Two Responses to Jesus

Are you reluctant to share the Good News of the Gospel?

Daily Spirit &Word: 742:

Two Responses to Jesus.

Some say, “I won’t”, but do.

Some say, “I will” but don’t…

Good morning my friends, what an awesome day and week it’s been. Curry night was great Indigo was a treat to the taste-buds. Ying Kai came to my home and so did Pastors and key leaders from other churches in West Norwood. He shared the simplicity of the Gospel and Discipleship, encouraging us to not-overcomplicate the process, but to allow so much more room for the Holy Spirit, it’s not about systems, programs or fancy marketing, but relying completely upon the empowering, guiding and equipping of the Holy Spirit in the knowledge that Jesus will always be with us. Praise the LORD for Ying Kai, his wife Grace (who exudes God’s grace and gentleness).

I was reminded during that meeting yesterday about Jesus Parables and the one about the Two Sons. It’s in a section of Matthew’s Gospel where Jesus was challenged by religious people who were not following Him or His teachings.

The Parable of the Two Sons

Matthew 21:23-32 (ESV)

23  And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”
24  Jesus answered them, “I also will ask you one question, and if you tell me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things.
25  The baptism of John, from where did it come? From heaven or from man?” And they discussed it among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’
26  But if we say, ‘From man,’ we are afraid of the crowd, for they all hold that John was a prophet.”
27  So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
28  “What do you think? A man had two sons. And he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’
29  And he answered, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he changed his mind and went.
30  And he went to the other son and said the same. And he answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but did not go.
31  Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you.
32  For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward change your minds and believe him.

Jesus was talking with the Pharisees, they are the religious elite of the time, people who should have known how to serve the Lord and be a light to everybody for His glory, but instead of working with and accepting Jesus, they had turned against him. This Parable was directed at them, but in some ways it’s directed at every single Christian. Because like those sons, we’ve all said, “Yes” to Jesus, but only a very few who’ve received Christ as Lord are actually being obedient to the things that Jesus commands. His primary command that we ignore or disobey is what we’ve been praying about all week, “Going into the world to share, spread and broadcast His powerful, life-transforming, Gospel message with everyone”…

The first said “I won’t” but later had a change of mind.

There are many people, who upon first hearing the demands in the Gospel message, initially reject it, refuse to acknowledge their sin or their need for God in their life, but later on change their minds. But there’s a much deeper teaching in this parable for those who’ve got ears to hear. What is the SPIRIT saying to you today?

One of the primary reasons Christians STOP or DON’T obey Jesus instruction / command is because of FEAR of rejection or non-acceptance of the message they are taking into the world, their friends and relatives.

So they end up being like the son who said, “I will”, but don’t continue to do it. My friends, I want to encourage you to CHANGE YOUR MIND again, go back to Jesus in prayer and say to Him: “Lord I will go for You”. “I will take Your message of Good News, I will believe what You’ve promised; Authority, Power, Persuasion and Presence when I go. I KNOW that You will be working on those to whom you send me, that by Your Holy Spirit, you’ll be drawing people to Yourself. Give me the courage to continue to be obedient to Your Commands and teachings, and to never give up or give in to fear again.” Amen!

What do you think made the reluctant son change his mind?

It could be his conscience was bothering him or perhaps it was the fact it was his own dear father asking him to do the work?

My friends, You’ve been following Jesus for so long, it’s time to be living in obedience.

A Lady Who’s MIND has been CHANGED.

One lady, who was at our meeting with Ying Kai yesterday, said to me last night, “I know so much, but I’ve been doing so little with what I know”... She’s been on course after course, training after training, but hasn’t put very much of what she’s learned into practice. Don’t get me wrong, she’s the sweetest Christian lady you could ever wish to meet, she’s got a real heart for people and loves and gives so much of her time, talents and treasures to Jesus already. But she felt convicted, because there was an area that she’s been neglecting, even though she knew it should be the highest priority in all her service of the Lord. “Sharing the faith” transitioning from service to witness. She felt she just hasn’t learned or been obedient to actually SHARE THE GOSPEL. She said, “I’m going to come out and learn HOW to do it with you”… I’m praying she will come.

It’s NOT what we know, it’s WHO we know that counts.

The BIGGEST LESSON:

The biggest and strongest message I’ve been learning afresh this week: It’s not what you know that matters, it’s WHO you know. You know Jesus, that’s enough, take what you know about Jesus and how He’s had mercy upon you, how He’s saved you from your sins, cleansed you and forgiven you for so much. Take WHO you know to the people who don’t know Him yet. That’s what Jesus is asking for: Obedience to His Commands.

I’m praising the LORD now, because, even if only ONE person gets this message, this whole week has been a tremendous success for Christ’s Kingdom. However, I know there are MANY MORE brothers and sisters out there, who KNOW they too should be sharing Jesus offer of NEW LIFE with many of their family, friends, neighbours and work-mates and even going farther to share the Gospel with strangers. Some of you have tried and then given up because you didn’t get the response you thought you’d get. Don’t give up, because God didn’t give up on you. Keep going, and keep going back to Jesus again.

Which son will you be?

The one who said, “I will” but didn’t?

Or the one who said, “I won’t, or can’t or it’s not me” but did?

Be like the sweet lady I was talking with last night or the first son in the parable and also Moses, who all said: “I won’t, I can’t, It’s not me”, but eventually gave in and did what the LORD asked them to do.

Be assured that I’m praying for you all, that the LORD will be with you, calling you, equipping you and enabling you to serve Him with your life. Don’t wait for the equipping though, because it comes as we step out in obedience to His Commands.

Thy will be done.

Thy Kingdom Come! Amen.

Praise be to the LORD!

Don.

P.S. Hope you all have an awesome Pentecost Weekend.

We’ve got an Open Air Baptism Service on Sunday: Outside St Luke’s Church.

At 10.30am. No matter what the weather, we’re going to BAPTISE some people tomorrow.

One of the Candidates is a lady called Emma who only gave her life to the LORD on Tuesday. Praise the Lord!

COME!

When Pig Food Looks Tasty

Tasty looking pig food

Daily Spirit & Word: 590:

When The Pig Food Looks Tasty.

“You know you are in deep trouble when the PIG FOOD looks tasty”

Good morning my friends, I’ve had some really dodgy food on my travels around the world, but I’ve never fancied eating pig’s food.

There’s a famous, riveting, wonderful, familiar and heart-warming parable of Jesus in the Bible. It’s about a loving father who has two sons, one of them is a ‘good’ boy and the other is the black-sheep of the family, the wanderer and the waster. You can read it yourself in Luke’s Gospel: Luke 15:11-32. However I’m feeling led to share just a small portion of that story and dwell upon the obvious outcome of a series of foolish life choices.

The prodigal Son has left home with his share of his father’s fortune, after spending it all on wild living he finds himself far away from home, working as a hired hand on a pig farm – feeding pigs.

Luke 15:13-16 13  “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14  After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. 15  So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. 16  He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no-one gave him anything…”

It’s astonishing, but such a SAD reality, that so many of us do things we KNOW will harm us. After spending time wasting precious resources we begin to desire obviously rotten things. Over the years of my adult life I’ve had friends, colleagues and relatives who’ve jumped into situations that would make your hair curl. No amount of advice or warning or patiently counselling has averted the direction of their life choices. Many, who knew and loved them, could see what would happen, some warned, some winced and some abandoned them to their choices.

It was shocking, but I’ve known a well respected and devout Sunday School teacher throw her husband out of the bedroom and move her lover in. Yet she steadfastly believed she was doing the right things and wanted to continue being a Sunday School Teacher. I don’t think her eyes have ever been opened to enable her to see that it was wrong.

However, it has been an eye opener for me, slowly I’ve come to realise that we’ve just got to let some people go. It’s hard and it’s horrible. Yes, we can and should warn and do all that we can to advise and guide, but ultimately we’ve got to love them enough to let them go and discover how bad the Pig Food is for themselves.

I think that’s what Jesus was trying to show us with the Father and his sons in this story. He gave his son what he wanted, then let him go, yet behind the scenes it was obvious the father never stopped loving his son and wanted him to come back home again. No matter what that son did, the father couldn’t change his love for him.

Here the son is looking at PIG FOOD and desiring it for himself.

When Jesus told this story it would have been shocking for the Jews, because they don’t keep pigs. So for a good Jewish boy to be hiring himself out to a farmer in a foreign land who does, tells us something. Yet here he’d reached such a sad state in his life that he wanted to eat the same food the unclean pigs were eating. How disgusting is that? I’ve looked after pigs, but yucky-d-yuck I’ve never wanted to eat it 🙂

That’s how so many lovely people that I know have ended up. They’ve wandered so far away from the Lord and His will for their lives, they’re DESIRING the things that sinners long for in life. They are in the Pig Sty rolling around in the mud and thinking it’s wonderful. Those things have grabbed hold of their lives and they just can’t seem to let go. It was a long-and-winding-road to this disaster, and many could see where they were heading.

Imagine how that father felt as he watched his son walking down the road away from home with a bag full of money. Perhaps the father could see in his son’s eyes, that no matter what he said, his son wasn’t going to listen to reason.

Spend enough time with pigs and you’ll end up behaving like one.

This boy had been living the wild-life, spending his money on foolish things, but when the money ran out, the good times were gone: he had NOTHING. Imagine PIG FOOD looking tasty!

I suppose at any moment he could have just said to the landowner “I’ve had enough, I’m off” We don’t know how long he was away from home, Jesus doesn’t go into that level of detail. What is amazing is how long people stay away from Jesus. They’ve known the love of the Lord, His forgiveness, the power of praise, great friendship and fellowship, the joy of Kingdom living. But somehow they’ve gotten so enthralled with the world’s offerings that nothing can divert them from the pathway of destruction.

Thankfully, Jesus story has a wonderful warm ending. I’ve been moved to tears reading this parable. (I used to weep at Lassie films too). I just get all goose-bumpy thinking about the wayward son returning to his father’s home and receiving such a warm welcome.

Sometimes though, the reality is, lots of the people that we love just don’t seem to want to come home, preferring instead the pig sty and the disgusting pig food. Perhaps they’ve not reached the pig-pen yet. It might take a few more sniffs of horrible pods before they come to their senses.

What can we do?

  • Pray for them.
  • Continue to advise if they’re receptive.
  • Be patient, kind and generous, even when they won’t come home.
  • Get alongside them.
  • Let them see how good life is in God’s Kingdom.
  • Don’t judge them, we’ve ALL been prodigal children and wasted our Father’s inheritance.
  • Be nice and kind and generous when they do come back home.

Notice in the story the Father didn’t even let his son finish telling him how sorry he was. So overjoyed to see his beloved son returning. When we experience LOVE like that, when we’ve wandered and come back home, what a wonderful feeling it is, so how can we ever withhold that same love for our wandering brothers and sisters in Jesus?

Colossians 3:12-14  “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13  Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14  And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

The Bible has a lot to say about that kind of LOVE:

“Love covers over a multitude of sins.” It’s like Father God looks at our hearts when we come back to Him, He knows how sorry we are and puts His loving hand over our mouth to shut-us-up and stop talking, because He wants to throw a big party to let us KNOW how much he loves us. WOWzer!

You can do it for your brothers and sisters. You know they’ve hit rock bottom when the pig food begins to look tasty.

But, you must also watch your own life.

There have been occasions when trying to help others in deep trouble and sin when I’ve also been tempted in exactly the same ways. It’s NOT good for you to fall away too, so don’t ever think you can’t be tempted. TRUST and walk with Jesus in the power of the Spirit and stay humble, honest with your own thinking, and pure in you mind. Watch out because the Devil plays dirty.

Matthew 26:41  “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”

Have an awesome week, and stay away from the Pig Food.

Keep close to Jesus, be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Don.

Who told you that you were naked?

Sin and Disobedience

Daily Spirit & Word: The Fall of Mankind into Sin.

“I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
Good morning my friends, my holiday is over, I’m back at work, it’s been awesome to have a long break from my usual routine, but it’s also good to get back to ‘normal’. It’s early morning and I’m up with my Lord Jesus. You know something, I’ve been meeting with Him every single day of my holiday, because you cannot have a holiday from being a follower of Jesus.

Yesterday someone came around to my house and asked me this question; “How many times can you go away from the Lord before you finally and fully fall away?” It was a simple and honest question. When someone asks me a question like that, I know that it’s like a loaded-gun or an iceberg, there far more below the surface than above the water. Some people have said to me, “How can you fit 120 men inside one of those, referring to my Submarine?” Then I have to explain, “You know my friend, an Submarine is much like an iceberg, there’s far more beneath the water than there is above” If you could see a Submarine in a dry-dock then you’d realise what I mean, it’s an immense piece of exciting engineering which always reminds me of a whale.

My response was, “You only need to go away from the Lord ONCE before it becomes permanent.” His face fell immediately, because, as I’d guessed, he was looking for a way to excuse his life of sin. You see my friends, we cannot have a holiday away from the Lord once we’ve started upon the journey of faith with Jesus. Do you remember the Lord’s words on this subject?

Hand to the Plough:

Luke 9:62 “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

But I’m going through Genesis at the moment and a phrase jumped out a me this morning:

Genesis 3:7-11 7  Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realised that they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
8  Then the man and his wife heard the sound (voice) of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
9  But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?”
10  He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
11  And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree from which I commanded you not to eat?”

Thankfully, those who’ve trusted in Christ Jesus have been SAVED:

Colossians 1:13-14 13  “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14  in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

When we come to Jesus who knows the end from the beginning, He knows your whole life, even before you gave in and trusted Him as your Saviour, so He knows those times that you’ll yield to temptation, that you’ll be weak and fall into sin. And He still gives you the blessings of the knowledge of forgiveness and a new heart to obey Him. What amazing grace and mercy.

Yes Jesus has ‘rescued’ you from the dominion of darkness: However, we still get those same, Adam like, feelings of separation when we sin. Remember how Adam and Eve, once they’d eaten the forbidden fruit, made coverings for themselves out of leaves and hid themselves in the garden of Eden. What was it that made them hide? They heard the voice of the Lord in the garden. The Lord was either singing or saying something out loud, and the voice of the Lord became a terror to them. They knew that they were naked; i.e. that the Lord could see what they’d done, it was open before Him who’s eyes see and know everything. It’s the same with anyone who sins, even just a little, the mere fact and act of disobedience has the exact same effect, we all want to run away and hide from God, from his presence, from His Holy voice. We don’t want to see Him, we don’t want to hear Him, we don’t want to be anywhere near Him, so we run away and hide and try our best to cover-up our shameful nakedness.

Asking that question, “How many times can we go away from God before it becomes permanent?” is like asking “How many times can I choose to sin and get away with it?” The answer is “NONE” You’ll never get away with it, God knows it all and He’s right there as a witness to every single act or thought of disobedience.

Alexander Maclaren has said it brilliantly: “These are still the two lies which wile us to sin: ‘It will do you no harm,’ and ‘You are cheating yourselves out of good by not doing it.’ Alexander Expositions of Holy Scripture – Genesis.

When God asked Adam, “Who told you that you were naked?” He KNEW that Adam and Eve had eaten and had received the knowledge of Good and Evil.

My friend related how he’d been feeling; that there was an emptiness, a barrenness, how God seemed distant, far away. Then he said something amazing, “You know, I know, that God has not moved away, it’s me”…

Temptation to sin: We’ve already lost the battle when we’re thinking to ourselves; “I wonder how many times I can do this and get away with it?”

Disobedience: Acting or Thinking sinfully; results in cutting us off from the Lord. Even after we’ve come to faith and trust in Jesus. Until we get right with Him again we’re separated from Him, we’re not walking with Him, we’re in the darkness and there is a feeling that we want to cover-up our shameful nakedness, to hide our inner-self from the Lord. There is no peace when we’re walking in the darkness. There is no joy in our hearts.

“Who told you that you were naked?”

When we choose to sin, afterwards it’s like the LORD is not there, as if our relationship has died, we’re cut-off from Him. We’ll also get fearful and want to run and hide from God, because we become aware that He can see right through us.

When Temptations Come:

We’ve got a choice: We can listen to God’s voice, His witness within, our Conscience, that will be crying out to us; “This will lead to the death of your relationship with God”. Or we can reason with ourselves and con ourselves into believing; It’s not that bad, everyone else is doing it, everybody thinks it’s OK, it won’t do me any harm, why not enjoy yourself, you deserve it, you’ve earned the right to enjoy it”

But Moses Chose A Different Way:

Hebrews 11:25  “He chose to be ill-treated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.”

When we choose to follow God’s WAY: It’s costly in terms of dying to self, in saying “No!” to the pleasures of sin for a season.

Hebrews 11:25  “Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;”

Yes we can enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season, but whilst we’re doing so, we’ll be doing it away from Jesus and it will be as if He’s dead to us, as if He’s not real, as if there is no God. The realisation will come to us that we’re NAKED and we’ll want to run and hide like Adam and Eve. But just like a dark-cloud hides the sun, the sun still continues to shine behind it’s dark lining; so God continues to reign and rule behind the darkness of our disobedience.

Just as God called out in the Garden of Eden for Adam: “Adam, Where are you?” He’s calling out to you and me today: “Where are you?”

  • Are you walking with the Lord?
  • Are you seeking to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season?

Have an awesome day with Jesus. Choose LIFE, JOY, PEACE and FELLOWSHIP with God today. It’s going to be FREEDOM and FOUNTAINS of LOVE flowing within.

Prayer: “Dear Lord Jesus, I pray today that when temptation comes, I’ll be listening to You in my heart. Help me to know that choosing to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season is like death to my relationship with You. This day Lord; I’m choosing LIFE and the joy that comes as I walk with You. Help me Lord! Amen.”

Teaching Them To Obey Everything.

Go teaching them obedience

Daily Spirit & Word, 518: Teaching Them To Obey Everything.

40 Days With Jesus: Day 34: Teaching Obedience.

We had our final meeting last night, when we shared 40 Days With Jesus. It was a powerful session with; Fellowship, Video, Bible, Prayer and Deliverance and Re-assurance. It’s amazing that the teaching was about the Holy Spirit and His; promise, presence and power in the believer’s life. However, it wasn’t long before we recognised that one of our group needed some deliverance. What JOY there is when captives are set free from Satan’s grip. I want to thank everyone who prayed for our group last night, we definitely needed it. Praise the Lord!

Day 34 of 40 Days With Jesus: TEACHING.

Part of Christ’s Great Commission in Matthew 28 was; Jesus Authority, Commanded to Go, Proclaim the Gospel, Make Disciples, Baptise those who come to faith and finally, today’s message; “TEACH”, but teach the new converts what?

Matthew 28:16-20 16  Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.
17  When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted.
18  Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

It’s not just teaching them anything, it’s not teaching them to become ‘religious’, it’s not teaching the newly converted followers of Jesus man-made-rules or regulations, but it’s “teaching them TO OBEY EVERYTHING I HAVE COMMANDED YOU”

NOTE: It’s critically important to point out this FACT: We are NOT SAVED by OBEDIENCE, we ARE SAVED by God’s GRACE. It’s not by how obedient we are to Jesus Commands or that would be a “Human Works Based Gospel” (Like, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Roman Catholics, Mormons, Islam or every other kind of ‘religion’). No my friends, Christians are SAVED by God’s GRACE through putting our FAITH and TRUST in the Living, Resurrected Lord Jesus Christ. We’re saved because we’ve come to see that we are SINNERS in need of being RESCUED and who need a SAVIOUR or we’ll have to face God’s RIGHTEOUSNESS on JUDGEMENT DAY. We’ve responded the the GOSPEL by BELIEVING in Jesus DEATH ON THE CROSS for the sins of all mankind and REPENTING of our own sins and trusting that Jesus died for us personally. Once a believer has done that, there’s the one final step of RECEIVING Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour by inviting and responding to the Holy Spirit’s prompting. It’s ALL BY GOD’S GRACE THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS.

However, once we are SAVED there is an inward desire to be obedient to the Lord Jesus Christ, but we do need to be TAUGHT what it is that we are to be obedient to. That’s why God has given to the Church THE GIFT MINISTRIES: APOSTLES, PROPHETS, PASTORS, EVANGELISTS and TEACHERS (Ephesians 4:11-13).

Ephesians 4:11-13 11  It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers,
12  to prepare God’s people (newly converted followers of Jesus) for works of service (obedience to the commands of Jesus Christ), so that the body of Christ may be built up 13  until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fulness of Christ.

God has called us to be fishers of men, but we must be very grateful that He doesn’t leave new believers floundering like a fish that’s been landed on the sandy beach by a fisherman. Everyone who comes to FAITH in the Lord Jesus Christ must be DISCIPLED, BAPTISED and TAUGHT.

The FIVE-FOLD GIFT MINISTRIES: Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers.

This TEACHING of the followers of Jesus is partly fulfilled by God’s Holy Spirit, but also by God’s Word and by God’s GIFT MINISTERS: Jesus never had in mind just a one-man-show style of leadership, i.e. the model we have in most gatherings of Christians today; the LEAD PASTOR acting like a mini-Pope. or Mainstream Church, with a Minister, Priest or Pastor doing all the work of the church. That’s a complete distortion of what it means to be a Biblical Gathering of the Saints, because right from the beginning we will only find in Scripture a PLURALITY of LEADERSHIP. In God’s mind we’re to have the five-fold ministries, anointed and called and gifted by the Holy Spirit, who are activated and working in every fellowship of the saints. Notice that it doesn’t say: “Apostle, Prophet” it says “Apostles and Prophets etc… I.e. more than one of each in every fellowship. They are to train others up in their particular gifting and calling. So an Apostle is to teach others how to be an Apostle, the Prophets are to teach others how to prophesy, the Evangelists are to teach others how to reach out and proclaim the Gospel so the newly converted believers will become evangelists.  The ONLY healthy churches today are the ones that have these FIVE-FOLD ministries activated by the Holy Spirit today. So, who’re the Apostles in your fellowship? Who are the Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers? Be assured, God’s Word doesn’t lie, they are there because God is giving them to us, even today: It’s the Church’s call to discern, recognise and appoint, and the Holy Spirit’s role to Anoint and to give the GIFTS.

WHAT ARE THE COMMANDS / TEACHINGS OF JESUS?

It’s simple my friends, it’s contained within the pages of the Bible: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, and all the Epsitles. It’s contained within the pages of the Old Testament too, for ALL Scripture is God Breathed. Thankfully the Apostles put down on paper the Commandments of Jesus and the Teaching of Jesus. They are all there to help us grow to maturity in our faith, so that even if we were on an island, marooned with just the Bible, we’d have enough to become completely mature as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 3:10-17 10  You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance,
11  persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.
12  In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
13  while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
14  But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it,
15  and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
16  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
17  so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

My friends, you’ve got it in your fellowship in the FIVE-FOLD Ministers, the WORD of God, the fellowship of the SAINTS (your brothers and sisters in Christ) and last, but by no means least, The INDWELLING PROMISED PRESENCE AND POWER of The Holy Spirit. All of these things will help you to know HOW to live righteously for Jesus Christ. How to OBEY His Commands. We’re not saved by being obedient, but the TEACHINGS OF JESUS will enable us to; AVOID: LEGALISM AND LICENCE, that’s why Christ set us free from the LAW and gave us the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit, He’ll guide us into all truth, enable us to live righteously before God and help is to avoid; ‘rules, regulation and  ritualistic religion. Live by the Spirit and you’ll be able to put to death the deeds of the flesh and you’ll experience complete FREEDOM in Christ. That freedom will enable you and change your desires so that you’ll want to be OBEDIENT to the Lord Jesus teachings and commands.

Jesus said, “IF you love Me, you WILL obey my Commandments”.

FREEDOM IN CHRIST: means living in the power of the Holy Spirit who’ll set us free from: RULES, REGULATION and RITUALISTIC RELIGION. He’ll enable us to love Jesus and live in obedience to His commands.

GOD HATES RELIGION: BUT HE LOVES OBEDIENCE.

As an example of OBEDIENCE over RELIGION: Consider the life of King Saul, who lost the Kingdom because of DISOBEDIENCE. He thought he could appease an angry God with RELIGIOUS DEVOTION, but God wanted a man who’s heart was ready to be obedient, so He chose King David.

1 Samuel 15:22-23 22  But Samuel replied: “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
23  For rebellion is like the sin of divination (Witchcraft), and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.”

That’s why TEACHING was so important to Jesus in the GREAT COMMISSION of the first Apostles, and why learning to be OBEDIENT to Christ’s commands and teachings is so critical for our walk in the Spirit today. Thanks be to God for giving us all that we need to keep going.

Have an awesome day with the Lord Jesus, praise Him now with singing, pray and seek His direction and fullness of the Holy Spirit. It’s my hope and prayer that you are getting it my friends; Jesus wants you to be involved in His GREAT Commission, to Go, Disciple, Baptise, Teach Obedience and be aware that He’s with you in everything you are doing for the Kingdom. Awesome!
