Believers NEED Holy Spirit

Daily Spirit & Word, 623: Joyful Worship.

“Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Good morning my friends, I had an amazing day-off work yesterday with the grandchildren, sometimes it’s Papa’s only function but to be the Horse. Have you ever had three kids all trying to get onto your back at the same time? In the evening we welcomed our Worship Team for a meeting here at the Vicarage. What an amazing and dedicated group of folks we have, they all love the Lord and want to serve Him with their gifts.

We chatted about our Worship, our struggles, our joys, our dreams for what great worship will, could and can be. Everyone shared what it was that made worship connect with the Lord for them. Also what puts them off. Some loved the old time hymns others modern contemporary worship songs and styles. Some felt the ancient hymns had impenetrable language, which is a barrier to understanding for people today.

Everyone wanted to see more people involved in our worship, especially the young folks in the church. We all want to encourage those who can sing or play an instrument to use those gifts in serving Jesus.

  • I’ve been thinking about WORSHIP in Church for some time.
  • I’ve been praying for MORE: Worshippers who LOVE the Lord with all their heart.
  • I’ve been praying for MORE: Worship that makes everyone FEEL they’ve connected and been in the presence of Jesus.
  • I’ve been praying for MORE: Worship that brings the Lord’s touch in our lives. 

Ephesians 5:17-19

17  Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

18  Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

19  Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,

Note: Verse 17. The wise and foolish.

  • The Wise Person: Understands what the Lord’s will is.
  • The Foolish Person: Doesn’t Understand the Lord’s will. 

When you see a ‘therefore‘ in the Bible, you need to ask yourself, “What is that therefore there for?” 🙂  🙄

To really understand these verses we need to read them in context and go back to find the meaning of the ‘therefore’.

Back in verse 14 of this chapter we read; Ephesians 5:14 “for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: “Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Ushering IN the LIGHT: Worship that Ignites.

THE SLEEPING PERSON:

Light awakens the sleeping: Shine a torch in someone’s eyes when they’re asleep and they’ll soon be awake. That’s often how we were woken-up for our turn on Watch in the Navy. The person would shine a torch in your eyes and wake you up instantly.

My friends, who are those who are spiritually dead? Most people in the world are as sleeping men when it comes to walking in the light of God. They are living in the darkness of spiritual sleep and spiritual death. However, we must also NOTE that this letter was written to BELIEVERS in Jesus. Far too often our brothers and sisters in Christ are living like the people in the world that don’t know the Lord, they are living and walking in the darkness. They need the LIGHT of Christ to shine afresh into their lives again. Worship does that! Worship that ushers in the LIGHT is what we all need.

When we gather together and WORSHIP the LORD: According to HIS Will, then the LIGHT of Christ will shine upon us. Awesome!

So the instructions in verses 17 to 19 suddenly makes sense. We’re to be WISE knowing the LORD’S will. Not doing what the world does, but being filled afresh with Holy Spirit of God. But it also tells us HOW that will happen, HOW we will get the LORD’S Will into our lives and let the light shine in our darkness. “Speak to one another with psalms (spiritual poetry), hymns (songs with theological / teaching content about God, Jesus, Holy Spirit) and Spiritual Songs: those songs that express our love and devotion for the Lord and respond to His touch in our lives. “He loves me, Oh he loves me, and now I know” ….

When we’re worshipping the DARKNESS is replaced by LIGHT.

It’s Halloween tomorrow night, a night of deepest darkness, when the people of the world who don’t know the Lord celebrate all the darkest things in human nature; death, creepy creatures, tricks and treats. Dressing up as ghosts, ghoulish and demons. Witches and warlocks etc… They don’t really know what they are doing, they are blind, dead (spiritually). So brothers, how can we lead ourselves and others into the LIGHT of Jesus Christ? WORSHIP together, then the LIGHT will come.

CHRIST WILL SHINE ON YOU.

So, brothers and sisters, let’s NOT be drunk of wine or strong drink, but lets get FILLED UP with the Holy Spirit of God.

Being filled with the Holy Spirit was not meant to be a ONE-OFF experience for the believer, but an ongoing, daily receiving of Holy Spirit.

Jesus tells us that it’s God the Father’s will to give you the Holy Spirit.

Luke 11:13 Asking for the Holy Spirit. “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

HOW DO we get filled with the HOLY SPIRIT?

For believers it’s Worship: Look with me at the Book of Acts: They ASKED to be Filled.

Acts 4:23-31 Prayer and Praise Ushers in a Move of God and Filling with the Holy Spirit Again.
23  On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.
24  When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. 25  You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David: ” ‘Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 26  The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against his Anointed One.’ 27  Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed.
28  They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen.
29  Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.
30  Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
31  After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

They asked, Father God Responded:

He gives the Holy Spirit Today!

 

NOTE: These people who were filled with the Holy Spirit, had already experienced the filling of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. It was NEVER meant to be a one-off experience my friends, but an ongoing reality for every believer. We will be filled, God wants to fill us and set us on fire with His Holy Anointing of the Holy Spirit. Worship Him right now, seeking this new filling of the Holy Spirit, cry out as the disciples did above and ask for it, He’ll give you the Holy Spirit my friends.

BE FILLED: Go on being filled.

That’s what this verse in Ephesians 5:18 really means in the Greek language; “go on being filled”…

WORSHIP:

I’m looking forward to worship together with all our brothers and sisters in the Lord Jesus on Sunday. Tomorrow we’re gathering together to watch a ‘good’ movie “God’s NOT Dead”. Being together in Fellowship is fantastic!

Pray for my worship team; they need every encouragement we can give them, because they sing and play and lead us all in our singing. Pray that each one of us will be FILLED AFRESH with Holy Spirit and ANOINTED for worship, preaching, teaching, and everything else the LORD wants us to do when we gather together.

But it’s not just for them, each and every believer needs an awareness that we ALL NEED Holy Spirit daily.

Have you been filled with the Holy Spirit today?

Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.

The LIGHT of Christ will then come.

P.S. Last night we read Psalm 100:

For those of us with Jesus, we don’t have a temple, our bodies are the Temple of the Holy Spirit. We can approach the Holy of Holies in the same way though.

1  Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.

2  Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.

3  Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

4  Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

5  For the LORD is good and his love endures for ever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Enter into His Presence with: Thanksgiving.

Enter into His Courts (Closer) with PRAISE.

The LIGHT of Christ will shine on your.

Preaching The Good News: It’s Fantastic!

Good morning my friends, we came back rejoicing last night after being out on the streets of West Norwood sharing the Good News of Jesus. Though, like our fellow believers throughout the world, we must endure many hardships, our momentary troubles are nothing compared to the eternal joy of knowing that the Lord will use our efforts to save some from certain destruction in Hell.

Acts 14:21-22 “They preached the good news in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, 22  strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.”

We were joined by Daniella last night, it was her first time out sharing Jesus with folks. She really did come back rejoicing, because she knew she’d planted the seed of God’s Word in people’s hearts. She noted that there were ‘believers’ in Jesus, who were still trusting in their own good works to enter into heaven rather than upon the finished work of the Lord Jesus on the Cross.

The reason we’ve got so many FALSE CONVERTS in West Norwood is because of the preaching in many places of a false Gospel message: It goes something like this, “Do you want to have true; joy, satisfaction, happiness and lasting peace in your life? (Who doesn’t?) Then accept Jesus into your heart and you will be saved”… They then tell people Jesus died for sinners and lead them through the so called “Sinner’s Prayer”. Once people ‘pray that prayer’ they tell them they are Christians and encourage them to get baptised in their church, attend worship and pay their membership fees. Yes my friends, “membership fees”. They gladly do that though, thinking they’re adding to their salvation by paying the price themselves. Then they’ll try and live a good life under the anointing of the Holy Spirit which is dished out by the ‘Anointed Man of God’.

How do we know this? We meet people from these churches every week on the streets. We only need talk for a few minutes to ascertain their true spiritual condition; false converts. Do you know my friends, even false converts overflow with JOY once they hear the true Gospel of Jesus? Why? Because it makes complete sense. They are also shocked that they hadn’t heard that message in their own church before and saddened that they’d been trusting in a false message, sometimes for many years.

MANY CONVERSATIONS:

Last night we got back and shared with each other about the people we’d shared Jesus with; Three Muslim young men, a Buddhist, a son of a Roman Catholic Priest (hardened against and bitter about the message of Christianity), many non-Christians and countless false converts. We also met with some real followers of Jesus from a Portuguese fellowship, and another church in West Norwood. Praise the Lord! We chatted with people at a bus-stop who said, “I’m a believer, but I don’t need to go to church”. Two teenage girls, one who wanted to go, but her friend wanted to stay and chat because her mum was a committed Christian. As we shared the Gospel she knew what she had to do to be saved, but hadn’t done it all. She told us of confessing her sin and asking for forgiveness, but her life hadn’t changed. We were able, in a few short minutes to show how she needed to trust in Jesus Christ and the reasons why. She walked away last night with assurance that when she fully trusts in Jesus Christ she will be saved, also that we’d pray for her poorly mother Denise. (Will you pray for Denise? She’s a real Christian who loves the Lord, shares the Gospel regularly with her daughter, but is too poorly to attend fellowship meetings. A tear came to the young girls eyes when I said, “I’m going to be praying for your mummy”…

I can’t write about all the conversations, but we know the LORD will use every word planted in the dear folks of West Norwood’s hearts last night.

Yes there were some hardships last night, some people were not interested at all, some took a tract and returned it immediately once they heard it was a Christian message, but be encouraged dear friends, because many more received tracts with joy, some with a smile, some asked for more so they could share them with friends. We had lots of conversations last night that led to a full presentation of the Good News, that’s our aim when we go out in the power of Jesus. Not just to give out tracts, but to engage people with the Good News.

What is the Gospel Message: The Good News that we shared last night?

Quickly: We share how people need Jesus because everyone has sinned against God by going against their own conscience’s alarm bells and breaking His Commandments by; lying, stealing, lusting (adultery), idolatry (making up a God in their own minds that will allow them to get away with sin), being disobedient to their parents. As people hear HOW they’ve sinned against God, then the GREAT NEWS suddenly makes complete sense: Jesus died upon the Cross to take our punishment upon Himself. He died in our place upon the Cross so that we can be saved on the Day of Judgement. God will give us a new heart and a new start in life once we put our trust in Jesus Christ for our Salvation. He’ll also give us assurance of a place in Heaven for all eternity. We’ll gladly serve the Lord with our lives, not because we’re trying to be ‘good enough’ but because of His love and gratitude because of what Jesus did to save us.

We use illustrations to show people how to trust Jesus:

The Parachute: You wouldn’t jump out of a plane without one, because the law of gravity means we’d plunge to our death. In the same way, if we jump of planet earth when we die without a Saviour, then the Law of God means we’ll face His just and righteous judgement for our sins, we’ll be carrying them ourselves and the weight of them will take us all the way to Hell.

The Chicken That’s Gone Bad:

We share with folks that it makes sense that God cannot allow contaminated sinners into His Holy Heaven.

No one in their right mind would put a piece of rotten chicken in their fridge with the good, fresh chicken would they?

We ask people, “If you got home from the Supermarket and found that a piece of Chicken you’d just bought was rotten, stinking rotten. Would you put that piece in the fridge beside good pieces of chicken? They always answer, “No Way!” We ask them, “What would you do with that stinking rotten piece of Chicken?” They always answer, “I’d throw it in the bin”.

So the LORD cannot allow rotten sinners, who’ve broken His Commandments, into His Heavenly Dwelling Place, because we’d contaminate Heaven. God’s Wrath and Anger abides on anyone who tries to enter into Heaven with their sins still on them.

So we need to have our sins removed. The Good News: Only the blood of Jesus Christ, His Death upon the Cross, can remove our sins from us. He died in order that we might be cleansed from ALL SIN. He took our place upon the Cross for our sins.

AND MANY MORE 🙂

You should see people’s faces:

When you open up a person’s understanding, so that they can at last see their true Spiritual condition before God, they’ll be and are amazed at the good news of Jesus Christ. They’ll thank you! They did last night and they do every time we get into a conversation that leads to a full presentation of the Gospel. Non-Christians thank us, back-sliders say, “This is a wake-up-call”, we also cause Atheists to back-slide into belief in God.

But: Acts 14:21-22 “They preached the good news in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, 22  strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.

We MUST go through many hardships in order that some may enter into the Kingdom of God.

We GO, but we come back REJOICING.

Why? Because, the LORD has been with us. He’s drawing people to Himself. The Holy Spirit is a work in people’s hearts the moment we open our mouth for Jesus. We’ve seen the TRUTH of the Bible’s Teaching: that “FAITH COMES BY HEARING” ( Romans 10:17 “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”

Can I encourage you, if you are a follower of Jesus Christ reading this message today, to GO and share your faith in the Lord Jesus? Everyone needs to HEAR the Gospel, some will be saved, others warned about God’s judgement to come, many encouraged in their walk with Jesus. But GO, because Jesus told you to share His Gospel Message. Go because your own faith and understanding will grow.

Philemon 1:6 “I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.”

When we SHARE THE FAITH (The whole Gospel of Jesus Christ) our UNDERSTANDING of it increases. All the good things that we have in Christ make our hearts leap for JOY.

But most importantly GO because, Jesus came into this world to SAVE SINNERS. His hearts desire is that many more will be saved. He died in order that people get saved. He died because of His love for people. Let’s SAVE as many as we can for Jesus sake. Amen!

So Endure The Hardships with JOY.

Be at peace with Jesus today.

Things that will KEEP People OUT of Heaven.

Revelation 22:14-15 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15  Outside are the dogs, those who practise magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practises falsehood.”

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10  nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11  And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Galatians 5:19-21 “The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20  idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21  and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Ephesians 5:5-7 “For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a man is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6  Let no-one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7  Therefore do not be partners with them.

Learning from the Old Time Preachers.

Preaching & Preachers: Encouragement.

Getting Inspired: So that you too can inspire others to come to Christ.

It’s been such a wonderful blessing for me to find a man of God after God’s own heart and to learn from him, be encouraged by him and to be equipped by him. But for me it’s not just ONE, because there are so many wonderful preachers, teachers, evangelists and prophets and pastors and apostles around today, and we must never forget those great eminent preachers of the past. Some of whom had amazing ministries in their day. Charles Spurgeon; who was know in his own lifetime as “The Prince of Preachers”. Not a title that he’d choose for himself, I’m sure.

MINISTERS OF GOD’S WORD:

Here are some who’ve encouraged me over many years as a Christian and a Minister:

J. C. Ryle; I read his expository thoughts on the Gospels every day for three years. What a wonderful encouragement they were through college.

Selwyn Hughes: As a very young Christian his writings helped me get into God’s Word every day; reading “Every Day With Jesus”.

Billy Graham: Evangelist.

Bill Bright: Campus Crusade For Christ.

Ray Comfort: Evangelist and teacher of evangelism. Equipping the saints to share God’s Word today.

John Stott: A brilliant preacher and teacher of God’s Word. Also a voice for Evangelicals within the C of E.

Adrian Rogers, John Wesley, Charles Finney, Jack Deere,

Lesser Known Men of God: Daniel Cozens (Evangelist: Started the Walk of 1000 Men) S. M. Shoemaker, Jr who wrote “Twice-Born Ministers”; Arthur Wallis, he was a Baptist preacher in the UK with a great ministry amongst the youth of his day. Derek Prince: A great prophetic speaker and teacher of God’s Word. John Wimber (Prophet and taught the Prophetic).

There are countless thousands of others I could also mention that have really encouraged me over many years, but what I’m saying is there will always be resources (resource people) to nourish the follower of Jesus; Pastors, Prophets, Preachers / Teachers, Evangelists, Apostles, etc… They are given to the church for edification, building up of the body of Christ. They are called by God and Anointed by the Holy Spirit. However, don’t worship the man or woman of God, but worship the LORD Himself, because He was the one who gave them to you.

Here are a few of the GEMSTONES from the great prince of preachers Adrian Rogers:

  • “Define the Trinity and you’ll lose your mind; deny it and you’ll lose your soul.”
  • “If a man could have salvation and not know it, he could lose it and not miss it.”
  • “If you marry a child of the devil, you’ll get the devil for a father-in-law.”
  • “Some people cannot find Jesus for the same reason a thief cannot find a cop.”
  • “Death is a comma to a Christian, not a period.”
  • “Jesus saves the best for last!”
  • “Eternity is only a breath away.”

Here’s one of my own: “This life is like a tear-drop in the Thames compared to the eternity we’ll spend with Jesus.”

I’m not saying it’s original, many of the great preachers of old got their material from other ministers and then took those great gems and passed them onto their own generations. However, there is GOLDEN TRUTH, anointed words, compelling teaching and encouragement for all the saints today. We’ve got no excuse for being malnourished and underfed today.

ONE OF THE BEST OLD TIME PREACHERS:

In the Bible we have the written account of Paul’s Missionary Journeys in the Ancient world of Greece, Syria and Macedonia. From Acts 20 we see some of his travels, but it’s not until the end of the chapter that we get to the heart of what Paul was about. Listen to his passion for the souls of those to whom the LORD sent him to declare the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Acts 20:17-24
17  From Miletus, Paul sent to Ephesus for the elders of the church.
18  When they arrived, he said to them: “You know how I lived the whole time I was with you, from the first day I came into the province of Asia. 19  I served the Lord with great humility and with tears, although I was severely tested by the plots of the Jews. 20  You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house. 21  I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus. 22  “And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. 23  I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. 24  However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.”

Paul, like many of the great preachers mentioned above, had a PASSION and DESIRE to PROCLAIM God’s Word, God’s Message and God’s Encouragements with EVERYONE. He did it PUBLICALLY (in the open) and PRIVATELY (from house to house).

What was Paul’s MESSAGE? Like those great preachers of old:  “I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.”

So we don’t really need other preachers or teachers or writers: We’ve got everything we need in God’s Word: However, thankfully, the LORD has also gifted and equipped men and women, who are just like Paul, who also know the LORD and have that same passion and desire to “declare to both Jews and Greeks (EVERYONE) that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.”

FEED & BE FED: Then “GO” FEED Others.

So my dear Christian friends, FEED yourself upon God’s Word and then let those Ministers of Jesus feed, teach, encourage, rebuke and guide you as well. Don’t forget to PRAISE the LORD and use every means to WORSHIP. Gather with the saints regularly to encourage one-another and be active in the world for Jesus. Lead your friends and family to the Lord. WHY? Because Everybody NEEDS Jesus.

Be fed by great preaching and then go and proclaim Jesus yourself.

Why? Because People NEED Jesus Christ. To really get a passion for those who don’t know Jesus learn from Ray Comfort today.

May the Lord Jesus bless, anoint and encourage you today.

Be filled afresh with the Holy Spirit and have an awesome day with the Lord Jesus Christ.

I’ll also keep on, keeping on, continuing to proclaim; “Get right with God, repent, turn to Jesus Christ, the ONLY Saviour for mankind today. Be filled with the Holy Spirit and LIVE the powerful life that He’s promised in His strength and for His glory”. Amen!

Evangelism, Miracles or Both?

Miracles or Evangelism or Both?

Good morning my friends, it’s fantastic when the LORD is speaking to you loud and clear. Yesterday we had a visit from the Gideons in church, it was good for me to listen to another man bringing God’s Word and to be fed in a different way. It was also great that the man speaking was an obvious convert to the Lord Jesus Christ. He loved the Lord and the Lord spoke through Him.

His message was about Cracked Pots: Shining the Light of the Lord. He recounted the story of Gideon’s Battle. His message was that God’s light can only sine out of the cracked pots. I was tempted to make a joke at the end of his sermon: “Let’s all be Crack Pots for Jesus”… It may have raised a smile, but it would have detracted from His brilliant message.

Before the service began I welcomed him and we chatted. He was telling me about his son’s church in Clapham, it’s a new Vineyard Church plant, they are good, Holy Spirit filled people. That church has been out on the streets of Clapham sharing Jesus and healing people. There was one slight difference in what they called their team from our team: They are called the ‘Healing On The Streets Team’, we call ours ‘The Evangelism Team’. But I’m thinking of changing it now!

What team would you be more inclined to join? The Healing On The Streets or The Evangelism Team?

It’s a no-brainer for me, but I know there’s one word that makes the vast majority of the Church quake in their boots and run for cover; it is the word EVANGELISM. Why?

Well my friends, it’s because even just thinking about going out to share Jesus with folks is scary, it’s daunting, and it’s confrontational. (of course it’s not, but that’s what people automatically believe and imagine, because they’ve swallowed the lies of Satan about Evangelism). Whilst on the other hand ‘Healing On The Streets’ sounds much more appealing, less confrontational, more powerful and has much longer lasting and more profound effects. (Of course it doesn’t, but we’re much more comfortable with the ‘miraculous’ than we are with the ordinary).

Adrian Rogers has said; “Miracles normally came in clusters in the Bible. There were miracles, obviously, in the Creation, miracles around the ministries of Moses, Elijah, and Elisha, miracles with Jesus and the apostles, and there will be end-time miracles. I do not know anybody today who has the gift of miracles, but I would certainly not deny God’s ability in that area. He’s proven it too well. However, I would rather have it said of me that many believed on Jesus through my word than that I had the power to do miracles—because that is the lasting miracle, the new birth, the greatest miracle of all.” {What Every Christian Ought to Know Day by Day: Essential Truths for Growing Your Faith.}

How About BOTH: Miracles & Conversions:

I’ve been thinking about this my friends, since yesterday 😎  and ever since I’ve been saved. 😛   Jesus commanded us to go and proclaim the Good News. He equipped us to do it by giving us the Holy Spirit and Spiritual Gifts. However, it’s also true that He wants us to perform miracles as well as proclaim the Gospel. In Mark’s Gospel the Great Commission is slightly different from Matthew’s.

  • Matthew’s Commission concentrates on “The Making of Disciples”
  • Mark’s Commission concentrates on those going out: “The Ability to Preach and Perform”.

Which is right? Since they are both from God’s Word: They are both right my friends, we are to Make Disciples and we are to Perform Miracles. That becomes obvious as we read the rest of the New Testament and discover how the first followers of Jesus lived out His Great Commission. They went out to preach the Gospel and signs and wonders accompanied the Gospel proclamation.

Therefore perhaps I’ll change the name of our outreach team to: “The Healing & Converting Team” or “The Miracle and Evangelism Team”… Whatever!

As I talked with the man about his son’s church in Clapham and listened to what he said, “They also proclaim the Gospel and pray for Healing”. I said, “We do the same, we pray for some people and we proclaim the Gospel too, some people get touched by the Lord”…

It Is Both; Gospel Proclamation & Signs and Wonders.

However, it is also what we are about:

  • Do you just want to see miracles?
  • Do you just want to see people come to Christ?

We should always want both with all our hearts; seeing people healed is AWESOME. We’ve had the privilege of seeing that as we went out to proclaim the Good News and lead people to Jesus. Seeing people come to faith and delivered from darkness, from bondage to sin and on their way to hell, that’s AWESOME too.

What does God want?

That’s the bottom-line question: What does the LORD desire? He wants ALL: He wants people everywhere to REPENT and TRUST in His Son Jesus for Salvation. That’s God’s PRIMARY (Highest agenda). He sent Jesus into this world to rescue men from Hell. He died in order to fulfil His mission. Yes he performed a few (many) miracles along the way, but His primary purpose was to SAVE. He’ll use both, miracles and proclamation of the Gospel to accomplish it. But we should never be tempted to think one is better than the other, they were always meant to accompany one another anyway.

We, both teams, the Healing Team and the Evangelism Team, were actually doing the SAME things anyway. However, what should our primary focus is to be? It’s my belief that our total commitment to Jesus should include; being obedient to His Commands and Serving the Lord with gladness. We’ll all use our gifts and skills to fulfill His Great Commission. Unlike Adrian Rogers who only wanted to be remembered for his proclamation of the Word in effectively leading souls to Jesus, I want that too, but I also want people to experience the miraculous. I’ve seen how one miracle can lead a whole family to the Lord.

It’s my experience that people come to the Lord in so many different ways; sometimes it is through a healing miracle, but other times it’s just a word that impacts their soul and heart. There is a TRUTH in the modern worship song “Just ONE touch of the KING, changes everything”… Just one touch from KING Jesus changes water into wine, cause a deaf person to hear, a blind person to see and a lame person to walk and leap for joy. Just one touch of the KING: Changes EVERYTHING in a person’s life.

Jesus is still in the LIFE TRANSFORMATION BUSINESS: He wants to do both; to HEAL and to DELIVER. With Jesus it was miracles and preaching the Kingdom, with the Apostles after Pentecost it was the same, we need to stay balanced and focused on following Jesus example and his commands.

Notice that in both versions of the great commission the emphasis is not on the miracles first, but on the proclamation of the Gospel. That’s God’s tool for bringing lost souls to Himself. It’s the Gospel that has the power to Salvation. We can heal people and they’ll get healed, but imagine healing someone and then not bringing them to faith and trust in Jesus Christ? That would be a terrible tragedy wouldn’t it?

I’ve seen it happen before, a great miracle whilst on an Evangelistic Mission in Cornwall. A woman who’d been wheelchair bound for years was healed instantly. But she did not come to trust Jesus as her Saviour. As a result of her healing the husband did trust Jesus and began attending church, but she went out dancing and lived a reckless loose life, they eventually divorced because of her adultery. Jesus didn’t take her healing away, but she also didn’t become a follower of Jesus. What a tragedy! Yes, let’s go out and heal, but let us also remember that Jesus called us to make Disciples and to lead people to faith and trust in Him, that’s got to be our PRIMARY focus, purpose, calling and reason for going out: In order that many people will be coming to faith and trust in the Living Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.  Amen!

He’s Encouraging You Today: Your Anxiety is Going to Be Removed: Peace will come into your heart and mind today.

 

Philippians 4:6-9
6  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
7  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8  Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
9  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Good morning my friends, I hope you remembered to put your clocks back an hour. It’s great to have an extra hour in bed once a year or an extra hour anyway. Imagine if they did it with a whole day? At midnight on a Saturday night, they decided to put the clocks back 24 hours so that it suddenly becomes midnight on a Friday… Wouldn’t that be brilliant? Or perhaps it would be better to do it on a Sunday, then for two days in a row we could gather together to worship the Lord. Which would you prefer? A Saturday shift or a Sunday? It’s never going to happen, but how we answer reveals something to us: How we would long to spend time and what our attractions in life are.

DO NOT BE ANXIOUS ABOUT ANYTHING

Following on from the teaching about DISASTER and learning not to WORRY, here, once again, we are reminded in such a loving way by the Lord through Paul not to get all anxious about anything.

I know, it’s easy to say, but so hard to do or to put into practice, but you can do it with the help of Jesus.

ANXIOUS: (Don’t Worry NLT and “Be Careful for nothing” KJV) Anxious in the NIV is a good choice of word.

Paul had already demonstrated to the Philippians exactly HOW to do what he revealing here: (Acts 16:16-40).

When in Philippi he and Silas were arrested, beaten severely and thrown into prison. What did he do? He and his companions began to sing and praise the Lord in the Prison. He could instead have been worried, moaned about his bruises and bleeding, fretted over how long they would keep him in prison, but NO! Instead of being anxious about the situation, Paul begins to praise the LORD. So much praise that the chains fall-off and Prison Guard gets converted. Awesome example!

What are we to do when we’re experiencing PRESSURES IN LIFE?

“in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

The Philippian Christians were experiencing severe pressures at the time; from both those not yet converted and also within the fellowship.

How did Paul want them to learn not to be ANXIOUS?

  • By PRAYER: Talk to God about it.
  • By PETITION: Take all your troubles to Jesus.
  • With THANKSGIVING: Praise the Lord, Sing Hymns / Songs of Praise and Thanks.
  • PRESENT: “present your requests to God”… Lay them all out before the LORD.

What is is that you want God to do for you right now? Then pray, petition and thank Him, laying your requests at the feet of the King. He’ll take those requests to His heart, because you are his precious child and He loves you.

What happens once we do that? The Lord reveals through Paul what happens “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

That phrase ‘transcends all understanding’ jumps RIGHT out at me today. Once you’ve prayed, petitioned and thanked the Lord and presented your requests to Him, then such a peace will come into your heart and mind, that you’ll wonder how it’s possible even in dire straits not to be worried.

What happened to Paul and Silas when they were in Prison and they Praised the Lord? Their chains fell off (Acts 16:26) Notice it wasn’t just the chains of Paul and Silas that fell off that day, but also all the other prisoners chains fell of too and the Guard came to know the Lord Jesus Christ that night as well. AWESOME… You are going to have such a PEACE when you take your troubles to Jesus. It will be a PEACE that will bring comfort to your heart and mind. It will be a PEACE that will also impact the lives of those around about you too.

THE WORLD WORRIES: THE WORLD GETS ANXIOUS.

To the world, we should always be worried, but you’ll experience a DIVINE PEACE in the midst of the storm.

Instead of loosing your head, running around like a headless chicken, flapping and getting into a state, you’ll be in a state of complete PEACE. HOW? Because you’ve taken it all to the LORD and then the floodgates of heaven have opened-up and drenched your heart with His PEACE… JOY UNSPEAKABLE floods your soul. and suddenly; worry, anxiety, drama is removed and you are at PEACE.

It’s such an amazing feeling: I’ve had that so many times in life my friends: When disaster strikes, and it will, every follower of Jesus Christ can sail through the storm, when every other ship would run for a safe harbour, the Christian can ride the storm in PEACE. Yes storms will come, but perhaps the LORD is teaching you in the STORM that you can still be a complete PEACE of heart and mind.

Once you are at PEACE: Your thinking will be transformed: You’ll be able to THINK like a BELIEVER: “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:9.

True, Noble, Right, Pure, Lovely, Admirable, Excellent, Praisworthy: Think, dwell upon, meditate, concentrate, ponder about these things.

It’s like when you hear a great piece of news, passing it on to others, thinking deeply about it.

Our society tends to do completely the opposite of this advice the Lord has given us through Paul: It thinks, dwells upon, meditates, concentrates and ponders; disasters, murders, thefts, floods, market crashes, broken toys, who’s leaving who, gossiping, etc… That’s how the world thinks: Watch the BBC News: There’s not much focus upon the TRUTH, NOBLE things in life, Right, Pure, Lovely or Admirable or Praiseworthy things. Normally, they’ll have just ONE feel-good story as a short tag at the end of the news broadcast. It’s as if the STORMS in the world and around about us are more important than ALL the good that’s going on. It’s NOT!

I’m sure there are many more wholesome things that could be getting far more attention. Imagine if they had a live-broadcast of people helping out at the foodbank? or if they were to be there with a camera when you didn’t respond with road-rage, but let the other driver out or overtake. The Camera always seems to focus upon the STORMS in life instead.

Remember the Song / Hymn: “I Surrender All”?

All to Jesus I surrender, I surrender all.

Oh my friends, let us take it ALL to Jesus right now.

All our troubles, fears, worries and anxieties in life.

Let’s be different from the World:

Lets dare to be different and even when disaster, hardship or trouble does come our way, then we will be able to sail through the storm in complete peace of heart and mind in Jesus, because we’ve taken them immediately to Jesus: with prayer, petition and thanksgiving. Perhaps, like Paul and Silas, we’ll see those chains fall off ourselves and all those living around about us too.

Prayer: We all know friends, family and neighbours who’re going through storms at the moment. Let’s pray for them now and encourage them to take their troubles to Jesus:

Dear Lord Jesus, I know you want us to bring EVERYTHING we’re going through in life to You. Please help us to learn to let go and let You deal with the storm. It’s hard to take our eyes off the waves Lord, but we know that when we present all our troubles to you, the storms will die down and we will be a peace in our heart and mind today. We know that it will be in such a way that it will transcend all understanding. Help us to pray Lord! Help us all to let go!” In Your Name, Lord Jesus, we pray. Amen!

Power Rangers & Redemption

Biblical meaning of redemption,

I had to look after my poorly granddaughter during the week and after dropping her sister Leila to school, Aminata turned on the TV at home and changed the channel to the Power Rangers: It was coming to the end of the show, and you’ll never guess the first sentence we heard: “You are not REDEEMED, because redemption is from within and you are not showing any signs of a change of character” Then they all got together and blasted the evil alien creature with a super-mega-blaster.

Talk about out of the mouths of babes or in this case; out of the mouth a kids cartoon on TV. Redemption is demonstrated by a changed character within.

The Word ‘Redemption’ Is Awesome, because it’s pregnant with meaning and is about to be delivered.

REDEMPTION:

  • What does redemption mean?
  • Where do we see it in the Bible?
  • What are people being redeemed from? 
  • What does it mean for us?
  • How do we know if we’ve been redeemed?

1) What does REDEMPTION mean?

Dictionary: Redemption: noun

  1. The action of saving or being saved from; sin, error, or evil.

“God’s plans for the redemption of his world”

synonyms: saving, saving/freeing from sin, vindication, absolution “God’s redemption of his people”

  1. The action of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment, or clearing a debt.

“the peasants found the terms of redemption unattractive”

synonyms: retrieval, recovery, reclamation, repossession, recoupment, return, rescue;

Biblically: Redemption Means: Jesus Christ came into this world to set mankind free from the slavery of sin, satan and self. He paid the price for mankind’s redemption. How much did redemption cost? It cost Jesus His life to set us free / redeem us from slavery. Why did it need to cost so much? Bible’s Answer: The wages (price) of sin is DEATH… Something had to die to set us free. Ezekiel 18:4 “For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son—both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die.” Ezekiel 18:20 “The person who sins is the one who will die…” Sin brings DEATH: So Jesus Christ came into this world to pay for the price of our sins. When we respond to God’s call to REPENT, when we Turn in REPENTANCE away from sin (again look at Ezekiel 18 for what true repentance looks like) AND put our trust in the death of Jesus Christ upon the Cross, then we will be set free; redeemed by the Lord. Without that repentance we cannot be saved. Unless you repent, you too will perish (Luke 13:3,5).

2) REDEMPTION IN THE BIBLE:

Answering the question; “Where do we see ‘redemption’ in the Bible?”

On the subject of redemption there are hundreds of related verses in the whole Bible so we’ll concentrate only on the New Testament’s treatment of the subject. Remember All Scripture (The whole Bible) is God breathed (God’s Word).

POWER RANGERS & Redemption:

You are probably asking, “What’s all that got to do with The Power Rangers and Redemption?”

The cartoon series is about how a group of kids unite to fight against evil forces from space who’re attacking the earth. They are like a secret force. Nobody else on earth is aware that we’re under attack from these malevolent forces of evil, only the kids who’ve been given the knowledge and power to fight them.

We too have been given power and authority to take our stand against all the forces of wickedness and evil in the Heavenly realms by Jesus (Ephesians 5:1517. & Ephesians 6:10-20). We’ve been given the command to go and set all the people on earth free from the control and influence of these dark forces. The people of the earth have been blinded by the evil forces, they are unaware of their spiritual condition (2 Corinthians 4:3-5). We demonstrate that we’ve been redeemed, set free from those forces by our own changed character and the power of Heaven within us and a desire to help those who’re still in bondage.

My friends you’ve been REDEEMED. You are God’s POWER Rangers. You’ve been set free, purchased, redeemed in order that you might save the people of the earth.

Sounds a bit fanciful, but it’s TRUE!

My wife Julie and I were watching the BBC News coverage of the Woolworth’s fire in Manchester 1979, many years ago now. It was a terrible tragedy. We also read in the Newspapers over the following days horrific accounts and miraculous escapes. One reported afterwards about a man who had escaped the fire ran out into the street and got knocked over by a double-decker bus and was killed instantly. Imagine that? Escaping the FIRE only to be KILLED by a Bus. (I can’t find the story on the internet now, if anyone can, please let me know).

When Tragedy Strikes: Don’t Worry! Trust the LORD.

None of us can ADD a single hour to our life by worrying: So trust in the Lord and LIVE worry free. When He’s got your place ready for you, then He’ll come a take you Home for all Eternity. There have been many tragedies we’ve experienced in our short lives and some of them took us ages to get over, but thankfully the LORD has been so good to us in so many other ways, and even through those horrible times, He’s revealed His awesome presence and comfort. I’m going to keep trusting Jesus.

Daily Spirit & Word: 616: The Power of God’s Word.

Good morning my friends, it’s been hitting home to me again today just how wonderful and powerful God’s WORD is. He speaks mainly through the Scriptures (Bible), but the power of God’s Word also comes to us in so many other ways, as people share God’s eternal truth. In what ways has He spoken to you?

Hebrews 4:12-13 “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13  Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”

These two verses in Hebrews 4 are AWESOME:

God’s WORD: It’s;

  • LIVING
  • ACTIVE
  • DIVIDING
  • PENETRATING
  • JUDGING

“The Word of God”: Bible Commentators are divided as to what this phrase is referring to:

  • Could it be the Whole Bible as some assume?
  • Could it be the Lord Jesus Himself?
  • Could it be the Gospel (Good News)? For we know that it’s the Word of God that gives the gift of faith.
  • Could it be the Law, as some assume? For the Law is a Schoolmaster to lead us to Christ. (An awareness of our need of God’s forgiveness, for we’ve all broken God’s Laws).
  • Could it be when the Scriptures are read or preached? 

Personally I think it is a combination of ALL of the above:

The Power of God’s Word: We’ve probably seen it ourselves in our own experience of walking and trying to live the Christian life.

When we hear a sermon and it cuts right into our daily life, the preacher being completely unaware of what we’ve been doing, but the Power of God’s Word hits home. Making us feel like getting down low and hiding or running out of the room. I’ve had that as the convicting power of God’s Word comes upon me.

We’ve probably all had an experience of chatting with someone about the Lord’s things; answered prayer, what the Bible is saying to us in our daily devotions, and then all of a sudden you become aware that He’s in the room right there with you, speaking through your words or of the conversation of others in the room. The Power of God’s Word comes to life upon the lips of a brother or sister. It’s wonderful when the Lord does that, speaks through your brothers and sisters in Christ.

We’ve probably all had the experience of reading the Bible and suddenly a phrase jumps into our hearts and encourages us and makes us feel secure, strong, bold, humbled. When God’s Word does something to take away our fears or illuminate a problem we’ve been having.

God’s Word: Is LIVING AND ACTIVE: It’s always there, it’s powerful and it can accomplish what God wants it to. Just think for a moment how the Power of God’s Word: Created the Universe and how God’s Word can make Peter walk upon the water with Jesus. WOWzer! It’s mind-blowing, the POWER of God’s Word.

I heard the story of a young boy, he’d just been converted to Jesus and was sitting in the park reading his bible and yelping with delight. An old stuffy Minister was walking past, he asked the boy, “What are you making all that fuss about?” The Boy responded, “It’s awesome how in the Bible the Israelites crossed through the Red Sea when God rescued them from Pharaoh” The Minister was a liberal and didn’t believe in the literal reading of Genesis, he said, “Oh Archaeologists have proven that the Red Sea was probably only about two feed deep at the point they crossed over”

The young boy’s face fell and the Minister walked away smirking to himself, thinking he’d put the boy to right. Then he heard the boy whooping and dancing again, he turned back and asked the boy, “What are you making a fuss about now?” The boy replied, “It fantastic, what a wonderful God we have” Impatient, the Minister said, “What do you mean?” The boy said, “Don’t you think it’s just amazing how God could drown the whole Egyptian Army in just two feet of water?”

The boy walked away praising the Lord Jesus, the Minister’s face fell. LOL.

 

  • God’s WORD has a Power to convict the hardest of hearts. (Penetrating).
  • God’s Word is living and active and will never cease to be. (Alive).
  • God’s WORD: Is a lamp to my feet and light unto my path. (Guides us in life).
  • God’s WORD is TRUE: for ALL time. (Truth for Everyone, Everywhere).
  • God’s WORD is TRUSTWORTHY: ALWAYS.(Believe ALL God’s Promises in His Word).
  • God’s Word is FAITHFUL: Reliable and Encouraging. (Feeds & Nourishes the Soul).
  • God’s WORD: Has the ability to give faith and lead a person to Jesus Christ today!

Let’s let God’s Word do it’s job in our life and the lives of those we love today.

Oh LORD Jesus Christ, I thank You that You are that living WORD, that You’ve given us Your Words to teach, encourage and strengthen us every day. You have revealed Father God to us through the Words that He gave You to speak whilst upon the earth. Thank You Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks for the ways that You speak to us and show us the truth in our lives. Your Word is amazing. Praise You Lord! Amen.

What ways has He spoken to you apart from Scripture and you KNEW it was Him?

What ways have you become aware that God was speaking through you?

The POWER of God’s WORD: Let it soak into your soul today, let it feed you and nourish your walk with Jesus.

The POWER of God’s Word:

Isaiah 40:6-15
6  A voice says, “Cry out.” And I said, “What shall I cry?” “All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field.
7  The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the LORD blows on them. Surely the people are grass.
8  The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands for ever.”
9  You who bring good tidings to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!”
10  See, the Sovereign LORD comes with power, and his arm rules for him. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him.
11  He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.
12  Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?
13  Who has understood the mind of the LORD, or instructed him as his counsellor?
14  Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge or showed him the path of understanding?
15  Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales; he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.

 

Crown Him “King Jesus” Today

Checkers King Jesus Crowned

Daily Spirit & Word, 615: Crown Him King.

Good morning my friends, have you ever played the game called Checkers? It’s one of the easiest games in the world to learn and can take a lifetime to master. The idea is to move your pieces and get as many on the opponent’s base-line, then you can say “Crown Him”. Once you get them crowned king, then you’ve got a King (doubler) you can move about the board in any direction. It’s marvellous to teach children, even very young ones get-it quite quickly. A word of caution (do let them win – they love it when they beat you at games).

Who Is this “SON” in this Psalm?

Psalm 2:1-12 
1 Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?
2  The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One.
3  “Let us break their chains,” they say, “and throw off their fetters.”
4  The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.
5  Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6  “I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill.”
7  I will proclaim the decree of the LORD: He said to me, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.
8  Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.
9  You will rule them with an iron sceptre; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”
10  Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11  Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling.
12  Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

The SON is KING Jesus.

Though The World (People who are not yet Saved by Jesus) is king at the moment.
There will come a DAY of reckoning: Psalm 2:4-6.
God just laughs my friends. He’s laughing at a World that thinks it’s King.

  • A world that has little room for Jesus now, will one day have to bow the knee.
  • A world that educates our children away from God’s values and standards.
  • A world that criminalises followers of Jesus for teaching His moral absolutes.
  • A world that gathers against Jerusalem, is a world that’s going to get crushed.
  • A world that grumbles, throws off the chains of righteousness, for they think God’s standards are like a prison.

God Gives Them Over He Let’s them think they are winning (But He’s Laughing at a foolish world that thinks it’s king).

Romans 1:18-32 God Lets Them Think They Are Winning.
18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19  since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
20  For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
21  For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
22  Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23  and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
24  Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.
25  They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is for ever praised. Amen.
26  Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.
27  In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
28  Furthermore, since they did not think it worth while to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.
29  They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30  slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31  they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.
32  Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practise them.

(And NOW: They are criminalising those who say anything against these sinful, depraved and wicked practices).

The KING’S DAY: (Soon and Very Soon).

I’m just soooooo sad that my home country Scotland are now out of the Rugby World Cup. You’re probably all aware of yesterday’s controversial decision by the referee in the Scotland V Australia Rugby Union World Cup. Scotland got beaten by ONE POINT and are now out of the competition. However, though we may ALL disagree with the Referee’s decision (Apart from the Australian’s of course, they are over-the-moon) HIS DECISION is the ONLY ONE THAT COUNTS. Though it’s heartbreaking for Scotland and almost cruel in the last minute of a wonderful game, to loose by just one point like that. However, that’s how it is going to be when the Lord Jesus Christ is Crowned KING: His decisions are the only one’s that will ever count. He will be the KING of kings and LORD of all Lords. When? On the KING’S DAY:

Romans 2:16 “This will take place on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.”

HIS DECISION & JUDGEMENT ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT WILL COUNT

Though The World (People who are not yet Saved by Jesus) is king at the moment. God is laughing at them, scoffing at them, but one day His wrath will be revealed from Heaven. Watch out when Jesus is CROWNED KING.

There will come a DAY of reckoning. Jesus will be Crowned KING.
So my friends, Don’t give up or give in; stay focused and fixed upon Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 12:1-3
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
2  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3  Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Be blessed TODAY: Enjoy Checkers, enjoy Rugby and Sports (even if your team looses), but KEEP your eyes FIXED on KING Jesus.

GET RID: Of everything that hinders you in your walk with Jesus. (Heb 12:1)
“Take refuge in the Son”… “Be found IN Jesus” John 15 “Let HIM be found in you too”…
Crown Jesus Your KING Today.

King over your everything.

King over; your home, finances, work, career, prospects, hobbies, likes and desires, family and friends. Jesus wants to be the KING (LORD, Boss, Master) of your everything. Let Him be your KING and you’ll find COMPLETE FREEDOM.

Jesus is Calling: But Father God Draws You to HIM.

Jesus is Calling: But Father God is the ONE who DRAWS you to Faith, Trust and Repentance in Jesus.

We are drawn by Father God to faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, but it is the Spirit that gives us the New Life.

Good morning my friends, I’ve been feeling really sad the last few days since I discovered that Angie (Andrea Driscoll) has died. I performed her wedding to David who died a few months after the wedding. Andrea was devastated by his death, but it had been expected for many months. Since David’s death Angie tried hard to live life to the full, she went on two trips (pilgrimages in Spain) walking over 300 miles each time. After all her hardships and experiences it was such a shock to hear that upon her return to London, she was found dead in her flat after a fall. Angie had a wonderful heart and was a great character. Everybody knew Angie’s problems, but she also had a real soft spot for the Lord Jesus. He alone knows if Angie was born of His Spirit. She was a breath of fresh air and also a bit of a storm too 🙂 We will definitely miss Angie in West Norwood. Many times I told Angie of the New Birth: I wonder if it ever got through to her?

The New Birth: After Jesus had finished teaching about Himself being the true bread from Heaven, the Living Bread, the Disciples (followers) found His teaching offensive and hard to take. For Jesus had been saying something that was and still is offensive to every sane person in the world: He said, “Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood”. Upon hearing that weird claim and message, it was so shocking, that even though people knew Jesus had been performing the most amazing miracles, most of them now left Him and returned to their homes. Apart from the 12 Disciples, but even one of them was a ‘false’ convert and Jesus knew it. He went onto say that the NEW LIFE comes as we’re drawn to Jesus by the Father and given the new life by the Spirit.

John 6:60-69
60 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”
61  Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you?
62  What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before!
63  The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.
64  Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him.
65  He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no-one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him.”
66  From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
67  “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.
68  Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
69  We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”

  So when you come to faith, don’t think that you’ve come by your own seeking or questing for the TRUTH, we come ONLY because the Father Himself draws us (leads us and guides us) to faith and trust in Jesus Christ.

Where did Jesus teach this before?

It was just before the Disciples Deserted Him:

John 6:44-48
44  “No-one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.
45  It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.
46  No-one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father.
47  I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.
48  I am the bread of life.

John also wanted us to be certain of this teaching: so he, at the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, said at the beginning of His Gospel account:

John 1:4 “In him (Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of men.”
John 1:12-13 “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—
13  children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”
John 3:5-7 “Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no-one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6  Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7  You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.'”

Unless we’ve been; BORN AGAIN by God’s HOLY SPIRIT and have received SPIRITUAL BIRTH we (no one) can enter into God’s Kingdom. It’s ONLY through being born of God’s Spirit that we can enter into Heaven. There’s no other way in.

How do we get this New Birth?

Jesus said it, “The Father draws us” He, God, gets us to the point of being able to see our need of Jesus. Once we Believe in Jesus, Repent of our sins and receive the Lord Jesus by faith, then through His Grace and Mercy God forgives us, cleanses us and the Holy Spirit comes into our being and gives us the New Spritual Life that we need to enable us to live for all eternity and enter into God’s Kingdom.

That is why Jesus said, “The Flesh counts for nothing, the Spirit gives spiritual life“…

If ever there was a TRINITARIAN MESSAGE: then it’s in the Gospel of John: Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all involved when a person comes to New Life through trusting in Jesus Christ’s death upon the Cross for their sins (Believing in, relying upon and cleaving to Jesus).

The Father Draws us to Jesus Christ: To ‘believe’ in His NAME: (The Messiah, the WORD of God, the Living Bread, the Light of the world, the Good Shepherd, the Gate for the sheep, the Way, the Truth, the Life, the Only Way to Heaven, the Heavenly Sacrifice, the Resurrected Lord, the Ascended Lord, the Saviour, the King of kings, the LORD of Lords,  the Lamb of God, the Servant King, the Giver of the Spirit, the Lion of Judah, the Bright Morning Star, the Golden One, the Alpha and the Omega {the first and last})

After we’ve come to TRUST completely and alone in Jesus (Jesus means; Deliverer or God Saves) The Christ (Christ means: Expected One or Messiah) for forgiveness, deliverance from sin and salvation from God’s wrath against sin, then the Holy Spirit will come into our being and give us the New Birth, the New Life, the GIFT of Eternal Life.

PRAISE GOD!

Make certain that you’ve come to believe and trust in Jesus Christ because He also said,

John 7:37-39
37  On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38  Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”
39  By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

Believe in HIM as the Scriptures have said: Not as man has said, but God’s Word, the Scriptures.

  • Only then will you be born again of God’s Holy Spirit.
  • Only then will you be able to live the Christian life,
  • Only then will you have assurance and hope of Heaven,
  • Only then will you be able to call God “Abba, Father”
  • Amen!

Praise the Lord!

It’s been my joy and my privilege to have known Angie, to share Jesus with her many times, but I’ve also got that same passion and desire to share Him with as many people as I can. Everyone needs to hear about Jesus Christ, because faith comes by hearing and also because everyone needs to be born again of God’s Holy Spirit. Let’s get busy leading people to Him. Be filled afresh with His Holy Spirit and ask for Him to lead you to those who are dying of Spiritual hunger today.  At a funeral on Friday I said, “BIBLE: Means: Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth… Let’s believe in Jesus as the BIBLE has said. Amen!

NOTE: We can only know of our NEED for Deliverance and Forgiveness when we understand (are brought by God the Father and the Holy Spirit) to the point of knowing how we’ve offended God. We have all broken God’s Commandments: (Sin is the transgression of God’s Law: Commandments). God writes His Law upon the heart of every man. He gives every man a Conscience so that when we do wrong, we know it and are therefore guilty of failing to live God’s way, instead we choose to live our own way. We do this countless times in our life and when we make a practice of it, our conscience gets quieter until we can barely hear it any-longer. However, we can have our Conscience re-awakened by listening to God’s Commandments and Hearing the Word of the Lord. The Bible tells us that faith (which is a gift from God) comes by Hearing His Word.

Faith: When exercised or used, enables us by God’s Grace to be able to TRUST in the Lord Jesus Christ and His giving of His life upon the Cross for our own sins.

Faith: Enables us to rightly receive the Lord Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. When Jesus is your Lord, He will enable you to live a life of Holiness in the Power of the Holy Spirit.

Faith: Enables us to Know that we are Born of God’s Holy Spirit. We don’t rely upon our feelings, but we receive enough FAITH to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that we’ve been born of His Spirit and that God is our Heavenly Father.

Faith: Enables us to have a sure and certain HOPE of Eternal Life (the fear and sting of death is removed).
