Shrove Tuesday (known in some countries as Pancake Day) is a day in February or March, preceding Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent), which is celebrated in some countries by consuming pancakes.
We made our yesterday (Friday) because that’s the day of our Youth Group Meeting.
Shrove Tuesday, is what’s called a movable feast and is determined by when Easter is celebrated each year.
The expression “Shrove Tuesday” comes from the word shrive, meaning “confess”.
Shrove Tuesday is observed by many groups of Christians, including; Anglicans, Lutherans, Methodists and Roman Catholics, who “make a special point of self-examination, of considering what wrongs / sins they need to repent from, and what amendments of life or areas of spiritual growth they especially need to ask God’s help in dealing with.
Shrove Tuesday, being the last day before the penitential season of Lent, related popular practices, such as indulging in food that one sacrifices for the upcoming forty days during Lent. Associated with Shrove Tuesday celebrations, before commencing the fasting and other religious obligations associated with Lent.
The term Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday”, referring to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which begins on Ash Wednesday.
Many Christians have found the Season of Lent very helpful and have experienced afresh the fullness of the Holy Spirit and drawn much closer to the Lord Jesus Christ, but daily devotions in the Bible. Particularly meditating upon those portions of Scripture that deal with Repentance, Temptation and Self-Denial.
Do you remember how Jesus said, “Take up your cross daily…” Well that’s what we do during Lent and once you’ve gotten into the good habit of daily time with God, in the bible and in prayer, you’ll be reluctant to stop meeting with Him.
Other Christians come to Bible Study Groups During Lent: Again these have proven to be life changing, because the group looks at study material with a particular focus each year.
