Are You Living Like A Christian?

Good morning my friends, we’re all getting ready for Christmas. I’ve got many different things to do, it’s busy, but I love this time of the year. Thinking about the birth of my Lord Jesus. However, you are, like me, going to be inundated with invitations from the world and the flesh, how are you going to respond?

What a brilliant evening we had with a brother who was struggling to make certain his calling in Christ. Last night as we were doing some training for Street Evangelism, we were joined by a brother who was struggling with fears of all kinds. So we stopped what we were doing and spent some time going over the GOSPEL and the call of the Gospel. He had difficulty knowing how to respond.

However, what became clear was, that though he had previously made “A Profession of Faith”, from his own lips he declared, “Nothing has happened”, “I’m just the same”. What he went onto clarify was that he was still struggling with the same old things, and he didn’t know if he’d really come and trusted Christ. He tried attending worship (sporadically) and praying and reading his Bible, but there was no inward inclination to change his attitude or habits.

Was he saved? Was he a Christian who’d been filled with God’s Spirit? It soon became clear he wasn’t, but last night he finally trusted in Jesus death upon the Cross for his sins and received Him as Lord. Having grasped the full meaning of the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Does Your Conversion Affect Your Conduct?

2 Corinthians 7:1 “Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

What promises is the verse referring to?

We must remember that when Paul originally wrote 2nd Corinthians it didn’t have chapter or verse divisions, it was a letter. So looking back in the letter we’ll see “these promises” he’s referring to.

He is of course referring to;  2 Corinthians 6:16-18

16  What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
17  “Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.”
18  “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

When we receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour: We are born of the Spirit, he takes up residence within our bodies and we become the Temple of the Living God. He’s in us, we are Holy. Verse 18 reveals God’s promise to “be a Father to you”. We are God’s children, His sons and daughters, when we receive Jesus Christ. That’s God’s awesome promise. Also declared in John 1:12-13.

So with these great promises in place in your heart, God is encouraging you to live a moral life: “let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

How can you cleanse yourself? How can we ‘perfect’ holiness?

Christians are often attacked in the media and everyday-life as hypocrites: i.e. “their conduct doesn’t match their profession” and “They say they are ‘Christians’, but they don’t live like Christians should.” No doubt we ALL fail to fully live up to the high calling of purity and holiness of life, but the failure is not CHRISTIANITY or our LORD Jesus Christ, but the fault is with us. It’s because we’re not making use of everything the Lord has provided for our moral conduct in the world: His power and His presence that will enable us to overcome the flesh, the world and the devil.

To cleanse ourselves and to perfect holiness, we need a healthy fear God’s holiness. We don’t fear His person, because He is our Father and we are joint heirs with the Lord Jesus Christ, as God’s children we too are dearly loved, but God is still completely holy and cannot tolerate sin. Our fellowship with Him is broken when we are contaminated and still living in sin (1 John 1:5-10).

I really love the old KJV of the Bible, because it doesn’t mince it’s word choice here, it calls our deliberate dabbling and playing with the disgusting things of this world; “filthiness“.

2 Corinthians 7:1 (KJV) “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

The things the people of the world accept as OK are filthy in God’s eyes:

Think about movies, videos, games, adverts on TV, game-shows, TV soaps, magazines and newspapers etc, they are all filled with filthy rubbish that will contaminate the pure mind of the follower of Jesus. Their pages and programs are choc-a-block with sexual scenes, filthy language and blasphemy. Every night on TV you’ll hear people taking the Lord Jesus holy name and using it as a swear word or an expletive. They use Jesus glorious Name as a profane or obscene expression, usually of surprise or anger. We watched a police enforcement program the other day. People caught by the Police were rude, very rude, disgusting use of language to a person in authority. On the News last night, the Police were trying to control the crowds of shoppers in Oxford Street, their language and conduct was appalling towards each other and to the Police. Pushing, shoving, shouting, swearing and queue jumping. Some poor old lady was in tears because she just couldn’t get on a bus, because young people kept jumping in front of her. They’d all been Christmas Shopping.

God wants His children to be pure and holy like He is, because He’s living in us.

That is why God doesn’t want you to defile the Temple of the Living God: your body.

Flesh & Spirit:

How can we ‘purify’ ourselves.

The truth is we can’t, we can’t because only the blood of Jesus can wash away sin. However, we can enlist His Holy help. Jesus Christ is in you, the Holy Spirit is in you, God the Father is in you. Your body is God’s dwelling place, so LIVE as Jesus would. Live as Jesus did, a pure and holy life.

When you fail, you’ll know it.

Your Spirit within you will not be at ease with SIN or moral filthiness.

If you ever get to the point in your ‘Christian’ walk, where you can sin and it doesn’t bother you, you are either UNSAVED in the first place or you’ve been given over to your heart’s desires. You’ll need to REPENT and trust Jesus Christ and receive His Holy Spirit. Confess your weaknesses: to Jesus, to each other. Tell the Lord about how you’ve grown to love sin, how you’ve become enamoured and longing for the dog’s vomit again. How you’ve become like a pig, wallowing in the filthy mud and muck of the world. Ask Him to take away the LOVE of sinning. Pray that He’ll really become for you, the Alpha and the Omega of your daily walk, the first and last of your affections.

Question: Does your conversion match your conduct? Are you a professing Christian who’s living a double life? Publicly attending worship, but secretly thoroughly embedded in the world?

In truth, we’ve all got a tendency towards the flesh and gratifying it’s desires. It’s a daily battle and with the LORD’S help, presence and power you are going to win. You will need to remain connected: with Jesus, with fellowship with brothers and sisters in the faith. You’ll need to keep being filled afresh with God the Holy Spirit. You’ll need to constantly confess and repent and return; sometimes many times a day. However, be assured that it will become a JOY to be Holy as Jesus is Holy. He’ll give you new desires in your heart. You’ll be loving, joyful, kind, gentle, patient, goodness will be evident to all, you’ll be faithful and self-controlled. Get filled-up with God’s Spirit right now.

  • Your body is a Temple of God’s presence.
  • You are a child of God, He is your Father.
  • He’s with you forever.

BE STILL: Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:1-11).

Has Jesus Promised More Than He Can Deliver?

Good morning my friends, I want to encourage the Saints in Christ today, those who have surrendered their lives to Him as LORD and Saviour. Why? Well it’s because sometimes, there are brothers and sisters in Christ who seem to be a bit down. They seem to want or need something more, but with shoulders down and arms drooping, they walk in and out of ‘church’ not getting what it is they need. And I’m feeling so sad, because I know there’s POWER waiting for them, if they’ll just tap into it. It’s as if they’re living with this feeling or question, “Has my Lord Jesus promised more than He can deliver for me?”

  • Perhaps, you came to Jesus expecting life to be a bed of roses.
  • Perhaps it’s because you thought you would always feel powerful and strong in the Spirit.
  • Perhaps it’s because you expected to never have to suffer or go without the good things in life.

Whatever the let-down is, you NEED encouragement today; because Jesus can deliver all things in abundance. His promises are always TRUE and can be found to be true for every truly converted believer.

Jesus Christ CAN and WILL sustain you in everything. Believe it again, believe it afresh today.

Did you get to the verse in your Bible that promises; “I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens me”… If, like me, you make notes of powerful Bible verses at the front and rear of your Bible, then turning to these often will give encouragement. Especially when you find them to be true when you live them.

Philippians 4:11-13 (NLT) The Secret Strength For Contentment.
11  Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.
12  I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.
13  For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

It’s NOT a Secret my friends. Jesus has revealed it in the experience of the Apostle Paul and countless thousands of other followers of Jesus; we can FACE ANYTHING when we get the strength for our weakness through Jesus Christ.

  • If you have ANY need in your life today; come afresh to Jesus Christ.
  • If you have SOMETHING you need help with today, come to Jesus Christ first.
  • If you want a SITUATION SORTED, then come to Jesus, because He wants to give you His strength.

Avail yourself of the POWER that’s available today: You won’t just be contented, but overflowing.

If you are feeling downcast, disheartened, discouraged today; then bring it to Jesus.

He’ll lift up your soul. He’ll fill you afresh with Holy Spirit. He’ll give you the NEW WINE of the Kingdom. It will be like a fountain within, you will not be able to turn it off. Joy overflowing from within. Do you want that? Come to Jesus NOW in prayer and be strengthened and encouraged.

Has Jesus promised more than He can deliver? No my friends, but there’s more, much more than you can ever imagine stored up for you, tap into the power source of the Universe, come to the Lord Jesus Christ and you’ll see.

PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, forgive me for those times that I’ve doubted You. I come to you now and trust You afresh in everything. I know Lord that I can do ALL THINGS in the power and strength that You provide through Holy Spirit living in me”. Amen.

Determine in your hearts today; “I’m going to share with Jesus all my desires and longings today.” Amen.

Psalm 37:1-11

3  Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4  Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5  Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:

6  He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
7  Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
8  Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.
9  For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
10  A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.
11  But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.

Good morning my friends, I was singing the little praise song; “Delight Yourself In The LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Then looked up the Scriptures: WOWzer! How awesome is Psalm 37?

I’ve just received news that a friend who was deemed to be here in the UK illegally, and was about to be deported, has been granted a reprieve. It’s totally AWESOME! She’s a real STAR and her trust in the LORD throughout all her trials is a wonder to behold. No matter what her circumstance, and they’ve been truly terrible, she’s resorted to; prayer, praise, trust and delight in the LORD. She witnessed to me the other day, “Don, even though I’m due to be removed from the UK, I’ve got real PEACE and the FEAR has been taken away. I’m trusting in the LORD”… How brilliantly awesome is that? Though her situation looked bleak; Her JOY in the LORD was evident.

LOOK WHAT THE PSALMIST SAID:

  • There are conditions to our PEACE and SAFETY in the Land.
  • There are conditions to our Heart’s Desire.
  • There are Conditions to our INHERITANCE.

WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS?

TRUST: Trust in what? The strength of your arm? NO! The cunning or craftiness of your ways? NO! We are to TRUST in the LORD. Remember my friends, “It’s not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit says the LORD”.

DELIGHT: Delight is the second condition: Delighting in the LORD means praising HIM no matter what you are going through. He’ll deliver you. He’ll fight for you. He’ll watch your back.

COMMIT: Commit your ways to the LORD! Lay all your own plans before the LORD. Let Him direct your paths. We don’t know the future, but He does, so it’s much better to trust the one who knows what’s best for us.

BE STILL: When we’re still, we’re not doing anything. We’re not acting or working or plotting or planning. He’s got the situation that you’ve TRUSTED Him with, DELIGHTED in Him for: So why fret, why worry, He’s got it. “He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.”

REFRAIN FROM ANGER: You know it’s easy to get all heated-up and angry if we dwell upon our situations. However, when we: Trust, Delight, Commit and Be Still: All the fretting seems totally useless.

What happens when we trust the LORD like that? What happens when we live life totally dependent upon the LORD?

” But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.” Psalm 32:11.

The next time you find yourself moaning, fretting or getting upset about something; Turn to this Psalm: Highlight those words in your Bible so you can find them again. Make a note at the front of your Bible: “When I’m feeling down and depressed I’m going to do what Psalm 37 tells me to do: Trust, Delight, Commit, Be Still and Wait on the LORD.” Turn to it often, commit it to memory.

The Wonderful Friends, The Wonder-Filled Crowd & The Wonderful Words of Jesus.

Jesus Has The Power & Authority to Forgive Sin.

SHOCKING NEWS: I was filled with a deep sickening-feeling when I watched the news that so many people had been killed by those murderous terrorists in Paris. We’re with the French Nation! Grieving with you over your loss of so many young loved ones. It’s a scar that will be painful and will hurt for a long time to come. I couldn’t call them soldiers or that this is a war, because that would elevate them to an army. They are pure merchants of an evil that’s running rampant over the face of the earth. Praying for PEACE and in God’s timing that the good people of France will be enabled to FORGIVE. For when we forgive, then we are set-free. O LORD, please bring the comfort that You alone can give in the face of death. Amen!

Good morning my friends, today we’re back with Mark’s Gospel and chapter 2. The familiar story, recounted in many a Sunday School Class, the famous account of the four friends who brought their friend to Jesus to be healed, but couldn’t get in at the door so the climbed-up, made a hole in the roof and lowered their friends to the feet of Jesus Christ.

 

Mark 2:1-12. The Paralysed Man: Forgiven and Healed. Four Wonderful Friends.
1 A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home.
2  So many gathered that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them.
3  Some men came, bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four of them.
4  Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralysed man was lying on.
5  When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
6  Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves,
7  “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
8  Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things?
9  Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’?
10  But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins . . . .” He said to the paralytic,
11  “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.”
12  He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

There are so many wonderful lessons and sermons I’ve personally heard about this account. I’ve preached upon it many times myself, but today I was struck afresh by these four men and Jesus response and the crowds of people in the house that day.

The Three Things That Strike Me Today:

1) The Wonderful Friends.

What amazing friends this paralysed man had.

4  Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralysed man was lying on.

Some people imagine that when someone is paralysed that they will be that way for the rest of their days.

Imagine, if that man’s friends had thought like that? He may have wanted to be cured, but if they’d argued, “It’s no use mate, you’re paralysed, just get used to it, there’s no hope for you”. (British Home: Used to be called, “The British Home For The Incurables” I first saw that sign and I wept inside. I first visited the Home before I was the Minister here, and my heart sank “Have I got to come to this place and preach to these people who have no hope of ever being cured?”

Those Wonderful Friends didn’t think like that; they had FAITH that Jesus could heal their friend.

My friends, I do have a hope, I do believe with all my heart that Jesus can and does do miracles today. I’ve seen miracles of healing and I believe, like those four wonderful friends obviously did, that their friend is worth bringing to Jesus Christ. Jesus came into this world to SAVE everyone. Not everyone will be SAVED but that’s what Jesus wants, be certain of that my friends.

How were they Wonderful Friends?

They Cared: They didn’t give up when they couldn’t get in through the door.

Some of us give up too easily on those we’re trying to bring to Jesus Christ, but not these friends.

You may have been trying for years to get a loved on SAVED, but they refuse to come to Jesus. Be like those friends, who were not put-off by the crowds at the door.

They Were Creative: They used their heads, “what other way can we get him into see Jesus?”

Some of us, when we’re met with an obstacle, just give-up, just put-off by the obstacles, but instead they got creative.

It might take an unusual approach to save your friends and relatives. It might mean you’ll have to think of another way. A different or novel way.

The must have said amongst themselves that day, “We can’t get in through the door, but look, there’s a roof and we can easily break through the roof and get him into see Jesus”… That’s creative. Not only did they care, they were not going to be put-off and they got very creative.

They Were Commended: Not only did they care and get creative, but they were commended by Jesus for their faith.

Verse 5  “When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.””

It wasn’t the paralytic’s faith that was commended that day, it was the faith of the friends who struggled to bring him to the feet of Jesus Christ.

Will you be commended by Jesus because of your FAITH?

The faith they demonstrated was obvious; their faith had legs, they didn’t let obstacles get in the way, they tried their hardest all all costs to bring their friend to Jesus. They BELIEVED that Jesus would and could HEAL their friend.  What wonderful faith, what wonderful friends. O my friends, if only we had a church full of people who were longing to bring their friends to faith and trust in Jesus Christ. If only we’d bring our loved ones to Jesus. If our Church was not put-off by obstacles, think how full our church could be.

They may be paralysed:

  • They may not be able to come themselves to Jesus: You Bring Them.
  • They may not want to come to Jesus: You Bring Them whatever way you can. Carry Them.
  • They are paralysed by sin, powerless to save themselves. You show them they can be SAVED by Jesus.
  • They’re not looking to come to Jesus: They are BLIND and cannot see their NEED of Jesus or Church: we must open their blinded eyed and bring them to Jesus.

“When Jesus saw their faith”: The man’s sins got forgiven.

Imagine: You’ve struggled to bring your paralysed friend to Jesus. You’ve heard that He’s a healer and all He does is say, “Son, your sins are forgiven you”… What? I mean, “We’ve just dug through a roof, we’ve not been put off by the crowd, we’ve lowered our friend on ropes to your feet and all you do is forgive him his sins?” But Jesus is NOT finished yet.

THEY Cooperated TOGETHER:

One last thing about the Wonderful Friends: The worked together to bring their friend to Jesus.

That tells me afresh today; “Donald, don’t try and do it all alone. Work together to bring people to Jesus.” It’s a TEAM effort. We’ve got to be working together. There’s always something you can be doing: If you can’t be an Evangelist, you can be a prayer. You can be a meal-giver, you can be a host, you can be a helper, you can be a giver, you can be SOMETHING as part of the TEAM Here are St LUKE’S Church to bring people to Jesus. Only four of the group were carrying the man, there were more than four of them. All those people, bringing their friend to Jesus. Think: When we’re joined together in UNITY there the LORD commands His blessing.

 

2) The Wonder-Filled Crowd.

The Wonder-Filled Crowd: They were all crammed into that house to hear Jesus teaching. So many that the sick couldn’t get in. They were filled with wonder, but they’d become a stumbling-block; blocking access to Jesus that day.

The Church Today is FILLED with the WONDERERS: They love wondering at the words of Jesus, they love sermons, they love healings, they love miracles, they love the spectacle of power ministries, but just like the Wonder-Filled Crowd back then, they become a blockage to people coming to Jesus today. They don’t care: Even if they do care, the don’t show their faith, by doing something about it.

How do we know they were a blockage? It’s revealed when Jesus said those amazing words; “Son, your sins are forgiven you”.

That Wonder-Filled Crowd knew that ONLY God can forgive sins.

Mark 2:6-9
6  Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves,
7  “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
8  Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things?
9  Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? 

They were right too, these TEACHERS of God’s Law: ONLY God can forgive sins.

My friends, if ever there was a passage in the Bible that shouts-out about the Divinity of Jesus, that Jesus is God, it’s this one (there are many, many more) but they KNEW that Jesus was claiming to be God by saying, “Son, your sins are forgiven you”, because ONLY God can forgive sins.

But instead of praising Jesus Christ as God, they began to accuse Him of Blasphemy in their hearts. Many times these Jewish Teachers of the Law wanted to stone Jesus to death for His blasphemous words. They were there, crowded into the house, listening to the wonderful teaching of Jesus, but they were not all there to praise Jesus. Some of them were there only to be critical and cynical. Not everyone in that house that day was filled with a desire to be a follower of Jesus.

Now, listen afresh to the wonderful words of Jesus;

3) The Wonderful Words of Jesus.

Mark 2:8-12.
8  Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things?
9  Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’?
10  But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins . . . .” He said to the paralytic,
11  “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.”
12  He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”
Before they could utter their thoughts out loud, Jesus took the initiative, by REVEALING THEIR THINKING.

Not only is it ONLY GOD that can forgive sins; but ONLY GOD knows what a man is THINKING.

That alone should have convinced them that this man Jesus before them was God on Earth.

No ONE on Earth or in Heaven can read your thoughts, but God ALONE (Jesus is God).

No ONE on Earth today can say to a Paralysed man, get up and walk and he’s healed and walks. Only God can do that kind of miracle. This again, the third thing that day, proved that Jesus was God.

 

MARK 2:10 To PROVE THAT Jesus, “The Son of Man” (Messiah Title) Has the Authority to FORGIVE SIN: He performs this miracle.

Mark 2:10-12:
10  But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins . . . .” He said to the paralytic,
11  “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.”
12  He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

These Wonderful Words of Jesus, to Prove He was God on the Earth, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home”… He did and they were all amazed. He did it in full view of them all. The Miracles was to prove to the doubters that day and today that Jesus is God. He has the authority to forgive sins, only God can do that.

Conclusion:

We’ve seen today;

The Wonderful Friends: Who are full of faith, undaunted by obstacles, creative in bringing their friend to Jesus and caring enough to consider that not even a paralytic is beyond the reach of Jesus power.

The Wonder-Filled Crowd: They’d become a blockage to people coming to Jesus. Not everyone was there for right reasons. Be certain that you are not coming to Church just to wowed and to wonder, but to work for Jesus too.

The Wonderful Words of Jesus: “Your Sins are forgiven, Your thinking this, Take up your mat”

Forgiven and Healed: Forgiven and Commanded; Forgiven and Commissioned.

Thoughts: Are you being a Wonderful Friend to someone today? Is there someone you can bring to Christ? Don’t be put-off, deterred, disheartened, disillusioned, by a blockage. They may not be willing to come to Jesus yet: don’t ever give-up on them, what may seem impossible now: Is POSSIBLE (All things, all people, everyone; can come to Jesus). There’s no one beyond the help and hope of Jesus POWER to reach them. Like the Paralytics Wonderful Friends: Be creative, Have faith, Keep going when everyone else gives up.

 

BE AMAZED: Like the Wonder-Filled CROWD: Let these words of Jesus fill you with wonder every day. Let Him come to you afresh. Let Him dazzle you with amazement. Only Jesus knows what they were thinking, ONLY GOD Can Do That: Jesus is God.

 

The Wonderful Words of Jesus: He’s saying to you today “Your sins are forgiven, now get up and go for Me into this world and proclaim the Good News”…. That’s the Wonderful Good News Gospel of Jesus. You’ve got it my friends, now go and give it away; Be part of the Wonder-Filled Crowd who were there to listen to every word of Jesus, Be like those Wonderful Friends and let the Wonderful Words of Jesus impact your HEART today. Amen!

ASK and You SHALL Receive

Ask, Seek, Find, Knock,

Daily Spirit & Word, 633: Ask and You Shall Receive.

Good morning my friends, be ready to be ENCOURAGED TODAY!

You know the hymn “What a friend we have in Jesus”? Well in the first verse it goes;

“Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!”

All Because:

My friends, when Jesus gave us the Lord’s prayer and told us to ask for daily bread, He didn’t just mean for us to ask ONLY for bread. Whenever you have a NEED of any kind in your life, THEN your Heavenly Father wants you to come to Him with that need.

  • If you have a need for a wife or husband, go to God first, before trying to find one for yourself. He’ll bring the right person into your life.
  • If you have a need for employment, your Heavenly Father wants you to be working, so He’ll supply you with a job.
  • If you have need for a house, your Father knows you need a roof over your head.
  • If you have a need for food, then ASK.
  • If you are sick, go to your Heavenly Father and get the fellowship to pray for you.
  • If you are lonely, come to your Heavenly Father first.

So many people have NEEDS in life, that they don’t bother God with, they try always in their own strength to meet those needs. Instead of going immediately to Father God, they’ll go to a doctor or the chemist. Instead of asking God for money, they’ll go and get a loan and get into serious debt.

Remember, “it’s NOT by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit says the LORD.”

Sometimes we’re experiencing a lack in life, simply because we didn’t ASK God.

James 4:2 “You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.”

Ask your Heavenly Father: Think about he PEACE that you are often missing out on by not taking all your needs to Him.

What a friends we have in Jesus,
ALL our sins and griefs to bear,
what a privilege to carry,
EVERYTHING to God in prayer,
Oh what PEACE we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless PAIN we bear,
All because we do not carry,
EVERYTHING to God in prayer.

Matthew 7:7-8
7  “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
8  For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

What NEEDS do you have in your life that are not being met?

I want to encourage you today my friends, take them to your Heavenly Father.
Ask Him in the Name of Jesus.
Pray to Him in the Spirit.
Sing songs and presents your requests to God with thanksgiving in your heart, knowing that He hears you when you pray in faith and that He longs to give you what you need.

I’ve found that the times when I’m not praying very much for things is when I’m quite well off. We take things for granted and forget that everything we have in this world comes to us because of God’s grace, love and mercy. So if you are NOT in need just now, then be sure to give the Lord thanks and praise. Honour Him by giving some of it away generously to those who are experiencing lack in their lives. Who knows, you may be just the person that the LORD has gifted to answer someone else’s prayers.

Believe The Promises of Jesus Today

BELIEVE THE PROMISES OF JESUS CHRIST.

Good morning my friends, there are many times when sincere followers of Jesus feel low.

What are we to do at these times?

  • When there is no joy in our religious activity?
  • When there is no sense of God’s presence?
  • When the Word of the Lord seems not to be speaking to “Me”? 
  • When we feel far away from the Lord?
  • When we want to know the Lord’s comfort, but find none?
  • When we try to pick ourselves up out of the dirt and fail

Listen afresh to what the LORD says concerning this kind of thirsting.

Trust afresh in ALL the Promises of Jesus.

“I will” it’s His PROMISE:

THE LORD PROMISES:

First to Israel: The Lord God Almighty (Jehovah) made many promises to His Chosen People Israel: These are promises: a promise is something that’s bound to happen and they cannot be revoked. Some of the Lord’s promises to Israel are not popular or positive; the promise to judge them and exile them if they turn away from Him. But His eternal promise that they will be His People and He will be their God is until Christ returns in Judgement.

Isaiah 44:1-5
1 “But now listen, O Jacob, my servant, Israel, whom I have chosen.
2  This is what the LORD says— he who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you: Do not be afraid, O Jacob, my servant, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
3  For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.
4  They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams.
5  One will say, ‘I belong to the LORD‘; another will call himself by the name of Jacob; still another will write on his hand, ‘The LORD’S’, and will take the name Israel.

What an awesome series of promises from the Lord don’t you think? But now speak the following promises out loud to your thirsty soul.

THE LORD JESUS PROMISES:

These are PROMISES to those who’ve trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for Salvation and taken hold of Him as Saviour.

First: Jesus’ ENCOURAGEMENT TO OVERCOME:

Revelation 3:12-13 “Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name. 13  He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

WOWzer! What a wonderful promise: Jesus is going to write on you God’s Name and His Own New Name (Don’t know what that is yet do we?). We’ll be in God’s Temple and Never again will we leave it. (The Temple is the Presence of God).

Second: Jesus Christ and His Teachings and Commandments Are Your WISDOM:

Matthew 7:21-25 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22  Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23  Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ 24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

Are you certain that you are IN CHRIST and that He is IN YOU? You’ll know, because God’s Spirit will let you know that you belong to God.

Third: Jesus Promise of ETERNAL LIFE & ETERNAL SECURITY:

John 10:24-30
24  The Jews gathered round him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
25  Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in my Father’s name speak for me,
26  but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.
27  My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
28  I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no-one can snatch them out of my hand.
29  My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no-one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.
30  I and the Father are one.”

WOWzer! Such a beautiful promise of Jesus “no one, nothing can snatch us out of The Lord Jesus’ hand or the Father’s hand.”

Finally: THE PROMISE OF FRESH PASTURE & ABUNDANT LIFE.

John 10:9-11
9  I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.
10  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
11  “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

Jesus gave His life so that you could experience ABUNDANT (FULL LIFE).

When the Father draws you by the Holy Spirit to put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, then once you’ve responded in repentance and faith, received the New Birth and become a member of God’s family; it’s forever!

The Importance of Persevering.

Sharing the Good News with people on the streets of London

Daily Spirit & Word, 627: The Importance Of Persevering:

When Witnessing To Professing Believers In Jesus.

2 Corinthians 12:9 “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

Good morning my friends, it was with great joy we returned from the battle for souls, sharing the Awesome Good News of Jesus on the Streets of West Norwood last night. It is a battle and each encounter leaves you feeling strength has been sapped from you. Our battle is NOT against flesh and blood,  Ephesians 6:11-12 “Put on the full armour of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

But why were we so filled with the joy of the Lord?

Because we won battle after battle last night.

But before we went out, we really took to heart what God’s Word tells us about our need for Jesus and for His strength and power and presence to be in us.  Zechariah 4:6 “… ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.”

Out Of The Darkness: Into The Light:

You know something my friends, sharing Jesus enlightens not only those we share with, but also we ourselves. We come face to face with our motives for witnessing, our heart’s desires and our own shortcomings and limitations. It reminds us afresh just how much we need Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit in everything we attempt for His glory. We go out in His strength and we come back rejoicing. However, if we were to go in our own strength, in the strength of the flesh, we would have returned with our battle banners trailing in the dirt and our armour stained with blood.

We must go out recognizing our own weakness and lack of ability to do anything unless the Lord goes out with us.

Charles Spurgeon said, “He will only reap that corn, the seed of which was sown from heaven, watered by grace, and ripened by the sun of divine love.” From Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening Devotional for 4th November.

Secondly, we were witnesses of what the Lord was doing in the lives of those we shared with. How He had already prepared people’s hearts for the Gospel last night.

The Gospel really does open the eyes of the blind: for many we met last night professed a belief in Jesus almost immediately, but as we continued to witness, through discernment and the gift of the Holy Spirit, we could see quite clearly they’d gotten into ‘religion’ without coming to a true faith and trust in Jesus Christ. So many had attended church, but had stopped short of going the whole way to trust in Jesus for themselves. However, initially, they were so blinded by their own self-assurance that they didn’t seem concerned at all about their own eternal welfare, thankfully the LORD was and He was ready to open their eyes.

As we chatted, we asked this simple question: “Do you think God will allow you into Heaven?” and to some others, “Have you been good enough to get into Heaven?” to which their answers were a resounding “Oh yes!”. When we asked “Why?” We then knew instantly they were not trusting in Jesus for Salvation, but themselves and their own goodness. More than that, they had a standard of goodness that was far below that of the Lord Jesus Christ. Most thought that their own good deeds would far outweigh their bad deeds and that God would look at their whole life and see they were more good than bad. Sadly we could see they had been trusting in a false Gospel, which gave them a false assurance.

It’s a common misconception amongst church going people today, that if they “try their best”, then God will just wave them through into glory in Heaven. How often have we heard on the streets, “I try my best to be good”… Of course we should try our best, but we should never rely or depend upon our own goodness to get into Heaven.

My friends, Satan loves it when people are kept in the darkness about their spiritual condition before a holy and righteous God. Yes God is loving and forgiving, but He’s also just and in His righteousness, He must punish every single sin. Sin has it’s wages and God is so faithful that He must give sin it’s due. If anyone was to appear before Him, trusting in their own goodness, their good works, He would then simply show them their SIN and turn them away from Heaven. (No SINNER can enter into the Kingdom of God).

Helping People SEE their NEED for Jesus:

So Through The Right Use Of God’s LAW: We, with the inward working of the Holy Spirit, bringing the Conscience back to life, in those we witnessed to, we used God’s LAW (Revealed in the Ten Commandments) to show a person their NEED for Jesus.

Romans 3:9-20
9 What shall we conclude then? Are we any better? Not at all! We have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin. (We’ve ALL sinned and fallen short of God’s Glory).
10  As it is written: “There is no-one righteous, not even one; (Nobody is good enough in themselves for Heaven).
11  there is no-one who understands, no-one who seeks God. (We can only come to God if He pulls us to Himself).
12  All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no-one who does good, not even one.” (Even the best things that we do are tainted by some kinds of selfish motives).
13  “Their throats are open graves; their tongues practise deceit.” “The poison of vipers is on their lips.”
14  “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”
15  “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16  ruin and misery mark their ways,
17  and the way of peace they do not know.”
18  “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
19  Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. (those who are “under the law” are anybody who is yet to trust in Jesus Christ).
20  Therefore no-one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.

It’s through the LAW of God: The Ten Commandments, that we become CONSCIOUS of our SIN.

i.e. Our Conscience comes back to life again and we can see sin for what it is: rebellion against God.

Let’s just look and see if that’s true?

  • What do you call a person who commits murder? “A Murderer”. How many murders do they need to commit in their lifetime to become a murderer? Just ONE. It’s the same with every other Commandment of God.
  • If we’ve told just one lie in our life, then we’re liars in God’s sight. He’s declared, “No liar can enter into the Kingdom of God”.
  • If we’ve stolen something, no matter what it’s value in the eyes of the world or who we’ve stolen it from, just one act of stealing makes us into a thief. God has declared, “No thief can enter into the Kingdom of God”…
  • Just one act of disobedience by Adam and Eve brought God’s curse of DEATH upon the whole human race and banishment from the Garden of Eden forever.
  • That’s just a few of the commandments: God sees the sin of lust as adultery. Saying “OMG” as Blasphemy. And we all know that no adulterer or blasphemer can enter into God’s Kingdom don’t we?

Every truly born again believer knows that in and of themselves, they are not good enough for Heaven and never will be or can be. Why? Because a converted and Holy Spirit filled person knows that even ONE SIN will keep a person out of Heaven for all eternity. We know that to enter the Kingdom of God we must be cleansed from all sin and made pure, holy and righteous by Jesus. No amount of “trying our best” can remove past sins.

Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

It’s like getting a Tattoo: it’s the indelible ink-stain of sin that cannot be removed by human actions.

Most People: (Who don’t know the LORD) Initially object that this is too black and white. They state, my god is not like that. I believe in a god that forgives sins. (So do we, but there is only ONE WAY that those sins can be forgiven, and it’s NOT by trying harder to be good enough).

However, what they are actually doing is putting their faith in a god of their own making, the Bible calls that idolatry. It breaks the second of God’s Commandments “Not to make an Idol and bow down to it”. Their idol is a god that just winks at sin like an unjust earthly judge who can be bribed. No my friends, God is much more Holy than everybody realises. The God who inspired Holy Scripture said, “NO SINNER CAN ENTER INTO GOD’S KINGDOM” He cannot wink at sin and just allow people into Heaven with sin still upon their souls. God’s punishment for sin is banishment from Heaven to a place that He’s reserved for the Devil and his Demons.

The Good News:

Thankfully, once a person is fully aware of their spiritual condition, they are in the right place then to receive the Good News of Jesus Christ.

It’s not true, that everyone is aware of how much they’ve sinned. We know that from weekly experience of sharing the Gospel on the streets in London. In fact nearly everyone we meet thinks that deep down they are ‘good enough’ for heaven. It’s only when we take the time with them to gently show them God’s standards of holiness through His Commandments. Those Commands really are like a Schoolmaster who teaches us our need for Jesus cleansing and forgiveness.

Galatians 3:24 (KJV) Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.”

They are then ready for the Good News of Jesus: That God doesn’t want to punish anyone, but that everyone might be saved by Jesus Christ. It’s why Jesus came into the world: God wants everyone to come to REPENTANCE.

1 Timothy 1:15 “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.”

HOW DOES JESUS SAVE SINNERS?

Jesus took the place of every sinner upon the cross. He died in our place. His death sets us free from God’s wrath and anger against sin.

Romans 5:8-9 (Two of my favourite verses in the Bible).
8  But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9  Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!

Jesus can save anyone from their sins and deliver them from God’s wrath and anger against sin.

But we must do something to be SET FREE from God’s wrath against our sins.

We must TRUST in Christ’s Death & Turn to Him in Repentance and Faith to Receive Him as Lord.

It like coming to this understanding: “Father God, I know now that I’ve broken Your Commandments and I’ve sinned against You, I’m a sinner in Your sight and deserve Your just punishment for my rebellion. I also know that Jesus Christ, Your One and Only Son, died in my place upon the Cross. I now turn to You Lord Jesus and ask for your forgiveness. I confess my sins to You Lord (Name them) and I turn away from all sin in my life (repentance). I receive You Lord Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. Please Lord, come into my life and give me the promised New Life. Let me be born again by Your Holy Spirit and become a child of God so that I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that He is my Heavenly Father. Amen”

A person must see and understand: (Even a ‘churchgoing’ or ‘religious’ person).

  • A) That they’ve sinned against God.
    B) That they need His forgiveness to enter into Heaven.
    C) No amount of ‘good’ works or deeds can bring that forgiveness.
    D) That Jesus Christ has died upon the Cross in their place, taking their punishment and paying the price of sin.
    E) That they need to turn to Jesus in repentance and faith and receive Him as Lord.
    F) When they do all that, then God will grant them New Life in Christ, New Birth of the Holy Spirit and Eternal Life.
    G) They’ll also be members of God’s Family forever. He will be their Heavenly Father. They will be His children. Saints forever.
    H) Begin to live the new life in Christ: Pray, Worship, Read God’s Word, Gather with Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others who don’t yet know Him as Lord.
    I) The Holy Spirit: Also will give them Heavenly gifts to enable them to serve God as He directs them.

A Christian is SET FREE from Sin:

Romans 6:22 “But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.”

When you are set free from sin’s ability to control your life, you are set free in Jesus to be like Him: Holy, and this leads to an assurance that you have received the gift of eternal life.

A Christian is DEAD to SIN:

Romans 6:2 “By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?”

Conclusion:

Last night was so awesome, no wonder we returned with banners flying high (not literally), but full of the JOY of the LORD.

We met a man and a woman last night, who I initially thought were father and daughter, but they’d just, at that moment, met each other after not seeing each other for over 20 years. It was amazing! The woman and man were so thankful after our conversation about the Lord.

She had been trusting in her own way to Heaven. He was a lapsed Roman Catholic who never attended church, but believed he was going to Heaven because he’d been baptised as a baby. We took the time to go through the Commandments with them and what an amazing, eye opening time it was. They both could see and understand their need for Jesus Christ. The woman even after that said, “I’ve got my own beliefs and I’m going to try my best in my own way”. Sherrie said to her “Can I just say something, I want to say this gently and respectfully, but you are trusting in your own way instead of God’s way.” She simply nodded in agreement. She responded, “I don’t think that our meeting up tonight was an accident” and continued to explain they’d not seen each other for over 20 years and how she knew she’d never be able to forget what God had just spoken to her. With warm handshakes they both thanked us so much for taking the time to stop and talk with them about the Lord. Awesome!

Share the Good News, go out in your weakness and He will fill you with His strength and you will return with banners flying high. Who knows, you may even reap some of the seeds that have been sown in their hearts by the Divine hand of Glory.

BTW: In the past when someone said, “I’m a believer” I would just say, “Praise the Lord”. Now, sometimes, the Lord prompts me to just check to see who it is they are actually trusting in; Jesus or themselves for their Salvation. More often than not these days, the LORD opens up the can of worms, empties them out and fills them with His own LOVE. Because there is ONLY ONE WAY to get into Heaven and that’s through what Jesus Christ has done to make us pure and ready for it.

BTW: Every truly born again believer will not be annoyed that you want to check they are trusting in Jesus, they’ll thank you for it, pray for you and encourage you on your way. Don’t forget to encourage them too, to share Jesus regularly.

Prayer That Moves Mountains

Good morning my friends, at our worship team meeting on Friday, one of the group, during prayer, said, “Lord, forgive our wimpy praying”… Prayer that lacks power. Prayer that has no legs in it. Prayer that doesn’t expect answers. “Oh Lord, forgive our wimpy prayers”.

Thankfully, the Word of God has a lot to say about prayer and how to ensure our prayers are answered.

Matthew 21:22 “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

What does that verse above tell us?

  • That we can get anything we want? No!
  • That God is like a genie in the lamp, that we can rub and get all our wishes to come true? No!

Just like all the great memory verses in God’s Word, we must look at this verse in it’s context to understand what our Lord Jesus was saying.

Why is context important? Because, someone who prays, believing that he or she will get an answer to that prayer, and doesn’t get what he or she wants is going to be bitterly disappointed and may give up on prayer or the Lord very quickly.

Matthew 21:18-22
18 Early in the morning, as he (Jesus) was on his way back to the city, he was hungry.
19  Seeing a fig-tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.
20  When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig-tree wither so quickly?” they asked.
21  Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig-tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.
22  If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

Jesus was hungry: He expected to be fed by a fig tree. He said to it (as if it had ears or a mind and will to understand) “May you never bear fruit again!” That fig tree withered instantly.

Then Jesus explained about faith and answered prayer: “If you have faith and don’t doubt and if you believe; then you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer”… The keys to answered prayer: faith, belief and not doubting.

Remember what Jesus said to Thomas? “Stop doubting and believe” (John 20:27)… After Jesus rose from the dead he appeared first to all the disciples apart from Thomas. Church historians record that Thomas went on to become the Apostle who travelled to India and established one of the oldest and longest surviving groups of Christians in the world. He obviously did stop doubting and believed.

The Cursing of the Fig Tree:

Why did Jesus curse the fig tree?

Most Bible commentators believe that this cursing of the fig tree is symbolic. I do believe that too, because the evidence from Scripture is compelling; the Fig Tree is Symbolic of the Nation of Israel.

When did Jesus curse the fig tree?

It happened a week before Passover, and was during the last few days of Jesus’ life. It was very early in the season for figs, but because figs grow before the leaves come, Jesus would have expected to find some figs on the tree. In the UK we normally only get one crop of figs, but in the right climate and growing conditions, people who grow figs can get three crops in a whole year from fig trees. When Jesus saw the leaves on the tree He expected to find fruit too.

What was happening around the time Jesus cursed the fig tree?

When Jesus arrived in Jerusalem, the people wanted to make Him King, but Jesus went to the Temple: What did He find there? Instead of pure religion it was a joke. People were buying and selling in the Temple. He got angry and turned over the tables and made a whip to drive people out of God’s House.

When he arrived he expected to find: PURE RELIGION: (to eat fruit from the fig tree).

  • The Fig Tree: Looked Good: (Had green leaves).
  • The Temple: Looked Good, had all the trappings of religion; Sacrifices, Robes, Magnificent Building.

However, just like the fig tree, the Temple was BARREN: Dead religion, faithless religiosity. Faithless religion is just as bad as pagan witchcraft. People performed their religious chants, followed religiously their duties, said the right prayers, thinking that because of the words and the way they are performed God is obliged to do their bidding. It’s just EMPTY and FAITHLESS religiosity. It was never meant to be what was said or how it was performed, pure religion was always meant to come for a heart that really wants to please God and from a people who wanted to live with God and in accordance with His will.

The Cursed Fig Tree: is a WARNING:

Not just to Israel, but to every follower of Jesus today: He’s looking for you to bear fruit in your daily walk with Him.

If you are not being fruitful, then your faith is as good a dead.

Repent or Perish:  Luke 13:1-9 (Repent or Perish).
1 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.
2  Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way?
3  I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.
4  Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem?
5  I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”
6  Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig-tree, planted in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it, but did not find any. 7  So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig-tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’
8  ” ‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig round it and fertilise it. 9  If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’ “

Matthew 3:7-12 Produce The Fruit Of True Repentance. 
7  But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptising, he said to them: “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
8  Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.
9  And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
10  The axe is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
11  “I baptise you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
12  His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing-floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

Without FAITH it is impossible to please God.

How to get this ‘mountain moving’ faith.

Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

Hebrews 11 is the great chapter on FAITH: It tells us about the faith of; Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Rahab (the Prostitute).

The writer of Hebrews then goes onto explain: How he didn’t have the time to write about all the others who demonstrated great faith (but we have their stories in the Bible too).  Hebrews 11:32-34 “And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets, 33  who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34  quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.”

Answered Prayer: We Must BELIEVE and KNOW that God REWARDS those who earnestly seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6).

Without FAITH it is impossible to please God.

What was Jesus doing when He cursed the fig tree?

He was showing God’s displeasure when there is a lack of real FAITH in Israel. That Israel would one day be crushed (It was a few years later when Jerusalem was sacked by the Romans).

However, True faith will result in a fruitful life.

For the follower of Jesus we will be bearing much fruit in our daily walk with the Lord.

  • He’s looking for you to be fruitful.
  • He’s expecting you to be fruitful.
  • He wants you to be fruitful.

The fruit of the Holy Spirit is; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

How’s your fruit doing?

If you are like me, like an ordinary human being, you’ll readily admit that there are areas in your life that you need to be more fruitful; more loving, kind, generous, faithful etc… Except if you are a Christian, then you are NOT like an ordinary human being, because you’ve got the Holy Spirit living within you. You’ve got the POWER of God in your soul. Your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit (the dwelling place of God). Jesus is in you. Father God is in you. Heaven is in your heart. You are a member of God’s Kingdom Family. You are a Royal child of God. Heir to the Kingdom. Now, how’s your faith?

If Jesus was to walk up to you today, as He did that good looking fig tree, full of the promise of fruit, would He find FAITH alive and well within your soul?

If you don’t doubt, or stop doubting and believe; you can do anything as a follower of Jesus.

If you have faith, no mountain will be able to stand in your way.

How do we get more faith?

It comes by exercising the faith we’ve already got.

It’s the same as the muscles in your body, if you don’t do any exercise your muscles will deteriorate, you’ll get weaker and your bones will not stay together very well. Strong muscles are good for your whole body. Faith in every area of the Christian life needs to be exercised:

  • To be stronger: We need to practice the walk: Give generously; to people and especially to God. This shows we’re not trusting in money, but in God. We showing God and the world that we LOVE God more than money by giving it away generously. Once you start to give generously, your faith in the Lord will grow much stronger.
  • To be stronger: We need to practice the walk: BE MORE LOVING: Love the people God brings into your daily life. Be kind in the way that you talk to everybody. Being loving and kind is costly, but when you do it with determination and seeking God’s help and power to be more loving, then you’ll get much stronger in your faith and walk with Jesus.
  • To be stronger: We need to practice the walk: Stop gossiping and back-stabbing, work hard for your boss, share the Gospel as much as you can, give generously, go out of your way to help other people, speak up for the weak, those in need, the poor.

When you PRACTICE the FAITH you’ve already received, then your faith will grow much stronger day by day. You’ll learn to TRUST God more and you’ll expect much more to be done as your prayer life gets more sincere and expectant. As your intimacy with Father God grows ever closer, you’ll experience what divine dependency is like. You’ll bear MUCH fruit. God LOVES to give even more than you do. He’s longing to answer ALL your prayers, but you’ll never get a single prayer answered without FAITH and BELIEF. To stop your doubting, start living the way He’s revealed, empowered and called you to live. Be filled afresh today with God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (John 17:26).

If you are praying for something and not seeing any answers yet, start living the way He’s revealed in the Bible. Be the person that Jesus saved you to be: Full of faith and faithful to Him.

PRAYER: “Oh LORD, forgive our wimpy prayers, strengthen our faith, help us to bear fruit in our lives and our walk with You. Enable us by Your Holy Spirit to walk with You today Lord. Help us to see with Your eyes the potential for good all around us. Lord give us the ability to make the most of all the opportunities You are giving us today. Amen!”

Most probably, the first MOUNTAIN that you’ll see thrown into the sea is your wimpy prayers. Be strong in the LORD.

Preaching The Good News: It’s Fantastic!

Good morning my friends, we came back rejoicing last night after being out on the streets of West Norwood sharing the Good News of Jesus. Though, like our fellow believers throughout the world, we must endure many hardships, our momentary troubles are nothing compared to the eternal joy of knowing that the Lord will use our efforts to save some from certain destruction in Hell.

Acts 14:21-22 “They preached the good news in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, 22  strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.”

We were joined by Daniella last night, it was her first time out sharing Jesus with folks. She really did come back rejoicing, because she knew she’d planted the seed of God’s Word in people’s hearts. She noted that there were ‘believers’ in Jesus, who were still trusting in their own good works to enter into heaven rather than upon the finished work of the Lord Jesus on the Cross.

The reason we’ve got so many FALSE CONVERTS in West Norwood is because of the preaching in many places of a false Gospel message: It goes something like this, “Do you want to have true; joy, satisfaction, happiness and lasting peace in your life? (Who doesn’t?) Then accept Jesus into your heart and you will be saved”… They then tell people Jesus died for sinners and lead them through the so called “Sinner’s Prayer”. Once people ‘pray that prayer’ they tell them they are Christians and encourage them to get baptised in their church, attend worship and pay their membership fees. Yes my friends, “membership fees”. They gladly do that though, thinking they’re adding to their salvation by paying the price themselves. Then they’ll try and live a good life under the anointing of the Holy Spirit which is dished out by the ‘Anointed Man of God’.

How do we know this? We meet people from these churches every week on the streets. We only need talk for a few minutes to ascertain their true spiritual condition; false converts. Do you know my friends, even false converts overflow with JOY once they hear the true Gospel of Jesus? Why? Because it makes complete sense. They are also shocked that they hadn’t heard that message in their own church before and saddened that they’d been trusting in a false message, sometimes for many years.

MANY CONVERSATIONS:

Last night we got back and shared with each other about the people we’d shared Jesus with; Three Muslim young men, a Buddhist, a son of a Roman Catholic Priest (hardened against and bitter about the message of Christianity), many non-Christians and countless false converts. We also met with some real followers of Jesus from a Portuguese fellowship, and another church in West Norwood. Praise the Lord! We chatted with people at a bus-stop who said, “I’m a believer, but I don’t need to go to church”. Two teenage girls, one who wanted to go, but her friend wanted to stay and chat because her mum was a committed Christian. As we shared the Gospel she knew what she had to do to be saved, but hadn’t done it all. She told us of confessing her sin and asking for forgiveness, but her life hadn’t changed. We were able, in a few short minutes to show how she needed to trust in Jesus Christ and the reasons why. She walked away last night with assurance that when she fully trusts in Jesus Christ she will be saved, also that we’d pray for her poorly mother Denise. (Will you pray for Denise? She’s a real Christian who loves the Lord, shares the Gospel regularly with her daughter, but is too poorly to attend fellowship meetings. A tear came to the young girls eyes when I said, “I’m going to be praying for your mummy”…

I can’t write about all the conversations, but we know the LORD will use every word planted in the dear folks of West Norwood’s hearts last night.

Yes there were some hardships last night, some people were not interested at all, some took a tract and returned it immediately once they heard it was a Christian message, but be encouraged dear friends, because many more received tracts with joy, some with a smile, some asked for more so they could share them with friends. We had lots of conversations last night that led to a full presentation of the Good News, that’s our aim when we go out in the power of Jesus. Not just to give out tracts, but to engage people with the Good News.

What is the Gospel Message: The Good News that we shared last night?

Quickly: We share how people need Jesus because everyone has sinned against God by going against their own conscience’s alarm bells and breaking His Commandments by; lying, stealing, lusting (adultery), idolatry (making up a God in their own minds that will allow them to get away with sin), being disobedient to their parents. As people hear HOW they’ve sinned against God, then the GREAT NEWS suddenly makes complete sense: Jesus died upon the Cross to take our punishment upon Himself. He died in our place upon the Cross so that we can be saved on the Day of Judgement. God will give us a new heart and a new start in life once we put our trust in Jesus Christ for our Salvation. He’ll also give us assurance of a place in Heaven for all eternity. We’ll gladly serve the Lord with our lives, not because we’re trying to be ‘good enough’ but because of His love and gratitude because of what Jesus did to save us.

We use illustrations to show people how to trust Jesus:

The Parachute: You wouldn’t jump out of a plane without one, because the law of gravity means we’d plunge to our death. In the same way, if we jump of planet earth when we die without a Saviour, then the Law of God means we’ll face His just and righteous judgement for our sins, we’ll be carrying them ourselves and the weight of them will take us all the way to Hell.

The Chicken That’s Gone Bad:

We share with folks that it makes sense that God cannot allow contaminated sinners into His Holy Heaven.

No one in their right mind would put a piece of rotten chicken in their fridge with the good, fresh chicken would they?

We ask people, “If you got home from the Supermarket and found that a piece of Chicken you’d just bought was rotten, stinking rotten. Would you put that piece in the fridge beside good pieces of chicken? They always answer, “No Way!” We ask them, “What would you do with that stinking rotten piece of Chicken?” They always answer, “I’d throw it in the bin”.

So the LORD cannot allow rotten sinners, who’ve broken His Commandments, into His Heavenly Dwelling Place, because we’d contaminate Heaven. God’s Wrath and Anger abides on anyone who tries to enter into Heaven with their sins still on them.

So we need to have our sins removed. The Good News: Only the blood of Jesus Christ, His Death upon the Cross, can remove our sins from us. He died in order that we might be cleansed from ALL SIN. He took our place upon the Cross for our sins.

AND MANY MORE 🙂

You should see people’s faces:

When you open up a person’s understanding, so that they can at last see their true Spiritual condition before God, they’ll be and are amazed at the good news of Jesus Christ. They’ll thank you! They did last night and they do every time we get into a conversation that leads to a full presentation of the Gospel. Non-Christians thank us, back-sliders say, “This is a wake-up-call”, we also cause Atheists to back-slide into belief in God.

But: Acts 14:21-22 “They preached the good news in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, 22  strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.

We MUST go through many hardships in order that some may enter into the Kingdom of God.

We GO, but we come back REJOICING.

Why? Because, the LORD has been with us. He’s drawing people to Himself. The Holy Spirit is a work in people’s hearts the moment we open our mouth for Jesus. We’ve seen the TRUTH of the Bible’s Teaching: that “FAITH COMES BY HEARING” ( Romans 10:17 “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”

Can I encourage you, if you are a follower of Jesus Christ reading this message today, to GO and share your faith in the Lord Jesus? Everyone needs to HEAR the Gospel, some will be saved, others warned about God’s judgement to come, many encouraged in their walk with Jesus. But GO, because Jesus told you to share His Gospel Message. Go because your own faith and understanding will grow.

Philemon 1:6 “I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.”

When we SHARE THE FAITH (The whole Gospel of Jesus Christ) our UNDERSTANDING of it increases. All the good things that we have in Christ make our hearts leap for JOY.

But most importantly GO because, Jesus came into this world to SAVE SINNERS. His hearts desire is that many more will be saved. He died in order that people get saved. He died because of His love for people. Let’s SAVE as many as we can for Jesus sake. Amen!

So Endure The Hardships with JOY.

Be at peace with Jesus today.

Things that will KEEP People OUT of Heaven.

Revelation 22:14-15 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15  Outside are the dogs, those who practise magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practises falsehood.”

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10  nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11  And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Galatians 5:19-21 “The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20  idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21  and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Ephesians 5:5-7 “For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a man is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6  Let no-one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7  Therefore do not be partners with them.

Daily Spirit & Word: 619: How To ‘THINK’ God’s Way.

He’s Encouraging You Today: Your Anxiety is Going to Be Removed: Peace will come into your heart and mind today.

 

Philippians 4:6-9
6  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
7  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8  Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
9  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Good morning my friends, I hope you remembered to put your clocks back an hour. It’s great to have an extra hour in bed once a year or an extra hour anyway. Imagine if they did it with a whole day? At midnight on a Saturday night, they decided to put the clocks back 24 hours so that it suddenly becomes midnight on a Friday… Wouldn’t that be brilliant? Or perhaps it would be better to do it on a Sunday, then for two days in a row we could gather together to worship the Lord. Which would you prefer? A Saturday shift or a Sunday? It’s never going to happen, but how we answer reveals something to us: How we would long to spend time and what our attractions in life are.

DO NOT BE ANXIOUS ABOUT ANYTHING

Following on from the teaching about DISASTER and learning not to WORRY, here, once again, we are reminded in such a loving way by the Lord through Paul not to get all anxious about anything.

I know, it’s easy to say, but so hard to do or to put into practice, but you can do it with the help of Jesus.

ANXIOUS: (Don’t Worry NLT and “Be Careful for nothing” KJV) Anxious in the NIV is a good choice of word.

Paul had already demonstrated to the Philippians exactly HOW to do what he revealing here: (Acts 16:16-40).

When in Philippi he and Silas were arrested, beaten severely and thrown into prison. What did he do? He and his companions began to sing and praise the Lord in the Prison. He could instead have been worried, moaned about his bruises and bleeding, fretted over how long they would keep him in prison, but NO! Instead of being anxious about the situation, Paul begins to praise the LORD. So much praise that the chains fall-off and Prison Guard gets converted. Awesome example!

What are we to do when we’re experiencing PRESSURES IN LIFE?

“in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

The Philippian Christians were experiencing severe pressures at the time; from both those not yet converted and also within the fellowship.

How did Paul want them to learn not to be ANXIOUS?

  • By PRAYER: Talk to God about it.
  • By PETITION: Take all your troubles to Jesus.
  • With THANKSGIVING: Praise the Lord, Sing Hymns / Songs of Praise and Thanks.
  • PRESENT: “present your requests to God”… Lay them all out before the LORD.

What is is that you want God to do for you right now? Then pray, petition and thank Him, laying your requests at the feet of the King. He’ll take those requests to His heart, because you are his precious child and He loves you.

What happens once we do that? The Lord reveals through Paul what happens “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

That phrase ‘transcends all understanding’ jumps RIGHT out at me today. Once you’ve prayed, petitioned and thanked the Lord and presented your requests to Him, then such a peace will come into your heart and mind, that you’ll wonder how it’s possible even in dire straits not to be worried.

What happened to Paul and Silas when they were in Prison and they Praised the Lord? Their chains fell off (Acts 16:26) Notice it wasn’t just the chains of Paul and Silas that fell off that day, but also all the other prisoners chains fell of too and the Guard came to know the Lord Jesus Christ that night as well. AWESOME… You are going to have such a PEACE when you take your troubles to Jesus. It will be a PEACE that will bring comfort to your heart and mind. It will be a PEACE that will also impact the lives of those around about you too.

THE WORLD WORRIES: THE WORLD GETS ANXIOUS.

To the world, we should always be worried, but you’ll experience a DIVINE PEACE in the midst of the storm.

Instead of loosing your head, running around like a headless chicken, flapping and getting into a state, you’ll be in a state of complete PEACE. HOW? Because you’ve taken it all to the LORD and then the floodgates of heaven have opened-up and drenched your heart with His PEACE… JOY UNSPEAKABLE floods your soul. and suddenly; worry, anxiety, drama is removed and you are at PEACE.

It’s such an amazing feeling: I’ve had that so many times in life my friends: When disaster strikes, and it will, every follower of Jesus Christ can sail through the storm, when every other ship would run for a safe harbour, the Christian can ride the storm in PEACE. Yes storms will come, but perhaps the LORD is teaching you in the STORM that you can still be a complete PEACE of heart and mind.

Once you are at PEACE: Your thinking will be transformed: You’ll be able to THINK like a BELIEVER: “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:9.

True, Noble, Right, Pure, Lovely, Admirable, Excellent, Praisworthy: Think, dwell upon, meditate, concentrate, ponder about these things.

It’s like when you hear a great piece of news, passing it on to others, thinking deeply about it.

Our society tends to do completely the opposite of this advice the Lord has given us through Paul: It thinks, dwells upon, meditates, concentrates and ponders; disasters, murders, thefts, floods, market crashes, broken toys, who’s leaving who, gossiping, etc… That’s how the world thinks: Watch the BBC News: There’s not much focus upon the TRUTH, NOBLE things in life, Right, Pure, Lovely or Admirable or Praiseworthy things. Normally, they’ll have just ONE feel-good story as a short tag at the end of the news broadcast. It’s as if the STORMS in the world and around about us are more important than ALL the good that’s going on. It’s NOT!

I’m sure there are many more wholesome things that could be getting far more attention. Imagine if they had a live-broadcast of people helping out at the foodbank? or if they were to be there with a camera when you didn’t respond with road-rage, but let the other driver out or overtake. The Camera always seems to focus upon the STORMS in life instead.

Remember the Song / Hymn: “I Surrender All”?

All to Jesus I surrender, I surrender all.

Oh my friends, let us take it ALL to Jesus right now.

All our troubles, fears, worries and anxieties in life.

Let’s be different from the World:

Lets dare to be different and even when disaster, hardship or trouble does come our way, then we will be able to sail through the storm in complete peace of heart and mind in Jesus, because we’ve taken them immediately to Jesus: with prayer, petition and thanksgiving. Perhaps, like Paul and Silas, we’ll see those chains fall off ourselves and all those living around about us too.

Prayer: We all know friends, family and neighbours who’re going through storms at the moment. Let’s pray for them now and encourage them to take their troubles to Jesus:

Dear Lord Jesus, I know you want us to bring EVERYTHING we’re going through in life to You. Please help us to learn to let go and let You deal with the storm. It’s hard to take our eyes off the waves Lord, but we know that when we present all our troubles to you, the storms will die down and we will be a peace in our heart and mind today. We know that it will be in such a way that it will transcend all understanding. Help us to pray Lord! Help us all to let go!” In Your Name, Lord Jesus, we pray. Amen!
