Antiques Appreciate With Age

Heirlooms depreciate in value, because they are viewed differently

Daily Spirit & Word 565: Antiques Appreciate With Age.

It was one of those nights again, I had another dream that I believe was from the LORD. I don’t know who it’s for though, so I’m just sharing it generally for all to enjoy.

In the dream, I was upstairs in an old dusty attic loft, with wooden balustrades and open slatted bannisters. There was a very good looking woman (I know who she is), who was acting like a Princess (in her own eyes), but everybody else thought she was a grown-up-spoilt-brat of a woman. Over the years she’d used her good looks to get what she wanted in life; the best boy in school, the best and biggest circle of friends were attracted to her, because she was bright, intelligent and politically lethal. Of course she had money and she was daddy’s little girl, even though she was a grown-woman and married.

As I gazed upon the scene she was in the full-throws of an argument with her handsome husband, she wasn’t going to get her own way for the first time in her life, she ran down the stairs and tripped on the bottom step landing in a heap on the straw-strewn floor beneath. She began kicking her legs in anger and a massive tantrum erupted, she was sobbing and crying out, and banging her fists upon the floor. I heard myself saying in a loud voice, loud enough for her to hear, “I’ll bet she was a spoilt-brat as a child”. She stopped crying immediately and looked around at me with a red tear-soaked face and glowered at me. But as I looked around the room, it was full of people, hundreds of them, all familiar to me, and they were all nodding their heads in agreement some even saying openly out-loud, “She was, she was and she is”…

Then the LORD said something that startled me awake; “Antiques appreciate in value with age, but heirlooms tend to loose their value” I said, “What does that mean LORD?” He answered me, “Antiques are valued by collectors and looked after by dealers, they are maintained and treasured. However, Heirlooms are handed down from one generation to the next, and more often than not they are not valued by those who receive them, they are viewed as an encumbrance and an embarrassment and often hidden in the attic or loft.”

“Antiques appreciate in value with age, but heirlooms tend to loose their value”

“Heirlooms are handed down from one generation to the next, and more often than not they are not valued by those who receive them, they are viewed as an encumbrance and an embarrassment and often hidden in the attic or loft.”

After a while, I was fully awake by now, but then the LORD said again, “So it is with the Christian faith, as a man or woman who’s become a convert to My Son Jesus Christ grows older, the rest of the Saints value him or her and treasure their God given wisdom and gifts. They are looked after and honoured in their meetings and I LOVE them too. However, when that same Christian faith is second or third generation, then those born into a family of faith, with real saints in their family line, they more often than not view their hand-me-down faith as an encumbrance, they have a form of Christianity, but it’s devoid of My power. They know all about My Son, but they don’t know My Son Jesus and so they do not treasure their faith as their relatives once did.”

The woman in my dream was born into a family with a strong Evangelical tradition, she’d been brought up to go to church, was the sparkling gem of a child, who because of her family heritage was even spoilt in Sunday School. (Spoilt means = Having the character or disposition harmed by pampering or oversolicitous attention) and you know how she turned out, but there is real HOPE: Because that woman became a born-again believer in the LORD JESUS CHRIST. She is just as on-fire with the Holy Spirit today as her ancestors were. What happened? She met Jesus for herself: Repented, Received Him as Lord and got baptised.

My friends, you cannot be born a Christian, you must be born-again. You cannot be a Christian because Granny was a strong believer or Grandaddy was an Elder or Deacon in the Church; you must be born-again yourself.

“Nobody can enter the Kingdom of Heaven, unless they are born again of God’s Holy Spirit.”

You cannot get born-again, by just attending church, being baptised, going to Sunday School or taking Holy Communion. No my friends, you too must come to believe that Jesus died upon the Cross for your own sins, all those Commandments of the LORD that you’ve broken will one day land you in Hell, unless you too repent and trust the Saviour for your Salvation. Why? Because God must punish sin and until you come to the Saviour in repentance and faith, you are carrying your own load of sin. You’ll carry it all the way to the judgement unless you hand it over to Jesus at the Cross.

Time is short, time is running out, each day that passes is one more step towards Eternity. So take the leap into Jesus arms right now, and let Him catch you before you fall into the pit of Hell.

Be certain today that you’ve turned from your sins, stop trusting in your own goodness and begin trusting in Christ’s goodness to save you from God’s wrath to come.

Ardian Rogers explains it so clearly; “All sin will either be pardoned in Christ or punished in hell. No sin and no person who sins will slip by, adjudged.” Adrian Rogers. Love Worth Finding.

“All sin will either be pardoned in Christ or punished in hell.

No sin and no person who sins will slip by, adjudged.”

A ‘faith’ that’s handed down from one generation to the next, without becoming personal and real, is no faith at all. No wonder so many people who think they are Christians because their family were strong believers, are treating their faith as if it’s an encumbrance or an embarrassment.

My friends, when you KNOW Jesus, your faith in Him is valued above everything else in life.

  • You’ll treasure your Bible because you’ll know it’s God’s love letter to you. That He speaks to you through it’s pages and guides you in life and corrects your thought and desires.
  • You’ll long to gather with the brothers and sisters to worship with all your heart and sing your praises to the Lord until it hurts, because you love HIM.
  • You long for and look for opportunities to share you faith with others and spread the good news, because you can’t bear the thought of anyone, even your worst enemy, spending one moment in Hell with the Devil.
  • You’ll also look for ways to be used by the LORD for good in the world. Instead of avoiding the poor, the weak, the lame and the outcast, you’ll search them out an help them. Why? Because you’ll be filled with the LOVE of the LORD.
  • You’ll look for and desire to be filled with God’s Holy Spirit every day and moment by moment throughout each day of your life; Why? Because you know that trying to get by in your own strength and ability leads to spiritual failures.

As you grow into an old Saint in Christ my friends, growing up in that kind of faith, then you too will become a treasured antique; treasured by your fellow saints and by the LORD Jesus Christ.

God bless and I hope you all have an AWESOME weekend.

(Now I can go back to bed, it’s only 2.45am 😎 😆 😛  ).

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I thank you that I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139), that you’re calling everyone out of darkness into your marvellous, magnificent, amazing light. Please help me today to be the person You want me to be. Fill me with the Holy Spirit Lord, because I need Your power to live each moment for You. Amen!

For Further Study / Scripture Notes:

If You Sin: You’ll Die: Why? Because each person will pay for their own sin: Ezekiel 18:20  “The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against him.”

(Don’s Side – NOTE: Therefore, no one can be saved because their mum, dad or granny or granddaddy were Christians. You must become ‘righteous’ in Christ yourself, but trusting in the Lord’s death for your own sins.)

All Have Sinned: Romans 3:23  “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

(Don’s Side-Note: Each one of us has broken at least one of God’s Commandments; lying, stealing, lusting, cheating, coveting, dishonouring our parents).

DEATH because of SinRomans 5:12  “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”

God’s Wages For Sin: Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

What IS Sin? (KJV & NIV) 1 John 3:4 “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.”

1 John 3:4 “Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.”

So SIN is: Breaking God’s Moral Law: Revealed in His Ten Commandments. (NOTE: The Ten Commandments are NOT ten suggestions, but Commands by God to be obeyed, we break them and become guilty law-breakers)

HOW do we get to be ‘righteous’? 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For He [God the Father] hath made Him [Jesus Christ] to be sin for us, Who [Jesus] knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him [Jesus].

(Don’s Side-Notes: We become righteous in Christ the moment we receive Him as our Saviour after believing that He died on the cross for our sin and rose from the dead to show that God the Father was satisfied with His Sacrifice for sin, then we repent (turn from all sin in our life) and receive Him as our Lord).

There are NO second-hand Christians, only first-hand Believers. You can be purchased (redeemed) by Jesus today.

A NEW WAY To Talk to God.

The Lord's Prayer

Daily Spirit & Word, 535: A New Way To Talk To God.

Good morning my friends, I don’t know about you, but as a School Governor, it fills me with dread whenever the Government brings out a new ‘brilliant’ initiative that will transform the education and outcomes of the school. Oh yes! I’ve heard it all before, time and time again, but most often they just lead to lots of work for teachers and senior staff in the school environment. So much time is given over to the new initiative that teaching takes a sad second place and the children are the ones who suffer the most, because you’ll get great teachers who’ve just had enough of government interference in stuff they know so little about and they’ll take redundancy or early retirement. It’s sad, because they’ve still got a lot to offer and their heart for the children’s learning is obvious.

When they come up with the new initiative, it’s accompanied with impenetrable instructions and ill-thought-through implementation procedures. However, through the Lord Jesus Christ he made the NEW WAY to talk and relate with God crystal clear and easy to follow.

HOW NOT TO PRAY:

Before Jesus taught His followers how to pray, He first told them how NOT to do it. This is really important, because we don’t want to make those stupid mistake do we 🙂

Matthew 6:5-8
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
6  But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
7  And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
8  Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

What Jesus saying about the above?

  • Don’t be a show off or Shallow Prayer: Be sincere.
  • Your Father will reward you when you go to Him.
  • Don’t keep babbling like the pagans. It’s NOT about the quantity of our words, but about the quality, sincerity. Remember that God ALWAYS looks at the HEART. He knows when we’re being genuine and sincere. He knows what we need. It’s recognising that God is our FATHER and He knows what we need even before we begin to talk with Him, but He still wants us to talk to Him about it. However, you don’t need to go into all the details, He knows that already, just be straght-forward and let Him know what you need.

The NEW WAY:

We call the New Way of talking with God: The Lord’s Prayer.

You’ll be asking, “What’s ‘new’ about that?” Well, the Lord’s Prayer was such a radically different approach to communicating and meeting with God, that we need to look at it afresh in every generation.

Matthew 6:9-15 9  “This, then, is how you should pray: ” ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
10  your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11  Give us today our daily bread.
12  Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ (for Thine is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory. For ever and ever, Amen!).
14  For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15  But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

(Also Luke 11:1-4)

NOTE: Jesus didn’t just tell them what to pray about, but He also gave us the reasons why we should do it that way, i.e. He explained why we needed to forgive others.

It’s NEW:

Before Jesus introduced us to the New Way:

In ancient times people related with God through Priests, they couldn’t do it for themselves. They had to make a journey to where the Priests operated and get them to interceed for them. However, so impressed with the way that Jesus lived, talked and did things every day, the first followers asked Jesus to teach them how to pray like He did. They said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray”. Jesus told His followers that they’ll be ‘RELATING’ to God personally, themselves, individually: He said, call God; “OUR FATHER”. God is GOD ALMIGHTY, but He becomes your Father the moment you are born of the Holy Spirit by trusting Jesus Christ for your Salvation. From that moment on you are in an eternal family relationship with God the Father, Jesus the Son (who becomes your eternal Lord and brother), and the Holy Spirit. What a wonderful family to belong to, what a privilege, what a JOY.

It’s EASY:

Do you remember yesterday when I quoted Jesus “Come to me” statement? He said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light”. He’s soooo right my friends, even the way that we pray to our Father is really easy. However, it’s also really deep. Because in just 70 words we can range from God’s Eternal Greatness right down to our most basic needs in life, our daily bread.

It’s PERSONAL:

Instead of calling out to a far away, distant and unknowable God, Jesus introduced us to a New Way of relating to God: As FATHER. He said, “When you pray”. Notice Jesus expected us to talk to God. “Say, ‘Our Father'”…. WOWzer! Jesus was the Only Son of God, but He knew that after He died, we’d be brought into a relationship with God through our faith and trust in Himself, that we’d become Children of God. (John 1:12).

What an awesome privileged position Christians are in. It’s a bit like Prince George relating to his father Prince William. When we approach Prince William, as his subjects, we’ll bow and call him, “Your Highness”. Why? Because in society he’s higher than everyone else. However, little Prince George can run right up to him and call him “Daddy”. We can do that too my friends. So the new way is intimate and personal.

It’s POWERFUL:

Your Father in Heaven: He rules. He’s the Boss of the Cosmos (I love that saying). He can do ANYTHING (apart from the things that go against His nature or revealed will).

Remember God is NOT limited by the laws of physics. Jesus could walk on water, raise the dead, turn water into wine, make a few loaves of bread feed thousands of people.

Your Father in Heaven wants you to know that even before you ask Him, He’s able to meet ALL your needs.

His power extends into every sphere; both physical and spiritual. He’s not in an equal fight against the forces of evil. One day God will make the Devil and all his host of demons pay, but even now God’s in total control and can deliver us from ALL evil.

It’s ALL Encompassing:

The Lord’s Prayer touches every aspect of our lives, it’s not a prayer that’s meant to be said by rote, but rather as a Springboard into a deeper prayer life with our Father in Heaven.

Remember that Father God also took up residence in your life, so Heaven is definitely in your heart too. (John 17).

When we say; Matthew 6:13 13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

We are reminding ourselves that our relationship with God is ETERNAL, It’s Easy, It’s Personal, Powerful, All encompassing and we NEED Him every day.

The Lord’s Prayer: Is a powerful new way of communicating with God, He’s your Father in Heaven, if you’ve trusted Jesus as your Saviour.

It’s my hope and prayer that today you’ll feel encouraged to come afresh into the presence of God your Father and talk with Him in the NEW WAY and see His POWER at work in your life. Amen!

Don.

Hearing God’s Voice Today

God Speaks but Samuel fails to discern His voice

Daily Spirit & Word: 531: Hearing God’s Voice Today.

Good morning my friends, it’s going to be an exciting Lord’s Day, because the first Sunday of the month is Feast Day in West Norwood. People will come from miles around to visit our part of London. They’ll come to sample: food, music, art, crafts and creativity. They come to be with friends in a friendly atmosphere, they’ll gather in the gardens and sit down to eat and watch their children playing. They come because they’ve got a hunger within; but there’s a problem, they don’t really know what it is they’re hungering for. Some of them think they do, and would probably argue about what I am going to say, but non-the-less I’m going to put my neck on the chopping-block and say; “They’re hungry for God, but they don’t know it”. They’re trying to satisfy the deepest hunger anyone and everyone could ever have or ever will have, with the created things, rather than with the Creator.

We’re living in a time today, very much like it was in the days of Samuel. We’re going to see today that Samuel had some problems and so have we, but he found the answers and so can we: But Samuel needed someone to tell him what to do to get his answer to the problems, and so does everyone in the world today.

Samuel Hear’s God’s Call:

1 Samuel 3:1-11 1 The boy Samuel ministered before the LORD under Eli. In those days the word of the LORD was rare; there were not many visions.
2  One night Eli, whose eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see, was lying down in his usual place.
3  The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was.
4  Then the LORD called Samuel. Samuel answered, “Here I am.”
5  And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.
6  Again the LORD called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” “My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.”
7  Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD: The word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.
8  The LORD called Samuel a third time, and Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realised that the LORD was calling the boy.
9  So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10  The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
11  And the LORD said to Samuel: “See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle.

A Little Background About Samuel:

Samuel was God’s gift to his mother. For years she couldn’t have children, but went to the House of the Lord to pray about it. The House of the Lord in those days was the Tabernacle: The Tent of Meeting. Priests would serve the Lord there. So Hannah went and prayed and the Lord answered her prayers. She called him SAMUEL BECAUSE “The Lord Hears” or “God has heard”, that’s what Samuel’s name means.

Once Samuel was weaned, i.e. She was able to give him ordinary food and not breast milk: She took him to the Temple of the Lord and dedicated him to the LORD. She left him at the Temple to serve the LORD all the days of his life.

Imagine that: The most precious gift anyone could ever be given and she gives it back to the Lord. The gift was a child and Hannah was so overjoyed, that she gave her son away at a very young age to serve the Lord forever.

In those Days: The Priests who ministered before the Lord: Offering Sacrifices, were very wicked indeed, but Samuel grew up and served the Lord faithfully. He became popular with all the people of Israel who came to the Temple to offer their annual sacrifices to the Lord.

Samuel was being instructed by a man called Eli: (It was Eli’s sons, the priests, who were the most wicked).

Problem 1: God’s Voice Is Rare: (But the Lamp Still Burned).

(He’s not giving many visions). {Because of Wickedness: Sin cuts us off from God}

The reason God’s Voice was RARE: Was because everyone was doing what they wanted to do, instead of what God wanted. Judges 21:25 (AMP) “In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes.”

  • They did what they thought best.
  • They didn’t seek God.
  • They didn’t care about what God wanted or had said.

Even the ones who’re meant to be ‘Good’ were ‘Bad and Corrupt’: The Priests working in the Temple (The Meeting Place with God).

1 Samuel 2:22 (NIV) “Now Eli, who was very old, heard about everything his sons were doing to all Israel and how they slept with the women who served at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.” (See notes about God’s Judgement at the end).

However: There is HOPE because “The Lamp Still Burned”: It hadn’t gone out yet. (1 Samuel 3:3 and Leviticus 24:2).

And we too live in similar circumstances: People are wicked, they do what they think is right in their own eyes, the priests and ministers are wicked, they like Eli, don’t try and correct the wickedness of our day, they go along with the world’s ways instead of God’s ways. However, there is HOPE: Because the Lamp is still burning today.

Jesus is the Light of the World: But the WORLD (Just like Samuel didn’t recognise the voice of the Lord at first), cannot see Jesus for who He is…

John 1:9-10 “The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. 10  He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognise him.”

My friends, Jesus can give us the Light we need in our lives today. But will we let Jesus the Light of the World into our lives?

Problem 2: Didn’t Recognise God’s Voice:

{Because of Ignorance: We don’t recognise God’s Voice}

Though Samuel was serving in the Temple (verse 3) and Ministering before the LORD (verse 1) The problem was, he didn’t recognise the voice of the LORD when He called out to him. (verse 5). Three times the Lord called out “Samuel, Samuel” each time the boy ran to Eli and said, “What do you want master”. He just didn’t know it was God speaking to Him.

People today don’t Know God: They can’t Hear God. God is still speaking, He’s still calling out to people, He’s still drawing people and putting a deep hunger in their hearts, but they don’t recognise His call today. They also mis-interpret the deep hunger and try to fill it with the things of this world. It will never satisfy, because it was only meant to be satisfied with God Himself.

Thankfully Eli came to the rescue:

He realised it was the LORD calling Samuel. (Verse 8).

1 Samuel 3:8 (NIV) “The LORD called Samuel a third time, and Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realised that the LORD was calling the boy.

My friends, there is a way for people to HEAR God’s Call: We’re the Priests like Eli. We know God is calling people, we just need to do what Eli did and say, “It’s the LORD calling you”… To those who’re trying to satisfy God’s call with the things of the world. They’re confused and mis-interpret the hunger. They’re not hearing or perceiving or understanding that God put that deep hunger for significance and meaning for life within them. It’s God that put eternity into everyone’s heart.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 11  He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

It can only be satisfied when they come to Jesus who gave them the gift of the knowledge of Eternity in their hearts. (I.E. People know that this life is NOT all there is, because God has planted ETERNITY into everyone’s heart).

Christians to the Rescue:

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV) “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9  not by works, so that no-one can boast.” God gives the gift of faith or FAITH is a Gift.

How do we get the Gift of Faith: Faith comes by Hearing God’s Word:

It comes by Hearing His Word: (The Call). Romans 10:17  “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”

When people get the faith as a gift, they’ll hear the call of the Gospel. But the World needs someone, like Eli, to tell them, “It’s the LORD who’s calling you my child”.

Christian are called and equipped by the Lord to take His message to a world that’s in the Darkness needing the Light.

Problem 3: Not Knowing What To Say:

{People need to know HOW to respond to God’s call}

God’s speaking, but people don’t know HOW to answer Him.

Samuel heard God’s voice, didn’t know it was God and Eli told him what to say.

1 Samuel 3:9-11 (NIV)

9  So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10  The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
11  And the LORD said to Samuel: “See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle.

Samuel only had seven words to remember; “Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening”

Did you notice that He missed out the most important one: LORD!

Because Samuel answered, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

My friends, People in the World today: Have these same three basic problems:

1) Because of Wickedness: They’re cut off from God.

2) Because of Ignorance: They don’t recognise that God’s put a hunger in their hearts.

3) They Don’t Know How to respond to God: The need to be shown HOW to respond.

What a wonderful word from the LORD today. Even though Samuel missed out the most important word: “LORD“, the LORD still came and spoke to Him.

My friends, it’s NOT the word’s that are important: It’s the response of your hearts.

If you recognised that God is calling out to you today: Just open up your life to Him. He’s still calling and standing with His outstretched arms:

Matthew 11:27-30 27  “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No-one knows the Son except the Father, and no-one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
28  “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Jesus is saying to you today: “Come to Me” “Come”.

People often respond; “Yes, but HOW? How can I come to Jesus?”

Here’s HOW:

  • Believe: that Jesus died upon the Cross for your sins. (The Barrier Has been Broken).
  • Repent: Turn from your sins and believe that He’s paid the price: Death for sin. (Respond to His call).
  • Receive: Trust in Jesus Christ as your Saviour from sin’s curse, and receive Him as your LORD. (Take Him as your Saviour).
  • Serve: His yoke is easy and His burden is light: He’s got things for you to do and a way for you to be.

Can you HEAR the voice of the LORD today?

  • He’s calling His Children to take His Message to the World.
  • He’s calling the World to Himself.
  • He’s waiting for a response from both; His Children, those who’ve trusted Jesus and received Him as Lord, to be reaching out to a world that’s in darkness, that needs the light in their lives, to be faithful like old Eli and point them to the Lord.
  • He’s waiting for the world to hear His voice: Those who’ve yet to; believe in Jesus death, repent of their sins and receive Him as Lord.

My prayer is; “No matter who you are today, you’ll respond to God’s Call, and quickly.”

Amen!

Don.

Notes: The Prophesy Against Eli’s House:

Reveals the wickedness of his sons.

1 Samuel 2:27-36 27  Now a man of God came to Eli and said to him, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Did I not clearly reveal myself to your father’s house when they were in Egypt under Pharaoh?
28  I chose your father out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod in my presence. I also gave your father’s house all the offerings made with fire by the Israelites.
29  Why do you scorn my sacrifice and offering that I prescribed for my dwelling? Why do you honour your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?’
30  “Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that your house and your father’s house would minister before me for ever.’ But now the LORD declares: ‘Far be it from me! Those who honour me I will honour, but those who despise me will be disdained.
31  The time is coming when I will cut short your strength and the strength of your father’s house, so that there will not be an old man in your family line
32  and you will see distress in my dwelling. Although good will be done to Israel, in your family line there will never be an old man.
33  Every one of you that I do not cut off from my altar will be spared only to blind your eyes with tears and to grieve your heart, and all your descendants will die in the prime of life.
34  ” ‘And what happens to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, will be a sign to you—they will both die on the same day.
35  I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to what is in my heart and mind. I will firmly establish his house, and he will minister before my anointed one always.

The Name of The LORD

In The Name of Jesus

Daily Spirit & Word, 483: In The NAME of Jesus.

“The Name of the LORD is; A Strong Tower.”

Proverbs 18:10 “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”

Good morning my friends, I do hope you’ve all managed to enjoy the Easter Week in some way, I’ve taken a couple of days off to spend time with my wife and some of the grandchildren. We’ve visited two of England’s most famous Castles: The Tower of London and Leeds Castle in Kent. Personally I found Leeds Castle to be a far more enjoyable experience, but they are both well worth a visit. What struck me was on each occasion a song was in my heart as I walked around, “The Name of the LORD is a Strong Tower” we normally sing that with all our children and have actions and hand gestures and movement.

Those castles have mostly been taken over and defeated not by someone breaching their defences or knocking holes in the massive thick walls, but from traitors within who let the opponents, enemies and foes come in and overrun the garrison. It’s amazing, they are very strongly fortified against attack, they’ve got trained troops ready to respond when the alarm is given, but nothing, no armaments, no amount of guards, no portcullis, nor arrows or strong-bows can fend off an attack from within.

 Portcullis:

Portcullis is from the French porte coulissante or gliding door, it is a kind of very heavy vertically-opening gate typically found in medieval fortifications, consisting of a latticed grille made of wood or metal, or a combination of the two, with sharpened spiked ends. They are normally held open but ready to be dropped at a moments notice upon the enemy as they try to storm the castle. You’ll notice these at the Tower of London and Leeds Castle.

A Strong Christian Tower: My friends, though we may put up defences that look impressive to the world as Christians we can’t fool our greatest enemy. Most Christian are brought down, not with diseases or lack of wealth or lack of health, but when we’re at our strongest and most impressive. We can sometimes put on a marvellous display for the world and fellow believers: We can come to Church regularly, carry a heavy Bible wherever we go, wear a cross to show we are following Jesus. Take holy communion regularly, attend Bible study and Fellowship groups, be known as a man or woman of prayer and have a powerful ministry for the Lord. To the world we’d look like very strong and impressive Christians who follow the Lord Jesus Christ. However, we have a much more cunning enemy, because he sees all of these outward signs and laughs at them, for he knows us, he observes our lives, our private lives, and he’s waiting and watching for an opportunity to attack and bypass those obvious defences. You see our enemy knows us so well, too well, that he knows the secret ways to get into the heart if the strong castles of the Christian life, and let loose his troops on the inside. How does the enemy do it? He is one who knows not only our strengths, but weaknesses as well.

You’ve probably all heard or read about those amazing Brothers and Sisters in the LORD, who for many years were following the Lord Jesus, but somehow we led astray and have fallen into sin. We spoke to a woman on Wednesday night last, that couldn’t fully commit to the Lord Jesus, because she’d observed so many, who were once impressive MEN OF GOD who’d fallen away from the faith. Satan can bring anyone down with a great big crash, then all of our impressive outer-structure, clean clothes, flashy suits or power-based ministry will count for absolutely nothing in the attack that ensues. Remember the Bible calls Satan a prowling, roaring Lion. Oh yes, we can all sing about how he was defeated when Christ died and rose again from the dead. He is a defeated foe, He’s lost the whole war, but He’s in the process of fighting a rear-guard retreat. Do you know that when Germany was on the defensive, they killed more Allied troops in the last year on the retreat than at any other time during the Second World War? Satan knows he’s defeated, but he’s not done yet, that’s why the Bible calls him a roaring lion, he’s been wounded, a lion that’s wounded is far more dangerous than a lion that’s perfectly well. He roars in agony and fight for his life more viscously than a normal lion. Any attack against a wounded lion will result in the most powerful swiping of his claws. He’s dangerous and he knows all your weaknesses.

The NAME of the LORD IS a Strong Tower.

When under attack a Righteous Follower of the Lord Jesus Christ will run to HIM. Running to the LORD Jesus what does that involve and what does it mean?

Jesus NAME: The Name of the LORD in the Old Testament (Old Covenant) was Jehovah. The Lord’s name had so many variants to describe His Divine Characteristics. Names for God in the Old Testament: https://www.blueletterbible.org/study/misc/name_god.cfm God is so good and powerful and His Name signifies His entire glory.

Jesus and the Father are ONE: Jesus said we should use His Name.

You know when we pray and say at the end of our prayers, “In the Name of Jesus. Amen” It’s not just any old name we tag on at the end. It’s like the signiture on a Cheque that guarantees we’ll get the money transfered into our account. It’s like the name on the back of your Credit Card or like the unique finger-print that unlocks the latest iPhone 6. Jesus Christ’s NAME means everything else must bow before Him. Take a very careful look through the list of verses that describe Jesus NAME and all about Jesus below. I’ve been meditating on all these verses today and oh WOWzer! What POWER and GLORY are revealed in Jesus Name and who He is.

  •  Sickness must submit to Jesus NAME. (Blindness, Lameness, Deafness, Death).
  • Nature must submit to Jesus NAME. (Water, Storms, Wine,)
  • Diseases must submit to Jesus NAME.
  • Demons must submit and tremble at Jesus NAME. (Satan and EVERY Demon).
  • Satan himself must submit and tremble at the NAME of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
  • Death cannot battle against the NAME of Jesus. (Lazarus, The Funeral of a child, Jesus own Resurrection).

Oh my friends, we’ve got to get a NEW grip on the reality of the NAME of Jesus Christ and His AWESOME Power. No other Name under Heaven given to men… WOWzer!

The Follower of Jesus has Enemies:

We have got some POWERFUL enemies against us my friends;

  • Your enemy the Devil: Prowling Lion.
  • Your enemy the Flesh: The internal battle of your sinful nature against the Holy Spirit’s rule in your life.
  • Your enemy the World:
  • Your enemy the …………

We’ve got a whole host of armies ranged against our strongest towers my friends, how can we ever hope to win in this endless, life-long battle. One of my friends passed a message during the weak, he’d lost a battle in an area of life, he knew his weaknesses and gave into temptation, but he also knew and knows today that we’ve won the WAR, we may loose the occasional battle, but it’s good sometimes, even in defeat to remind the enemy, “I may have lost this little battle, but I know that my Saviour has won the war”. Christ has overcome the enemy and so can you my friends, but we must shore up our defences by being clever and knowing our weakest areas in our personality and taking appropriate measures to ensure the enemy never gains a foothold into our hearts again. We might possible loose a few battles, until we can see that the enemy is not really all that clever and he keeps getting into our Towers the same old ways.

It’s not just knowing the NAME of Jesus though, because as you’ll read below, even the demons know and believe in Jesus and they tremble, but it’s not about just knowing His name or tagging his glorious name onto everything, it is about actually Knowing Jesus. We know HIM when we receive Him as both LORD and Saviour. There’s no other way than to come to Jesus confessing our sins to Him, Repenting from those sin and turning in Faith and Trust to Receiven Him as LORD. Once we do that, and we put our faith in His death for our sins on the Cross only then can we say that we know Jesus, because He’ll respond my friends, He’ll give you the eternal gift of the Holy Spirit who’ll come into your life and give you the NEW BIRTH, you’ll be born again by God’s Holy Spirit and you’ll be a member of God’s family forever. Only THEN can you rightly use the Name of Jesus for He will be in you. You will be His ambassador in the world and you’ll be able to defeat any evil forces that come against you, even your own flesh. Get a handle on who Jesus is by reading, meditating and believing the verses below.

Leeds Castle and The Tower of London have stood for over 1000 years, but various kings have been defeated, because they lost the battle within rather than from an outside attack. You will be VICTORIOUS over ALL your enemies IN Jesus Christ. He IS your Strong Tower.

Jesus Christ is the NAME above ALL names. He IS your strong tower and every time you feel attacked either from without or within you can RUN to Jesus and use His POWERFUL NAME to defeat ALL your enemies. Amen! You MUST RUN to Jesus Christ quickly when you are under attack.

My friends, we need to know Jesus as LORD and Christ before we can ever use His NAME effectively in prayer. His Name will be as empty and powerless as a dead mobile phone, until it’s charged up with the POWER of Heaven. Amen!

God bless and have an awesome Saturday with Jesus.

Don.

BTW: Leeds Castle is an amazing place to visit with family. There’s something to do for everyone. It’s not cheap, but well worth a visit if you can afford it. Take a packed lunch, we didn’t and had to pay the price for terrible food at extortionate prices. Next time 🙂 The grounds are awesome and the Castle one of the most impressive in England.

But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. The Wideness of God’s Mercy

The Wideness of God's Mercy

Daily Spirit & Word, 481: The Wideness of God’s Mercy.

Good morning my friends, I hope your Easter Week is going well. Today we’re thinking of God’s mercy towards sinners. He’s just so outstandingly kind, gracious, forgiving, loving, gentle. When we hear of God’s wrath, anger and justice, we must always remember that they are tempered and controlled by every other aspect of His Divine Character.

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

My friends there is a wideness in God’s MERCY that I believe we’ve only just touched upon. So many Christians it seems love to hear or talk about God’s wrath and anger against sin (and He is), but there’s also such a breadth to God’s Divine Nature that we miss out on when we simplify our focus too much. It’s not surprising that when we concentrate on just one characteristic that we produce lop-sided followers. It’s like we’re producing Disciples with limps or with a load on one shoulder and we do a real dis-service to God’s Kingdom. Not only that, when your Heavenly Father looks at you, He’s probably wondering why you’re not conveying the whole Good News.

 Mercy triumphs over judgement.

James 2:13 (NIV) “because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgement!”

Can you see that my friends? God’s Justice and Judgement are good and righteous and necessary, but there’s a wideness in God’s mercy, that means because we’ve been forgiven so much, we should also extend that same mercy and forgiveness towards others.

 How is God Merciful?

Well, when we reflect upon the Cross and why it was that Jesus came to die, we discover that it was because of God’s great love for those He had created, He doesn’t want anyone to perish in hell, but everybody to come to repentance. Of course if people refuse God’s mercy, then He’ll have to give them His judgement, anger and wrath against their rebellion and sin. However, the amazing thing is God holds out the olive branch of peace and mercy and forgiveness. He’ll remove all our transgressions, trespasses and sins, “As far as the east if from the west”…

My friends, if you are sincerely desiring to follow after God, become more like Jesus, then you need to discover more about what God is like in His Character, the Holy Spirit will be moulding you into the same shape as Him. There’s no better place to look than to the stories of the Saviour, but the same nature and character are also revealed in the Old Testament.

Let’s look at just one Psalm that shows us God’s great kindnesses and mercies. Psalm 103. Read it and meditate upon it, highlight every word that speaks to you of God’s goodness, mercy, kindness, forgiveness, grace, etc…

Read this Psalm out as loud as you can, get to a lonely place and shout it out, for faith comes by hearing the words of the Lord. My friends, God’s MERCY will become evident when you HEAR God’s Word Today. Let His grace and kindness wash you clean.

Psalm 103:1-22 (NIV)
1  [Of David.] Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2  Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits
3  who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
4  who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,
5  who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
6  The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
7  He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel:
8  The LORD is compassionate and graciousslow to angerabounding in love.
9  He will not always accuse, nor will he harbour his anger for ever;
10  he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.
11  For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;
12  as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13  As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;
14  for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.
15  As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field;
16  the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.
17  But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD’S love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children—
18  with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.
19  The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.
20  Praise the LORD, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.
21  Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will.
22  Praise the LORD, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the LORD, O my soul.

Did you shout it out? I’d have woken all the grandchildren, but I shouted it out in my mind 🙂 I’ll be shouting it when they all wake up in about an hour though.

From the start to the finish this Psalm shouts out loudly of the wideness of God’s MERCY.

The themes ringing loudly in your ears today should be: Forgiveness, Healing, Deliverance, Soul-Satisfaction, Redemption, Compassion, Renewal, He Fights For Justice, Gracious, Patience (slow to anger), Love (abounding in love), Cleansing from All sin, Praise the LORD my soul.

“As a Father has compassion on his children”

One day when I was playing football (soccer) with my brother in the garden, I broke a big window. My mum shouted at me and told me to come into the house, she said, “Wait until your father gets home, he’s going to punish you severely for this”. All the rest of that day I was dreading the moment my dad got home from work. He came in and I thought at first my mum had forgotten to tell him, but then she did and my dad said, “Go into the bedroom, I’ll be in soon to sort you out boy”… I was crying and saying how sorry I was, it was an accident, pleading for forgiveness, but my dad’s eyes said it all. He came in and closed the door, then he said, “Get over my knees”. All the time me pleading, “I didn’t mean it”. Then he whispered in my ear, “make a loud scream and I’ll pretend to whack you” So that’s what we did, I creamed and he made a whacking sound. Then he said, “I know you didn’t mean it, but be very careful, you’ll have to work to pay for the window” I nodded and he said, “Now go in and rub your bum like it hurts”. My brothers and sisters and mother were all looking at me when I went in and I played my part and pretended to be hurt.

“As a Father has compassion on his children” My dad gave me a great lesson that day. I deserved punishment, it was in the days when parents disciplined their children and I knew I was wrong, but he had mercy upon me. Earthly fathers love their kids, but God our Heavenly Father has so much more compassion, He doesn’t punish us as our sins deserve (Verse 10).

Does this remind you of the Lord’s prayer? It should. It ends as the Lord’s prayer begins, but the themes of God’s grace and mercy are as evident. Pray this Psalm, let His Character soak your soul and sing songs about how merciful our Father in Heaven really is. He’s forgiven me so much, and yet He’s calling me to a higher walk with Him. He knows what I’m like, yet He’s crowning me with glory and honour. How can we not PRAISE the LORD, O my soul.

Hymn: There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy:
There’s a wideness in God’s mercy,
like the wideness of the sea.
There’s a kindness in God’s justice,
which is more than liberty.
There is no place where earth’s sorrows
are more felt than up in heaven.
There is no place where earth’s failings
have such kindly judgment given.

For the love of God is broader
than the measures of the mind.
And the heart of the Eternal
is most wonderfully kind.
If our love were but more faithful,
we would gladly trust God’s Word,
and our lives reflect thanksgiving
for the goodness of our Lord.

Turn and again and dust yourself off my friends, get cleaned up and wash your hands to serve the Lord. Let His kindness, mercy and grace wash over your soul today.

Jesus died to set you free from sin. Live in that freedom, knowing the depths and wideness of God’s mercy and how it triumphs over judgement.

Believer: The LORD Is Your Protector

Daily Spirit & Word, 458: Believer: The LORD Is Your Protector.

It takes courage, unity and determination to defeat the enemies of the LORD.

Exodus 17:15 “Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-nissi (which means “the LORD is my banner”).”

Israel had been attacked by the Amalekites. It’s an amazing incident, for when Moses tired, his hands were supported by others. We need to remember that Moses by now was a very old man, but he was still God’s chosen man to lead the Nation of Israel from Slavery to Freedom in the promised land.

Joshua was the commander of the army of Israel: He was a faithful warrior for the Lord, but this battle plan had a strategy; Joshua would fight and Moses would stand.

Exodus 17:8-16

8  While the people of Israel were still at Rephidim, the warriors of Amalek attacked them.

9  Moses commanded Joshua, “Choose some men to go out and fight the army of Amalek for us. Tomorrow, I will stand at the top of the hill, holding the staff of God in my hand.”

10  So Joshua did what Moses had commanded and fought the army of Amalek. Meanwhile, Moses, Aaron, and Hur climbed to the top of a nearby hill.

11  As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage.

12  Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset.

13  As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle.

14  After the victory, the LORD instructed Moses, “Write this down on a scroll as a permanent reminder, and read it aloud to Joshua: I will erase the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”

15  Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-nissi (which means “the LORD is my banner”).

16  He said, “They have raised their fist against the LORD’s throne, so now the LORD will be at war with Amalek generation after generation.”

To Help Defeat The Enemy:

  • Joshua needed Moses
  • Moses needed Aaron and Hur
  • Israel needed the Lord

When they attacked Israel it wasn’t just Israel’s army they were attacking; He said, “They have raised their fist against the LORD’s throne, so now the LORD will be at war with Amalek generation after generation.” Verse 16.

My friends you, those of you who have been chosen by the Lord Jesus Christ, are members of God’s Holy, Heavenly Family forever, so whenever you are attacked from any source, they are attacking the “Throne of the LORD” Therefore, the LORD will be engaged in the battle with you. That’s why King David had such confidence in the LORD, because he knew that with the Lord no enemy need be feared.

Psalm 60:4 “But for those who fear you, you have raised a banner to be unfurled against the bow.”

Psalm 27:1-3 (NIV) [Of David.] “The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? 2  When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. 3  Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.”

As believers we’ve also got the same kind of assurance that Moses, Joshua, Aaron, Hur and King David had; God is with you.

Revelation 17:14  “They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.” My friends, when you trusted in Jesus Christ and turned in repentance and faith to receive His forgiveness, did you realise that you were; “Called and Chosen?” WOWzer! Sometimes we think our walk with Jesus is all down to us, but He’s the one who called you, you simply responded. He’s the one who chose you. Out of all the people on the earth today, you were called and chosen by the Lord to be a member of His family forever, so He’s going to fight for you when you need His divine help.

Here is the Confidence we can have that Jesus is with us in every single battle that we face as Christians.

Romans 8:28-31 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29  For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30  And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. 31  What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?”

“If God is for us, who can be against us”

Oh WOW! “If God is for us (on our side) who can be against us?”

A NOTE of Caution: Our battle is NOT against flesh and blood (  ) but when we are attacked by other human beings the LORD will watch your back.

Be sure that you never attack one of the Lord’s chosen, anointed, justified and sanctified people, because if you do then He’ll become your most fearsome enemy.

For the Believer in the Lord Jesus Christ:

The Lord will help you in every battle, against every enemy.

My friends, I hope you have an AWESOME week, knowing that you’ve been called by Jesus, chosen by Jesus, justified by Jesus and that you are also protected by Jesus and the LORD’S Army. Fight valiantly dear warriors of Jesus.

The Highest Bidder Wins

Daily Spirit & Word, 464: The Highest Bidder Wins.

The Highest Bidder Wins.

Or the things that screams the loudest in our lives often take priority.

Good morning my friends, we had a wonderful evening of Evangelism on the Streets of West Norwood last night. The weather is warming up in the evenings now, so we were quite surprised by the number of people who were prepared to stop and have a chat about; Jesus, faith, the real meaning of Easter etc… The little Easter tract was a real winner too, so my thanks go to a lady from Chatsworth Baptist Church who pointed them out and to Amanda our Church Administrator who printed the labels with Church details. It was really good, because so many people took one as they rushed out of the Station on their way home from work. These little tracts were a great Springboard into Gospel conversations. I think a good springboard is something that enables you to get into ‘spiritual’ conversations quickly.

Once I got back home I began to think about the conversations and it seems to me that people have lots of things in life that are priorities for them, but they are not living according to the list of things they actually value or see as important to them. Quite often the one with the loudest voice is like the highest bidder at an auction, screaming out for our attention and focus.

For instance, the following list are things that might possibly be important to you, what I would like you to do today is put a number from 1-10 in their order of priority for you. One being highest and 10 being the lowest.

  • ___ happy family ____________________
  • ___ successful career ______________________
  • ___ fame/popularity ______________________
  • ___ wealth _____________________________
  • ___ sex _________________________
  • ___ strong relationship with God __________________
  • ___ fun/pleasure/good feelings _____________________
  • ___ good looks ________________________
  • ___ athletic skill ________________________
  • ___ solid marriage _______________________

Having listed them in order of priority for you, now I want you to think of your reasons why? Do it quickly without analysing it too much.

Now, how did you feel as you were asking yourself, “Which of these is the highest priority in my life?”

and “Did what I think should be a high priority turn out to be something I spend a lot of time on during a typical week?”

Most often we find that people value their families and God as highest in their ranking or priority, followed by career or job, but very often they spend little time during the week maintaining these first two critically important aspects of their lives.

Don’t feel crushed if that’s you today, because you are not alone. You see my friends, what is important in our lives reveals our heart’s desires, but what we do about it and how we prioritise our working / living week is something only we and the Lord will be able to sort out. Remember where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

  • Matthew 6:20-21 (ANIV) 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

 Today’s Verses From God’s Word:

John 9:4-5 “As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no-one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

As long as it is day, we must do the work of our Father in Heaven. Remember, Jesus said, “YOU are the Light of the Word”… We can’t keep hiding our light, we must shine brightly for Jesus and let others see His glory through our lives.

I love the little letter of James, he’s just so straightforward and forthright. James 4:13-17 “Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14  Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15  Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” 16  As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. 17  Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.”

If you’ve got time then please also read; The Parable of The Talents; Matthew 25:14-30 (Printed at the end of today’s message)..

It seems to me that we’re all very busy doing things that aren’t even high on our list of priorities in life, we’re overwhelmed with pressures of work and finance, therefore family and God get pushed much further down the list of things to do on a daily and weekly basis. We long to be better husbands and wives, and worshippers of the Lord, but because we fail to prioritise these things in the order they should be we live with a constant feeling of guilt and often shame a well.

It’s TIME to be set-free from these traps my friends. God wants to be FIRST in your life, when we do put him first it’s amazing just how much time we’ll then find for everything else that’s really important to us. Below I’ve listed some really good books to help us find priorities in life, I’m sure you’ve probably got some more that you’ve read, please share them with everyone in the comments section below.

God bless and have an awesome Thursday with Jesus, but Don’t let the one who shouts the loudest rule your life. As a believer in the Lord Jesus we must listen out for the voice of the Holy Spirit and He’ll guide you and show you what should be highest priority for you and Him today.

Be at PEACE!

Don.

P.S. I’m sorry this is late today, I’ve had to spend time with my daughter and her children having breakfast. It was fantastic, she’d cooked sausages, bacon, eggs, tomatoes and beans, toast etc… Yummmmy. The Children were great fun to be with and eating around the table together is always great. Aminata read me a story from her school-book before she got ready for school. Family really does come a very close second to time with Jesus. God bless my friends. Don.

 Good Books and Helps:

Here is a list of good books that will help you to Prioritise your life after God’s patterns for righteous living.

  •  How Now Should We Live?: by Chuck Colson (Tyndale House Publishers). This insightful analysis of culture challenges Christians to live their faith in a hostile environment.
  • Meeting the Jesus Challenge, Real Life… Real Questions… Real Jesus: by Len Woods (Standard Publishing). This book, the third in a series of four devotionals tied to The Jesus Bible (Tyndale Publishing House), it helps people rise to the Jesus challenge. You’ll be challenged to watch Jesus in action, to listen to his teachings, and then to obey what Jesus tells you to do. The third section takes a close look at priorities and values, answering the question, “How does life change when we view it from Jesus’ perspective?” The challenge here is for people to seek first Christ and his kingdom.
  • Ordering Your Private World: by Gordon McDonald (Thomas Nelson Publishers). McDonald teaches that time and talents are gifts to be carefully invested and he provides biblical principles to help care for the inner self.
  • Seven Habits of Highly Effective People: by Stephen Covey (Simon & Schuster). This business world classic and top ten seller for over a decade takes people from dependence to independence and finally to interdependence in relationships. It provides helpful counsel on choosing priorities and sticking with them.
  • Who Switched the Price Tags?: by Tony Campolo (Word Publishing). Campolo challenges readers to risk more, reflect more, and do things of lasting value. To get the most out of life, we must put first things first.

Also I love Rob Parsons and his books on family life and getting it right from a Christian perspective: His Website: Care For The Family: http://www.careforthefamily.org.uk/

The Parable of The Talents: Matthew 25:14-30 (NIV)

  • Matthew 25:14-30 (ANIV)
14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them.
15 To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.
16  The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more.
17  So also, the one with the two talents gained two more.
18  But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
19  “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.
20  The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’
21  “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
22  “The man with the two talents also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more.’
23  “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
24  “Then the man who had received the one talent came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.
25  So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
26  “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?
27  Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28  ” ‘Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents.
29  For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
30  And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Divine Expectations

Daily Spirit & Word, 458: Divine Expectations.

Are You Eating For; One or Two or for Thousands?

Divine Expectation: Divine Pregnancy: Unusual Cravings: Expectant for one or two or thousands.

Seven Benefits of Bible Memorisation. Benefit #4 Divine Expectations.

Good moring everyone, did you see that AWESOME sunrise? I watched it going from darkness to light and it was pink long before the sun lit up the sky with glorious colours. I had an expectation that it would be brilliant long before the sun popped up.

You know when you’re semi-conscious and a thought comes into your mind, then you think to yourself, “This is from the Lord, I must write that down before I forget it?” Well, I had such a thought this morning and it was this; “When a lady is pregnant, sometimes we’ll say, “She’s eating for two you know””… Then I knew God had given me a word for today; “When a Christian is pregnant with expectation that they’ll win thousands for Jesus, they’ll devour God’s Word like a pregnant woman who’s eating for thousands of babies.” Divine Expectations.

John 4:35 (NIV) “Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”

Mark 4:20 “Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.”

“She’s so Large because She’s Pregnant with twins”. Recently we had a lovely lady in our Fellowship who gave birth to twins and they are so gorgeous. My friends, when you win someone to Christ, when you’ve been involved in giving birth to a new-born-babe in Christ, you are overjoyed right? Now imagine if you got pregnant with the expectation that you are going to win thousands to the Lord Jesus Christ? How much would you need to be eating whilst pregnant with that?

Remember Jesus teaching about the fields being white unto harvest and the labourer’s being few? Well they are RIPE unto HARVEST, but are we getting ready to go into the labour ward? Are we ready to get out into the harvest field to deliver the babies that we’ve been eating for?  Divine Expectation: Expecting Thousands or are you just eating for one or two or are you getting into God’s Word and storing it within to win thousands to Christ?

Whatever burden Christ has put upon your heart; remember this truth and remember it well: “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” With Christ’s burdens for service and doing His will, it will not be an overwhelming burden, but it will be easy, it will be a joy, it will be natural, Supernaturally Natural, because we’ve been given a new nature in Christ. You will not be overwhelmed by Christ’s burdens: If it’s winning the lost, giving to the poor, leading in worship, teaching, preaching, working in the background, helping brothers and sisters practically, showing love to strangers, pastoral care; Whatever the Burden from Christ it’s going to be easy, but we’ll need to be equipped for the task.

If a Field Gunner (Field Gun Crew RN) is going into training, they’ll begin to eat the right food to bulk up and prepare for the task in hand. So too with those who are getting ready to serve Jesus Christ, we’ll bulk up with Divine Food. We’re getting ready to deliver the goods.

Look How Jesus Was Burdened (To accomplish the Father’s will).

John 4:34-38 (NIV)  “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. 35  Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. 36  Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37  Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. 38  I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labour.”

Jesus Food: “To do the will of Him who sent me”. The Christian’s Food: The Bread of Life

John 6:33-35 “For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34  “Sir,” they said, “from now on give us this bread.” 35  Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.”

Jeremiah 15:16 “When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God Almighty.”

Whatever Christ is calling you to do today, whatever burden he’s placed upon your heart, you are going to need Supernatural Energy: That comes from the Holy Spirit. Also, you are going to need to be feasting upon a Divine Diet: Eating and Feasting upon God’s Word like we’re eating for a thousand babies, we’ll want to see many new-born-babes in Christ.

For Evangelists: who engage in One-to-One witnessing and sometimes preaching to thousands;  the only way to win them is to KNOW God’s Word: The Spirit will bring it to mind during conversations, but we’ll need to do the eating and feeding my friends. We work together with God’s Spirit, we don’t depend upon human resources, but we must make every effort to get to know God’s REVELATION that he’s already given, before we’ll get any new revelations whilst out witnessing for Him.

I’m sure it’s the same in many other fields of Christian Service (Burdens) too: Pastoral Counselling: I know of one Pastor who get’s a Word of Knowledge, but it’s always backed up by a Scripture the Lord brings to his remembrance.

There are people who’re involved in Foodbanks here in the UK, one Christian I know, talks with clients who come for food, but she’ll often talk to them about the Lord Jesus and try and lead them to Him. I got a word from the Lord one day at the Foodbank: “We can get by on earthly food, but we’ll thrive with Divine food. It’s NOT enough just to give them food for emergencies, but we need to be feeding them with Divine food too.”

 Unusual Cravings:

When a woman is pregnant, she’ll often get unusual cravings for certain foods; gherkins, pickles, cakes, crisps, cookies etc… When we’re pregnant with Jesus Divine Burdens; we’ll get different cravings for God’s Word. We’ll be zealous, we’ll have a craving for certain types of Divine food;

  • Prophets: we’ll get prophetic insight in to His Word,
  • Pastors: we’ll get pastoral guidance if we’re a pastor from God’s Word,
  • Evangelists: we’ll get scriptures to that will hit home to seek and to save the lost.
  • Apostles: we’ll get practical insight if we’ve got an Apostolic calling or Administrative burden from Jesus.
  • Teachers: We’ll get hungry for being able to communicate God’s Word in winning ways that will enlighten the body of Christ.

My friends, today you can see that I’ve been given a word from God today, “Divine Expectations” I’ve just been writing as the Lord has brought this idea to life, it’s not organised or structured, I’ve been pouring it all out this morning. Praise the Lord for His inspiration.

When we’re getting into God’s Word and getting God’s Word into our memory banks, He’ll bring it to life is so many wonderful ways. Whatever burden the Lord has placed upon your heart, for service in His Kingdom, it’s not going to be too heavy or hard, he’ll equip you for whatever He’s called you for. However, I encourage you to be eating His Divine Diet for Kingdom Service today. Feed in such a way that His revealed will and word will never leave you. Get into Bible Memorisation.

If you’ve been given a Divine Burden (Pregnancy), are you eating for one, two or for thousands? Can I encourage you with all my heart today, no matter what Burden the Lord has put upon your heart, to be eating for THOUSANDS.

For me, I’m an Evangelists at heart: I know that the fields truly are RIPE unto harvest and the labourers (those in labour) are few, ask the Lord of the Harvest to send out labourers, those who are pregnant with expectation that they are going to deliver babes-in-Christ. “I’m ASKING You today Lord” Amen.

Are you eating for one, for two or for thousands? Let’s be pregnant with expectation in the Lord today. Amen!

Have a great weekend my friends.

Don.

Mark 4:1-20

1  Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered round him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge.

2  He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said:

3  “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.

4  As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.

5  Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.

6  But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.

7  Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain.

8  Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times.”

9  Then Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

10  When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables.

11  He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables

12  so that, ” ‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’ ”

13  Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable?

14  The farmer sows the word.

15  Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.

16  Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy.

17  But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.

18  Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word;

19  but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.

20  Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.”

Fair and square

Fairtrade Fortnight starts today here in the UK. Today’s act is a simple one to start the week: support the Fairtrade movement. Because everyone has the right to earn a fair wage for an honest day’s work.

The Bible teaches that a labourer deserves his wages.

You don’t mussle an ox.

You even feed the animals that work for you.

Take a look Here for some more ideas on how to help people get what they deserve.

In the UK you can support The LIVING WAGE campaign. People deserve to be paid at a level upon which they can not just survive, but thrive. Let’s make the UK a fair place to live.

God bless and keep being GENEROUS EVERY DAY.

May the LORD give you all the strength you need.

Choose This Day Whom You Shall Sever

Daily Spirit & Word, 440: Choose This Day Whom You Shall Serve.

As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.

Daily Spirit & Word, 440: Choose This Day Whom You Will Serve.

As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.

Good morning my friends, it was a wonderful Saturday which began with the Preacher’s Breakfast and ended with picking up the Grandchildren from Kids Space in Croydon. They enjoyed the whole day with their father, but by the time we got home they were all fast asleep in the car and it meant a tip-toe up to bed and gingerly getting them ready, trying not to rouse them from slumber.

If that is how we love our children and grandchildren, then as Christians we need to know our Heavenly Father loves us even more. We get warm-fuzzy-feelings when we see them happy, imagine Father’s joy when He knows we’re thrilled with His company and blessings?

Joshua 24:14-15
14 “Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshipped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.
15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”

My grandchildren have been staying with us over the last few days whilst their bathroom is being re-decorated and walls in the hallway and one bedroom being re-plastered, by the time they get out of bed I’ve been up praying and studying the Bible, but they come into my study and want to know everything. They’ll say, “Papa, what are you doing?” I’ll tell them, “Why are you doing that Papa?” they are naturally full of questions and interested in what Papa is doing, but what are they really doing? They are trying to get Papa’s full attention. Because I love them, I can’t deny them my heart, they win and we end up eating breakfast together.

For us, Christians, our FATHER is longing for us to wake up and be with Him. To ask Him the question, “What are you doing Abba?” (Daddy, Father) Knowing the Father’s will and what He wants us to do is critical to our walk and witness in the world. When you wake up in the morning you are faced with the same choice Joshua put before the People of Israel: to cast aside all other worldly desires, all those things that would tug your heart and devotion away from your Heavenly Father and to choose each and every morning “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve”.

Joshua brought them to this point after leading the people for many years. What was it that Joshua had discovered in all that time? He’d been selected by the LORD as Israel’s leader, but before he took the reigns the Lord said to him; take time to read this for it’s very important in answering that question:

Joshua 1:1-9

After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant:  “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Great Sea on the west. No-one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. “Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Now can you see why Joshua would say, “Choose this day whom you will serve” and “But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD”.

  • That LORD has been with Joshua.
  • The LORD had given him victory.
  • The LORD had given him the land of promise.
  • The LORD had defeated and driven out the enemy before them.
  • The LORD was with them all they way.

His repeated promise to Joshua, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Choosing the LORD over the Promises and Pull of the world
Guarantees SUCCESS and VICTORY in the Christian life.

Jesus gave the same kind of invitation many times and in different ways; “Take up your cross daily”. “Follow me and I will make you …”, “Take my yoke…” “Learn from me….” “Come to me…”

My friends, when we choose each day to be with our Father, the same God as Joshua’s, offering the same promises to you and me, we’re choosing VICTORY, we’re choosing SUCCESS, we’re choosing Divine COMPANIONSHIP and we’re choosing BLESSINGS beyond belief.

Joshua was reflecting back in chapter 14 what the LORD had done and decided he and his family were going to continue with the LORD. As you reflect back over your Spiritual Walk with Jesus, can you see that choosing Him over the world and it’s powerful pull has been better by far?

I know that I can, because each time, as a Christian, I’ve wandered away from Jesus will for my life, when I’ve neglected being with Him, when I’ve left off reading His Word, my life would become darkness, the Lord would seem distant and every decision I made whilst not being with Him was doubtful. However, when I’m with Jesus, being in His presence daily; in prayer, worship, study, desiring His will and way in my life, there’s everything He promised Joshua and more. My heart cries out to Him right now; “Oh to be in your Presence LORD! To sit at Your feet… this is my desire”

Just as my grandchildren know they can get Papa’s attention, you too will be assured of Father God’s Holy attention and He’ll be with you; BUT you’ve got a solemn choice to make each day.

The pull of the world, it’s false promises of delight, joy, happiness, success, prosperity, fulfilment and prestige in the eyes of others is POWERFUL. There’s no doubt about that, but when you weigh it up, all of that, against the overwhelming JOY in being with, walking with, talking with and enjoying FATHER’S presence with you all through the day, we can easily say to the world with all it’s glittering glow, “No, as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD”.Come AND be in your Heavenly Father’s will today.

Come AND be in your Heavenly Father’s presence today.

Come AND be and He’ll be, as He promised, with you everywhere your feet touch and you’ll know true VICTORY in life.

Have and AWESOME Sunday with your Heavenly Father.
