Jesus Comfort In The Face of Death.

The Revelation of Jesus comes to those who are obedient to His Commands

Daily Spirit & Word, 631:

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you.”

God’s Comfort In The FACE of DEATH.

Good morning my friends, I know the title sounds bleak, but bear with me because there’s great encouragement and comfort today; God WANTS to REVEAL Himself to you today.

When Jesus was nearing the end of His earthly mission and He knew what was about to happen to Him, His thoughts were not for Himself, He was thinking about how His disciples would feel once He’d gone back to Heaven. He was thinking about them all because He loved them and knew that they all loved Him too. When someone we LOVE departs this Earth, it hurts. No matter how prepared you are for that event, deep down it tears something from your soul when a loved on leaves.

I’ll never forget my own mother’s death: We knew a week before she died that she’d only have one week left in this world. The Doctors had to stop her Dialysis Treatment: She was in the Renal Ward and the treatment wasn’t working. She was also riddled with Cancer. I had to break the news to my mum along with my dad that she only had a week to live. Although everyone knew she was coming to the end of her life, when she eventually died it was as if something was ripped from my own soul and a sick, empty feeling continued for many hours in my stomach.

When Jesus knew what was about to happen, He felt for His own disciples too. So with these words our Lord began to comfort them: Imagine getting this kind of assurance at the impending death of a loved one.

John 14:15-27 God’s Comfort In The Face of Death.
15 “If you love me, you will obey what I command.
16  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you for ever—
17  the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
18  I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
19  Before long, the world will not see me any more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
20  On that day you will realise that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
21  Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”
22  Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”
23  Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
24  He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
25  “All this I have spoken while still with you.
26  But the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
27  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

This whole passage is bound up in LOVE:

  • The LOVE: That God has for His Son, the Son (Jesus) for the Father (God).
  • The LOVE: That God has for those He’s brought to His Son Jesus.
  • The LOVE: That God the Son has for those He’s been teaching and training for over three years.
  • The LOVE: That those who’ve been following Jesus have for Him and for God and for each other.

It’s ALL ABOUT LOVE: And love hurts.

Verse 18: “I will not leave you as orphans”… An Orphan is one who’s bereft of parents. He’s hurting because he’s alone in this world. But Jesus is promising that they’ll get another counsellor and guide: God the Holy Spirit. God the Son is going to be replaced by God the Holy Spirit. It’s going to be different though; instead of God walking with them, talking with them, eating with them, He’s going to be INSIDE them. They’ll know God from now on in a very different way.

There is a condition attached to this REVELATION that’s about to happen.

“If anyone loves me and obeys my teaching”

The internal revelation and presence of God the Holy Spirit will only happen to those who are OBEDIENTLY seeking God.

God will never and can never show Himself to those who don’t want to know Him: those who are DISOBEDIENT.

NOTE: That doesn’t mean we need to be sinless or perfect to get a revelation of God. It just means we’ve come to God in weakness, repentance and faith, trusting in His Divine goodness and forgiveness through Jesus the Son, with a desire to be obedient to all He’s commanded: then we’ll get the revelation, presence and love of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

But what awesome PROMISES: God on the inside.

“My Father will love him” Awesome.

“He will be loved by My Father, I too will love him and will SHOW MYSELF to him”. WOWzer! Jesus is going to SHOW (Reveal) Himself to you.

Have you had that personal REVELATION yet?

It comes to EVERYONE who’s born of God’s Spirit.

When you are BORN AGAIN you KNOW Jesus, because He SHOWS Himself to you.

All this shows us how DEEP the Father’s LOVE for us is; and How interconnected God is: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Have an awesome day with the RESURRECTED Lord Jesus Christ.

Be filled afresh with God the Holy Spirit NOW!

Be assured that you belong to Father God Almighty and He LOVES you. Amen!

Don.

Believe The Promises of Jesus Today

Daily Spirit & Word, 628:

BELIEVE THE PROMISES OF JESUS CHRIST.

Good morning my friends, there are many times when sincere followers of Jesus feel low.

What are we to do at these times?

  • When there is no joy in our religious activity?
  • When there is no sense of God’s presence?
  • When the Word of the Lord seems not to be speaking to “Me”?
  • When we feel far away from the Lord?
  • When we want to know the Lord’s comfort, but find none?
  • When we try to pick ourselves up out of the dirt and fail

Listen afresh to what the LORD says concerning this kind of thirsting.

Trust afresh in ALL the Promises of Jesus.

“I will” it’s His PROMISE:

THE LORD PROMISES:

First to Israel: The Lord God Almighty (Jehovah) made many promises to His Chosen People Israel: These are promises: a promise is something that’s bound to happen and they cannot be revoked. Some of the Lord’s promises to Israel are not popular or positive; the promise to judge them and exile them if they turn away from Him. But His eternal promise that they will be His People and He will be their God is until Christ returns in Judgement.

Isaiah 44:1-5
1 “But now listen, O Jacob, my servant, Israel, whom I have chosen.
2  This is what the LORD says— he who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you: Do not be afraid, O Jacob, my servant, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
3  For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.
4  They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams.
5  One will say, ‘I belong to the LORD‘; another will call himself by the name of Jacob; still another will write on his hand, ‘The LORD’S’, and will take the name Israel.

What an awesome series of promises from the Lord don’t you think? But now speak the following promises out loud to your thirsty soul.

THE LORD JESUS PROMISES:

These are PROMISES to those who’ve trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for Salvation and taken hold of Him as Saviour.

First: Jesus’ ENCOURAGEMENT TO OVERCOME:

Revelation 3:12-13 “Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name. 13  He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

WOWzer! What a wonderful promise: Jesus is going to write on you God’s Name and His Own New Name (Don’t know what that is yet do we?). We’ll be in God’s Temple and Never again will we leave it. (The Temple is the Presence of God).

Second: Jesus Christ and His Teachings and Commandments Are Your WISDOM:

Matthew 7:21-25 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22  Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23  Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ 24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

Are you certain that you are IN CHRIST and that He is IN YOU? You’ll know, because God’s Spirit will let you know that you belong to God.

Third: Jesus Promise of ETERNAL LIFE & ETERNAL SECURITY:

John 10:24-30
24  The Jews gathered round him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
25  Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in my Father’s name speak for me,
26  but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.
27  My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
28  I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no-one can snatch them out of my hand.
29  My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no-one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.
30  I and the Father are one.”

WOWzer! Such a beautiful promise of Jesus “no one, nothing can snatch us out of The Lord Jesus’ hand or the Father’s hand.”

Finally: THE PROMISE OF FRESH PASTURE & ABUNDANT LIFE.

John 10:9-11
9  I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.
10  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
11  “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

Jesus gave His life so that you could experience ABUNDANT (FULL LIFE).

When the Father draws you by the Holy Spirit to put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, then once you’ve responded in repentance and faith, received the New Birth and become a member of God’s family; it’s forever!

Jesus Presence For Your Despair.

When Feeling Desperate Jesus is Near

Daily Spirit & Word, 489: Jesus Presence For Your Despair.

40 Days With Jesus: Day 4. Jesus Presence For Your Despair.

John 20:10-14 (NIV)
10  Then the disciples went back to their homes, 11  but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12  and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. 13  They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” 14  At this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realise that it was Jesus.

Good morning my friends, we live in a world of deep despair. People are going through stuff every day and many are so troubled they give up any hope of ever being free from these desperate feelings. The reasons for our despair are many; for some it’s the daily struggle to make ends meet and provide for the family. For others it’s unhappiness at work or the fear of loosing one’s livelihood. For others it’s the break-up of significant relationships with loved ones and close friends.  Like Mary Magdalene mentioned above you may have also lost a love one. It might be that there’s nothing in your life right now to cause you to despair, but you are feeling as if something is missing, there’s an inner emptiness and restlessness.

The impression we get from reading John 20:10-14 above is that Mary is in deep despair, standing outside the tomb of Jesus weeping, she is so upset, heartbroken and grieving, that in her despair she fails to see or notice that God is showing her something to encourage her. Even the presence of Angelic Beings from Heaven should have indicated to Mary that God had something to do with the disappearance of Jesus’ body. It’s like that for many people in desperate times; no matter how hard you try to encourage them, because they are hurting, their soul focus is upon the hurt.

Try telling a man with toothache that the daffodils or forget-me-nots look lovely and the sunrise was awesome; he’ll not even want to entertain the idea of beauty until he gets relief from the pain in his teeth.

It’s the exact same for those who are suffering emotional pain and torment, sometimes even though there’s lots to be encouraged by, they cannot see it because something else has their complete attention, they are absorbed in their grief. This is hard for those trying to help them, because we cannot see their pain.

My friends, if Angels couldn’t help Mary, then don’t think you are going to be able to lift someone out of deep depression either. It takes a supernatural effort to life them for the deepest pits of despair. Jesus was standing right behind Mary, but she didn’t realise. Many people who’re going through tough times don’t realise that Jesus is right there with them. He’s loving them, because that’s part of His DIVINE NATURE. God is LOVE. Even when she turned around and saw Jesus, her grief was so intense that she didn’t recognise Him. She was still looking for Jesus dead body and even asked Jesus where the his body was. Oh my friends, when we’re desperate, sometimes even though it’s right in front of our face, we don’t perceive that Jesus is with us, that He’s trying to show us something to encourage us and build us up again.

Mary Magdalene really loved Jesus and that’s why she was grieving, her grief had blinded her to the reality of Jesus being right in front of her nose. For everyone who’s in despair today, Jesus is with you by His Holy Spirit. No matter what the cause of your despair is, know that he’s consistent and faithful to His Holy Promises. “He’ll NEVER leave you or forsake you”, “He’s with you and in you”, Jesus said, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age”.

Listen afresh to the Divine promises of God in Isaiah 43:1-3.

Isaiah 43:1-3 (NIV)
1  But now, this is what the LORD says— he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. 2  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. 3  For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead.

For all of us, no matter what our emotional state at this moment in time, the above passage is medicine for our soul. God want you to know my friends just how much He loves you. His is an everlasting love. We all experience love from people and have been let down when they didn’t love us like we expected, right? Well my friends, God’s NOT like that, He’ll never let you down and when you pass through the troubled waters of grief His Holy Promise is “I WILL BE WITH YOU”.

Mary Magdalene didn’t see it until the Lord Jesus called her name, look at the Isaiah passage above, “I have summoned you by name”. When God called you into a relationship with Jesus, He called you by name, you are His, He chose you, He’s calling your name again this morning and He wants to be with you and heal you and help you.

Points to Ponder

  • Are you in deep despair? Do you believe that God’s love can overcome any pain or hopelessness you are facing? Is there someone you could ask to come and pray with you?
  • Have you noticed any patterns in your life where similar circumstances consistently cause you to feel down or depressed? How can you increase your awareness of the presence of Jesus? I’d suggest some of these things, they work for me every time: Prayer, Praise, Worship, Bible Reading and Study, Fellowship with fellow saints regularly, Fasting, Getting alone with the Lord and talking through my problems with Him.
  • Finally, do you know anyone who is currently in despair? Take some time to pray for them and ask the Lord if He wants you to be His hands and feet to be with them and to show them that Jesus really cares.

Prayers For Day 4 of 40 Days With Jesus.

Dear Lord Jesus, I want to reaffirm my commitment to You. I choose to put my trust in You today despite what I am facing or how I am feeling. You know every broken place in my life. You are immediately aware of my hurts and you keep track of all my sorrows. (Psalm 56:8). Lord Jesus, because you became a human being just like me, fully human in every way (Hebrews 2:17), I know that You identify with what I’m going through. Open my eyes Lord to recognise You in the midst of my brokenness, I’m trusting and believing today that if I seek You with all my heart, I will find You (Jeremiah 29:13). Now, I thank You that You are looking for me too. With Your tender love, so come and lead me from despair into hope, from anxiety into peace and from brokenness into wholeness. Amen.
