His guidance the more we SUBMIT ourselves completely to Christ, but what we discovered afresh last night was, the more you submit yourself to God, the more you begin to realise how just un-submitted we really are. And therefore, how much we need God’s grace, mercy, forgiveness, cleansing, power and presence every single day.

THE WALK OF GENUINE FAITH:

  • The Walk of genuine faith in Jesus really is a battle of WILLS: God’s Will and Our Will.
  • The Walk of genuine faith in Jesus really is a battle of DESIRES: God’s desires and our own sinful desires.
  • The Walk of genuine faith in Jesus really is a battle of WANTS: What God wants and what we want.
  • The Walk of genuine faith in Jesus really is a battle of PLEASURES: What pleases God and what pleases us.

Thankfully our wills, desires, wants and pleasures change as we submit ourselves to Jesus and seek the fullness of Holy Spirit, but then as we go on in the walk of faith, they sneak back into our souls, sometimes, undetected.

Thankfully Holy Spirit reveals our condition: He’s a gentle Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ, but he’ll not leave you, those who’ve received Him as Lord, in a condition of sin for very long. His heart’s desire is that you become more and more like Him: Holy, righteous, good and faithful.

When we follow our heart’s desires, wills, wants and pleasures instead of or in-spite of God’s revealed will, we become like an Adulterer: Unfaithful to the one who’s loved us.

James 4:4-10 (NIV)
4  You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred towards God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. (We become friends of the world when we do worldly things that God hates).
5  Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely?
6  But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
7  Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8  Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
9  Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.
10  Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

When Holy Spirit shows you your condition, He does not do it to make you feel guilty, but to bring you back, to stop you falling, to keep you on track with God’s good plan for your life. However, just like Adam and Eve hid in the garden when they sinned against God, our NATURAL tendency is to hide too, we want to cover it up, pretend it never happened, keep it in the darkness. As God looked for and called for Adam and Eve, he’ll be doing the same with you and me by His Spirit. “Adam, where are you?” … “Eve, come out of hiding”…. Notice what happens when we respond to the pull of the Spirit, when we draw near to God, “He draws near to us”. What grace, what love, what amazing mercy.

Encouragement:

  • Submit yourself to God:
  • Resist the devil (the worldly attractions, temptations and pleasures),
  • Come Near to God: When we draw nearer to God (Nearer my God to Thee)… He comes bounding towards us in Spirit. “He will come near to you”…
  • Wash, Purify, Grieve, Mourn, Cry: i.e. feel what God feels because of your sinful wills, desires, wants and pleasures and mourn about it. Decide in your hearts that you want to be cleansed and set-free again.
  • WHEN: When you submit, resist, draw near, wash, grieve and mourn and cry: i.e. HUMBLE yourself towards God: He WILL LIFT YOU UP.
  • WHAT IF?: What if I’ve failed again? What if I keep falling? My friends, if you feel guilty then you are in a good place, because God’s not giving up on you. It’s when you stop feeling guilty and keep sinning you should really start to worry, because “God resists the proud”. However, if you feel the sorrow of a sinner’s heart, then you will receive from the Lord “MORE GRACE” James 4:6.
  • Remember Psalm 103:12. When you come in true confession and contrition (sorrow for sin), then God takes your sins away from you and FORGETS all about them, as if they never happened.

Psalm 103:11-13 (NIV)
11  For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;
12  as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13  As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;

The Holy Spirit’s Intense Jealousy:

James 4:5 “Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely?”

The Holy Spirit, that God caused to LIVE IN US, “Envies Intensely”: i.e. He’s jealous for God’s Glory and your own goodness in the Christian life. There’s an intense feeling of JOY when we walk in step with the Spirit.

FOUNTAIN OF LIFE:

The Holy Spirit: Becomes in us (Inside Us) a SPRING or FOUNTAIN… i.e. we get filled up with the Holy Spirit from within… It’s not external, but internal filling we need. Some people erroneously, mistakenly, foolishly “Call Down” the Holy Spirit, but how can you call down someone who’s already there? He is in you if you are saved by Jesus. You are full of Holy Spirit, but we leak… All we need is a greater filling, more of His fullness, more LORD!…. “Go on being filled with the Spirit” Ephesians 5:8-18.

Awesome! Because when God lifts you up, you’re going to have one of those MOUNTAIN-TOP EXPERIENCES.

Focus on God’s desires, focus on Jesus, focus on His awesome tender compassion, kindness and love.

  • He give GRACE to the Humble.
  • He RESISTS the Proud.
  • The Spirit’s Presence is like a FOUNTAIN.
  • Go on being filled… i.e. every day.

Amen!

Don.

Worship: Wonderful Grace.

Five Ways To Be Remembered

Daily Spirit & Word

452: Five Ways For Christians To Be Remembered.

Good morning my friends, don’t you just love Friday’s? It marks the end of the working week and the prospect of a day of rest for most. I know there are many who don’t enjoy the luxury of a day off and I even know a few who work seven days a week. However, there are good reasons for taking a day off and having a good rest from your normal labours. The principal one being, we don’t want to drive ourselves into an early grave by being overworked, overstressed.  There are also many good reasons; reconnecting relationships with loved ones and with brothers and sisters in the faith and also taking time out to worship the Lord.
Over the years since becoming a follower of Jesus, I remember with fondness many brothers and sisters who’ve died and gone to be with Him. What is it about them that warms my heart today? Their love for the Lord, their devotion to the things of God and their love and warmth for all people; Christians and non-Christians. When its your turn to leave this earth and go home to glory, you’ll be remembered by your friends and family, but what will they remember you for?
Think about Jesus; because Christians are being transformed daily into the likeness of Christ. What was Jesus remembered for? His complete obedience, even to death upon the cross. His powerful miracles and the fact that He didn’t charge people but healed them freely. His attitude to those on the margins of society, sinners and social rejects, Jesus took time to be with them and was scandalised for it. His ways with people from all walks of life; rich and poor, men and women, old and infant. Most of all we probably remember Jesus for His LOVE, CARE, MESSAGE OF TRUTH, AND DEDICATION TO THE FATHER’S WILL.
Today’s Focus On God’s Word:
Titus 2:11-15 “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.”
And: TRANSFORMATION: 2 Corinthians 3:16-18
“But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
Here are some things every follower of Jesus should strive for and become TOP priorities in our lives.

1) REMEMBERED FOR BEING A CHRISTIAN—1 Tim. 2:4

What a Christian is? Someone who’s Trusted in Jesus death for their sins upon the Cross, who’s believed in Jesus, who’s repented of their sins and forsaken them, who’s been born again of God’s Holy Spirit, who knows Jesus as Lord and Saviour, who’s a committed member of a local fellowship of Saints and is serving the Lord with their gifts and talents and who gives wholeheartedly to the fellowship.
How to become a Christian? Believe in Jesus, Repent of sin and Receive Him as Lord: Then you will be born of the Spirit.
What it means to be a Christian? You’ll love God, love the saints and love those who don’t yet know Jesus as Lord. You’ll be filled with His compassion for others, meeting their needs and serving with your life.

2) REMEMBERED FOR YOUR DEDICATION TO GOD: Rom. 12:1-2

The Foundation of Your Dedication: Love, obedience, praise and devotion for Jesus.
The Character of Your Dedication: voluntary, wholehearted, sacrificial, practical, disciplined.
The Results of Your Dedication: Known to be Blessed by the Lord, loved by the saints and sinners.

3) REMEMBERED FOR YOUR LOVE FOR THE SAINTS:

(See 37 List at bottom of page).

“by your LOVE for one another, people will know you belong to Christ”.
  • Your Friendships:
  • Your Attitude:
  • Your Care:

4) REMEMBERED FOR YOUR LOVE OF BRINGING OTHERS TO JESUS: Psa. 126

  • Your Obedience to the Lord’s Commands: Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; Mark 16:15-20.
  • You’ll Cry For Their Predicament: Luke 16:19-28 (The Rich Man and Lazarus).
  • You’ll be Guided by the Holy Spirit: Acts 16:6-9.
  • Your Zeal to reach out: Acts 2; 1 Cor 9:16 (How horrible it is when I don’t reach-out to others and preach the Gospel).

5) REMEMBERED FOR YOUR HEAVENLY FOCUS: Titus 2:13

“How we wait for the blessed hope…”

  • You KNOW Jesus is Comings Soon:
  • You DESIRE Jesus to either come or be with Him forever.
  • Your FOCUS is upon the Blessings when He Comes.
  • You LIVE your whole life; preapered for His coming or your going Home.
  • You KNOW this earth is NOT your home.

452 Five Ways Christian

There are probably many, many more, but as you are transformed into the Likeness of Jesus daily, you can’t help but become more powerful, prayerful, practical, resourceful, holy and full of love for God, for brothers and sisters in the faith and for those who don’t yet know Jesus Christ as Lord.

How will you be remembered when you leave the earth?
Don’t worry what others think about you, but think of the eternal rewards you are storing up in Heaven as you serve the Lord Jesus today.
Have an awesome weekend my friends, I’m really looking forward to gathering with my brothers and sisters again on Sunday to praise ans worship the Lord Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit. Wherever you are my prayers are with you. Stay blessed and walk closely with Jesus today. Don’t forget to PRAISE Him, Love Him and you’ll be full of His Love for others too.
Don.

A Humbled King’s Message To The World.

Daily Spirit & Word, 438: A Message From A Humbled King.

King Nebuchadnezzar's Dream, Fulfillment and Restoration.
A Message From A Humbled King.

Daily Spirit & Word, 438: A Message From A Humbled King.

God humbles the proud, but gives mercy and grace to the humble.

Good morning my friends, the rain is falling, but it hasn’t got the bitter coldness of winter anymore, because the days are getting longer and the sun is warming the UK once again: Spring is on it’s way. In the fourth chapter of Daniel, we see the wonderful account of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, it’s meaning, it’s fulfilment and his acknowledging of the LORD of Heaven. It’s amazing, because this King, who had everything was much like the proud people in our own times, who think they are too advanced or clever or smart to need the foolishness of faith in their lives. But we’ll see how the LORD can change all of that in an instant or in Nebuchadnezzar’s case after Seven Years…

Daniel 4:1-18
1  King Nebuchadnezzar sent this message to the people of every race and nation and language throughout the world: “Peace and prosperity to you!
2  “I want you all to know about the miraculous signs and wonders the Most High God has performed for me.
3  How great are his signs, how powerful his wonders! His kingdom will last forever, his rule through all generations.
4  “I, Nebuchadnezzar, was living in my palace in comfort and prosperity.
5  But one night I had a dream that frightened me; I saw visions that terrified me as I lay in my bed.
6  So I issued an order calling in all the wise men of Babylon, so they could tell me what my dream meant.
7  When all the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and fortune-tellers came in, I told them the dream, but they could not tell me what it meant.
8  At last Daniel came in before me, and I told him the dream. (He was named Belteshazzar after my god, and the spirit of the holy gods is in him.)
9  “I said to him, ‘Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and that no mystery is too great for you to solve. Now tell me what my dream means.
10  “‘While I was lying in my bed, this is what I dreamed. I saw a large tree in the middle of the earth.
11  The tree grew very tall and strong, reaching high into the heavens for all the world to see.
12  It had fresh green leaves, and it was loaded with fruit for all to eat. Wild animals lived in its shade, and birds nested in its branches. All the world was fed from this tree.
13  “‘Then as I lay there dreaming, I saw a messenger, a holy one, coming down from heaven.
14  The messenger shouted, “Cut down the tree and lop off its branches! Shake off its leaves and scatter its fruit! Chase the wild animals from its shade and the birds from its branches.
15  But leave the stump and the roots in the ground, bound with a band of iron and bronze and surrounded by tender grass. Now let him be drenched with the dew of heaven, and let him live with the wild animals among the plants of the field.
16  For seven periods of time, let him have the mind of a wild animal instead of the mind of a human.
17  For this has been decreed by the messengers; it is commanded by the holy ones, so that everyone may know that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world. He gives them to anyone he chooses— even to the lowliest of people.”
18  “‘Belteshazzar, that was the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, had. Now tell me what it means, for none of the wise men of my kingdom can do so. But you can tell me because the spirit of the holy gods is in you.’

This chapter is easily broken down into sections:

  • The King’s Dream and Calling of Daniel:
  • Daniel Explains The Dream:
  • The Dream is Fulfilled:
  • The King Honours The Lord:

What does it take to bring The Proud of Heart to their knees before God?This king had already had two AWESOME miracles that clearly demonstrated that there was a Sovereign God who’d made all things, even kings were in their place because the LORD wills it.

Remember how Daniel had revealed that God knew about the King’s first dream and Daniel told the king what it was and what it meant.
Remember how Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego had been rescued from the fiery furnace.
The King had seen them and acknowledged that only God could have rescued them.
Now, this is the THIRD time, the LORD is doing something great in his life.
God showed the King, long before it happened what would take place. but WHY? Why didn’t God just immediately remove the proud of heart king from his place and put someone who loves and worships the Lord on the throne instead? Well the answer of course is that God’s ways are not our ways. Also God always gives a warning of what will happen unless people repent and change their ways. He sends his messengers; either prophets and priests or dreams and visions.
Even today God uses these things to bring people to their senses and acknowledge the Lord Jesus as King of their lives. How, through His Word (The Bible) through His messengers; evangelists and Christians who’ll tell the Gospel Good News, but He still does it through dreams and visions as well.
Can you imagine what the world would be like if the GREAT LEADERS: China’s Chairman Xi Jinping, Russia’s Mr Putin, America’s Barack Obamah or even in our own country Prime Minister David Cameron, came to their senses and realised they are only in their positions of power and influence because God wills it? Imagine what the world would be like, if whilst in power they all turned to Jesus Christ as LORD of their lives? How would PEACE rule the earth? How would world hunger be eradicated? How we could see fairness, equality and justice for everyone? How there would be no armies or tanks or weapons of mass destruction. Pray for them all my friends, but I know that the LORD also deals with small and insignificant people of this world to change the hearts of the proud of heart. He uses those who are nothing in the eyes of the world to shame the wise in their own understanding.

The Mighty Tree:

Of course the dream is obvious to us all now, but it is strange non-the-less.
Trees can being either a source of Good or an influence for Evil: As can Kings or Presidents or Prime Ministers.
Trees can supply the needs: Their fruits distributed to feed the nations: Their leaves used to bring healing to the nations. Their leaves provide a cover of protection for those who can’t protect themselves. Their branches used to make houses and shelters.
However, The Mighty Tree: That once stood proud and tall for all the world to see: Can be toppled so quickly.

 The Stump in the Ground:

The LORD chooses to leave a STUMP in the ground: This speaks to me today of Hope of Resurrection. The King was given the meaning by Daniel, we’ll look at that tomorrow, but the stump of course is the King, who after being wild would be restored.
Perhaps, the LORD is going to bring something like this in our day, to bring all those who are proud in heart to the point of acknowledging there really is a God in Heaven, then He’ll put a desire within them to seek God and discover who he is, they’ll find that the LORD Jesus Christ is the only way to understand Heaven. That Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to true knowledge and understanding. That ONLY Jesus can fully meet all of our needs.
Yes we can get by, if the LORD will allow, for a while, even all our life on our own. However, as long as we are away from the LORD we’re NOT living life as He intends. We’re not fulfilling our Divine destiny. We are NOT a peace within. We’re not experiencing life in His abundance.
Like King Nebuchadnezzar, we have a choice; whom shall we serve: Ourselves, our ego, our empire or His?
We must also remember the message of the LORD through John the Baptist, the last and greatest Prophet before the Lord Jesus came; He gave this warning to those who had ears to hear God’s message;
“The Axe Is At The Root”
Matthew 3:10-12 10  The axe is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
11  “I baptise you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
12  His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing-floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
May the Lord Jesus grant that all those who are Proud of Heart find repentance and forgiveness in Jesus. Those who think they are the masters of their own destiny. Those who think this world revolves around them. Those who think that others are here for their pleasure and purposes. Those who think that the world owes them everything. May they be brought to the point of joy in discovering that Jesus Christ is the true King.
Let us be sure in our own hearts today that we’ve gotten low so that He can lift us up. Is Jesus your KING or are you still hanging onto being the master of your own destiny?
This weekend I’m praying for you all my friends; let’s continue our journey towards glory with the LORD Jesus. Let His Word feed your soul, the Holy Spirit guide your feet and keep you on His narrow path, and fill you with understanding and wisdom and with His power: so that you can bring glory to the LORD with your life. Amen.
