 Plug into the POWER of PRAYER.

Good morning my friends, we’ve just had a wonderful few days over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend, with family, friends and awesome fellowship. Easter Sunday was an exciting celebration of the Power of the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus. There are times in the life of every believer when we feel low, when we don’t feel close to the Lord and when things seem to get hard both spiritually and emotionally. Quite often that will happen after a wonderful time of close connection with Jesus and an encounter with the Holy Spirit. When that happens to me I get back to spending longer times in prayer with the Lord, and more often than not I begin to wonder, “Lord, what are you saying to me through this?” The Lord is so gentle and kind, because He’ll lead me back into His ways and He’ll gently show me or remind me what I should have been doing or ought not to have done.

You all know one of my mottoes in life is: No Read – No Feed… If I don’t read God’s Word then I’m not going to be fed Spiritually.

 It’s the same with Prayer: No Prayer – No Power. When we are prayerless, then we’re going to powerless as followers of Jesus. Think of prayer as a way to charge you up spiritually as one would your mobile phone. We’re always charging our phones to ensure they have enough power to see us through the day, but do we spend quality time charging in prayer with the Lord Jesus?

Little Prayer = Little Power.

Quality Prayer = Explosive POWER.

 My Spiritually Drained Life:

 First; No Read – No Feed: Sometimes it’s a lack of real engagement with the Word of God; I’ll be reading it, but then at the end of a passage or even a whole chapter, I’m left wondering what I’ve just read. Then I realise, I’ve been reading without thinking, reading without paying attention to what I’m reading, so the Lord guides me to go back and read it again. I’ve done that so many times, when I’ve woken up tired from a late night or been up during the night and just begin reading God’s Word automatically or out of routine. Then BAM! It hits me, I’ve been reading God’s Word as if it’s a Newspaper or an Advert: skim reading and not dwelling upon it or reading it prayerfully. That’s quickly followed by a confession and repentance and return to devotional reading, seeking the Lord for His light from His Word. You know my friends, I can confess to you right now, that these are some of the most powerful and profitable times in God’s Word. You see God didn’t call us to be like robots or to do things out of duty or routine, but always seeking to engage and talk with one another. That’s what should be happening when I’m reading His Word, because it’s His living Word and He wants to speak to me through His revelations and give me fresh revelations every single day.

Secondly: No Prayer – No Power. Then I’ll sometimes get convicted about my prayer life or more specifically my lack of engagement or communication with my Lord. You see Jesus wants us to know that when we pray, he’s right there with us, He’s not some distant deity that we have to emplore to be touched by our works our devotions or our dedications. No my friends, Jesus is right there and wants us to know it, the moment we turn to Him in prayer, His desire is to communicate and be with us. How awesome is that? Jesus is not impressed by how we posture ourselves or about how holy a place we’ve found to pray, what He’s impressed with is a heart that desires to know Him and be with Him and spend time in His company, a heart that desires to do His will, to live in accordance with His commands, for Jesus knows that when He gets a heart of a human being in the morning like that, that we are truly loving Him for who He is and not just what He can do for us.

When we come to Jesus in prayer and come to His Word with our focus and attention and heart right, then we’re going to get the power encounters that all the ancient saints of old and down through history have experienced with the Lord. Like Moses, Joshua, David, Elijah, Elisha, Daniel, we’ll get revelation and power. They all plugged in and got the power. When we Read God’s Word and Spend Quality Time in Prayer, then we’re going to be fed and powered up for following Jesus today.

God’s Word, for reading and meditation today:
Luke 18:1-8
1  Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.
2  He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men.
3  And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
4  “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care about men,
5  yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually wear me out with her coming!’ ”
6  And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says.
7  And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?
8  I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

It’s amazing what people down through the ages have called this parable; “The Parable of the Persistent Widow” “The Widow that never gives us”. But it could also be called “The Parable of God’s Desire for Justice”. It just depends upon our focus; are we thinking about earthly things or heavenly things. Where your treasure is there your heart will be also. If our heart’s desire is to be God’s person, then we’ll be concerned with Heavenly things. God’s desire is that people always get justice and Christians should always be on the side of fairness, equality, justice, mercy. Giving aid and assistance to the poor and those who can’t care for themselves. Once we know the Lord and His deeper desires then we’ll also act in accordance with God’s character as well. However, just as the widow was persistent until she got the unjust judge to listen, we’ll also continue in prayer and never give up until we see that justice is being done. We’ll pray and act and then we’ll see the POWER of Heaven released.

We’re not to just to pray, God’s much more concerned about How we live in this world and about how we’re being obedient to what He’s already revealed. When we come to God in the morning and we’re ready to do His will in the world that day, don’t you believe that He’s ready to listen to your petitions? Oh yes my friends, David and Abraham were called the friends of God, because their hearts were filled with a desire to trust Him alone. Abraham believed the Lord and it was credited to him as righteousness. David was a man after the Lord’s own heart. They both desired to do His will.

No Read – No Feed.

No Prayer – No Power.

Go on my friends, get close to Jesus right now: Pray and Feed upon His Word. You’ll get Power to sustain you throughout your day. You’ll be fed and nurtured by God’s Word to equip you for the fight of the faith. It’s your only weapon against the enemy.

No Prayer – No Power.

Little Prayer = Little Power.

Quality Prayer = Explosive POWER.

Prayer: Oh Lord, let me come to You and to Your Word ready to listen, to pay attention to what you’ve got to say to me every single day. Let me have a heart that’s ready and willing to obey what You are telling me. Show me Lord the areas of my life, that I’m slipping up in: is my prayer life right Lord? is my Bible reading right Lord? is my heart attitude towards others right Lord? I’m desiring to live my life Your way Lord. I want your power in me, I want to know your Word. Help me to be like David and Abraham, I want to be called a friend of God and friend of Jesus. I know that you are my friend Lord, but help me to live every moment knowing my best friend is with me wherever I go. Amen.

You know my friends, when you pray like that God’s going to show you things in His Word and He’ll answer your prayers quickly. So don’t ever think of quitting or giving up, but be like that widow, be persistent in prayer and the Lord who loves Justice, Mercy, Patience, Kindness, Goodness and Gentleness will answer your prayers quickly. Amen!

God’s Progressive Revelations For Followers of Jesus.

Good morning my friends. WOWzer! What an awesome Good Friday! The Walk of Witness was fantastic, we had a good number more than last year and a lovely time of worship, prayer, proclamation and witness, then some fellowship afterwards. God’s truly GOOD and it was a Great Good Friday. Today, we’re looking at how God wants to use us and to give us much more than we can ever imagine.

1 Corinthians 2:1-10
1  When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.
2  For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
3  I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling.
4  My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power,
5  so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.
6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
7  No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.
8  None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9  However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”—
10  but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.

Romans 8:11 “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.”

This passage speaks to me to loudly of the Holy Trinity: The Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead: Who’s that talking about, but the Father (As you’ll see when you read this verse in context). So the Father, who raised Jesus from the dead by the Spirit, will also give LIFE to your mortal bodies (A mortal body is a dead body), how does He, the Father give us this life? “by or through His Spirit who lives in you”.

Ephesians 3:20 (NIV) “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…”

I’ve heard Christians say (foolishly), “Jesus, repentance, faith and worship, I can cope with, but I don’t want the ‘Spirit’ thing, it’s way too spooky”. People are afraid of what the ‘Spirit’ might make them do. They’ve seen the excesses or extremes and they’ve decided in their hearts, “That’s not for me”. They come to that conclusion through fear of what might be, but they’re simply refusing the very things that Father God has provided that are necessary for the NORMAL Spiritual life. For the man or the woman without the Spirit doesn’t belong to God. That’s why I said, “Foolishly”, because they don’t have they Spirit, they are unaware of their folly or foolishness. The things of the Spirit are foolishness to them.

There’s More, so Much MORE that you can ever imagine with God.

So many people, who think they are Christian by what they do, have been won to their supposed faith by mere human wisdom, argument or persuasion, but those who’re born of the Spirit have not come intellectually alone, they’ve perhaps been persuaded by the Gospel, but they’ve not simply rested on intellectual agreement, but have moved from that mental assent to faith: For God’s Spirit who draws us to faith and trust in Christ doesn’t want us to simply agree with the gospel, He also wants us to act upon what we’ve become convinced of; that act leads to conversion, to the filling with God’s Spirit, to new life in the Spirit and a transformational experience takes place. New life is not just an intellectual concept, but something to be lived.

1 Cor 2:9 “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him”

My friends, you or I can’t contain God within a box. No matter what revelation you get from God, no matter how ‘Spiritual’ you think you are, there is ALWAYS, ALWAYS more, so much more than we could ever imagine.

That was the experience of the Ancient Saints like; Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses and Joshua: God took them from one point of faith and experience to another, to new levels of revelation and understanding of who God was and what life can be like when we trust Him.


Just consider the stages of revelation for Abraham for an example;

A) At Haran Abraham had “I WILL SHOW YOU”

He was Taken With The Promise: “I Will Show You”.

He was taken from Haran by God with this promise; Genesis 12:1-3 (NIV) The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. 2  “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3  I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

B) In Canaan Abraham had this promise from God: “THIS IS THE LAND”.

Genesis 12:7 “The LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.”

C) At Bethel Abraham had; “THE LAND THAT YOU SEE”.

At Bethel Abraham Saw it:

Genesis 13:14-17 (NIV) The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west. 15  All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring for ever. 16  I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. 17  Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.”

Can you see the progressive nature of the revelations of God’s Promises? God’s Provisions? God’s Guidances? God’s Blessings? They’re forever growing, expanding and extending for Abraham. What did Abraham do to earn these promises and rewards? Nothing, but he Believed God and Acted upon what he believed.

  • Abraham wasn’t just intellectually convinced that God could do what He promised.
  • He didn’t just believe it with his mind.
  • He acted upon God’s promises and trusted God, he followed God’s directions.
Progressive Revelations
More, so much more.

It’s FAITH expressed in ACTION. or as some have said, “FAITH & DEEDS” Jesus said, “FAITH is obedience to His commands”.

God said of Abraham in the;

 Old Testament: Genesis 15:6 “Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” Notice also at the end of chapter 15 how the Lord’s promise of the Land had expanded much further than Abraham’s eyes could ever see physidally. His promises and revelations grew even greater than Abraham could ever imagine. Just because he believed the LORD.

 New Testament: Romans 4:3, 22 “Abraham believed God” WOWzer!

Abraham took God at His word and trusted in God’s promises. Abraham had been given the gift of faith that enabled him to trust God and take God at his WORD. Not mere intellectual agreement, but being convinced of it he acted upon what he believed. James 2:22-23 (NIV) “You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23  And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.

Paul didn’t just go and preach the Gospel, as so many Christian do. No he came and preached it, but he also demonstrated it with power and miracles and wonders. Signs and wonders will accompany your proclamation my friends, but we need to be obedient and do what Paul did, what the Apostles and early Christians did, by being obedient to Jesus Commands to Go; God’s Spirit and blessing, touching, delivering and healing, bringing God’s Kingdom into the lives of others in a demonstration of God’s POWER.

My friends, the LIFE of the Spirit that Jesus has called His followers to is the same. It’s life in the Spirit, believing the promises of God, taking God at His Word and being obedient to His commands. Jesus said, “if you love me you’ll obey my commands.” We know that we love Jesus if we’re living in obedience to His commands. They won’t be too burdensome, they’ll be easy in the Spirit. When we’re weak or failing any of Jesus commands, then we know what to do, for we need more of God’s Spirit to enable us to live. We need to be full of God’s Spirit for every single day. We’ll never get to the point in our Spiritual walk that we don’t need God’s Spirit. We won’t want to live without the Spirit once we’ve begun.

Abraham was promised, those you bless will be blessed. We’ve been given similar promises by Jesus.

Abraham was promised, those who bless you will be blessed by the LORD. When people give you even a cup of water just because you are a follower of Jesus, they’re going to be blessed too.

My friends, life in the Spirit is just like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Elijah, Peter, James, John, Stephen and Paul, and countless thousands of others, but you’ll also get progressive revelations yourself from God’s Spirit. You’ll experience more than you can ever imagine or conceive.

As soon as you think you’ve arrived, guess what? God’s got far more than you’ll ever imagine.

I’m looking forward to just one more day living in God’s Kingdom Promises for the followers of Jesus Christ. Amen!

Life in the Kingdom: Read again Rosa’s Story from Thursday’s Daily Spirit & Word: The Kingdom of Power (Rosa’s Story).

Ephesians 3:20 (NIV) “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…” He’s in you my friends, when you trusted Jesus, He’s going to use you in Kingdom Service today.

Resurrection Sunday is going to be AWESOME tomorrow: Because the SAME Spirit, the Holy Spirit, that raised Jesus from DEATH, is the one who gives us LIFE in our mortal (dead) bodies. Praise the LORD and let us live in the Spirit today.

Daily Spirit & Word, 478: The Guilty Ones Can Go Free.

Jesus death on the Cross brings FREEDOM for all the Guilty ones.

That’s Why It’s Called ‘Good Friday’.


Good morning my friends, last night we had a wonderful celebration of the Lord’s Last Supper with all the elements of the Passover. Today we’re walking in witness through the town because it’s Good Friday.

Matthew 27:19-26
19  While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message: “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.”
20  But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.
21  “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor. “Barabbas,” they answered.
22  “What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?” Pilate asked. They all answered, “Crucify him!”
23  “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
24  When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”
25  All the people answered, “Let his blood be on us and on our children!”
26  Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.

It’s ironic, Jesus is one day going to be The Judge of all mankind, but there He was being judged by a man. He listened to his wife who had a dream about Jesus innocence and Pilate knew that it was out of jealousy that the Chief Priest and the Elders of Israel wanted Jesus to be killed.

It was the custom at the time of the Passover for the Romans to release a prisoner of the crowds choosing, the all wanted Barabbas released instead of Jesus.

 The Guilty One Goes Free.

The Guilty Once Can Go Free.

After His trial, Jesus was severely beaten, whipped and mocked at the hands of the Romans, then made to carry his heavy wooden cross to the place of execution, nailed to the cross and lifted up to die.

I’m reminded about what Jesus said today; John 12:32 (NIV) “But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.”

My friends, when we are drawn to Jesus, we are like Barabbas, the innocent one died and the guilty one goes free. It is only through Jesus death that we can be set free from those things that separated us from God and leave us guilty before Him.

In our condition of sin, without coming to Jesus or being drawn to Him, we’re going to be Judged by Him. His judgement of us will be quite unlike Pilates, because Jesus cannot be corrupted, bribed by a crowd or brow-beaten into submission with please from eloquent lawyers. He’s the incorruptible Judge and must punish the guilty, but He’s also loving, kind and gentle and has made a way for all people, all over the earth to escape God’s wrath and anger against sin’s rebellion.

Yes we are guilty, but the guilty ones can go free today, but trusting in Jesus Christ, His death upon the cross and His resurrection and ascension into Heaven. Jesus now sits on the throne and will one day sit on that Judgement Seat, but He will not wash His hands, for He knows that we are all guilty, but He’s made a way for you to be set free by paying the price for your freedom. Jesus gave His life so we can all go free. So lets make certain we’ve already passed through His judgement beforehand, by taking hold of the offering of forgiveness, freedom and life. Today the Guilty ones can go free.

Personally I’m always moved on Good Friday, because it’s a solemn day, but also a day of great rejoicing, because my Saviour set me free from my sin and guilt in 1984 and I’m thankful that He’s kept me until this day, following Him. Lord let your glory fall as we worship and adore you today. Thank you so much for all that you endured so that we could be set free. You are the King Lord Jesus. Your wounds are the beauty spots of Heaven, because they stand testimony that you’ve paid the price for our freedom. Amen!

Today we’re going to be walking as followers of Jesus Christ through West Norwood. Beginning at Tulse Hill railway station at 11.45am then onto St Luke’s Gardens for a time of prayer, fellowship and worship. There will be some Bible reading and singing along the way. Come and walk for Jesus Christ today as we remember He made it possible for every guilty soul to be set free by dying upon the Cross.

Daily Spirit & Word, 477, The Kingdom of POWER.

 1 Corinthians 4:20 “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.”

Good morning my friends. What can I say about last night’s Gospel outreach? Just one word; “WOWzer”. Well perhaps a few more 🙂 We’ve been talking for ages about seeing the Harvest and leading people to faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, well last night was truly awesome. (If you don’t read anything else, please you must read Rosa’s story at the bottom of this page). But it began in the afternoon, when I felt the Lord wanted me to go and see a man who was feeling down, depressed by a situation he was going through and confessed that he’d also contemplated taking his own life. I telephoned David, a member of our Evangelism Team, and we got together to pray for him first, before going to see him.

I shared with David, that the Kingdom of God is not just about words, not just about sharing Jesus and using God’s law to bring conviction of sin and help people to come to an awareness of their need for the Saviour, but about demonstrating God’s power. So we began to pray for Bill, when we left David’s house we were buzzing. On the way to Bill’s house we met a lady called Dorothy, she was walking down Bill’s road. It was strange because we just said “good afternoon” as if about to walk past, but God had different plans, we were into a conversation about God and His Spirit almost immediately. She was talking about being a Pentecostal and how she’d died and been to Heaven. However, we sensed that she needed prayer. So we offered and tears were streaming down her face. I don’t know why God wanted us to meet up with Dorothy, but after praying and praising Jesus she exchanged telephone numbers with me, she departed with great joy. WOW! it was a power encounter.

When we got to Bill’s house, there was no one in, so after leaving a Kingdom Coin 🙂 (a little coin with the Ten Commandments, we walked back down Bill’s road. When we got to the end, he turned the corner and we almost bumped into him. He smiled and we all went back to Bill’s house. After making us tea and giving us biscuits, David shared with Bill about not being overwhelmed with fears, and about how we can have real peace inside, even though there’s a storm raging. He shared how King David had that peace, but it’s a peace that’s available for everyone.

I then shared from Psalm 40 and how we can be lifted out of any pit that we can’t get out of ourselves. I said, “Depression and suicidal thoughts are from Satan. When a person is feeling like that, they can’t just pull themselves together, they can’t pull themselves out of the pit, that’s when we need the Lord’s almighty hand to reach in a grab us. He reaches in, in His POWER and pulls us out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and the mire and then He does something wonderful. This is amazing Bill, Jesus will set your feet upon a ROCK: Jesus Christ Himself is that ROCK. He’ll give you a firm place to stand. Bill was looking amazed, then I said, but it’s not just a matter of words Bill, Jesus is going to do something for you today. I know Jesus is going to life you up and pull you out of that slimy pit. Then, you’ll be used by Jesus then to help others who’ve slipped into pits that they can’t get out of themselves.”

When we got to praying, we sang a song first and then, initially sitting, we all stood up and prayed the Lord’s prayer. Then the power began to come, Bill was shaking and saying, “WOW” He prayed and worshiped the Lord Jesus with us. He then said, “I’m coming tonight”. David thought he was talking about Tonight’s Meal, the Lord’s Last Supper, but no, Bill was talking about coming out on the streets with us to share Jesus and the power of the Kingdom. We left Bill to get something to eat and he promised to come to church at 7.00pm.

We left and then regathered at 7.00pm in the Church office last night. Soon after we arrived a man from South India came into the church, we didn’t want to stop our prayer and preparation for Evangelism, so we asked Cuthbert (think that’s his name) to join us. He came in, he was a Roman Catholic, so we got to sharing about Jesus and the Kingdom again. He didn’t want to come out on the streets so, we just prayed and it was strange, because we all hugged him and he left happy, even though we’d had some heated discussions about the doctrines of the Catholic church and Biblical Christianity. We prayed, praised and parted friends and encouraged him to check out what we had said by reading the Bible. He assured us that he would.

Rosa’s Encounter:

Last Night The Kingdom Came With Power.

Finally we got onto the streets, after chatting to a few people, David and Cherrie got chatting with a man for ages, and Bill teamed up with me and we shared and prayed for a few people. Then a young lady approached us, we shared the Gospel of Jesus with her and she admitted that she needed Jesus as her saviour, but had been thinking lately that Jesus can’t be real because so many bad things had happened in her life. Rosa had experienced the death of her father when she was a young girl, then last year a friend had be shot to death in Italy, and this year a friend had died in a car crash. She said, “How can there be a good God, a God of love when He allows such horrible things to happen to good people?” I said, “Rosa, I don’t know the answers to those questions, but what I do know is this, God sent Jesus His Son to die on the Cross for you, to take away all your sins, He did that because He loves you Rosa”

I continued, “Rosa, we’re not here tonight, just talking about Jesus and His Kingdom, we’ve come out and God’s going to touch your life.” I don’t know what prompted me to say that so boldly, but something inside me said, “Donald my power is coming tonight”. I said, “Rosa, I’m going to put my hand on your shoulder, if you don’t mind” She nodded. Then I said, “Rosa, God’s power of love is going to touch your heart tonight, you are going to know that God is real”. She laughed, I said, “I know it sounds weird, but it’s going to happen, God wants to show you how much he loves you.”. I asked Bill to put his hand on her other shoulder and I just touched her for a few seconds. I prayed, “Lord, thank you for Rosa, we know that you love her, please come and reveal your love in Rosa’s heart right now Lord”.

We took our hands off Rosa’s shoulders and I asked, “Rosa, what do you feel?”. She looked stunned for a few moments and couldn’t speak. Then she began to say, “WOW”, “WOW, what was that, my heart is literally thumping, my head’s all fuzzy, my legs have gone all shaky, I can feel some-thing’s happening in me, I feel so happy”. She began to cry and thanked us and was overjoyed. She shook my hand then let go immediately. She said, “Don’t touch me anymore, it’s too strong, oh WOW, what is that?” I said, “Rosa, it’s not me, it’s God’s love coming into your life” She said, “It’s real, I never thought this would happen, I’ll never forget this as long as I live”. After we chatted some more about what it means to be a follower of Jesus, Rosa gave us all a big hug and went away happy, she promised to read her Bible and turn to Jesus.

The Power of The Kingdom.

My friends as the LORD has said through Paul  1 Corinthians 4:20 “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.” It’s literally true. When Christians go out, even if they’re are a very young Christian like Bill was, just a few hours old as a Believer in Jesus, He’ll use us in His Kingdom power, to bring His power of love, of healing and of deliverance into the lives of others. He does this in faithfulness and in fulfilment of His promises. Signs and wonders will accompany the proclamation of the Gospel.  We saw it last night, I’m looking forward to going out today to take the Kingdom of God with me.

 If you are a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, then you too can experience the Power of the Kingdom at work in and through you today.

You too can share Jesus in His power. We go out every week and we’d love to take some more with us, to learn how to share God’s Word in His Power. 1 Corinthians 4:20 “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.” You’ll see God at work in people’s lives. It’s not simply about getting people to come to your church or join your fellowship, but to get them into God’s Kingdom. Helping them to see that Jesus is real, alive and cares for them right now in their lives, no matter what they’re going through, God’s love can reach right in and touch them at their point of need. However, the LORD wants Disciples, Followers who obey His commands to GO. He didn’t say, “Come to faith in me and sit in a church or gathering of the saints in praise and worship and Bible study” No Jesus said, “Follow Me, and I will MAKE you fishers of men.”

He also said, “You shall do greater things” You can also be assured He’s with you for He promised that too. He also said in the Bible through Paul, 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5  so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.” My friends, Rosa was touched, we did persuade her with the Gospel, but she also needed a demonstration of the Spirit’s Power in her life. When she got that, my friends, she was overjoyed, her faith came alive, she was touched by God and moved to praise the Living Lord Jesus Christ.

Yes, you may get some people who’ll come along and join your fellowship afterwards, but it’s better by far that they are saved by Jesus Christ and know Him and that they are in His Family forever. I know that once a person is soundly saved, they’ll want to come and worship the Lord. Nothing will keep them away. Amen!

You can have this same Kingdom Power at work in your life today my friends. Jesus wants to build His Kingdom. He told us to pray for that in the Lord’s Prayer: “Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven” It’s happening today, well last night it did, and I’m certain that when we go out today, Jesus will be with us wherever we go, for we carry the Kingdom with us.

You have the SAME Holy Spirit in you as Paul, Peter, James and all the Apostles of the Lord Jesus. Followers of Jesus are the Temple, we’re all different and God will use our various gifts, but we’re ALL called to be followers of Jesus commands to go and take the Kingdom with us. You can do it at work, as you travel to work, at home, in the office, at school, college. Take God’s Kingdom and the POWER and demonstrate the power of the Kingdom.

My prayer for everyone today is that God will use you, if you’ve trusted in Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Don’t be a pew warmer who only worships on a Sunday and just soaks up God’s teaching week by week, but be active in His Kingdom, because He wants followers, disciples and new people to come into His Kingdom.

Judas Iscariot: The Ultimate Baddie of the Bible: Gives The Kiss of Death to Jesus.

Good morning my friends, it’s Wednesday and we’re in Holy Week, so I thought I’d take a look at one of those people the Lord Jesus chose as one of His disciples, knowing that He’d betray Him: Judas Iscariot.

 Judas Iscariot & The Kiss of Death:

Judas Iscariot was, according to the New Testament, one of the twelve original disciples of Jesus Christ, and son of Simon Iscariot. He is known for the kiss and betrayal of Jesus to the Sanhedrin for thirty silver coins. Even today, people who know little about the Bible will use the name ‘Judas’ to accuse someone of betrayal. Though there are varied accounts of his death, the traditional version sees him as having hanged himself following the betrayal. His place among the Twelve Apostles was later filled by Matthias, who had been with Jesus from the time that Jesus was baptised by John in the River Jordan.

We all know or sometimes we think we know all about a person, but a lot of what we know about Judas today has little to do with Biblical reality, history or accuracy. He’s been portrayed as both the ultimate baddie and the lad who just didn’t quite make it, but was OK in the end, because he felt remorse for his betrayal of the Lord Jesus.

Who was Judas? He was one of the original 12 Disciples designated Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was the son of Simon Iscariot.

 Judas Was The Lord’s Treasurer:

He kept the money bag for the Lord’s work. He was the one who collected money and paid for Jesus ministry, food and lodgings etc…  John 12:6. However, when we look at that passage in context we get an indication of the kind of character that Jesus was; A Treasurer is a Trusted Position.

John 12:4-6 “But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected,
5  “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.”
6  He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.”

WOWzer! One of the Lord’s chosen was a THIEF as well as a betrayer. Imagine that, Judas is travelling around with the Messiah, he’s daily seeing people healed, delivered and brought back to life. He’s listening to all of Jesus’ teachings and yet in his heart he was far away from the Lord. The love of money had gripped his heart.

Satan Entered Judas:

Luke 22:3 (NIV) “Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve.”

My friends, Satan cannot get into you, unless you let him in.  Ephesians 4:27 (NIV) “and do not give the devil a foothold.” It’s like opening the door of your heart without first looking through the spy-hole to see who’s at the door, once we crack open the door we’re giving him a foothold into our life.


He comes when we are disobedient or rebellious to the Lord in some way. That’s what happened to Judas and it should serve as a warning to us all. Judas had already decided in his heart that he’d betray Jesus for money, long before Satan entered into him, it’s that decision and desire to betray, to plot evil, to plan murder, that allowed or enabled Satan to gain entry.

We allow Satan entry when we think, plan and plot with evil intent, not matter what the temptation is, and they can be strong at times, we must be aware of what’s at stake.

When did the other disciples catch-on that Judas was the betrayer?

It wasn’t until Jesus was kissed by Judas and arrested, but Jesus knew who he was and when he’d do it, before it happened and before Judas even thought about betraying Him. Imagine Jesus, when he was choosing the 12 originally, knowing that one of them was going to betray Him?

Judas’ Betrayal Predicted in the Bible.

We must realise that Judas’ betrayal of the Lord was predicted hundreds of years before he was born. This fact doesn’t take away Judas’ guilt or personal responsibility, because even though we’re all tempted by Satan, we’re going to be held accountable for the decisions we make, therefore Judas’ responsibility and guilt remains.

Acts 1:15-20 “During this time, when about 120 believers were together in one place, Peter stood up and addressed them.
16  “Brothers,” he said, “the Scriptures had to be fulfilled concerning Judas, who guided those who arrested Jesus. This was predicted long ago by the Holy Spirit, speaking through King David.
17  Judas was one of us and shared in the ministry with us.”
18  (Judas had bought a field with the money he received for his treachery. Falling headfirst there, his body split open, spilling out all his intestines.
19  The news of his death spread to all the people of Jerusalem, and they gave the place the Aramaic name Akeldama, which means “Field of Blood.”)
20  Peter continued, “This was written in the book of Psalms, where it says, ‘Let his home become desolate, with no one living in it.’ It also says, ‘Let someone else take his position.’”

The Psalms Peter is talking about (Confirmed by Paul) were Psalm 69:25 and 109:8. You’ll note from these Psalms that Judas is not mentioned by name, but the fact that he’d betray the Lord. Judas fulfilled Old Testament prophesy. But there are other Psalms that predict it more specifically; Psalm 41:9 (NIV) “Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.”

How Much Would It Take to Betray the LORD?

For Judas it was 30 pieces of silver:

Matthew 26:14-16 “Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty silver coins. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.”

Just 30 Pieces of Silver: The life of Jesus for money. He’d been with Jesus for a long time and knew what Jesus was like, what possessed him to think that any amount of money was worth betraying the most gentle, loving, kind human being to ever walk the planet?

We can all be like Judas though, because whenever we choose to act, to speak or even think about evil sinful things, we’re choosing the pleasures of sin over and above our devotion and love for the Lord. 30 Pieces of Silver probably was a lot of money in those days, perhaps Judas thought he’d become rich, but the pleasures of sin are momentary, fleeting, like a mist, they don’t last and as we observe Judas bitterly regretted his betrayal of the Lord and took his own life in the end.

Proverbs 13:11 11  Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.

You know my friends, the bible tells us that SIN leads to death: When SINFUL DESIRE is full grown: James 1:13-18 “When tempted, no-one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14  but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15  Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. 16  Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers. 17  Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18  He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

Judas’ sinful desire for Money (The LOVE of Money is the root of all evil), led to his downfall. He’d been chosen by the Lord, given a fantastic opportunity to be alongside the most awesome person to set foot upon the earth, yet he chose money over a person’s life. Judas, even before Satan entered into him, was a wayward character.

He Dips His Bread In The Same Cup As The LORD:

Remember what Jesus said, “He who dips his bread in the cup”…

Mark 14:18-21 18  While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me.” 19  They were saddened, and one by one they said to him, “Surely not I?” 20  “It is one of the Twelve,” he replied, “one who dips bread into the bowl with me. 21  The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”

Dipping his bread in the same cup as the Lord: Only close friends would do that. I can’t imagine letting anyone dip their biscuit in my cup of coffee or tea, but a really good friend, I might consider it 🙂 Judas and all the Disciples were by now, very close and good friends of the Lord Jesus, yet he was going to betray the Lord. It would be better not to have been born than betray the Son of Man: The Lord Jesus Christ. Each time we’re tempted to wander away from the Lord, we should remember the cost of betrayal. “It would be better not to have been born”… There’s always going to be very BITTER REGRET.

The Kiss of Death

We must now turn to the actual act of betrayal: When Jesus revealed that one from among those He’d chosen would betray Him.

Luke 22:47-48 “While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, 48  but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”

A kiss of greeting between good friends is a wonderful thing, it denotes great closeness, fondness and fellowship. So much of what Judas did as a disciple has entered into folk-lore and there are so many sayings for Betrayal linked directly back to what Judas did when he betrayed our Lord Jesus.

Saints Who Give the Kiss of Death to Jesus:

We’ve all seen brothers and sisters who’ve been like Judas, who’ve wandered away from the Lord because of the pleasures of sin and the deceitfulness of wealth. Ministers who once had a thriving ministry with powerful signs and wonders accompanying, then they gave into the pride of life, the deceitfulness of wealth or sexual sins. Satan loves nothing more than to draw our affections away from Jesus and serving in His Kingdom to other things. In the beginning those things can look good or innocent, but when they take our time, talents and treasures away from the Lord’s work, they’ll lead to our downfall like Judas. Let’s not be found guilty of giving The Kiss of Death to our walk with Jesus.

My friends, don’t let anything you do be The Kiss of Death to your relationship with the LORD.

I’m praying that I won’t be a Judas, that I won’t ever offer the Kiss of Death, pretending close affinity, but inwardly filled with evil intent. That the Lord will so fill me with His Holy Spirit and my will and heart’s desire will always be to walk in righteousness and holiness with Him. I’m also praying that for all my friends and everyone reading this today. It’s so easy to be a Judas and only realise later and bitterly regret that you’ve betrayed the Lord. Satan, the World and our own sinful flesh are so deceptive and enticing, LORD help us to live always for you and not for our own pleasures because we know that it will be the Kiss of Death to all our relationships but most importantly with You Lord. Amen!
