Immanuel God With Us

Immanuel, Emmanuel, How to know that God is With Us.

Daily Spirit & Word: 814: The Meaning of Immanuel.

Good morning my friends, as I was just about to post my message today when I heard the tragic news about that terrible plane crash. It was carrying a Brazilian football team. (Link BBC NEWS)

I’m praying now for all those who’ve been affected by this disaster.

It’s a word we hear every Christmas, but like a lot of religious words, we’ve lost its meaning somehow along the way. Or if we do know what it means, the impact of that meaning is not hitting home. Because of all the hustle and bustle and the haste to buy stuff, far too many Christians aren’t looking forward to Christmas, but we can re-capture the MAGICAL feelings we had as children, all the excitement, joy and wonder of Christmas. It happens as we experience IMMANUEL for ourselves.

What does Immanuel mean?

Immanuel means: “God with us”.

Let’s unpack IMMANUEL a bit…

Matthew 1:23 (NIV)  “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us.”

This is a quote from Isaiah the great Prophet of the LORD. Isaiah 7:14.

Immanuel means “God with us”…

When Jesus was born, he was a baby human being, he became one of us, but He was also still God, just wrapped in flesh.

Some people call this taking on human flesh, the INCARNATION:

Now when you dwell upon that fact, The CREATOR of the whole Universe and time itself, came to Earth. Out of all the billions of little planets, he chose EARTH to come and reveal Himself to His Creation. Awesome!

Of course He came for a reason, Jesus was coming on a rescue mission.

It’s a bit like the Government sending in the SAS to set free the prisoners held hostage by the Iranian Terrorists in the Iranian Embassy in London in the 1980’s. LINK in that BBC News coverage you’ll see them storming the burning building.

Jesus, of course, didn’t come with guns blazing, smoke going off and bombs sounding, nor did He arrive with an army to win His battle, instead Jesus came and Heaven burst into song and God let the Shepherds experience Heaven for a moment. Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe gave His life upon the Cross for all mankind to be set free. However, his birth and death was even more dramatic than that SAS rescue. He was publically executed, with the crowds watching. Alongside at least two others that day Jesus public humiliation and death was a victory. Though the world at that time didn’t realise they’d just killed Immanuel: God with us.

However, we know that His death was not the end, because just three days later, Jesus, because He was always God, came back to life again. His mission was completed and His body is alive today in Heaven where He ascended over 2000 years ago. The next time anyone is going to see Jesus, apart from in visions and dreams, is when He returns in all the glory of Heaven.

But before Jesus comes back, we’ve been given an opportunity to get to know Him. We can know Immanuel, God with us, personally right now. We can experience God and know God… Have you had your own Immanuel? Do you know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God is with you?

Once you experience Immanuel for yourself, nothing will ever be able to take away that experience, it will transform you life forever. Because God becomes your Immanuel, Jesus promised this very thing for everyone who believes and trusts in Him.

John 14:23 (NIV) Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”

Once Jesus comes into your life, He comes in TRINITY: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Your own body becomes the TEMPLE of God, because wherever God is, that is His Temple. When He comes as promised, that is your Immanuel moment, but it lasts forever.

You’ll know Him, if you LOVE Him.

You’ll know if you love Jesus Christ. When you hear his name, your heart skips a beat. It’s like He’s inside you witnessing within, that He’s here. Oh yes, you’ll know if you love Jesus.

Nobody needs to tell you when you are in love with another person, your heart, mind, will and strength are for that relationship. You’ll do whatever you can to be with your lover. When you are apart, you’ll always long to be together. I knew when I was in love with my soon to be wife Julie, because I was over 200 miles away, and all I longed for was the evenings when I could get to a telephone box (no mobile phones in those days), to call her at her house. We’d spend ages chatting about nothing on that phone, until my money ran out. When you are together, its like you are in the place that you’ve always belonged. All you want to do when you are in love is hold that person as close as possible, it’s like the two have become one. That’s real LOVE! That’s how you know you love Jesus, when you are ONE with Jesus.

You’ll know if He is your LORD:

When Jesus is your LORD, then you will be prepared to do whatever He tells you. It won’t be a burden to you to be obedient to Jesus, because you’ll be in love with serving Him. He’s your beloved King and you’d willing die in His service.

You’ll know if He is your Immanuel:

You’ll know if you’ve submitted your life to Him, because your desires will be changed and you’ll want to live in obedience to Jesus commands and teachings. That’s how you know if you’ve experienced Immanuel for yourself.

So HOW do we get our own IMMANUEL?

“Come, oh come Immanuel…” (The Christmas Carol).

Invite the LORD to come into your life right now.

Believe in the LORD Jesus Christ: It’s easy to say, “Oh yes, I believe in Jesus”, but that doesn’t mean that you are BELIEVING IN Jesus; i.e. trusting that He has died upon the cross for your sins and that you’ve received Him as your Lord and Saviour. In order to do that, you’ll first need to be CONVICTED by the Holy Spirit that you are indeed a guilty sinner.

Confess any known sin in your life. Confession means to own it, to acknowledge that it was you, that you are guilty of sin. It’s like a prisoner standing before a judge and he asks the person in the dock, “How do you plead?”, when you’re ready to confess your sins you’ll respond to the Judge of the Universe, “Guilty as charged your Honour”… If you are not convinced you are a sinner, then GOOGLE the Ten Commandment; you’ll soon see your guilty heart. They are like looking into a mirror, they reflect the condition of your heart. Those commandments of God, not suggestions, are still applicable today. God has not changed, His standards of Holiness will always be the same.

In our Baptism service, the candidate is asked, “Do you turn from sin?” and “Do you repent of your sins?” and “Do you renounce sin?” These questions reflect a willingness to let go of sins hold on your life. But please note, it doesn’t mean you have the ability in your own strength not to sin again, it’s just a willingness to let go of sin. You will get the POWER to say “No” to sin once you’ve received your Immanuel, God with you, He’ll come into your life in the power of the Holy Spirit and He’ll enable you to live righteously in holiness of life. Remember what Jesus promised the Holy Spirit will do;

John 16:8 (NIV) The Promise of Holy Spirit Conviction. “When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:…”

The Holy Spirit will show you your guilt, that you are a sinner, that you are not righteous enough and that one day the LORD is going to judge you.

How will you plead today?

If you died right now, and appeared before God, what would you say when He asks you, “How do you plead, have you ever sinned? Have you ever broken one of My Commandments?”

Like the rest of us, like every sinful soul on earth, you’d have to say, “Lord, You know all things, You know that I’ve sinned”… However, if you have received Jesus as Lord and Saviour, then all your sins will be washed away, you’ll be clean, your conscience will be clear and you’ll approach the Throne of Judgement with boldness, knowing that you are a forgiven sinner who’s been washed in the blood of God’s Holy Lamb. If you’ve believed, repented, renounced sin and received Jesus as Lord then you’ll already have been made into a Saint by Jesus Christ, the Bible calls that SANCTIFICATION (Being made into a saint, by trusting in Christ).

I’m writing all of this today, because I want every reader to know and experience their own Immanuel moment, that time when you purposefully turn from sin and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.

So I’m Praying:

  • I’m praying that everyone I know and love will come to Jesus and experience Immanuel for themselves.
  • I’m praying that Holy Spirit will give them a soft heart to be open to God.
  • I’m praying that He will convict them of their sinful condition.
  • I’m praying that He will show them there is a judgement to come.
  • I’m praying that He will reveal to them, the way of Salvation.
  • I’m praying that He will show them the life of Holiness is a joy filled life.
  • I’m praying that He will give them a desire for freedom.
  • I’m praying that He will give them a hunger that this world cannot satisfy.

Father I’m praying all these prayers for those that You love and that I love in the Name of your Son, my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen!

And I am full of faith, expectancy and sure and certain HOPE that You will answer my prayer Father, because I’m believing Jesus’ promises.

John 16:24 (NIV) “Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” Amen!

Have an awesome Tuesday my friends,

Join me in praying for all those who are grieving because of that plane crash in Brazil.

Stay close to Jesus and experience your own Immanuel,

When the Gospel Becomes Good News

when the Gospel become Good News

Daily Spirit & Word: 787: When The Gospel Becomes Good News.

The Grinding Power of Sin.

Slaves Set Free:

Romans 6:19-22 (NIV)
19  I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.
20  When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness.
21  What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!
22  But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.

Good morning my friends, it was a good night of witnessing on the Streets of West Norwood last night. We gave out a few tracts, but after just a couple of minutes were were into a wonderful Gospel conversation with a lovely young couple from Madeira (Portugal). Last night I teamed up with Judy (Ben’s wife) and we just got chatting by given the couple a Million Pound Note (One of our little Gospel Tracts). I asked the young man, “If it was real, what would you do with it?” He answered, “I’d return to Portugal”. And the woman said, “I’d return to Madeira”. I said, “WOW, that’s really interesting, why Madeira?” They said, “Life in Madeira compared to London is like heaven”. I said, “Here’s what we’re about tonight, do you believe in Heaven?” They both said, “Not really, we don’t think about Heaven as a place”… I said, “Do you believe in God?” They answered “No, not really”… I was intrigued and asked a few more questions about their beliefs. It turns out, they both had to attend religious education in Madeira until they were twelve, that was the tradition in Madeira. They attended church, but as soon as they were twelve years old they were free from the burdens of religious observance.

So I opened up the ‘Spiritual’ conversation again with, “Madeira is reputed to have some of the oldest people on the planet, some people live to well into their hundreds.” The woman, Tatiana, knew a woman who’d died at 119 years old. I continued, “If you live to 120 years, then you die, if Heaven is real, where will you go? Heaven or Hell?” They both stated, “Well I’m a good person, so if heaven is real, I’ll definitely go there”. It’s amazing, because we know from experience that most people believe what Tatiana and Pedro do, that ‘good people’ go to heaven and bad people go to hell. Also, that most people believe they are the good ones, and if Heaven is real they will be good enough.

I asked, “We’ve got a little test that shows you immediately if you’d be good enough for Heaven” I gave them both one of our Ten Commandment Coins. They took it and said, “WOW this is nice”… I said, “You can keep it, it’s yours. Now the Ten Commandments are like a mirror, they show a person the condition of their soul on the inside.” They both remembered the Ten Commandments from their childhood teachings. I asked both of them, “The Commandments say, ‘Don’t tell lies’, Have you ever told a lie?” They both admitted readily that they’d told lies. We got into a conversation about lying, and agreed that almost everybody has told at least one lie, even me and Judy 🙂 But they didn’t see the seriousness of lying. I asked, “How many lies do I have to tell to become a Liar?” They said, “Just one”. “That’s right” I said, “It only takes one lie to make a person a liar, but did you know that just one lie will keep you out of heaven for all eternity?” They said, “Then nobody is going to be in Heaven”… (Isn’t that sobering? The fact that nobody will go to heaven if they died in their sins?”)

Here’s the next one; “Have you ever stolen anything?” They both said, “When we were kids”, but then went onto admit they’d also taken things that didn’t belong to them as adults. Pedro had nicked from his mother’s purse. Tatiana had stolen music on the internet. However, neither of them saw the seriousness of their crime before God, yet 🙂  I said, “Are you aware the Bible teaches that no thief can enter into the Kingdom of God?”

Here’s the next one; “Pedro and Tatiana, you’ve both been really honest so far, but have you always honoured your mum and dad?” Family honour is very important in Portugal, they both said, “We’d never dishonour our mum and dad, but I took them back over the commands they’d already admitted and said, “Stealing and lying to your mum and dad, that’s dishonourable don’t you think?” They both nodded in shame. But the Bible teaches that when we dishonour our mum and dad, we’re cut off from the Kingdom forever.

So I asked, “That’s just three of the commandments, if God were to Judge you by that standard, would you go to Heaven or Hell?” They said, “Hell”… Then we got into a conversation about the after-life again and what they really believed. I brought it back after a few minutes, “but suppose it is real, Heaven and Hell, wouldn’t you want to make sure you’d be on your way to Heaven? You see Pedro and Tatiana, God doesn’t want to send a single soul to Hell forever, He did something 2000 years ago to give people the chance of going to Heaven, do you know what that was?”. They didn’t know, so I asked, “Have you heard about Jesus?” They both clicked, “Jesus was God come down to Earth to show us how to live a good life”… Then I asked, “How did Jesus die?” It was like turning a light on in a dark room. Pedro and Tatiana said, “He died for our sins”… “It’s not enough to know that Jesus died for sins” I explained, “To get forgiven and cleansed from our sins so that we’ll be fit for heaven, we’ll need to do something, do you know what that is?” They both said, “Repent and ask for forgiveness”… I said, “Yes that’s right, but there’s more. Everyone need to believe and trust in Jesus Christ, receive Him as Lord (Boss of their life), and ask for forgiveness, trusting that Jesus died for their own sins. Does that make sense to you?”

I asked them, (they both work in the Catering industry), if you took a delivery of chicken and one piece of chicken was rotten, would you put it in the fridge beside the good chicken?” They both said, “No, we’d throw it out,” I asked, “Why? Why would you throw out that rotten piece of chicken?” They said, “Because it would contaminate the rest of the chicken”. I explained, “That’s exactly why God will not let anyone who dies in their sins; lying, stealing etc into His Holy Heaven, because our sins would contaminate His Holy Heaven”… They both said, “Then nobody is going to Heaven”… I said, “That’s right, unless they repent and turn in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ, who died for their sins on the Cross and receive Him as their Lord and Saviour”…

You know my friends, Pedro and Tatiana both thanked us last night. We encouraged them to read the Bible and see if what we were telling them was the truth. We asked them to come to church. We said we’d be prepared to meet-up with them again and pray and read the Bible over a coffee. But I encouraged them, “Don’t leave it too long before you turn to Jesus”… They walked away chatting together.

It’s not enough to just proclaim the Gospel, we’ve got to try and help people to understand it, that takes time, love, care, gentleness, humour, but above all boldness to bring the conversation back to the most important topic, their eternal destiny. I thank the Lord for Pedro and Tatiana, will you pray for them, that they’ll both come to the point of receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour? We had a good laugh, but always got back to the seriousness of their spiritual condition. It’s amazing, but once people understand the Gospel, they are either thankful or disturbed. Pedro and Tatiana had never heard the Gospel explained or why Jesus died on the Cross like that before. Can you see the desperate need there is, to take time with folks and love them enough to share Jesus’ message of Good News?

Now, their God given Conscience will go to work, it will do it’s job of showing them their sins again (How? Because the Law of God brings light to the soul, it awakens the Conscience ), the Holy Spirit will use the Gospel to draw them to faith and trust in Jesus Christ.

Some people ask us, “Why don’t you just talk about the love of God and Grace? Why do you keep going on about the Commandments?” Well, if I was to just tell someone they are a sinner without explaining why, they’d be offended. It’s offensive to just say, “We’ve all sinned and fall short of the glory of God” because most people don’t think they have, most people don’t know the seriousness of their sins. We’ve found that about 90% of people think they a good enough for Heaven. So we need to show a person just how serious sin is, before they’ll even consider listening to the Good News. The good news only makes sense when we see the seriousness of our condition without a Saviour.

Here’s the reason why we use the LAW (Ten Commandments) when sharing the Gospel with folks: It awakens the Conscience: “we become conscious of sin”… In other words, we see the seriousness of our sinful condition by opening up God’s law.

Romans 3:19-20 (NIV)
19  Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20  Therefore no-one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.

Charles Spurgeon said: Concerning The Law (Ten Commandments).

  1. The first use of the law is to manifest to man his guilt.

When God intends to save a man, the first thing he does with him is to send the law to him, to show him how guilty, how vile, how ruined he is, and in how dangerous a position. You see that man lying there on the edge of the precipice; he is sound asleep, and just on the perilous verge of the cliff. One single movement, and he will roll over and be broken in pieces on the jagged rocks beneath, and nothing more shall be heard of him. How is he to be saved? What shall be done for him—what shall be done! It is our position; we, too, are lying on the brink of ruin, but we are insensible of it. God, when he begins to save us from such an imminent danger, sendeth his law, which, with a stout kick, rouses us up, makes us open our eyes, we look down on our terrible danger, discover our miseries, and then it is we are in a right position to cry out for salvation, and our salvation comes to us. The law acts with man as the physician does when he takes the film from the eye of the blind. Self-righteous men are blind men, though they think themselves good and excellent. The law takes that film away, and lets them discover how vile they are, and how utterly ruined and condemned if they are to abide under the sentence of the law.

Instead, however, of treating this doctrinally, I shall treat it practically, and come home to each of your consciences. My, hearer, does not the law of God convince you of sin this morning? Under the hand of God’s Spirit does it not make you feel that you have been guilty, that you deserve to be lost, that you have incurred the fierce anger of God? Look ye here, have ye not broken these ten commandments; even in the letter have ye not broken them? Who is there among you who hath always honored his father and mother? Who is there among us who hath always spoken the truth? Have we not sometimes borne false witness against our neighbor? Is there one person here who has not made unto himself another God, and loved himself, or his business, or his friends, more than he has Jehovah, the God of the whole earth? Which of you hath not coveted your neighbour’s house, or his man-servant, or his ox, or his ass? We are all guilty with regard to every letter of the law; we have all of us transgressed the commandments. And if we really understood these commandments, and felt that they condemned us, they would have this useful influence on us of showing us our danger, and so of leading us to fly to Christ. But, my hearers, does not this law condemn you, because even if you should say you have not broken the letter of it, yet you have violated the spirit of it. What, though you have never killed, yet we are told, he that is angry with his brother is a murderer. As a negro said once, “Sir, I thought me no kill—me innocent there; but when I heard that he that hateth his brother is a murderer, then me cry guilty, for me have killed twenty men before breakfast very often, for I have been angry with many of them very often.” This law does not only mean what it says in words, but it has deep things hidden in its bowels. It says, “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” but it means, as Jesus has it, “He that looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” It says, “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain,” it meaneth that we should reverence God in every place, and have his fear before our eyes, and should always pay respect unto his ordinances and evermore walk in his fear and love. Ay, my brethren, surely there is not one here so fool-hardy in self-righteousness as to say, “I am innocent.” The spirit of the law condemns us. And this is its useful property; it humbles us, makes us know we are guilty, and so are we led to receive the Saviour.

We saw that this is exactly right, it happened last night, when we opened up the law with Pedro and Tatiana, they soon stopped trying to justify themselves and wanted to know what they could do to be saved from the consequences of the law.

The Grinding Power Of Sin: Samson was in PRISON:

Judges 16:20-22 (NIV)
20  Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!” He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the LORD had left him.
21  Then the Philistines seized him, gouged out his eyes and took him down to Gaza. Binding him with bronze shackles, they set him to grinding in the prison.
22  But the hair on his head began to grow again after it had been shaved.

He was blinded, bound and made to grind the corn for God’s enemies.

That’s the condition of everyone who lives with sin in their life, until they are set free by the LORD Jesus Christ. Sin blinds, it binds and it makes us grind. Life is worth living to the full, but life like Samson’s is; darkness, slavery and drudgery. Until we’re set free by the LORD Jesus Christ.

The prison is a place of blinding, binding and grinding!

Grinding was considered to be woman’s work, this added to Samson’s humiliation.

Here is the point; Samson was born to be a liberator. He was raised up by God to lead the people of God out of bondage. He was given power so that he might use his energy for the glory of the Lord. But, here is the mighty judge of Israel, blinded, bound and grinding corn for the enemies of God. (Note: That is the power of sin! It will rob you of your power and leave you with nothing with which to serve God. There will be no time, no energy and no interest in the things of God. Your life will be dominated by the grinding power of sin.)

My friends, share the Gospel with the folks you love.

Get full of God’s love and you’ll want to set others free.

Their condition, as Charles Spurgeon has so eloquently put it, is perilous. They are on the cliff-edge, in danger of God’s judgement and hell. If anyone dies in their sins, they’ll receive God’s wrath against sin. Let’s set as many free by going, by showing, by loving them into God’s Kingdom family. Amen!

Be blessed today and stay close to Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen!

The Good Person Test

by their fruits, hell's best kept secret, true and false conversion, faith

Daily Spirit & Word: 751: By Their Fruit.

Is this fruit Poisonous or Edible?

Good morning my friends, how do you know if a fruit is good to eat or if it’s poisonous? Years ago, we had a tree that we were not familiar with in our garden, the fruits were tiny black berries, and they looked delicious, but tasted quite bitter. This was in the days before Google so we had to rely on Microsoft Encyclopedia (Anyone remember that?). It turned out that little black berry was poisonous, so I’m just so glad that I spat it out. It left a bitter taste in my mouth for ages and my tongue dried up. Oh I can even taste it now it was horrible.

How can you tell, quickly, if someone is a Christian?

Well, when out witnessing, we’ll often come across professing believers. They’ll say quite promptly, “I’m a Christian”… I always respond positively when I hear people say that, especially these days. I say, “Praise the LORD a fellow believer”. However, I’ve learned, through years of witnessing on the streets, that not everyone is actually trusting in Jesus. So I’ll ask them about the prospect of Heaven or get them to explain to me the Gospel. Here’s what I’ll say, “What would you say to one of your friends if they want to get into Heaven?” When we do that, we quickly discover what kind of ‘Christian’ a person is, by what they are depending upon for their salvation.

What I find shocking and sad, is that many of the professing believers here in London are shallow soil believers or rocky ground believers, the seed didn’t land in the good soil of their heart. How can we discern that so quickly? Some will obviously say, “Donald, you are just too judgemental”… No my friends, I’m filled with the LOVE of Jesus and He wants all people to trust in HIM for Salvation, not their own efforts to be good enough for heaven. I’m also aware of Jesus’ words of caution:

Matthew 7:15-23 (NIV)
15  “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
16  By their fruit you will recognise them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
17  Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
18  A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
19  Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20  Thus, by their fruit you will recognise them.
21  “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22  Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’
23  Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

He tells us to “Watch OUT” for good reason.

You see my friends, it’s by their FRUIT you’ll recognise them.

Many professing ‘Christians’ are NOT trusting in Jesus, but in their own efforts to be good. The FRUIT of their Salvation is their own goodness, it’s so sad, because they’ll be shocked on the Day of Judgement to discover they are NOT GOOD ENOUGH to get into Heaven. Just one sin will shut the door in their faces.

The FRUIT that our Lord Jesus is talking about here is what a person is trusting in for their Salvation. If they are depending upon their own goodness, then they are NOT trusting in Him or His sacrificial death upon the Cross.

The Sheep’s Clothing: It’s a disguise:

They’ll look and sound like sheep: They’ll bleat like sheep, smell like sheep… but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

A false Prophet: (Someone who professes falsely to have trusted in Jesus) Is someone who knows the language of the sheep, but doesn’t know the Shepherd of the Sheep. They’ll know all about Jesus, they’ll know about His death on the Cross, the Hymns and songs in Church, the prayers, the terminology of the Bible; being born again, forgiveness and love, they’ll even profess to be a Christian. Somehow, they know all that and say all that, but have yet to trust in Jesus Christ for their own salvation.

Here’s how we know quite quickly:

I’ll say those who say they are Christians, “Praise the LORD! That’s amazing, it’s so refreshing to meet another believer, can you please tell me Mary, what do I have to do to get saved?” or “Do you know if you will be good enough to get into Heaven?”

Depending on how they answer they’ll reveal what they are trusting in: Jesus, their own goodness or Good Works.

You know what I find most shocking? The responses we get to those questions from most professing believers. They say, “Just believe in Jesus,” or “I hope so, I try my best, I’m trying to be a good person”… When a person tells me that, immediately my antenna goes up, I’m hoping I’m not detecting a false convert or false prophet, but most often, as we continue to chat, we’ll discover they have yet to trust in Jesus to be SAVED.

It’s so sad and shocking, but the vast majority of the people we meet on the streets of West Norwood in London, who say they are Christians, have never actually trusted in Jesus Christ for their Salvation, but are somehow relying on their own goodness or their efforts to be a ‘good person’. That’s why we say to them, “We’ve got a little test that we do with everyone who tells us they are Christians, to see if they will be good enough for Heaven, would you like to see if you’d get in?”… I’m just so thankful that most of them say, “OK, I’ll take the little test” or “I’d love to do that”….

What’s great is that once we go through that little test, you can physically see a difference in those people, their faces often light up in a new way, they now KNOW the true Gospel, sometimes for the first time in their life, they’ll often say, “WOW, this really is a wake-up-call” or “Thank you so much, you’ve made me see” or “It’s so amazing, I’ve never seen it that way before and I’ve been going to church for years”. We’ve seen a few people cry because they’ve just discovered that they need to put their faith in Jesus, they’ve been trusting in themselves for years, their religious activity, their devotion to going to church, they’ve been trusting in a false Gospel, and are ready to receive Him as Lord. Deep down, most people who’ve been going to church, heard the Bible being read and listened to sermons, know what to do, but have never been led to the point of seeing their need to do it.

So many people know and want the benefits of believers; the Holy Spirit or an EXPERIENCE of power or love in church, they are filled with joy when they go into a lively worship service and think that’s what it means to be saved. They love the friendship, fellowship and feeling of security that going to church gives them. It’s nice to hear warm and loving messages of hope and encouragement. These are all good and right, but it’s such a shame because so many are those sincere and devoted people are the “wolves in sheep’s clothing, the false prophets” that Jesus is talking about. Because they do all of those things and have yet to come to the one who paid the price for their sins.

We’ve gotten to the point of being shocked if someone tells us they are NOT GOOD, but they have trusted in Jesus Christ and His death upon the Cross to forgive their sins, and His blood Sacrifice to cleanse them of their sins, and they now know they are going to Heaven because of His goodness and because they’ve repented of their sins and received Him as their LORD. Sadly, those who say that, are few and far between. Because most are trusting in so many other things, like; church attendance, baptism, speaking in tongues, service in church, taking Holy Communion regularly, reading their Bible, doing good works for charity, casting out demons, raising the dead, etc, etc… These are all great things for believers to be doing, however Jesus will say to them on the day of Judgement “Depart from Me, I never knew you”… Why? Because they failed to repent and trust in Him for their Salvation or they didn’t receive Him as their Lord. Most don’t do that, because they’ve never heard that they need to or they don’t understand why they need to be cleansed of all sin first.

Matthew 7:22-23 (NIV).
22  Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’
23  Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

To get into Heaven, we’ve got to go through the Narrow Gate: and that NARROW GATE is Jesus. Why? Because Salvation is found in NO ONE ELSE, because there is NO OTHER name under Heaven by which a man can be saved. Acts 4:13. John 14:6. Not even your own name, which is what most people are really trusting in, because they are relying on their own goodness.

The Wide and Narrow Gate:

Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV)
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
14  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Oh my friends, how TRUE that verse of Scripture is, “ONLY A FEW FIND IT”...

It’s an eye-opener listening to most church attenders trying to explain how they’d hope to be good enough to get into Heaven. Their version of the Gospel is shocking. Because listening to them telling me their version of the ‘Gospel’: “Just believe in Jesus and you’ll be saved.” they’ll say.

My response is, “Really, is that all I have to do? Just believe in Jesus and I’ll be saved?” “Even Satan believes in Jesus, will he be saved?” Simply knowing about Jesus and believing that He was a real person or that He is Lord is not enough. It’s got to drop those magical 12″, Twelve inches from your head to your heart.

What else do I have to do? That’s when you know their fruit, because they’ll say, “Try your best” or “Be a good person” or “follow the Ten Commandments”…

You know what I’m going to say to a person who tells me these things? “Have you been a good person? Are you following the Ten Commandments? Will you be good enough for Heaven?” Most of them say, “I have, I do, I will, I am”… Then we go through our little test, so see if they’ll be good enough for Heaven.

When they finally admit they’re not good, that they’ll face God’s Holy Justice and be found wanting, they are then ready for the GREATEST NEWS they could ever wish to hear: The Good News of The Gospel of Jesus Christ. It’s so awesome to see their response to the true Gospel message, because God’s been drawing them to this point for years. He’s constantly calling people, by His Holy Spirit to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

Do YOU want to know our LITTLE TEST?

It’s called: “The Good Person Test”

Once a professing believer goes through that test, they suddenly see their need to repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as their Saviour.

Why does the Good Person Test Work?

  • We all know that no one can be saved without coming to Jesus.
  • We all know that no one can come to Jesus, unless the Father, through the Holy Spirit, draws them.
  • We all know that we are SAVED by FAITH.
  • But not many professing believers really know, that FAITH comes by hearing the Good News.
  • or That we cannot HEAR the Good News until we know what the BAD NEWS is.

The BAD NEWS is this: We cannot be saved without; repenting of our sins, turning to Jesus in faith and trusting in Jesus and receiving Him as Lord.

  • If we’re not trusting in Jesus for our Salvation, then we are STILL in our sins.
  • If we’ve not trusted in Jesus, then we are headed for God’s Justice, Judgement and Hell.
  • Sin is going our way instead of God’s way: It’s breaking His Commandments.
  • The penalty for sin is DEATH: The wages of Sin is DEATH.

So we all need to TAKE: “The Good Person Test”

(Click the Good Person Test: At the bottom of the page).

Then we’ll KNOW where we are headed on the day of Judgement.

God wants ALL PEOPLE to be saved: but Jesus tells us so clearly in Matthew’s Gospel.

Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV)
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
14  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

We get one life, then we face God’s judgement.

Conclusion: Jesus Said:

Matthew 7:15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves”.

Jesus said, “Watch out”… That means be alert, have your antenna ready, get your detectors up.

Jesus said, “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.”

Inwardly, they are wolves in sheep’s clothing. If they are NOT ONE OF JESUS’ SHEEP, then they are a wolf.

Jesus is telling those who are following Him to “WATCH OUT” for good reason that there will always be ‘false converts’ who love the name or title of ‘Christian’, but don’t know Him as Lord and Saviour. They’ll be mixing amongst the flock, looking, bleating, smelling and sounding like sheep, but don’t know the Shepherd of the Sheep.

My friends, have you come to see that it’s only through Jesus that you’ll be saved on the day of Judgement?

Have you gotten to the point of Repenting of your sins and Trusting in Jesus to be saved?

If you are a true follower of Jesus, then you’ll rejoice in this teaching today. Because to know the TRUTH sets us free. It enables us to serve Jesus and be alert and lead people to a true faith and trust in Him.

Here’s how you can do trust in Jesus Christ today:

“Oh Lord Jesus, I’ve been singing the songs of the church, but today I can see that I’ve failed the Good Person Test, I know that you alone are the only one that’s ever been good enough for Heaven. And that I’ve got to come to You, the Narrow Gate, to be saved. I believe that You died upon the Cross to take away my sins, it’s Your blood that will cleanse me from my sin. I want to trust in You alone for my own Salvation Lord. I receive You Jesus as my Lord, come into my life, give me the promised New Life and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Amen”

Helping The BLIND to SEE and The Deaf to HEAR

The Blind and Deaf need our Compassion and Kindness, a miracle so they can see and hear their NEED of Jesus Christ

Daily Spirit & Word: 734: The FISHERMAN’S MIRACLE.

When The Fish Jump INTO the Boat.

How does SIN Separate Mankind from God?

People are BLIND = Cannot immediately see their need of Jesus.

People are DEAF = Cannot HEAR when you tell them the Good News.

Need to be shown HOW they’ve become SEPARATED from God.

Good morning my friends, we’ve got a wonderful thing happens once a month in West Norwood: The West Norwood Feast. It’s a GOLDEN Opportunity for us as Christians, to build significant and purposeful relationships with our community. We’ve been commanded by the LORD himself to GO into the world to share the good news, that’s brilliant and so many of us are being obedient to that command here in St Luke’s, in many different ways. However, once a month we don’t really need to go out and go fishing, because it’s like the FISHERMAN’S MIRACLE, the fish are jumping into the boat, i.e. The Community is coming to us.

When we don't need to go fishing
Fish Jump into The Boat

A TRUTH We’ve Discovered:

94% of people want to go to Heaven.

How have we discovered this TRUTH? Because every week we go out into the streets and engage with people who don’t go to church, and we ask this question: “Do you believe in Heaven?”

Another TRUTH:

They want to go to Heaven on their own terms, i.e. without the NEED of being religious.

How do we know? Because we ask them, “Do you think you’ll get into Heaven when you die?”

Again 100% of people, who believe in heaven, HOPE they’ll get in, and 94% think they’ll be good enough for heaven.

Most say things like this:

  • “You don’t need to go to church to be a “good” person.”
  • “You don’t need to be a religious person to get into Heaven, you just need to be good”.
  • “If there is a God, then He’d be a good God and let people into Heaven”.

This my friends, is the ‘religion’ of the vast majority of people in the world.

They believe in a god that will let anyone into heaven, regardless of how they’ve lived their lives, because most of the time, they’ve been good, i.e. Their good deeds outweigh their bad deeds. So they’ll be good enough for heaven when they die.

They don’t know it, but in believing this, they’ve broken the Second Commandment: They’ve made a god to suit themselves, which is Idolatry. Because their god is not the God of the Bible: It’s a world-wide man-made god. Their god is tollerant of sin and will allow the sinful to get into Heaven. However, we know that they don’t know or understand that God is Holy, Righteous and Good.

My friends, most people don’t know or understand this truth; “How sin actually separates mankind from God”. (or more pointedly, how their own sin has separated them from God forever and forfeited all hope of heaven).

They are convinced of their own goodness in God’s sight. It’s like they are wearing: Dark Glasses and Sound Excluding Headphones. (i.e. they won’t see and can’t hear: The Bible says, they are BLIND and DEAF: DEAD in their transgressions and sins).

So like the miracle of the BLIND man being healed and the DEAF man being able to hear, we need a way to ENABLE them to see and hear this truth.

First: Let’s Check Your Own Compassion Level:

You are out having a picnic at Beachy Head: (Beautiful White Cliffs & Lovely Green Grass): You are sitting eating your sandwiches and drinking your juice. You notice a BLIND MAN: He’s walking along towards the edge of the cliff tops, tapping his white stick. Oh and by the way, he’s wearing PINK Headphones.

If you were watching a Blind Man walking along with big pink headphones on his head, tapping his way with a white-stick towards a three hundred foot cliff, blissfully unaware of where he’s heading, what would you do? WHAT WOULD YOU DO? You know that if he keeps going he’s going to tumble over the edge and die. What would you do?

(BTW: Josie Nystrom: Thank’s for being prepared to act this out in church on Sunday: You are a STAR).

That’s right, YOU’VE GOT COMPASSION, you would run as fast as you could and grab hold of the blind man and stop him in his tracks.

  • Shouting at him wouldn’t work, because he can’t hear you.
  • Showing him the cliff won’t work, because he can’t see the danger.

So you’d just grab hold of him.

Your NORMAL human compassion kicks-in and you act automatically to stop anyone from falling to their death: right?

Firstly: For you to be able to LEAD people to Jesus from today onwards, I’m going to explain what happened in the Garden of Eden. How mankind, because of Adam’s sin, got separated from God, and remained separated until God came down to the Earth in Jesus and made it possible for us to come back into Heaven (Paradise, The Garden of Eden)  and be with Him again.

Secondly, God has given us a WAY to GRAB PEOPLE: Hold them and show them their DANGER.

Thirdly: Have COMPASSION: Remember, they are BLIND and DEAF: The People of this World who don’t know Jesus Christ as Lord: They can’t see and they can’t hear so they don’t KNOW the Danger they are in.

We KNOW that if they were to die in their sins, they’d face God on Judgement day and be sent to Hell.

Surely we’ve got the same kind of COMPASSION for the lost souls of this world as we have for a blind man walking towards the edge of a cliff?

Listen to your NORMAL Human Compassion and think about their ETERNAL Destiny.

The GARDEN of Eden Explained:

(How SIN Separates Mankind from God).

To Demonstrate: I need: an Adam, an Eve, God and the Serpent (Devil). (Demonstrate Physically). A fruit tree and an apple (piece of fruit). Light Sabre: Flaming Sword. & Jesus. An Cherub and someone to be Jesus.

Read Genesis Chapter 3. Genesis 3.

(Act it out: Demonstrate HOW Mankind Got Separated From God).

  • God said, “Don’t touch or eat or you will die”:
  • Eve was tempted first, then gave some to Adam.
  • They hid themselves, because they KNEW they were NAKED.
  • God came looking for them. (He knew what they’d done, but wanted to confront them with the truth).
  • Eve blamed the Serpent (Satan).
  • Adam blamed both God and his wife.
  • God banished them all from the Garden of Eden.
  • Put flaming swords in the way… (Question: Why did God put a flaming sword between mankind and Eden? Answer: Because man wants to get Eternal Life without going to God).

What is SIN?

1 John 3:4 (NIV) “Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.”

Another translation of the Greek says; “Sin is TRANSGRESSION of The Law”…

The LAW spoken of in the verse above is The Commandments of God. When we sin we break God’s Law. The punishment for breaking God’s law is DEATH and Banishment from God’s presence or access to the tree of life. (Example: See Adam and Eve in Genesis 3)…

What Is The Punishment For SIN?

The Bible tells us: “The soul that sins it shall die” Ezekiel 18:20.

And: “The Wages of sin is DEATH”… Romans 6:23.

A person who sins is acting as if there are no commandments, i.e. without any laws. Or as if God has not said that it’s wrong.

This is a perfect picture of what life is getting like in our world today, people doing whatever they like, as if there is no moral law against it or as if God had not declared in the Commandments: You shall not steal, you shall not lie, you shall not covet, you shall not….

When Adam sinned the whole human race became infected with SIN. It’s in our blood, our nature and our character. We sin from early years all the way through our life. Every day we sin in some way. In our natural born state as human beings, we are sinful. King David said, “I was sinful from birth”… When was the first time in your own life that you became aware of your own sinful condition? For me it was when my brother and I stole some lead. We both knew we were doing wrong, then it was stealing sweets from Woolworths. When we stole those sweets we blamed Woolworths for making it so tempting, by putting them right next to the exit doors. Just because we were tempted to steal, it was our own greed that was driving us, not Woolworths placement of those sweets. One act of stealing, in God’s eyes, makes me and my brother into thieves. We are guilty of stealing. The punishment for sin: is death, because we’re guilty of offending God, not Woolworths. Whenever we sin, our conscience is crying out to us to STOP: But we ignore our own, God given, Conscience. Over time, with repeated offences the conscience gets quieter and quieter until it becomes almost undetectable by our soul. It’s like our conscience becomes seared or dies. However, a miracle can happen, we can have our conscience re-awakened and revived, by Hearing God’s LAW. Suddenly when we hear the Ten Commandments the Conscience comes back to life again and warns us of the impending dangers of our sinful actions, thoughts and choices.

What’s The Cure For SIN?

God came down in Jesus to rescue us from Satan, Sin and Death, Eternal Separation from God in Hell. (Hell is God’s place of banishment for rebellion against Him. Away from God’s presence for all eternity is going to be terrible, all you need to do to know what it’s like is read or listen to the words of Jesus on the subject).

  • But BECAUSE of HIS LOVE: God so loved everyone in the world, He doesn’t want a single soul to perish forever in Hell. So that’s why Jesus came to die in our place upon the Cross.
  • Forgiveness for our sinful rebellion is possible. It’s free for us, but it cost God dearly.

Question: How can we GRAB HOLD of the Blind and Deaf?

  • They can’t see.
  • They won’t hear.

Satan has both blinded them and made them deaf to the Gospel. (i.e. those who’ve never repented and trusted in Jesus).

2 Corinthians 4:3-5 (NIV) They Can’t SEE.
3  And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. (They are Blind)
4  The god of this age (Satan) has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
5  For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.

Matthew 13:14-15 (NIV) They Can’t SEE or HEAR.
14  In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: ” ‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. 15  For this people’s heart has become calloused (hard); they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn (Repent), and I would heal (Forgive and Cleanse) them.’

Thankfully God has given us a WAY:

It is POSSIBLE: To open blind eyes and unblock deaf ears.

With two great tools: To open eyes, unblock ears and in the process to soften hard-hearts.

1) The Conscience: God given moral compass. (Some people’s conscience is dead, but we can bring it back to life again).

2) The Commandments: God has written these upon their hearts. (They KNOW the truth deep down inside their souls).

With these two great Spiritual weapons, we can enable the blind unbeliever to see and the deaf rebel to hear. We can grab hold of them and stop them falling over the deadly cliff of death into the pit of eternal Hell.

Their own Conscience will bear witness to the TRUTH within their hearts. It will do so long after we’ve finished talking with them. Because, with the help of the Holy Spirit (Who’s job it is to bring conviction of sin), they’ll be brought out of the darkness into the light of understanding.

John 16:8 (NIV) “When he (Holy Spirit) comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:”

Only the Holy Spirit can bring conviction of sin. All we have to do is get people’s hearts ready for the Holy Spirit to do His work. He’s already bringing conviction upon many people in the world today, because you’ll have been praying for them before you even go and speak to them.

God has chosen you and me, those who believe in Jesus Christ, to work with Him (Holy Spirit) in bringing the world to faith and trust in Jesus Christ.

Here’s HOW Jesus did it: It’s called THE WAY OF THE MASTER.

(Practically Grabbing Hold of the Blind and Deaf Before they fall into Eternity).

Here is explained HOW to use God’s two great tools to bring people out of the darkness into the light.

Start where people are: That’s what Jesus did.

They (most of them) all want to go to Heaven.

Ask them, “Are you or Do you think you are good enough for heaven?”

Most will think they are or hope they are good enough.

Ask, “Have you heard of God’s Ten Commandments?” Even if they haven’t heard them, they are written upon their hearts anyway, so their conscience will remind them.

Ask, “Do you think you’ve kept those Commandments?”… Most think they have.

Begin by asking, “Have you ever told a lie?” Explain that a liar can’t get into Heaven.

Then proceed through all Ten (if you need to). Most times you won’t need to go through all TEN of the Commandments, because you’ll notice that the Holy Spirit is working on their souls, their conscience also bearing witness. When they stop trying to justify themselves, you’ll know they are ready for the GRACE of the Gospel: The Good News of Jesus Christ.

NOTE: The Old Time Preachers: The Apostles, Jesus Christ, George Whitefield, Charles Wesley, Spurgeon, Moody, J.C. Ryle, etc: all called the COMMANDMENTS (The Law) the preparation of a soul for the Gospel. The preaching of the Law opens up a heart, ploughs the hard soil-hearers, and gets ready for the seed of the Gospel to be planted.

Once you’ve explained the Commandments, and God’s Holy Standards of Righteousness, you don’t need to spend very long at all on the Gospel. The GOOD NEWS.

It’s like a good doctor explaining a patient’s need for treatment. He won’t spend very long on the cure, because once he’s explained the symptoms and what will happen if the patient is not treated, they’ll be ready for the cure. “Give it to me, please, Doctor. Give me the cure…”…

When you are like a good doctor and explain the patient’s need for a cure, then I’m sure you are going to see many of those fishes jumping into the boat all by themselves 🙂 Once they know the danger they are in, they’ll jump into the net of Salvation.

The CURE for Sin’s Curse: Death and Hell: New Life and Heaven.

Jesus came and died in their place upon the Cross, so they don’t need to go to their death with their sins still on them, they can be forgiven, cleansed and given a new life, if they will believe in Jesus, trust that His death was for them, turn in repentance (forsaking sin) and receive Him as their Lord and Saviour. (SEE The GOOD NEWS of Jesus Christ).

Here in West Norwood in London, we’ve been given a Golden Opportunity, when the World comes to us once a month for the FEAST, let’s be focused and be ready to make the most of God’s amazing golden opportunities, and build significant relationships with those He is already drawing into His Kingdom Family. With His help and tools we can open up blind eyes and deaf ears.

Be strategic, look for the people who’s hearts He’s already softening:

  • They’ll be the ones He’s drawing to Himself,
  • They’ll be open to hearing the Good News about Jesus.
  • They’ll be ready to discover a new way of living.
  • They’ll be frustrated with their life so far.
  • They’ll be aware they can’t live-up to their own standards.
  • They’ll be being convicted by the Holy Spirit of their need of Jesus.

They may not be instantly ready to repent, because it may take several times to hear God’s good news and the whole Gospel, but there will be AN OPENNESS. Remember how stubborn you were, before you finally repented and trusted in Jesus Christ? It took a while to convince you of your own need of a Saviour, so don’t ever give up on someone, keep praying for your loved ones every day. God cares more about their eternal welfare than you do, He’s patient, because He doesn’t want a single human soul to perish in Hell. (2 Peter 3:9).

Remember: Adam and Eve, they show us how the great divide happened, how mankind’s relationship with God was broken, and in Jesus Christ, God’s Son, we find the cure for man’s sinful rebellion, sin, wickedness and waywardness. Like the compassion we have for the Blind Man, let’s be filled with the same compassion as our Lord Jesus Christ has and go out and save those He’s calling into His Kingdom family. Amen!

The People of this World need our COMPASSION not our CONDEMNATION.

Have a wonderful week, keep fishing for men and women.

Remember to have compassion because they are blind and deaf; don’t shout at them they can’t hear you, don’t try and show them, because they can’t see their need of Jesus yet, but rescue them and with the tools God has provided to open blind eyes and unblock deaf ears; Their Conscience and His Commandments, and the Holy Spirit working on their souls, together let’s make them aware of their spiritual condition: let’s go fishing for souls in the sea of life. Hopefully, with God’s help, we’ll be able to catch a few fish before we’re taken back into our Eternal dwelling place. Amen!

Jesus said, “I will make you fishers of men” Matthew 4:19 and Mark 1:17… i.e. When we come to Jesus, He makes us want to catch fish.

“If you don’t want other people to be saved, then you are NOT saved yourself. Be certain of that.” Charles Spurgeon.

The people of this world need our compassion not our condemnation.

They are Blind and Deaf: But you can, with God’s tools and help, open up their EYES and EARS…

Be blessed in Jesus,

The People of this world are BLIND and DEAF: S.O.S….

They need our compassion and kindness, to be shown their need of a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. They are headed for a fall into Eternity, so let’s get the same kind of compassion as Jesus Christ has, and save some souls. There is an S.O.S. but they don’t know their danger, because if they did they’d cry out “S.O.S” … “Save Our Souls”…

How to remain in Christ’s Love

Contending for the faith once for all entrusted to the saints

Daily Spirit & Word: 703: Jude’s Encouragements.

Build Yourselves Up In Your Most Holy Faith.

How to Remain in Christ’s Love.

Good morning my friends, I enjoyed a wonderful day off yesterday in the garden pulling up blackberry brambles that had spread like wildfire, creeping into the cracks of a rockery that once contained a pond. It’s amazing how the weeds spread and do so much damage. Last year I couldn’t do much in the garden because of a sore back, but now I’m almost free from pain, it’s an amazing joy to be able to be active again. Yet I’m surprised by just how invasive the weeds in London are.

Jude 1:20-21
20  But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.
21  Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

As I read through Jude this morning, I could almost physically hear the Lord Jesus Christ in my head, saying, “Remain in My Love”

  • Where did Jesus say that?
  • What did He mean?
  • What does Jude mean? “Keep yourselves in God’s love”

Jesus said it: In His Awesome Teaching On the Vine and Branches.

John 15:7-16
7  If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.
8  This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
9  “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.
10  If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love.
11  I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
12  My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
13  Greater love has no-one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
14  You are my friends if you do what I command.
15  I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
16  You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.

Jude epistle (God’s Word) wants us to know that we must “REMAIN” in the Love of Jesus Christ. That we must keep building ourselves up in the most holy faith.

He starts his letter by reminding those to whom he’s writing that we’re in a BATTLE, there is CONTENTION about what “THE FAITH” is. Many have entered into Christ’s members and twisted the pure Gospel that was once delivered to the saints.

It’s not over church decoration, pew placement, chair arrangement, the worship band singing too loud or too quiet. Nor is it the latest whole church campaign, but it is a real CONTENTION about the faith that has been handed down and entrusted to us from the Apostles and our Lord Jesus Christ. We really must keep up the battle, when we see error we must expose it, because so many youngsters in the faith are being drawn away and enticed into false Gospels. Remembering of course that our battle is NOT against flesh and blood, i.e. not people, but against spiritual forces of evil.

Jude 1:3 “Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.”

The Faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.

We have been entrusted with the Glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ.

It’s our most holy duty to preserve the whole Gospel and to CONTEND for this faith entrusted to our care.

We see the Gospel being partially delivered in the media.

A partial Gospel is a watering down of the full Gospel message.

Even our Prime Minister says quite openly “Britain is a Christian Country”… but his government is the first in history to want to monitor, control and dictate what we are teaching in our Sunday Schools, enlisting OFSTED to ensure that we’re NOT radicalising youngsters. He wants us to promote British Values: but many of Britain’s Values are not “Christian” or “Biblical” values.

For instance: forcing mothers who’ve got young children back into work. Who’s the best person to be looking after infants? I believe with all my heart that it’s not pre-schools, but their own mothers. Yes toddler groups are great for encouraging youngsters to mix and learn to be sociable, but pre-schools? No, I believe mothers not nurseries are best for our infants. They need the love that only a mother can give. We should be encouraging parents and supporting them in bringing up their own children.

Benefits Cuts: This government has given TAX BREAKS to those who are the richest in society, and cut the benefits that the poorest people receive. They want to force people into work, but we’ve known countless numbers of people who are practically unemployable because of their mental condition or social circumstances, who’ve been sanctioned and had their benefits stopped all together. British Values????

Bombing Syria: IS: The UK Governments (British Values) voted to bomb Syria. But Jesus did not say, “Bomb your enemies” He said, “Love your enemies, do good to those that hate you”. ISIS definitely hate everything that the UK stands for, but we’re to LOVE our enemies. Show them Christ’s LOVE not weapons of war. I know it hard, but that’s what we’re called upon by Jesus to do. British Values??? Let’s LOVE each other as Jesus has loved us and gave His life for us.

  • Christian values: Parents bring up your children in the ways of the Lord.
  • Christian values: feed the poor, love your enemy, do good to those that hate you, look after widows and orphans.
  • There is a BATTLE going on for the “Faith once and for all time entrusted to the saints”..

BTW: Those “saints” in Jude’s letter are not those who’ve died and been made saints by the Roman Catholic Church, but every single Christian who’s been set free from sin by the Lord Jesus Christ. It’s you and me, if you’ve trusted Christ as your Lord and received Him as your Saviour: You are the SAINT to whom Jude is writing.

What is that FAITH we’re to CONTEND for?

Jesus tells us clearly in John 15:16 “I chose you and appointed you”

When you became a Christian it wasn’t your idea to follow Jesus. It was because Jesus was already, by the Holy Spirit, drawing you to Himself. He chose you to become a believer, a follower and a disciple.

It was the LORD’s initiative that brought you to trust: That Jesus died upon the Cross for the sins of all mankind, because of God’s love, He rose again from the dead and now reigns in Heaven. He’s calling all people to REPENT and receive forgiveness for their sins, so that they can escape the judgement that coming. They’ll be SAVED from Hell if they repent and trust the ONLY Saviour of Mankind.

When Jesus chose you to become a Christian, His desire and our Heavenly Father’s desire, is that you BE FRUITFUL in your walk with Him.

How are we going to be “Fruitful”?

By remaining in His love… John 15:8-10…

How do we “remain in His love”?

By being obedient to His Commands. The Commands of Jesus Christ. John 15:10.

How do we know Jesus Commands?

By reading and understanding the WORD of God, by hearing the Word of God and by DOING the Word of God.

That is HOW we do what Jude is calling us to do:

Jude 1:20-21
20  But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.
21  Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

We keep ourselves in God’s love and build ourselves up in the most holy faith, by praying in the Holy Spirit, obeying Christ’s commands in Scripture and wait for our Eternal life that He’s promised to all who live for Him.

  • Saints, we need to be in God’s WORD ourselves.
  • We need to gather together around God’s Word: To study it together (Discipleship).
  • We need to keep listening to Preachers who really do LOVE God’s Word and Jesus Christ as their LORD and Saviour.
  • We need to keep doing what God’s Word tells us.
  • That way we will build up our faith.
  • That’s the way we’re going to remain in Christ’s love.

When we do all of these things, then our Love for Jesus will grow stronger.

When we do all of these things, then our Love for our fellow saints in Christ will be enriched.

What did I learn on my day-off yesterday?

The Brambles will grow when we’re not looking.

The Weeds will spread, when not attended.

False Gospels and wrong teaching will creep into the church if we are not contending for the faith.

Jesus wants me to Contend for the faith once for all entrusted to the saints.

It’s a never ending battle to maintain the pure holy Gospel faith that has been entrusted to us, the Saints in Jesus Christ, we need to REMAIN IN CHRIST’S LOVE and keep building ourselves up in the most holy faith. We’ll be fruitful when we’re being obedient to Christ’s commands.

Keep going for Jesus my friends,

Contend for the pure Gospel once for all delivered and entrusted to the Saints: You are those Saints.

Have a glorious weekend.

Tomorrow’s Teaching: Do you know how much of a friend we have in Jesus?

John 11:49-52 (NIV)
49  Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, “You know nothing at all!
50  You do not realise that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.”
51  He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation,
52  and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one.

The Precious Ring: Lost and Found.

Obedience to God makes us His family members

Daily Spirit & Word: 673:

The Importance of Jesus Family.

My friends John and Kathy Butler wrote on Facebook yesterday: “We arrived home from a walk at Burrator (Burrator Reservoir on Dartmoor in Devon) with the grandchildren this afternoon when Kathy realised she no longer had her mum’s wedding ring. We drove back to the first of several stops where the children were playing and started to search without any hope.

Kathy found it sitting in a very muddy puddle just near the edge glinting at us!!”

Have you ever come close to loosing something very precious to you?

In this message today we’re going to see three groups of people:

  • The Pharisees: Who hated Jesus and plotted his downfall. Accuse Him of being Possessed by Satan.
  • The Family of Jesus: His mother Mary and his brothers. Moved with genuine concern thinking Jesus was mad.
  • The Crowd in the House: Who were sitting around Jesus, lapping up His teachings.

We’re going to see that how we respond to Jesus is crucially important: Because ONLY those who LOVE Him will be the ones who are SAVED. We’ll know that we LOVE Jesus, if we are being obedient to the Commands of God, they’re no longer commands, but promises for our abundant life.

We’re back with the Gospel of Mark again today:

In previous Chapters Mark has been building a wonderful picture for us about who Jesus is, and why He had come: We’ve seen Him debating with the Pharisees (The Religious Leaders of Jesus time). We’ve noted that He selected 12 out of the many thousands who were following Him, designating them Apostles (Sent ones: to preach, teach, heal and deliver).

Today, we discover that Jesus is in a house, with so many people that it gets impossible for Him to even eat.

Whilst Jesus is busy; healing and teaching, his family arrives, they’ve come to get their precious Son. Also another group of the old adversaries have arrived the Pharisees, they’ve not come to save Jesus, but to condemn Him even more.

Mark 3:20-35 (NIV)
20  Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat.
21  When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”
The Pharisees Arrive:
22  And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebub! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.”
23  So Jesus called them and spoke to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan?
24  If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
25  If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
26  And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come.
27  In fact, no-one can enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can rob his house.
28  I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them.
29  But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin.”
30  He said this because they were saying, “He has an evil spirit.”

The Family Arrives:
31  Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him.
32  A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.”
33  “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.
34  Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!
35  Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”

Beelzebub: Who is Beelzebub?

Beelzebub means Lord of Flies: The god of Ekron. “The Dung God.” Imagine that, they’re accusing Jesus of being filled with the Demons of the Dung god.

The Pharisees are here again 🙂

They’re accusing Jesus of being Demon Possessed.

Jesus knew what they meant (Satan) so he explained it in a Parable to them:

  • Divided Kingdom: We’ve seen it in History: Greece, Rome, (Empires crumble from corruption / division within). A divided KINGDOM cannot stand for very long.
  • Divided House: We’ve all see how families fall out and they don’t stand for long: Kardashians. Earthly families that fall apart. Normally over something small: An inheritance, money, finances, jealousy, anger, arguments, etc… A divided house cannot stand.
  • Divided Person: Satan Opposing Himself: Nah! That’s just dumb. Foolishness of the Pharisees. But we also see this in earthly terms too: a person who’s hell bent on self-destruction: through drink and drugs. Last week I gave the example of Amy Winehouse: Hell bent on self-destruction. She succeeded. Such a sad loss for all who knew her, but ONLY Jesus could have saved Amy Winehouse.

After explaining the parable Jesus turns around their accusation: He’s not filled with a Demon Spirit, but the Holy Spirit and now they are guilty of committing the unpardonable sin: by accusing Jesus of being filled and moved by a Demon Spirit they’re Blaspheming against God the Holy Spirit.

Blasphemy: Blasphemy is a serious sin: “The LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain”

Exodus 20:7 (NIV)  “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.”

Have you ever said; “O God!” or “OMG” or “Jesus Christ”?: When you hurt your toe, couldn’t get parked, stuck in traffic, arguing with someone when you are angry? Even in those situations using God’s Name in any format: It’s still Blasphemy. I don’t believe that if you are filled with the Holy Spirit you’ll ever take God’s name in vain and not know about it, how serious it is. At best, It hurts your relationship with God. At worst it cuts you off from Him if you do it knowingly.

But to Blaspheme against the Holy Spirit is a sin that can never be forgiven. Verse 29.

What does this mean? Blaspheme The Holy Spirit.

It’s to know God and His purposes and yet still be in opposition to Him.

If you’re still feeling guilty for your sin: You are OK.

You love Jesus, but still fail and fall: You are OK.

Your guilty conscience proves there’s room for repentance; and getting right with God again.

However: If you say that you know Jesus: And are Opposed to Him: You are definitely on dangerous ground.

I believe that it’s possible to be forgiven every sin: Apart from this one.

My Friend: A Young Christian: In RN Got home on leave to find his wife had been cheating on him. He Cursed God. Felt that he had committed the unpardonable sin. For over a week he avoided our early morning prayer gatherings. He eventually came back one day, but he was unusually quiet: We were reading Psalm 40 and then we began praying. I was praying in tongues: I looked up and his face was streaming with tears. He burst into tears and let it all out. (Tongues are good sometimes). He confessed to shouting at God. Said some terrible things to Him. He thought God wouldn’t forgive him, he’d been pleading but had no peace. But after coming to prayer and hearing God’s Word: Even though He’d got angry with God. Now he knew that God had forgiven him.

He was hurting: He had believed that once he became a Christian, then everything would be sunshine and roses in his life. Now he finds his wife had cheated on him. He was broken: He was mistakenly convinced that everything in life would be easy now. He cursed God, because he had believed a lie, But he came back to Jesus. Do you want to know what a man on fire is like? From that day on he told everybody about Jesus and many more sailors came to faith. A life forgiven is a life transformed.

The Blasphemy: Against the Holy Spirit: Is KNOWING: Jesus, His Person, His purpose and deciding to oppose Him. It’s going against God’s Holy Spirit.

Being angry with God: Is not the unpardonable sin, but we may still need to repent and ask for His forgiveness.

(Note: The Psalms are full of people who are hurting and shouting out to God about their predicament in life).

Mother’s And Brothers Arrive: Verses 31-35:

They made a mistake: Instead of going in themselves to see Jesus, they send someone else in.

Loosing Something Precious: You’ll go looking for it. Like my friends with the Wedding Ring.

When you are about to loose or have lost someone precious: You’ll move heaven and earth to get them back.

Jesus is precious to His family too: His mother and brothers had come to get him; propelled by love and genuine concern.

They are GENUINELY worried about Him: “People were saying, “He’s lost his mind”, “Your son has gone mad”…. His family were not opposed to Jesus, but were only moved through caring concern: We all know they needn’t have worried. Jesus was OK. But they made a genuine mistake through loving concern.

How many times have we made a mistake about Jesus? Not understanding Him, Not following Him the way He wants us to?

We know from the Bible that Jesus was close to His mother Mary and his borthers; She was there at the Cross as her precious son died. His own brother James becomes a key leader in Jerusalem after Jesus’ death on the Cross. It was only a mistake, but through genuine love.

What Jesus said is surprising: “Who are my mother and brothers?” Verse 33.

Imagine that, what an insult it could have been to his family outside the house that day, but Jesus was teaching the crowd.

He looked around the room: At the people gathered there: and answers his own question: “Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” Verse 35.

You know something my friends, we KNOW that we KNOW Him if we LOVE Him.

You know something else my friends, we KNOW that we LOVE Him if we are living in obedience to God’s will.

Jesus said, “If you truly love me, you will obey my commands”… It’s a PROMISE: You will obey my commands.

Jesus also said, “Come unto me … my yoke is easy (Commands), my burden is light (not difficult)… You’ll want to be obedient to Jesus when you’ve come to Him in faith and received Him as LORD. Only then is the obedient life possible, through the indwelling of God the Holy Spirit, Jesus gives us the POWER to live the loving obedient life.

One more Question:

  • How are you getting on at doing God’s will today?
  • How are you getting on a living the Christian life?
  • Are you living in accordance with the will of God?

OK, I know that’s three questions 🙂

If you are NORMAL: Then there will always be areas in your life that God is working on.

You are always going to be, until the Lord returns, “A Work in Progress”

  • God has made you into a Saint: The moment you trusted Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
  • God is making you more Saintly: Day by Day.

He will finish the good work He began in you. (Philippian 1:6).

Philippians 1:4-6 (NIV)
4  In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy
5  because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,
6  being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

If you LOVE Jesus: You are His FAMILY:

You are very precious to Him.

He said about those who love Him; “I’ll never leave you, nor forsake you”…

Family might abandon you, friends may leave you and let you down, but Jesus never will leave you.

There are THREE Possible Positions to be in regarding Jesus today:

  • Opposition: Like the Pharisees.
  • Mistaken: Like Jesus Family.
  • Family: Like those around about Jesus; who prove they LOVE Him by being obedient to God’s Commands. God’s will.

Which position are you in today?

Have an awesome week my friends.

Stay close to the Vine: John 15

Stay full of God’s Holy Spirit: Ephesians 5:18.

Further Study Today:

Being Filled With God’s Spirit:

God is the God of FREE REFILLS.

I heard about a Clergyman who told his children in McDonald’s they can have only one coke. Because he couldn’t afford to keep paying for a refill. However, on holiday in America you can keep coming back and filling your glass again and again as much as you like.

The Holy Spirit is a bit like that; you get filled with the Holy Spirit once you trust in Jesus, but you need to keep being filled with the Holy Spirit every day.

First things first: you don’t come to Jesus apart from the Holy Spirit. In Titus 3:4-6, we’re told that God “saved us, not because of works done by us… but by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ…” You can’t become a Christian without the Holy Spirit.

And when you become a Christian you don’t receive 2/3 of God, as if the Holy Spirit comes later. 2 Corinthians 1:22 and Ephesians 1:13 tell us that the Holy Spirit seals us and guarantees that we belong to Jesus. When you put your trust in Jesus Christ, the Spirit seals you.

But in Ephesians 5:18, Paul commands the church to “be filled with the Holy Spirit”. The English language doesn’t quite do justice to Paul’s intent here. In the Greek, this command is a present imperative, indicating that this isn’t speaking of a onetime filling, but rather a regular pattern of being filled. So “go on being filled with the Holy Spirit” is more like it.

This makes some of us nervous, but it was normal language in the New Testament. In Luke 4:1, Jesus is described as being “full of the Holy Spirit”. In Acts 4:8, Peter is “filled with the Holy Spirit”. In Acts 9:17, Ananias lays his hands on Saul so that he can be “filled with the Holy Spirit”. Barnabas is described as being “full of the Holy Spirit and faith” in Acts 11:24.

And lest you point out that all these references just mention one person one single time, look at the three separate instances in Acts when the disciples are said to be “filled with the Holy Spirit”. First, in Acts 2:4 they’re “filled…” and begin to speak in tongues. Second, in Acts 4:31 they’re “filled…” again. And then in Acts 13:52 they’re again “filled with the Holy Spirit and with joy”.

Why else would Jesus describe the Holy Spirit as “rivers of living water” (John 7:38) and not a pool? A river is a constant flow whereas a pool is a dormant supply. God reconciles us to himself through Jesus, and by the work of the Holy Spirit, and then longs to continue to fill us and fill us and fill us again. He really is the God of FREE refills, but we NEED Him every single day.

Go on being filled with God, the Holy Spirit today my friends.

Rejoice and Jump for JOY.

Joyful, Jumping for Joy, when persecuted for Jesus

Daily Spirit & Word: Rejoice and Jump For JOY.

“We walk by FAITH, not by sight”.

Have you ever been put-off because of what someone said? Have you stopped sharing Jesus with people? Many followers of Jesus today don’t believe in Evangelism. However, it was Jesus who commanded His followers to go into all the world. “Walk by Faith, not by sight”.

Matthew 5:11-12 (NIV)
11  “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me12  Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Good morning my friends, another awesome evening of Evangelism last night on the streets of West Norwood London. We were joined by a new member of the team, a lady who’s just joined our fellowship called Gwyneth, she teamed-up with me as it was her first time. We go out in twos and share the Gospel with anyone who’ll stop and have a chat.

Last night I was so up for it, but the week before, I was dreading going out, because it’s getting quite cold now in London. However, even though it was freezing last night, people did stop and chat; but most just received a little Gospel tract or a Ten Commandment Coin.

Though we had many conversations; ranging in duration from just a few words or seconds, to ten or fifteen minutes. One that stands out from last night was our last encounter, which was just in front of the Church when we were on our way back to meet up with the rest of the team. The man was standing, looking cold, waiting for his bus. Gwyneth offered him a Ticket to Heaven tract; he refused saying he didn’t believe in forcing ‘religion’ on anyone. He said, “I don’t think it’s right to go around trying to force people into any religion”.

In the past, if someone had said that to me, I’d probably have thanked them and moved on. However, the LORD has encouraged me over the years to be cheeky and ask questions about how people have arrived at their convictions. Thankfully, Gwyneth had obviously learned that lesson too.

I listened and Gwyneth explained, “We’re not out forcing the faith of Jesus, we’re sharing the Good News”… He remained steadfast in his conviction that it was wrong, stated that he was a Christian, and “A ‘real’ Christian keeps his faith private, and goes into his closet and prays secretly to his God.”

I’ve heard that many times before in my lifetime, but mainly from the older generation. I was surprised to be hearing it from a man so young. I said to him, “What do you think about the Disciples and followers of Jesus? They went out into all the world and proclaimed Jesus Gospel of Good News wherever they went?” He said, “I don’t agree with that, they mainly went to private places and shared with people who wanted to listen”. I said, “What about St Paul, who went into Market places and debated in public?” I explained, “Market places are pretty busy with lots of people just out doing business”…

Well, we went to and fro in our conversation like that for a while, until I sensed that it was the time to switch from the natural (argument, reasoning and discussion about ordinary things) to the Spiritual (discussing the Gospel of Jesus). I asked the man, “Do you believe in Heaven?” He said, “I don’t think about that too much, I’m a medical scientist”. Another red-herring was approaching 🙂 I kept him on track, “Eternity has been planted by God in your heart”. He looked at me in the strangest way, “It’s real, Heaven is real and God put it in you to know it’s real, that’s why there are so many religions in the world, everybody knows that this life is not all that there is”.

The man wouldn’t engage, so I switched back to the Natural again: “Do you pray for your patients?” He said, “No, I use science to cure them”. He didn’t think that his god would intervene, his god had given him the capacity to cure and know how to fix things for people.

He said, “I don’t pray, I use science to cure people”

Do you know what he had done? He had made a ‘god’ to suit himself. His god was not the God of the Bible. It was idolatry that He was suffereing from. Whenever you hear someone saying, “My god wouldn’t do this or my ‘god’ wouldn’t do that”, they’ve exchanged the God of the Bible for a convenient god of their own imaginations. It’s the most common form of idolatry that we come across today.

In our conversation, it became so evident that he was worshipping a false god of his own creation, there were so many aspects of Biblical Christianity that were obviously missing from his version of ‘faith’. He’d arrived at convictions and practices that are convenient, easy, un-challenging and unreal. His version of faith meant he could be a secret Christian, who didn’t need to call upon his god, and that Heaven and Hell wasn’t real.

Before we could share the TRUE Gospel with the man, his bus that he was waiting for had arrived. I quickly thanked him for speaking with us and gave him one of our tracts that says, “Thank you for listening”. It’s got a picture of a dog with big ears. It always makes people smile. But on the back it has the Good News of Jesus. I said, “Will you read this when you get home?” He took the tract. I hope and pray that he’ll think deeply about our conversation and that he will read the tract. I believe he will, because he was obviously a deep-thinking man.

The one phrase that I know God planted in his heart last night, that made a deep impact crater upon his soul was, “God has planted eternity in your heart”… His countenance changed when I said that, his mouth stopped for a moment.

The TRUTH has a way of stopping the mouths of unbelievers, but you’ll only see it if you are out doing what Jesus commanded, sharing the Good News.

Ecclesiastes 3:10-11 (NIV)
10  I have seen the burden God has laid on men. 11  He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

God has PLANTED ETERNITY: men, mankind, human beings; we all KNOW that this life is not the end.

God Shuts The MOUTH: Of the Self-Righteous.

Romans 3:17-20 (NIV)
17  and the way of peace they do not know.”
18  “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
19  Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.
20  Therefore no-one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.

It’s amazing when you actually see God doing this to someone, when the TRUTH hits home or lands in their soul in such a powerful way that their mouth goes silent. There’s a physical change that takes place in a person. You can see it hitting home. Praise the LORD!

So, my friends, don’t be put-off when someone says something FALSE about what you are doing for Jesus.

Matthew 5:11-12 (NIV “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12  Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

That “rejoice and be glad” in the verse above: in the Greek of the New Testament it literally means “Leap and jump for joy”… The KJV says “be exceedingly glad”.. It’s amazing, but the LORD puts His deep joy in your heart when you know an attack is coming because you’re walking in obedience with Jesus.

We’re learning, slowly, not to get angry when someone says something false about what we are doing for Jesus. The man last night said, “You shouldn’t force people into religion”. With every lie of Satan, there’s also an element of truth. Of course we shouldn’t force anyone, we can’t make a convert by force. Only the Holy Spirit brings conviction and converts a person. However, by going out and sharing the Good News of Jesus on the streets with people, we’re NOT ‘forcing’ anyone, we’re just being obedient to Jesus command to go. The man made that statement before we’d barely spoken a word to him about Jesus. Of course it was a ‘false’ statement, a lie from Satan, designed to cause us to doubt what we were doing. Thankfully, Gweneth and I were not put-off or dismayed by it for a moment.

Gwyneth and I, and the rest of the team REJOICED last night.

We’d been out sharing the Good News of Jesus. We know that the LORD’S promises hold true;

Isaiah 55:10-12 (NIV)
10  As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11  so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
12  You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

“It shall not return to me void.” God will use the WORD planted in people’s hearts. He will accomplish what He desires. All He requires of us is that we be willing to be obedient to His Command to GO and to SPEAK the Gospel for Him! Amen.

My friends, keep GOING for Jesus.

  • Don’t give up.
  • Don’t be put off.
  • Don’t feel that you’ve failed.
  • Success is not obvious results, but being and living in the obedience that comes from faith.
  • Success in Evangelism is not measured by the number of converts, but by the fact that you’ve gone out and shared the Good News of Jesus Christ with people.
  • Keep LOVING People: They need Jesus, even if they don’t think they do. Their eternal destiny is what matters most to God, not that they are offended by you sharing the Good News with them.

It’s not by sight but by faith that we walk with Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV) “We live by faith, not by sight.”

You might not see results or expected results when you do things for Jesus, but have faith; when you go out in His power, in His Spirit and on His mission; He’s with you, He will accomplish and achieve His purpose. Jesus IS building His Church, so keep sowing the WORD in people’s hearts.

Have an awesome day with Jesus full of His Spirit.

Wondering Why?

War, Famine, Refugees, Injustice, Pain, Hurt, Jesus, Hope, Faith and LOVE

Daily Spirit & Word: 613: Wondering Why?

“He WILL Wipe Away EVERY Tear From Their Eyes”

Good morning everyone, last night was the first real cold evening of the year, with a cold wind, slight drizzle and brooding sky we ventured out to share the Good News on the Streets. Understandably we got into very few lengthy conversations with people, but handed out more tracts than we’ve ever done. However, Sherrie was the one last night who did manage to have a long conversation with a woman who attended the local Roman Catholic church for over 30 years. She was a devout Catholic, but didn’t know the Bible at all, had no assurance of her Salvation, and just trusted in her ‘religion’ to save her. She didn’t know Jesus as Lord or Saviour. It’s such a shame that a person can be fooled into thinking that being ‘religious’ will save them on the day of judgement. Sherrie gently shared the Good News and the woman, who was in a rush to get home initially, stopped for over 20 mins chatting, listening and asking questions.

One thing the Catholic woman said was, “Nobody Knows what Heaven is like, because no one has come back to tell us”.

However, we do have one who came down from Heaven to tell us, not so much what it is like, but to get ready and get right so that we will be able to get into Heaven when we die. Sherrie unpacked that TRUTH for the woman last night.

  • We do not know, but God has promised that one day we will know EVERYTHING.
  • We don’t know why there is so much suffering and harsh treatment of innocent people.
  • We don’t know why there are dictators who care little about their own citizens.
  • We don’t know why men will scheme and go to war to kill thousands with bombs and bullets.
  • We don’t know why the good people suffer, whilst evil people seem to prosper.

However, we do know that one day we will KNOW EVERYTHING.

It’s just that the LORD wants us to trust Him, even though we don’t know everything now.

Not knowing why God allows these things does not mean that He’s lost control or is powerless to do something about it. He does in fact, but we can’t often see the forest for the trees. When we look at the reverse side of a tapestry it just looks like a complete mess, but turn it over and we observe the magnificent beauty of delicately crafted and skilful needlework, but it’s not until we take a few steps back that we see the whole picture and it’s AWESOME. When we get to Heaven, we’re going to see and know what they Lord has been doing all along in Human history. He will be glorified: and we will praise Him for His magnificent beauty of holiness.

When Job had lost everything he had, except his own life, he just knelt down and worshipped the Lord. He declared,

Job 1:18-22
18  While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, “Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, 19  when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”
20  At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship 21  and said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.” 22  In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.

My friends, we don’t KNOW it all just now in this life, but we still worship, trust and praise the LORD. We are not overjoyed about the evil that’s happening, but we can be at PEACE through everything that comes upon us and the people that we love in this world.

1 Corinthians 13:12-13
12  Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13  And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

That’s why there are no real Atheists, because they don’t KNOW everything, to say that there is definitely no God who Created everything is logically flawed, to be able to say that with conviction, you’d have to know everything. But we don’t even know very much about the Earth, not really, we’re just sitting on the top of an iceberg of understanding, we can’t even see what’s beneath the surface, yet. In some place or space in the universe that we don’t know, is there room for the God who could have made it all? Of course there is, because He did: It may seem disorderly and random, but just take a look through the microscope and you’ll observe wonders to behold; order and structure and amazing beauty. You’ll see the fingerprints of God and marvel at the Creative genius behind it all.

We don’t know WHY He allows so much evil to persist upon the earth between human beings, but we can still have; faith, hope and love through life: When we get to the Lord’s side, then we will know fully, even as we are fully known by the Lord.

In the meantime, He’s given us work to do for His Kingdom and Glory: He wants us all to be on His rescue mission, to save as many souls as we can for His Heaven. Let’s just keep at it, for when one soul is saved and delivered from the slavery of sin to the freedom of the Saints, they too will be about the Lord’s work and will be filled with the HOPE of Heaven in their hearts.

There is also so much good we can do to alleviate the suffering and injustice in this world too: We can be an influence for good and for peace. Think about the STREET CHILDREN around the world, they live in constant fear, suffer hunger and incredible injustice. The authorities seem to hate them and they are living with the dread of something happening to them at the hands of evil men. Think about places upon the earth when people are fleeing war or famine or disaster; be filled afresh with God’s compassion and get involved. We can all do something, even if it’s something small, it all helps to spread the good and the LOVE of God.

  • We can pray and seek God’s will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. That’s what Jesus told us to pray for.
  • We can pray and ask for daily bread, not just for ourselves, but for those who don’t have any.
  • We can pray and be part of God’s Healing for people; when you pray and lay your hands upon people in the power of God’s Holy Spirit, miracles can and still do happen for people who don’t even know the Lord yet.

When you weep at the injustice and brutality of evil regimes upon the earth, bring those tears to God and ask for Him to bring His swift justice for the poor and the weak and those who can’t speak for themselves. The Israelites were in bondage in Egypt for over 200 years, then the Lord heard their cries and brought the Ten Plagues upon Egypt. He does things in His own time, but we can and should be crying out to Him. Perhaps He’s just waiting for your prayers today and then He’ll move???? You know my friends, God cares far more about injustice than we do. He loves far more than we do. He is in control of the situation and will move in His own good time: Watch and Pray!

In the meantime we have God’s PROMISES:

Revelation 21:3-8
3  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.
4  He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
5  He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
6  He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.
7  He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
8  But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practise magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulphur. This is the second death.”

Have an awesome Thursday with Jesus.

Stay close, worship Him no matter what you are feeling like today.

Yesterday’s Street Evangelism in Brixton London.

Brixton Street Evangelism, London.

Daily Spirit & Word: 609: Yesterday’s Witnessing.

Romans 10:14-15 (NKJV) How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15  And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

Good morning my friends. We came back rejoicing last night from our little trip to Brixton to share the Good News of Jesus. Brixton really is a melting pot of humanity, with people from every country, creed and colour. It’s amazing how the Lord seems to test us and leaves the best conversations and encounters till the last few moments of our excursions. We’d been out for about 40 minutes, giving out tracts and trying to engage people, but not many wanted to stop and quite a few didn’t take the tracts. After a while, David, my fellow follower of Jesus said, “Shall we go back to Tulse Hill, perhaps we’ll get better results there?” He’d been sworn at, rejected and was feeling slightly oppressed. It was tempting to just call it a day, to give-in or give-up and go back home, but I said, “No, let’s persevere, let’s keep going, let’s keep praising the Lord, I’m sure Satan would want us to give up, let’s ask the Lord to give us good conversations with folks tonight here in Brixton”.

Well, I’m glad to say that it didn’t take very long, because the very next person was a woman on her way back home. We got talking and discovered she was a Christian, who knew the whole Gospel, who’d obviously trusted in the Saviour. But I felt prompted to ask her about her worship. I said, “Where do you meet with other believers?” She said, “Oh, I don’t go to church, I just read the Bible and worship at home”. I felt so sad for her, imagine having no regular place to gather with brothers and sisters in the faith. She shared about her sad experience of ‘church’ and how she felt judged and disheartened and discouraged by the experience. Although the place was lively, full of young students like herself, it was not very loving or ‘Christian’. She’d also back-slidden and her faith was dwindling, until she began to worship at home. We got to know all about her life, how she’d started to stammer more and put that down to a lack of focus upon the Lord and worrying about what people were thinking about her.

She then encouraged us as she related how our meeting was not an accident, because she’d boarded a bus only to discover that she couldn’t find her bus-pass. Then when the bus had gone, she looked in her bag and found it, but decided to walk and then she bumped into us. It was an amazing time of encouraging her to get into fellowship. What was really awesome was she’d been watching some Christian videos on Youtube that we’d also been watching. She knew all about Ray Comfort and the Evangelism School and had started sharing the Gospel with friends and colleagues. She didn’t live far from our Church so we said that she’d be more than welcome to come and join us for worship or at our Discipleship Fellowship. We exchanged telephone numbers and said our goodbyes after a short time of prayer, right there on the busy streets of Brixton.

The next few conversations were with folks who didn’t know the Lord, but each one was significant in moving them from complete unbelief or indifference to thinking seriously about their life, their eternal destiny and purpose in being here on the earth. Each one encouraged to consider the Lord Jesus Christ and what He came to earth to do: To give His life to save sinners from God’s wrath and anger against sin.

What did I learn from last night’s Street Evangelism?

Don’t give up when the going gets tough. Just keep going in the strength of the Holy Spirit. Imagine how God must feel when people reject Him, the Creator of the Universe.

David said, “In one night, we’ve been abused more than any other time, we’ve been encouraged more and I’ve even been treated to a few people who fancied me” We laughed. Because one lady responded “I don’t want your tract, but I’ll take you any day”… LOL.

On our final conversation for the night, a young lady from France whom we’d been chatting to for about ten minutes about the Lord said, “I’ve really enjoyed talking to you guys, you’re nice” Even though we’d been through the whole Gospel and she was not yet ready to respond. We encouraged her to read her Bible and pray. She said with an assured nod, “I will”.

Whilst out sharing, we need to keep focused upon what the Lord is doing, wait patiently for His leading and respond when the right moment comes.

Even though a few people didn’t want to know, there were many more who took tracts with a smile, some were intrigued, other’s questioned and a few were very interested. Stay focused upon the reasons why you are there: we go out to share the good news of Jesus Christ with people who are; blind, walking in darkness, who are trapped and enslaved by sin and Satan. They need the Lord Jesus Christ to set them free, give them hope and fullness of life and the gift of faith and eternal life too. When we know why we’re out, then all the hassles and lack of response don’t matter, we’re reaching out in obedience to the Lord’s Command to go out with God’s love, gentleness, boldness, anointing and peace; praise the LORD for those who do respond and for those we move closer to trusting the Saviour.

Have an awesome Saturday.

Keep Sharing and Keep Praising Jesus.

Matthew 4:16-17 “the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” 17  From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”

Isaiah 9:2 “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”

Proverbs 20:6 (NKJV) “Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, But who can find a faithful man?”

God is Good

The Goodness of God

God is Good.

Good morning my friends, I’m on holiday 🙂

AND I just wanted to share with you something really wonderful;

God is GOOD!

Where in the Bible does it tell us that God is GOOD?

Psalm 145:9  “The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.”

This tells us much more than simply about the goodness of God: He is the CREATOR OF ALL.

HE: is good to EVERYONE (that means the good, the bad and everyone inbetween).

God is GOOD!

Psalm 107:1 1  Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures for ever.

The natural response to God’s goodness is to give thanks; why? Because His LOVE endures forever and He is GOOD.

God because He is good cannot ever be unloving; He’s always full of LOVE towards EVERYONE.

God is GOOD!

Matthew 19:16-17 16  And, behold, one came and said unto him, “Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?” 17  And he said unto him, “Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.”

Jesus answer: “There is NONE GOOD but God alone.”

If we want to be GOOD enough to enter into Heaven, then all we need to do is obey God’s Commandments: His standards of GOODNESS.

Are you GOOD enough to get into Heaven?

Why don’t you click here (The Gospel Good News) and see if you qualify?

Remember; His love endures forever. He is good to everyone. He is the Creator. He has compassion on all He has made.

John 3:14-18 14  Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,
15  that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.
16  “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
17  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
18  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

Simply by believing in God’s ONE and ONLY Son; The LORD Jesus Christ, it’s possible to receive the gift of ETERNAL LIFE.

I’m praying that you’ll have an AWESOME day.

IN Jesus.

Trust in God’s goodness.

I am enjoying a great few days off my usual work, but I can’t STOP thinking about the Goodness of God. He’s always been good to me. Even in my darkest hour, God is GOOD. I’ve experienced the great goodness of God many times. I’ve known His presence and power in the deepest darkest of times. He’s Always Good! No matter what you are going through, TRUST in the goodness of God. He is only a prayer away, turn to Him and trust in His goodness. He IS good!
